Have you ever been mad at someone who hadn't done anything to you? Or perhaps felt that someone was upset at you for no reason? She also encourages us to examine our emotions and acknowledge if we have committed transference before. Accepting ourselves is only half of the battle. Nicky guides us into finding solutions to avoid redirecting our negative emotions and feelings to others. If you want to understand emotions, and reconnect with your authentic self, stay tuned to this episode! About Transference ●Transference refers to redirecting the feelings you have from one person to another individual. ●You know you're on the receiving end because you can't find a reasonable explanation for the other person's behavior. ●Nicky experienced transference when she joined a yoga class led by an upset instructor. Tune in to the full episode to hear the story!●Nicky went back to what she learned from Don Miguel Ruiz's The Four Agreements. One of these lessons is don't take anything personally. ●Projecting is different from transference. It refers to attributing your negative emotions and qualities to another person.Nicky's Experience of Committing Transference ●Nicky had a student who kept getting under her skin. She can't figure out why. ●After Nicky's yoga class, a student roughly 30 years her senior would frequently ask her basic questions about the class, or for personal advice.●Instead of reacting negatively, Nicky took the time to examine herself and understand emotions.●She realized she redirected the negative feelings she had with her abusive mother to her student. ●When you lash out at someone, you're expressing your pent-up negative emotions. It's your responsibility to understand why you react the way you do. Not Everyone Can Be a Teacher ●People practice yoga to feel nourished, filled, and connected to their bodies and community. It's not a space to be criticized or dismissed. ●Yoga teachers wield a lot of power and influence. Therefore, they carry a lot of responsibility.●We should focus on quality instead of the number of yoga instructors. ●Yoga teachers must actively pursue their yogic path to teach a more profound type of practice. Understand Emotions, Be Aware of Transference ●The topic of transference reminded Tessa of Ram Dass's quote: "I would like my life to be a statement of love and compassion—and where it isn't, that's where my work lies.”●Examining ourselves if we committed transference is difficult and scary because it makes us vulnerable. ●Yoga teachers should be aware when they redirect negative emotions to others. ●Many tools can help you avoid transference. Peel back the layers of the onion, understand emotions, and scrub yourself!●When you're a recipient of transference, remember that it's the other person's issue and not yours. Continue Reflecting on Ourselves●It's crucial to continue examining ourselves and help others do the same. Take accountability and invite in that compassion and self-study all at once.●There may not be a pot at the end of the rainbow, but it's beautiful to see ourselves evolve through time. ●Working on ourselves allows us to live an authentic life. ●In unraveling our embedded thoughts and beliefs, we become fully present.5 Powerful Quotes from This Episode[13:35] “...we're all works in progress. We all make mistakes — and how do you learn from it?” [21:43] “When you're able to take care of your own demons, they don't become triggers anymore.” [22:34] “Whenever somebody makes you angry, remember that they're an empty boat. That anger exists inside of you. It's your job to understand those triggers. It's your job to not be the reactor.”[24:42] “If people were more conscious and awake about their own personal experience, we wouldn't have as many unfavorable interactions with other people.” [37:46] “The whole purpose of doing all of this is to unravel all of those embedded thoughts and beliefs and transform them into exactly what is present.”About NickyNicky Sciortino is an author, illustrator, and yoga instructor. 11 Tips for Staying Focused and to Achieve Your Goals

As a business owner, there are things you must do in order to accomplish your goals, so you can have the kind of business and life you have dreamed of having. From managing a team to handling clients - and everything in between - it can be easy to lose complete control of your day. We all have the same 24 hours available each day; it's how we chose to use those 24 hours that's makes the difference. Meetings, client services, and a To-Do List a mile long are frequent daily tasks in the world of running a business. The key is to find an effective way to handle our daily routine to stay focused and on track to achieve your goals in the shortest amount of time and the least amount of effort. Tip #1: Break Goals Down Into Daily Action Steps - and Track Them Somewhere between running a business and having a personal life, it's not uncommon for our goals to fall by the wayside. Sure, we write out a Goal List, but it ends up at the bottom of a large stack of papers on our desk or filed away in a drawer, or in an electronic file on your desktop. If you are not paying attention to your goals on a daily basis, you're probably taking the long way around. Break goals down into daily action steps and put them into your daily calendar/diary/or planner. Those action steps should be labeled high priority and handled as early on in the day as possible, or at the best time that leads to the best result. No excuses. Tip #2: Remove Distractions and Interruptions from Your Life Wasting time on low priority tasks is one of the most common sources of interrupting your success. Email - texting - social media - internet surfing - personal phone calls - chatting - etc. are time wasters for many of us. Work hours should be reserved for work. Distractions need to be a thing of the past and not the present, if you want to achieve your goals in the timeframe you have