In this compelling episode, Pastor Karl dives into Romans 14, exploring what he calls "Applied Christianity." This chapter challenges both seasoned and new believers to navigate the balance between personal freedom in Christ and public restraint for the sake of others. Pastor Karl unpacks the concept of spiritual maturity, emphasizing private liberty and public restriction as biblical principles rooted in love. He addresses the tension between those strong in faith, who live in the freedom of grace, and those weak in faith, who adhere to stricter rules, using the historical context of meat sacrificed to idols to illustrate disputable matters. Through practical examples like alcohol, Halloween, and homeschooling, Pastor Karl highlights how non-essential issues should not divide the church. He introduces the "law of love," urging listeners to prioritize others' faith over personal freedoms, and explains the Bema Seat judgment, where Christians are rewarded for their sacrifices, not judged for salvation. Join Pastor Karl for a thought-provoking discussion on living out faith with grace, love, and unity.Watch all our sermons on our youtube channel "Flipside Christian Church"Join us in person 9:00am & 10:30am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm

I invite you to continues our exploration of the French words for hope, "espoir" and "esperance," and to dive deeper into their biblical and cultural significance. Scripture draws parallels between the biblical story of Babel in Genesis 11 and the unifying power of hope in Christ. God orchestrated Scripture to be translatable in all languages, which reverses the curse of Babel and offers the potential in Christ to unite us under the banner of hope. As I was researching the connections between "espoir" and "esperance," I was blown away to discover two verses in Scripture that hold both verses together. They have much to tell us, as we too hold both "espoir" and "esperance" in our own hearts. The first, in the Old Testament, unveils the significance of Job's despair and his quest for true hope; the second, in the New Testament, highlights Paul's profound insights into the essence of hope. These complementary perspectives on hope, stemming from Job, the oldest book in the Bible, and 1st Timothy, one of Paul's last letters, ground us deeply in our King and Savior, Jesus Christ. But Esperance is fading from the French landscape. So, I asked both Christian and non-Christian French friends and family members about the influence of Esperance in their lives today. The answers are striking, and I want to invite you to discover them with me – so that you too can form your own informed experience of Esperance in Christ. It has much to do with a deeply felt experience of despair apart from Esperance. Next, I invite you to (re)discover a famous French thinker and author, Blaise Pascal, to embrace the delicate interplay between reason, faith, and mystery. Through Pascal's eloquent words and profound insights, let's see what we can learn about the transformative potential of faith and reason working in harmony. The emphasis on humility, the coexistence of science and faith, and the acknowledgement of the limitations of human understanding in the life and work of Blaise Pascal inspire contemplation and introspection, encouraging us to explore the depths of our beliefs with open hearts and minds. Pastor Dale Benson Romans 5:1-5 We throw the word “hope” around a lot. Most often in scripture we find hope accompanied by other virtues or circumstances that shape it or give definition to it. * “Where then is my hope – who can see any hope for me?” – Job * “For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord. Plans to prosper and not to harm you. Plans for a future and a hope.” – The Prophet Jeremiah Very often, hope gets overshadowed by the other virtues it gets grouped with. Take for example, Paul's letter to the church at Corinth: * “And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love, but the greatest of these is love.” – The Apostle Paul Hope is rarely revealed in isolation. Often, hope brings along companions like faith, love, joy, patience, long suffering. For the Christian, hope should be compared more too a huge, solid, safe rock, rather than a vapor. Biblical Hope vs Western Hope (The Rock/Anchor vs Vapor) * In Greek Mythology: * Pandora brings with her a jar containing "burdensome toil and sickness that brings death to men,” diseases, and "a myriad other pain.” * Prometheus had – fearing further reprisals – warned his brother Epimetheus not to accept any gifts from Zeus. But Epimetheus did not listen; he accepted Pandora, who promptly scattered the contents of her jar. As a result, Hesiod tells us, “The earth and sea are full of evils.” One item, however, did not escape the jar: hope. * Only hope was left within her unbreakable house, she remained under the lip of the jar, and did not fly away. Before [she could], Pandora replaced the lid of the jar. This was the will of aegis-bearing Zeus the Cloud gatherer. * We are not told why hope remained in the jar. Was one of the other demons or spirits to be released on humanity? Was hope different than the others? Elipis does not maintain a very important role in Greek mythology and some even hold a negative view of her as Elpis is often simply translated “anticipation.” * We must remember, however that the Hebrew people from whom the Jews were descendants, did not view hope from the same perspective. * The Hebrew word Tikvah has the meaning of something strong and sure. Like we read earlier in Jeremiah: I know the plans I have for you. . . Not for evil, but for a future and a hope! Romans 5:1-5 (NLT) Hope that is seen is not hope. . . What Paul is basically saying here is you don't have to hope for something when it is already in your hand. Colossians 1:25-29 (NLT) Hope lights the path to the manger that reminds us of God's faithfulness in the past. Hope lights the path toward the return of Christ and our faithfulness in the future. “Christ in you” assures the reflection of that same hope through you to others in the present!
