3 Ways Satan Will Try to Bait You Away From God

Today, on Karl and Crew, we continued our weekly theme of “Abide in God” by discussing the three baits that Satan uses to get us out of proximity with God. We looked at John 15, where Jesus says that we must remain connected to Him to produce fruit and that without Him, we produce nothing. Satan doesn’t want us to be connected and will try to lead us away from Jesus. We turned to Matthew 4, where we analyzed the three ways Satan tried to separate Jesus from God and how he tries to do the same to us. Oftentimes, Satan will use the Hallucination of Salvation to deter us from abiding in God. Phillip Miller joined the conversation and provided insight into how being connected and having our identity rooted in Christ is imperative. Philip is the Senior Pastor of the Moody Church. He can also be heard on the weekly “Moody Church Hour” nationwide radio broadcast on 90.1-WMBI-FM on Sundays at 10 am. Philip also has over 15 years of ministry experience. We also had Susie Larson join us to talk in depth about the grief of life when you are far from Christ. Susie is a best-selling author and national speaker. She also hosts the popular radio show, Susie Larson Live, and shares Daily Blessings on social media, which reaches over half a million people. She has authored several books, including “Strong in Battle.” You can hear the highlights of today’s program on Karl and Crew Showcast.Donate to Moody Radio: http://moodyradio.org/donateto/morningshowSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Today, on Karl and Crew, we dove deeper into our weekly theme of mindset, discussing breaking free from a victimized mindset. We can sometimes develop a victim mentality when we experience traumatic or life-changing events, but instead of dwelling on those experiences, scripture encourages us to shift our focus to the blessings that God has given us. We turned to Colossians 3:2 where Paul tells us to devote our hearts to the things above, rather than the things of this earth. Have you been more focused on the enemy's distractions rather than God's blessings? You're in the right place if… You've been longing to understand how to build true resilience in yourself and your family, especially in a world where life often feels chaotic and overwhelming. You're looking for practical insights on how receiving from God rather than striving in your own strength can transform your peace, relationships, and daily life. You want to create a home where connection with God and others isn't just an idea but a way of life that fosters rest, resilience, and growth for you and your loved ones. Doug and Janet share an energizing and inspirational conversation about these key ideas: Receiving from God: We often equate resilience with pushing through and striving, but true resilience begins with receiving—accepting God's love, wisdom, and strength as the basis for living rather than relying solely on ourselves. We discuss how being a “receiver” of God's truth can help dissolve fear and build a foundation of peace. Rest Over Striving: When we begin with rest, we allow God to be the primary resource for our lives. We share how a daily rhythm of “receiving and resting” in His truth can actually build stronger resilience, versus the burnout that comes from self-reliance. Secure Attachments as a Source of Strength: Building resilience starts with secure attachments to God, family, and community. Living with a secure attachment means we don't have to be our own best resource; instead, we experience transformation through relational connections that ground us. Transformational Relationships Over Transactional Ones: Too often, we look at relationships transactionally, expecting to get something in return. In contrast, transformational relationships foster growth by creating environments where emotional safety, truth-telling, and encouragement lead to real resilience. Linger in these TAKEAWAYS: 1. Resilience Begins with Receiving – Building resilience doesn't mean pushing harder; it means receiving fully from God and leaning into the support He offers through His presence, His Word, and our secure relationships. 2. Rest as a Rhythm for Resilience—Resilience thrives when we intentionally rest and refuse to hustle out of fear. Making rest a daily habit strengthens our ability to face challenges with peace and confidence. 3. Secure Attachment is Foundational – Secure attachments to God and others empower us to live fearlessly. In safe relationships, we experience a transformation that helps us handle life's difficulties with a rooted sense of peace, love, and resilience. A support of a group of prayerful women became a turning point, as Susie likened their encouragement to having an army by her side.During the 2020 pandemic, Susie received a powerful vision of a prayer "power grid," illustrating the strength of intercessory prayer and community support.[05:30] The Power of Community and PrayerSusie emphasizes the importance of community and finding like-minded people to pray and intercede together.Dreams are conceived and achieved in intimacy and the need for new strategies and engagement in the current times. There is power in finding community and continuing to stand firm for a cause or a group, whether it's a school, church, community, or the world.Susie encourages listeners to find their fiery people, pray, and find trust in God together. Doing so can lead to breakthroughs and new strategies.[08:37] Revival and the Church's RoleDuring the pandemic, the resilience of the church has been evident through the depth of faith and spiritual hunger among believers. The church is alive and thriving.`One testimony sparks another, creating a ripple effect of faith and deliverance; sharing your personal story can empower another person to overcome their challenges.[10:48] Personal Testimony of DeliveranceSusie shares a personal story of a woman who experienced a miracle healing after attending a retreat and being prayed for.It serves as a reminder of the importance of persistence in prayer for deliverance and healingAddressing the stigma surrounding mental health, there's a call for believers to root their identity in Christ rather than their struggles. Sharing stories of deliverance not only inspires others but also builds a community of faith and hope.[16:27] Susie: “It takes work to contend, it takes work to contend for freedom. It almost feels better to go, oh, I can just accept this.”[16:40] Surrendering to God vs. CircumstancesThere is a difference between surrendering to God in our circumstances and surrendering to our circumstances.True surrender, Susie explains, is about turning to God in the midst of hardship rather than succumbing to the weight of circumstances. [17:13] Susie: “Surrendering to your circumstances is really like just wearing your affliction like that is your identity, and you accept it and you expect everybody else to accept where surrendering to God in your circumstances, say this is real. I'm walking through it. It's hard, it's messy. It does not define me.”By acknowledging pain without letting it define us, we can hold onto holy anticipation and faith in God's promises. Freedom requires active contemplation, encouraging listeners to reject the lie that their afflictions are their identity and instead live boldly in the victory God has promised.[18:00] Practical Steps to Trust in GodReagan asks Susie how she copes with her own health challenges and feeling unwell.Community and prayer were central to Susie finding resilience despite the health issues she had.Reaching out to her prayer partners and entering into the throne room of God are key parts of her strategy. Additionally, Susie uses a redeemed imagination to visualize herself healthy and strong, reinforcing her trust in God's healing power.[24:38] The Power of Imagination and VisualizationThere is a powerful science behind visualization and how it can help with healing and achieving goals. She shares a story of a doctor who helped a patient visualize walking again and how it led to the patient's recovery.Susie encourages listeners to use their imagination to picture themselves well and to seek God's vision for their next place of promise.A redeemed imagination is grounded in Biblical principles.[33:12] Susie: “Your dreams should be so big that they're destined to fail without divine intervention, otherwise, your dreams are too small.”[33:45] Upcoming Initiatives and Invitation to JoinIntroducing her upcoming initiative, "Activate for Good," Susie outlines its focus on renewing the mind, setting goals, and supporting a global cause. Partnering with Venture, the initiative aims to rescue girls from human trafficking through physical and spiritual disciplines.Susie invites listeners to join the initiative, set their own goals, and raise funds to support the cause.Community and accountability go a long way toward achieving personal and global goals.About Susie LarsonSusie Larson is an author, speaker, and radio host, celebrated for her unwavering faith and resilience in the face of life's challenges. While God does allow suffering, there's nothing He allows that He doesn't redeem. That's a truth author and podcaster Susie Larson had to come to grips with when she processed her emotion over what God had allowed her to face. Disappointment comes naturally when the "good life" lets us down. Discouragement is understandable when we face life's struggles. In all of that, the goodness of God is trustworthy, life-giving, and everlasting. Jesus wants to lead you on a healing path to redeem your story and to make you whole.