set. (Close email and internet outside specific time blocks. Turn off the ringer on your phone or filter calls through a team member. Remove paperwork that you are not currently working on from your sight.) Create a system that works best for you - and stick to it. Consistent execution of new habits that put you in the highest probability position to make better progress, so you can create the business and life you want is key. Tip #3: Be Aware of Sabotaging Habits No one is ever completely free of self-sabotaging habits, which is why it's important to be aware of your tendencies. When you are aware of your sabotaging habits, you can easily spot them - and stop them - from distracting you from your success. Whether you create procrastination, overwhelm, emotional crisis, physical exhaustion, relationship drama - or a host of other common habits - you're creating self-sabotage. Achieving your goals becomes a lot easier when you can spot troublesome habits, and consciously and quickly get yourself back on track. Tip #4: Get Clear on the Why When you get clear on why you're working on any particular task, you can intellectually grasp whether you really need to be doing it at all or having someone else do it. Try this exercise: Ask yourself, “Why am I doing ___________________ (insert task)?” If your answer isn't a good enough why, you know you shouldn't be spending your valuable time on it, and it is something that needs to be delegated. Tip #5: Chunk Like-Tasks Together Prep time and pre-task setup can eat up huge amounts of your time, so chunk like-tasks together. Another benefit to chunking? Reducing the “scatter-brain” effect. Multi-tasking and jumping between tasks reduces your brain's ability to maintain focus, effectiveness and efficiency. Examples of chunking your time include something like: Listening to voicemail/returning important phone calls - reading emails/replying to urgent inquiries – making prospecting calls – seeing clients in your office – creating marketing materials - coordinating off-site meetings with other appointments/errands - etc. Along this same line of thinking, consider scheduling time to really prepare for the meeting on your calendar (5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes). This helps to ensure you have the right way of being to get the result you want and make sure you aren't thinking of something you just finished or anything else. Also, schedule time after your meeting to complete any actions you need to, so you don't have to try and remember them later in the day, two days later, or at the end of the week. Get things done and the move on to the next meeting or activity with a clear head for that meeting or activity. Tip #6: Create a Time Blocked Schedule Create hour blocks in your workday where you focus on a single task or a chunk of like-tasks. During that block of time, nothing else gets your attention, except the task or tasks in front of you. (Remove all other distractions by clearing your desk, turning off your phone, closing email, etc.) At the end of the block (1, 2, 3 or 4 hours) whatever was on your calendar is now finished. Let it go and move on to the next scheduled task. Tip #7: Live Life By Appointment Only! When someone calls in, have your assistant take a complete and in-depth message, and schedule a time you will return the call. I have never heard of anyone who says the like ‘phone tag.' So, stop phone tag! Meet with your assistant and other team members by appointment only to reduce interruptions. One exception to this rule that I can think of is that the building is burning and someone needs to tell you to get out – you don't need an appointment for that… As much as possible, live your life by face-to-face or phone appointments only. You'll be amazed at how much more efficient you and your team will be by applying this one single concept alone. Tip #8: Ready-Set-Go! For intense task completion, use a timer and set it for 5, 10, 15, 20 or 30 minutes. Using a timer allows you to create a game or healthy competition against the clock - giving your focus and energy an edge. You'd be surprised how much you can accomplish when you create a fun or somewhat competitive environment. Tip #9: Do What You Do Best, Delegate the Rest You should only be focusing on the tasks that you complete with the greatest efficiency, effectiveness and results. Everything else should be delegated to a team member, assistant, or virtual assistant who produces the best results. Ask yourself, “Could someone else do what I'm doing, if I just assigned it to them, told them how or gave them a process to get it done?” Too many entrepreneurs I talk to hold on to things way too long just because they have always done them. Successful entrepreneurs are good delegators! Download my Free Delegation List Sample Exercise to help you identify more activities to delegate, by going to http://bit.ly/2Qc5adp. Tip #10: Leverage Your Peak Energy Each person has their own unique time of the day when they are at their peak energy. Whether you're an early bird or night owl, tackle the tasks that require the most energy and focus to complete during your unique peak energy - you'll get more done in less time with optimal results. Ask yourself, “When is the best time to get the best result for the various activities you do each day?” Tip #11: Eat Healthy for Real Energy Being an entrepreneur requires real energy; sugar, caffeine, and processed foods only offer a false energy and the afternoon energy crash can be severe. Reduce or eliminate sugar, caffeine, and processed foods as much as possible, while boosting raw fruits, vegetables, nuts and whole grains to maintain steady and consistent high energy. Some studies suggest having a small snack/meal every 2-3 hours. Understand Emotions and the Consequences of Transference with long time listener Nicky Sciortino Have you ever been mad at someone who hadn't done anything to you? Or perhaps felt that someone was upset at you for no reason? Everyone handles negative emotions differently — some people respond with forgiveness and mindfulness. However, sometimes we hold those negative emotions inside us. If we don't  , we pass them onto others and get angry at people who don't deserve it. This phenomenon is called transference.   