Milky Chance (Philipp Dausch and Clemens Rehbein) is our guest for Episode 170 of The Marinade. Milky Chance is a chart-topping, genre defying band from Germany whose debut single “Stolen Dance” made them a household name back in 2013. They have gone on to release four excellent full length records including 2023's Living in a Haze. Y'all, this opportunity is a huge thrill for me. I loved “Stolen Dance” from the first listen and am honored Clemens and Philipp sat down with us for such a thoughtful conversation. What if you started a band with your best friend in high school - and the first song you put out went straight to the top of the charts? Sure, the journey singer/guitarist Clemons Rehbein and drummer/bassist Philipp Dausch have been on after meeting up in Kassel Germany isn't that simple...but it is remarkable that a decade after "Stolen Dance" and the blockbuster album behind it Sadnecessary changed their lives - their friendship and deeply-intiuative sonic connection have never been stronger. I was able to call into their tour bus to talk about their humble start to headlining Red Rocks and touring four continents behind their lush new record Living In A Haze. More than ever, the new LP mixes their roving love of jazz, electronic dance music, reggae and folk forms into a sound that is wholly their own. Standout international collabs with Charlotte Cardin (Quebec) and Fatoumata Diawara (Mali) create a gorgeous aural tapestry that is still danceable but shares more raw emotion than previous releases. Both Clemons and Philipp are dads now, so a three month tour is a big family affair - with their band, there are seven kiddos on the bus. Throughout our talk, it was stirring to hear how they've kept the creative fires burning while balancing new pressures like family and relative fame while keeping their own ever-evolving friendship growing. Also, they let us know exactly what a "disco boy" is...and why dancing the night away is still the best medicine if you're feeling lost.

On June 9, Milky Chance will drop their new album Living In A Haze. They've released a couple tracks from it, including the latest single "Golden." The album strikes a nice balance between the alt rock of their debut Sadnecessary and the more experimental Trip Tapes project. Known for their epic live shows, Clemens Rehbein and Philipp Dausch broke out with the global hit "Stolen Dance" in 2012. Since then, the German band has built a deep catalog and expanded their sound. Jordan Edwards and Demi Ramos talk to Rehbein and Dausch about their early days, making the new album, and how their recording process has evolved.

The duo Milky Chance are known for their fun and infectious vibes with songs like Stolen Dance and Colorado amongst many others.  While out in Mexico City, we linked up with singer and guitarist Clemens Rehbein for a lovely chat ahead of their performance at Vive Latino.  We learn more about their choice of singing in English, as opposed to their native German language, collaborations with the likes of Tash Sultana and Jack Johnson and their fusion of countless styles and unorthodox instruments to create a unique sound and style all their own.  Enjoy this episode filled with all the feels of the vibrant cdmx, with even an earthquake thrown in for good measure!

Milky Chance is a German musical duo comprising of singer and songwriter Clemens Rehbein and DJ/producer Philipp Dausch that combines folk/reggae/jazz and more  with electronic  beats.  Their first singe 'Stolen Dance' (2013) was an immediate worldwide hit, quickly followed by their debut album Sadnecessary.