Biblical Hope finds rest in God's promises. Therefore, we must know the promises of God found richly in His Word. We also can look to certain Biblical figures, such as the Virgin Mary, as models who cultivated Hope in habit and in prayer, doing so in ways that caught God's attention and earned His treasured descriptor of “highly favored”.
Biblical hope is trusting in Gods promises to be filled in surprising and creative ways. God breaks into the darkness with his light as he seeks to redeem and restore. If you prefer to listen, stream, and/or watch, join us and subscribe on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@kingwoodmethodist
As we enter the Advent season, we embark on a journey of reflection centered around hope. Hope can be viewed at from all different perspectives. What is biblical hope and where does it come from? In what truth is our hope placed in and who does it come from? Often, we place our hope in the temporary. We strive after things which we think will give us confidence. We forget the Creator of the Universe has called us to hope in something different... something more... Himself. Today, Pastor John Flint, who will be launching Summit Ridge Henderson gave his inaugural sermon at Summit Ridge. Listen as he reminds us of the foundations of Biblical hope and the Person and Work in which we put our hope in.

When you came to Christ, Jesus filled you with hope. Now you have hope for the future, hope for eternity, and hope in God's help for day-to-day living. Biblical Hope is not just emotional well-wishing. Biblical hope is the confidence that God will fulfill what He has promised. Joy and peace come from the hope you have in Christ.
True, Biblical hope has very little in common with what most people call hope. True, Biblical hope is a vital component in the life of faith. To watch the video of this message, you can watch us on Victory Channel (Dish 265 or DirecTV 366 or Spectrum cable) and you can always watch our broadcasts on demand on our website or our YouTube Channel! For more information regarding David Weeter Ministries, to send prayer requests, praise reports or to become a Covenant Partner with us to get this uncompromised Word of the Living God out to the world, please visit our website: DavidWeeter.orgSupport the show
We continue in the second half of the first chapter in the book of Ephesians for our sermon series called Together in Him and for Him. Today we ask God to open our eyes to the hope that he has called us to, the riches of his glorious inheritance, and the incomparably great power that is available to us as Christians. As followers of Christ, our main purpose is to know and pursue God more and in this we need to realize that we are God's greatest treasure now and forever more. Because we have biblical hope, we can trust with certainty that God treasures us, and we are not left abandoned. We learn from scripture that our faith in God and our love for others is a constant and continual litmus test of the condition of our souls. Do you have hope for eternity? Are there questions gnawing at your faith? Know that that's perfectly normal, and we'd love to answer any questions you have and take time to pray with you. We will all experience pain at some point in our lives. When pain does come, what do we do with it? There are helpful and unhelpful ways to deal with it. The Bible gives us plenty of direction in what we should do with our pain. When we lament Biblically we open ourselves up to God's healing mercy. Bible Text: Psalm 77 | Preacher: Jeremy Hager
As we close our shared season of Advent, we look at Hope through both a social and theological lens. Biblical Hope, we learn, focuses far more on waiting well than on the potential satisfaction of desire. As people of the Word, we need a personal Liturgy that helps us “eat the scroll” of God's scripture, which uniquely refreshes us in seasons of Hopeful waiting.