In this episode, Nicky Sciortino discusses transference and its significance in our lives. This episode is brought to you by... She loved listening to the podcast, especially during the pandemic, where she couldn't talk to her friends as much. Listening to the show was like getting to have girl talk with her friends. About Transference Transference refers to redirecting the feelings you have from one person to another individual. You know you're on the receiving end because you can't find a reasonable explanation for the other person's behavior. Nicky experienced transference when she joined a yoga class led by an upset instructor. Tune in to the full episode to hear the story! Nicky went back to what she learned from Don Miguel Ruiz's The Four Agreements. One of these lessons is don't take anything personally. Projecting is different from transference. It refers to attributing your negative emotions and qualities to another person. Nicky's Experience of Committing Transference Nicky had a student who kept getting under her skin. She can't figure out why. After Nicky's yoga class, a student roughly 30 years her senior would frequently ask her basic questions about the class, or for personal advice. Instead of reacting negatively, Nicky took the time to examine herself and understand emotions. When you lash out at someone, you're expressing your pent-up negative emotions. It's your responsibility to understand why you react the way you do. Not Everyone Can Be a Teacher People practice yoga to feel nourished, filled, and connected to their bodies and community. It's not a space to be criticized or dismissed. Yoga teachers wield a lot of power and influence. Therefore, they carry a lot of responsibility. We should focus on quality instead of the number of yoga instructors. Yoga teachers must actively pursue their yogic path to teach a more profound type of practice. Understand Emotions, Be Aware of Transference The topic of transference reminded Tessa of Ram Dass's quote: "I would like my life to be a statement of love and compassion—and where it isn't, that's where my work lies.” Examining ourselves if we committed transference is difficult and scary because it makes us vulnerable. Yoga teachers should be aware when they redirect negative emotions to others. Many tools can help you avoid transference. Peel back the layers of the onion, understand emotions, and scrub yourself! When you're a recipient of transference, remember that it's the other person's issue and not yours. Continue Reflecting on Ourselves It's crucial to continue examining ourselves and help others do the same. Take accountability and invite in that compassion and self-study all at once. There may not be a pot at the end of the rainbow, but it's beautiful to see ourselves evolve through time. Working on ourselves allows us to live an authentic life. In unraveling our embedded thoughts and beliefs, we become fully present.   5 Powerful Quotes from This Episode   [13:35] “...we're all works in progress. It's your job to not be the reactor.”   [24:42] “If people were more conscious and awake about their own personal experience, we wouldn't have as many unfavorable interactions with other people.”   [37:46] “The whole purpose of doing all of this is to unravel all of those embedded thoughts and beliefs and transform them into exactly what is present.”   About Nicky   Nicky Sciortino is an author, illustrator, and yoga instructor. She wrote the book Finding Yourself in the World that follows one puzzle piece's journey to find its unique gifts and talents.   Nicky first tried yoga to prevent injury as she was training for the marathon. She later fell in love with the practice as it complimented every aspect of her life. It helped her prepare mentally during jiu-jitsu competitions and made her know her body better.   She became a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) in 2017. Since then, she has taught yoga in different venues, from studios to military bases! The man yelled something from across the dark street as I was leaving the bar in an older area of downtown Columbus Georgia. As the interim CEO/ consultant for a multi million dollar property company, I had just inspected the business, and met with the bar's owner, and it was later than I had thought evidenced by the almost empty, dark street. As I stepped off the curb toward my parked car a stranger yelled some friendly greeting obviously meant to get my attention from across the street. At the same time coincidentally another man slowly circled just inside my peripheral vision around toward my rear, essentially flanking me quietly. My mind went to all the possibilities and immediately my self-defense instincts kicked in. These guys were planning on confronting me, cutting me off from the safety of the crowded bar and possibly assaulting, robbing or harassing me, and that was not going to happen. I could fight them, and probably survive, after all they had vastly underestimated my background and training. However, tonight that wouldn't be my choice. I turned back on my heels, retracing my steps, and re-entered the bar to wait them out. Like clockwork they came in looking for me, hung around for a few minutes, and after they saw I was settled in for as long as it took, left soon after. Being AWARE had saved me, and evaded a possibly violent encounter, bumps, bruises contusions, and injury, or death at least for someone. Reviewing back to my probable violent encounter what actually happened? After taking visual assessment my heart started pounding, my breath was