In this interesting talk, Dr. Evan Steeg joins us to chat about the fast progress and the right and wrong parts of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Dr. Steeg knows a lot about AI and has worked with it for a long time. He talks about how AI is becoming more common, the dangers it might bring, and why it's important to use it responsibly. He says that while AI can help people and businesses a lot, we need to be careful with things like privacy and making sure it's fair for everyone. We talk about how AI can be used in creative tasks and in business, and also about the tricky problems we need to solve. Dr. Steeg believes that even as we use more AI, it's important to keep human values in mind. 00:00 Looking at the Future of AI: What Could Go Right or Wrong 00:59 Let's Dive Deep into AI with Dr. Evan Steeg 01:21 Dr. Steeg's Lifelong Interest in AI 02:01 Going from Science Fiction to Real AI 05:05 How AI Changed from Being in Books to Being Real 13:21 How AI Affects Us: Is it Fair and Easy to Use? 20:08 Will AI Make Jobs Better or Take Them Away? 24:06 Getting Ready for a World with Lots of AI 26:35 Remembering What Makes Us Human Even with AI Around 26:49 Why Being Good with People Matters Even in a High-Tech World 28:37 Being Curious Helps Us Learn and Make New Things 31:29 How School Needs to Change for Our Digital Time 35:35 Why Personal Stories Are More Important Than Tests 40:47 How AI Will Help Us Grow Personally and at Work 47:05 Why We Need to Think About What's Right and Wrong with AI
On this week's hemp podcast, Lancaster Farming continues checking in with hemp producers around the country. Ray DePriest, from SunRay Hemp, tells us about growing hemp at 62 degrees north latitude in Palmer, Alaska — 60 miles north of Anchorage — where his family's been farming since the 1930s, first as potato farmers, then dairy. Now they focus primarily on hay. This is Ray's third year of growing hemp in Alaska. We hear from Theo Wahquahboshkuk, operations manager at Prairie Band Ag, a hemp company owned and operated by the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation in northeast Kansas, where the business is growing fiber, grain and flower. Closer to home, we talk with Caleb Kauffman of Lancashire Hemp Farms in Narvon, Pennsylvania. Kauffman prefers to plant his CBD crop later in July. Because Lancashire Farms focuses on “top-shelf smokable flower,” planting later in the season keeps the plants smaller and more manageable. Katharine Dubansky, co-owner of Back Bone Hemp, checks in from the mountains of Garrett County, Maryland, where she has planted triploid varieties of cannabinoid flower and a small test plot of a fiber variety. And finally, we hear from Ben Brimlow, lead agronomist at IND HEMP in Montana, where they contract with farmers across the Northwest to grow grain and fiber varieties of hemp. Today we’re continuing with our theme for March - Your Powerful Life - and we’re going to talk about “The Shadow Side of our Strengths”. Now this may sound counterintuitive to our theme, but just like Superman knows that kryptonite compromises his strengths, knowing our weaknesses can help to keep us confident and on the right track. Learn how to see the shadows for what they are, how to bring your fears into the light, and why we need to use our strengths to better ourselves and the world around us.Questions to Think About:What are your strengths? What are the shadows that come with it? What flags do you need to pay attention to?Are you giving yourself the permission to interact with the world the way you want to and are wired to? Are you happy with the way that you’re navigating the world? Is there fear holding you in the shadows that’s preventing you from achieving your potential? What is that fear? What are your true beliefs to overcome it?
Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!Thank you so much for joining me again!Happy Monday! This week's theme for the podcast is: 5 Types of NegativityThis week I am going to be chatting about 5 types of negativity we all struggle with at some point & need to focus on overcoming & breaking free from. Some of these emotions can seem not as serious as I make these out to be, but are very important to work through because it's behaviors & feelings that are so wrapped up in who we are as people day to day. Here are some notes from today's episode:If there is anything I am the queen of, it's perfectionism. I have struggled with perfectionism since I was a child. Partly because of the expectations that were thrusted upon me & partly because I felt the need to always be the best I could be, even more so than others.Perfectionism is a learned behavior & can develop from different experiences. And those that struggle with perfectionism tend to believe that they are only valuable because of what they can do for others or based on their achievements.Perfectionism is considered one of the worst types of negativity because it can correlate with depression, anxiety, self-harm, & even eating disorders. There is a high probability that with perfectionism comes other mental health struggles. Those that struggle with perfectionism have a fear of some sort of inner weakness being exposed if they don't perform at the highest level or live up to others expectations. The deeper the perfectionism, the more stress that person brings onto themself. There is also the problem that perfectionists are only happy when they reach perfection & since that doesn't generally happen, happiness doesn't happen very often. But it's hard to get out of the trap of trying to be perfect at everything.Today I want to give you some steps I think will help you overcome perfectionist behaviors. I have 5 ideas that could help you move on from getting lost in that mindset.Step 1: Obvs Acknowledge Your Behavior & What It's Costing YouStep 2: Think About What's the Worst that Could HappenStep 3: Be Aware of How You Speak to YourselfStep 4: Manage Your Expectations (this will help with feeling disappointed all the time in yourself and others)Step 5: Adopt a Growth Mindset (instead of seeing everything as mistakes & failures) & Enjoy the Process (instead of focusing on the end result)Please share this podcast with anyone that may need this encouragement!Thank you again for listening & I hope this episode was helpful.Come visit me on my Instagram page @realpositivegirlpodcast or @sabrinajoyperozzo to say hi!Have any questions, comments or feedback? This is Part 4 speaking about the pros of forgiveness in the article by the Mayo Clinic called: “Forgiveness: Letting go of grudges and bitterness”. We dive more into the physical, mental and emotional benefits of forgiving someone. This is a multi-part series that will speak on the pros and cons of forgiveness. Something to Think About: What if what you want/are looking for, is on the other side of forgiveness? What would you do to get it? Has any of these pros happened to you when you have forgiven someone of an offense? What is keeping you from experiencing these same benefits now? Ask God to show you what they are and to give you the strength to overcome it. "Meditation is intentional about holding the space for listening for God's still small voice."—J. Dana Trent Episode 69 of Spirituality for Ordinary People features another interview with J. Dana Trent. Dana was on episode 67 speaking about the practice of Sabbath, and this time she is back sharing about Christian Meditation. She is a graduate of Duke Divinity School and professor of World Religions and Critical Thinking at Wake Tech Community College. An ordained Baptist minister and former hospital chaplain, her work has appeared on Time.com, and in Religion News Service, Sojourners, Religion Dispatches, and The Christian Century. Key Learnings The word "meditation" is in scripture. It means "to ponder," "to reflect." Prayer is about talking to God, Meditation is about listening. It is about holding space to listen for the still, small voice of God. Meditation has physiological benefits, including the body's ability to calm itself. Things to Think About What can you do to create space to breathe and listen for God? Spiritual Practices Discussed in this Episode Breath Meditation Loving Kindness Meditation Links and Resources: J. "I knew all this stuff about God but I was lacking in terms of how much I knew God in my personhood, in my lived experience..."—Phileena Heuertz Episode 68 of Spirituality for Ordinary People features an interview with Phileena Heuertz. Phileena has spent her life in social justice work among the world’s poor. A member of the New Friar movement, for nearly 20 years she and her husband Chris served with Word Made Flesh in more than 70 countries building community among victims of human trafficking, survivors of HIV and AIDS, abandoned children and child soldiers and war brides. Author, spiritual director, yoga instructor, public speaker and retreat guide, Phileena is passionate about spirituality and making the world a better place. Key Learnings There is a deep connection between Contemplative Spirituality and being socially engaged. Sometimes you have to let your dog out, even when considering the deepest of issues. As one becomes more and more connected to God it implies a greater connection to others. We have inherited an unhealthy expectation of a separation between contemplation and action. We have intellectualized the faith so much and divorced our intellectual beliefs from what difference it makes in our life and in the world around us. Jesus truly lived his spirituality. It wasn't primarily about intellectual beliefs. A lot of us approach happiness externally (e.g. "if I could just get..."). Joy comes when we develop a capacity to live into our best selves in the midst of the real circumstances of life. Things to Think About What can you do in your life to bring together your personal relationship with Jesus and your active engagement in the world? How might contemplative Spiritual practices provide you with tools to bring these together? Do you think you would be willing to try engaging more in contemplative practices? Spiritual Practices