Thirteenth-ranked Indiana is 8-0 for the first time since 1967 following a win over Washington. Correspondent Tom Maccabe reports.
The guys from Dawgman.com - Scott Eklund and Chris Fetters - got together Friday to put together their Indiana pregame show, and like what they did ahead of Washington's game at Iowa they wanted to give UW fans a chance to get acquainted with UW's opponent well ahead of time because of the early start time Saturday morning in Seattle. To start, they go back and talk about the things that both Jedd Fisch and the UW Coordinators - Brennan Carroll and Steve Belichick - worked on during the recent BYE week, and given the current 4-3 record and how the season has evolved, they took deep dives into basically every aspect of the program. They also talked about the recruiting work put in, as Fisch said the coaches hit a combined 75 high school football games during the BYE week. Then after a quick break, it was time to talk about UW and Indiana. The Hoosiers are hosting College Game Day for the first time ever, and there's also going to be a 'Red Out', so there is no question the partisan UI fans are going to be beyond hyped for this game. The guys went into what has made Indiana's defense one of the top scoring defenses in the country. A big part of it has not only been the continuity of bringing former James Madison DC Bryant Haines with him to Bloomington, but also a number of experienced, productive players with him. That theme continued on the other side of the ball when talking about the Hoosiers' top scoring offense in the country, even though they won't have the services of starting quarterback Kurtis Rourke. Tayven Jackson came in the second half of their 56-7 whitewashing of Nebraska to lead four touchdown drives, so there wasn't any letup from UI after losing Rourke to a thumb injury. It coincides with Washington getting top EDGE Zach Durfee back. Can UW's front make enough noise against the top-graded OL in the B1G (according to Pro Football Focus) to force Jackson off his spot and make him try and complete some ill-advised throws against statistically the top pass defense in the country? The guys wrap up their pregame show with their thoughts on not only what it's going to take for the Huskies to pull out an unlikely win against the unbeaten Hoosiers, but also an update on 2025 TE commit Vander Ploog, who is taking an official visit to Oregon this weekend after unofficially visiting Eugene for the Ohio State game. What does that mean for his commitment to UW, and what has Washington been doing during the BYE week in terms of offering players that are currently committed to other programs? The offensive line was awesome, the pass rush dominant, and the receivers exceptional. One issue: Kurtis Rourke suffered a thumb injury that will knock him out from IU's next matchup. The Hoosiers are No. 13 in the country, and they face Washington on Saturday with the Huskies coming off a bye. Mike Niziolek and Zach Osterman break down Indiana's 56-7 rout of Nebraska, where the Hoosiers turn with Kurtis Rourke out injured and what to expect from his backup, Tayven Jackson, with ESPN GameDay bound for Bloomington.
We ended up recording a giddy live edition of the weekly recap podcast, as we looked back in satisfaction and awe of the Indiana Hoosiers' 56-7 defenestration of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. On the show, we dove deep into Indiana's dominance in all three phases of the game, the remarkable job done by the offensive line, the insane rushing attack, and the consistency and aggressiveness of the defense. We also talk about Kurtis Rourke's injury, Tayven Jackson's laudable pinch-hitting performance at QB, and the great job that the coaches continue to do.We also discuss the overall atmosphere in Bloomington and around the stadium yesterday, one of the greatest advertisements for IU football that we've ever seen - FOX Sports and Barstool both on site, a beautiful weather day, and an electric atmosphere inside a sold-out Memorial Stadium. This is a fun show, hope you enjoy it.

Featured Musician: Pajamas The Video: [After THE JUMP: The things said.] --------------------- 1. Indiana Preview: Offense starts at noon Might be the worst we face, despite a few nice pieces. QB situation is awful: Tayven Jackson won the job because Brendan Sorsby is worse and the guy they were hoping to use is probably out for the season. They really miss AJ Barner as they have a group of TEs who are all pretty bad. A couple of longtime starters on the interior. Jaylin Lucas is a jitterbug to be wary of, and the one thing that's really been working. Seth thinks Cam Camper is a star, Alex refuses to Dangerman more than one player on this awful offense. 2. Indiana Preview: Defense starts at 12:15pm Tom Allen knows how to coach a defense. Watch out for cornerback blitzes and funky stuff, but they're pretty rough in some places. Don't know how they got Andre Carter from WMU—their other transfers are bad and there are many of them. Aaron Casey at MLB is the guy to watch as a squirrely LB who get his nose into places. How did they give OSU fits? 3. Seth's Hockey Cast starts around 12:30pm First weekend results are mixed. The 4-on-5 and 5-on-6 units need work. Goalie situation: not great. Defense is three deep—three dudes not lines—even though the top is great. Grittiness is a check but speed lacking from previous talent-overloaded teams. 4. Minnesota After Review starts around 12:45pm More of the same. JJ and Graham are All-Americans. Offense is bringing out interesting counters to Power as they develop that game instead of zone stretch. Defense's thing this week was stretches, because they will spread out their edges and leave the DTs with no linebacker help. Understandable, but exploitable. Also it only got them a 54-yard FG attempt. The TD was a situational awareness issue. Colson talk? About the Featured Musician: PAJAMAS This year we are partnering with The Blind Pig for bumper music, since that's where I've seen most of the bands I've been pushing anyways. This is the week I've been saving for personal fave Pajamas, an Ann Arbor jammy quartet that creates a psychedelic improvisational rock and funk music. Since forming in 2015 Pajamas has played hundreds of shows across the Midwest and beyond. They've opened for big touring acts across the Midwest and are coming to the Blind Pig on October 28th (the bye week) for two sets. The second is a bunch of Pink Floyd covers. Song choices: Time & Place Where the Story Ends Soothe Your Groove Also because Across 110th Street will get our Youtubes taken now now, the opener and outro: “The Employee is Not Afraid”—Bear vs. Shark “Ruska Vodka”—Motorboat

2 hour and 10 minutes The Sponsors Thank you to Underground Printing for making this all possible. Rishi and Ryan have been our biggest supporters from the beginning. Our associate sponsors are: Peak Wealth Management, Matt Demorest - Realtor and Lender, Ann Arbor Elder Law, Michigan Law Grad, The Phil Klein Insurance Group, Winewood Organics, Human Element, Venue by 4M where we recorded this, and The Nose Bleeds, which is the Sklars Bros' reboot of Cheap Seats on UFC Fight Pass. 1. Offense vs Bowling Green Starts at 1:00 At least everyone else in the country played the same game this weekend. Allow us to talk you off the ledge! Let's talk about JJ's interceptions, the first one was probably a bad read into a zone. Take our word that this was a very visual segment. Should not be throwing to Cornelius Johnson on the 2nd interception. The third interception was maybe not a bad idea? It kind of feels like the program didn't take any of these non-conference games seriously. Run game ran a zone stretch for zero yards and then shelved it entirely. There's some concern that a lot of off-season time was wasted because a lot of transfers couldn't practice together and they're learning new material. They ditched outside zone and suddenly things looked better. Tight end blocking was pretty good. One nice thing about this game - it felt like Blake Corum is back! [The rest of the writeup and the player after THE JUMP] 2. Defense vs Bowling Green Starts at 44:56 Connor Bazelak doesn't play, Bowling Green's 2nd string QB gets hurt, they play a 3rd-string walk-on for the second half and pretty much just mail it in. Not a whole lot to say otherwise, but they did at least try in the first half. Josh Wallace got beat on a play that should've been a touchdown. Shout out to Kris Jenkins for making the 2nd half far less annoying. We apologize for bringing up the 2005 season. 