Discussed in this Episode Lectio Divina, Breath Prayer, Centering Prayer, Labyrinth, Yoga Links and Resources: Phileena Heuertz's website Mindful Silence: The Heart of Christian Contemplation by Phileena Heuertz Pilgrimage of a Soul: Contemplative Spirituality for the Active Life by Phileena Heuertz Gravity Center Join others in contributing financially to help pay for hosting and equipment costs. How to Change Your Life and Why It Feels Hard Podcast is at the bottom of this page for your listening pleasure or find it on iTunes under Millennials and Money Cafe Or you can read below: I thought you'd like the notes on the tapping I take you through. To start, I'd like you to Think About: What would you love to have all the time in your life? You can do this by taking a piece of paper and drawing a line down the middle of it. On the top write familiar for one column and unfamiliar for the other. On one the familiar side put what you want to change and on the other side list what you want. See below for examples. You can PAUSE the video now for 1 min. and make the list and then listen as I will have many more examples you can fill in later. We are creatures of comfort. We do what comes easy even if it’s not good for us (an addiction) and we want something else because our comfort is in what is familiar. So what is familiar? It is something that you’ve done many times that now doesn’t feel new, hard or awkward to you. A lot of your familiar characteristics and habits are formed in childhood. So unless you change have applied new practices of ways of being and believing and made them your new familiar you are still living your childhood programming (your home, school, culture, education, political, social economics … environments) Your self-esteem, wealth issues, social comfort, relationships, well-being…are all a result of your past experiences and influences. If you are trying to become more successful in any area of your life, accomplish a goal that is out of your familiar comfort zone, you will NOT achieve it unless you choose unfamiliar thoughts/feelings/actions and practice them long enough so they become familiar. You don’t know what you don’t know! Making the unfamiliar familiar requires daily choices, awareness, repetition, persistence and commitment. Example: I stopped eating dairy because it made my psoriasis flare up and it was hard to not eat it when it was everywhere around me...but my vanity was more important than my addiction to dairy and I wanted healthy skin so I would feel good about myself. Your brain wants what is familiar, it goes with habit or what is easiest unless you give it directions. You do what you know until you learn something new and apply it to living your life. That is what I am teaching you now and giving you an opportunity to reprogram with the tapping session coming up. I am going to show you the new unfamiliar you might KNOW you can have and become. We each need people in our life who show us what is possible, give us permission in a way to become what feels more true and aligned with our soul-self than the programming we are living that was taught to us at a young age and we live out as being who we are as adults. It can feel hard to break habits/patterns because they are familiar. The hard part is putting your attention on the good, inspiring, praising, uplifting, successful – unfamiliar focus and take your focus off your old limiting familiar stuff that is holding you back from creating what you want. EX: Believing in yourself instead of beating yourself up with negative self-talk such as I don’t matter or I'm never enough. What would you like to be more familiar with in your life? Believe in yourself Feeling Love Friends that value you for you Feel safe being you Having your own successful business Having a partner that loves and respects you Feeling vibrant, happy and healthy Peace and harmony It’s not arrogant to think you’re the best or good thoughts about yourself-you’re not saying you’re the best in everything. You’re rewiring your brain to the experience of pleasure, wealth, co0nfidence, well-being and love… that were not familiar to you as a child, so you can create them in your life NOW. Ask Yourself how can my life get, feel, be better? What would I have to think, feel and do? Inspired, Whole Amazing
This week’s theme - What’s your vision? What do you see on “the other side”. In last week’s podcast, I asked you to share what you saw when you got to Happy Land!! In the podcast, I suggested you draw a picture (nothing elaborate) or even write down what you want. What you SEE and how you would FEEL once you get to “Happy Land”. So – what IS your vision and how the hell do you get there? About 3 years ago, I had a woman come to me and say “I want to make better choices”. At first it was really all about physical health. The usual – lose weight. Well, I’m not a “health coach”, but I understood she needed help with the “how” and the accountability. I agreed to take her on as a private coaching client. As we would meet and talk thru what she wanted, it wasn’t well “you can’t eat this or that, you have to work out, or you won’t succeed”. It was conversations full of her why. Her VISION. What did she see in her HAPPY LAND? Stop eating McDonalds every morning for breakfast and starting to walk at lunch is the obvious part. Her vision included financial, emotional AND physical health. WOW – that was a lot more than she mentioned, but that is what happens when you’re COACHING someone. You don’t just focus on the obvious…because usually that’s a result of something bigger – deeper. WE HAD TO DETERMINE WHAT WAS CAUSING HER TO MAKE UNHEALTHY DECISIONS. THINK ABOUT: What it is YOU want. AND what you need help with (this can be the hard part – so who can help you determine that?) So this week – I want you to think about who it is that YOU want to become. What do you want your legacy to be? If you died tomorrow... what would you hope that people are saying? What do I want you to do? Write your TOMBSTONE MESSAGE! HAHA…YES, THAT’S WHAT I SAID! Make sure you post your message in the comments section! And, if you need help like this client did – with: creating your vision, determining the how, or keeping you focused and holding you accountable Click here to email me to get this going!! SEE you next week! Cheers!