3. Hot Takes, Game Theory, and Special Teams Starts at 57:21 Takes hotter than the media maelstrom around Coach Prime. Please stop kicking it to the up-back, thanks. Interesting to see them go back and forth between Jake Thaw and Tyler Morris for punt returns. It feels like they didn't take these game super seriously and they used it as an opportunity to try new things, like outside zone. The discussion of the light show is pretty reflective of the overall fanbase. Stop buying Dr. Pepper to protest the abysmal number of college football commercials! Everyone switch to Phil Klein insurance because they don't advertise during football games! 4. Around the Big Ten with Jamie Mac Starts at 1:22:57 Rutgers - 35 Virginia Tech - 16 Rutgers has accomplished this with 46 passing yards! Virginia Tech has fallen on hard times, and Rutgers is 3-0. Michigan State - 7 Washington - 41 It was worse than this sounds. Washington set the record for yards against Michigan State in a game with 713. Michigan State had the opportunity to rally around their program here but they looked like they wanted to go home after the 2nd drive. Their offensive line is god awful again. Maryland - 42 Virginia - 14 This looked grim early when Virginia took a 14-0 lead but Maryland blew the doors open in the 2nd half. The Terps seem to have a functioning passing game. Penn State - 30 Illinois - 13 Penn State got most of their first half points due to Illinois throwing horrendous interceptions (Altmyer threw four!). This made it look like Penn State isn't going to be able to move the ball against Michigan much. Indiana - 14 Louisville - 21 Looks like Indiana has found their quarterback in Tayven Jackson (24/33, 299 yards 1TD 1INT). Indiana had a chance to tie it on the Louisville one yard line and couldn't punch it in. They've averaged 2.9 yards per rush between Louisville and Ohio State. Minnesota - 13 North Carolina - 31 Not sure if this changes much about what we think about Minnesota. Maybe their identity should be run-first but their offensive line is really struggling. PJ Fleck put in a true freshman at guard. Defense gave up 414 passing yards but did get two interceptions. Nebraska - 35 Northern Illinois - 11 Nebraska's QB, Heinrch Haarberg, threw 24 times for 158 but also ran 21(!) times. Heinrich wasn't even on the travel roster last year. Nebraska's 3-3-5 will be interesting when they play Michigan because Michigan's answer to that is supposed to be outside zone and Michigan's scrapping it. Nebraska's still trying to get the Scott Frost out (they ran their first offensive play with 10 players) but they've still got some good players. Purdue - 20 Syracuse - 35 Purdue let Syracuse's QB go Denard on them. Purdue's defense is still a project and the offense is still very Purdue. Wisconsin - 35 Georgia Southern - 14 Georgia Southern's quarterback turned it over six times! They actually outgained Wisconsin. Tanner Mordecai had a stretch where he completed one pass on ten attempts and then he turned it back on near the end of the 3rd quarter. Not sure what's going to happen in Wisconsin vs Purdue next week. Iowa - 41 Western Michigan - 10 Cade McNamara was 9/19 for 103 yards, 2 TDs and 2 INTs, look what they've done to my boy. Iowa offense is in mid-season form. Iowa's starting tight end might be done for the season, so it's time for Erick All to step up. Northwestern - 14 Duke - 38 Ohio State - 63 Western Kentucky - 10 MUSIC: “Quarry”— Wednesday “Les Fleurs”— Minnie Riperton “When the Morning Comes”— Kalapana “Across 110th Street”

Jimmy has some reservations about Gardner Minshew though. (1:21:30-1:22:34) – The one o'clock hour concludes with Jake trying to find more information out about the Star Wars series because of Jimmy's shirt. (1:22:34-1:44:24) – Jake and Jimmy kick off the final hour of the show by taking a step back and looking at the other things that happened in the NFL. Eventually, they get back to the Colts by discussing Anthony Richardson's self-reported concussion. They guess whether they think he will play this weekend in Baltimore. (1:44:24-1:57:46) – With a handful of callers on hold, Jake and Jimmy take some calls pertaining to Sunday's game. One caller acknowledges that Minshew has value when it comes to being traded but doesn't want to see Minshew traded. Mathieu from Maine chimes in with concern of Richardson's long-term health. (1:57:46-2:01:08) – Today's show ends with Jimmy sharing the JCook Plays of the Day ahead of tonight's Monday Night Football doubleheader!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Tayven Jackson and Brendan Sorsby will compete for QB1, Andre Carter will lead a new-look defensive line, and Matt Guerrieri takes over play-calling on the defensive side.