deep, my vision focused and fight or flight chemicals flowed into my blood stream. In short, I was preparing for battle. This preparation cleared my mind and resulted in a plan of safety to preserve my life. Just as easily, I can look back, and just as easily list the above mental, emotional and body reactions, and label it “anxiety.” Some would. The reality is that people interpret the physiological, and psychological events differently according to their perception, experience and training. Think about it… If you've ever paid to ride a roller-coaster, hang-glided, or watched a thriller movie you probably experienced the same. Fully AWARE that your heart will pound, your sensations will become intensified, and you will love it! Being AWARE that these sensations are natural and work to benefit us is a distinct advantage in life, and Life Defense. Since the days our ancestors fled from sabertooth tigers, killed grizzlies for food, or defended their villages, we have had these same physiological and psychological reactions. The difference is AWARENESS. What if our AWARENESS can be turned to our advantage, and create something different? Consider that the next time you are asked to give a presentation, lead a discussion, go somewhere new and unfamiliar or take on a task where you are in the spotlight. AWARENESS that these responses work for us to make us better, faster, stronger and more focused, allows us to set aside the narrative that stress and conflict is bad and must be avoided. Rather embrace the experience, and enjoy all the added energy, given off naturally, to benefit your life fully and powerfully AWARE! Be AWARE. That first article – Be Aware or Beware – was inspired by a question I was asked while sitting on an interview panel during a Sunday morning church service. I was asked, “What is the number one mistake you see people make with their finances?” Tough question, right? My whole career revolves around talking to people about their money, and I've seen some wild mistakes and missteps along the way, but here I was challenged to narrow my answer down to the most common financial blunder. Hmmm… My answer was simple. It was awareness. I felt like, in aggregate, most people didn't have an awareness of how much they spend. When you boil personal finance down to its basic tenets, it really is just income minus expenses and what to do with the leftovers (hopefully, there are leftovers). Most people have an intimate understanding of how much they make (income), and they take great pride in knowing this figure. But with automatic payments, a handful of credit cards, multiple spenders in the household, etc., there is a major lack of awareness around how much is actually spent monthly and annually. From this day all generations will call me blessed: the Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is his Name. He has mercy on those who fear him in every generation. He has shown the strength of his arm, he has scattered the proud in their conceit. He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty. He has come to the help of his servant Israel for he has remembered his promise of mercy, the promise he made to our fathers, to Abraham and his children for ever.

Inspiring Wellness With Karen Pyke  Are you healthy as an entrepreneur?  We are all busy workers. We all work too hard, but I think work and play are relative to your position and mindset. In this episode, Karen Pyke from Inspire Wellness talks to us about health mindset. Learn more on how to be a healthy entrepreneur at dorksdelivered.com.au How To Tell if You Are Healthy Sometimes, you're running from appointment to appointment, you go to these fast-food restaurants and ultimately that can have a detrimental effect. What are some of the telltale signs that show if you are healthy or not? Karen: I think health is a really hard thing to define. Different people have different interpretations of what health is to them. The general telltale signs are a little bit of tiredness, fatigue, headaches, bloating, aches and pains, and needing to grab a coffee to give you that extra energy boost. They're the things that tell you that the body is not probably functioning the way it needs to function. How To Work Out the Balance Can you have too much of a good thing? What if you're working too hard but you love doing what you're doing? Karen: I guess it's working out what is too much. There are 24 hours in a day. Can somebody work 24 hours a day? Potentially they can, but it's what is going to happen later in life if you keep working at that speed. We need to have a balance within life. Between work, play, and rest, the body can only function a certain amount based on the nutrients that it receives. If you're continually burning all of those nutrients and you don't refuel your body either by taking a rest, by what you eat, or by what you drink, eventually something is going to stop. That's different for different people. That could be 6 weeks for some people, and 6 months for others. We know that there's a certain amount of sleep that the body needs, and it's when we sleep that the body repairs and recovers. That's when it sets you up for the next day. Some people can survive on 6-hour sleep. Some people need 8 hours. Some people probably can survive on 3 or 4 hours at a time, but eventually, something will give. I have a lot of respect for sleep. I think it's the most important thing. If you don't sleep well, your muscles don't recover so if you go to the gym, you're kind of just wasting your time. Why Do Entrepreneurs Need Good Physical and Emotional Health I became single in 2017, and that meant I lost a business partner and obviously my mental health wasn't 100% while I was going through a breakup. I thought I could power through it, so I continued to do whatever I could. I was eating reasonably healthy and going to the gym, but the amount of work that I had to do meant that I wasn't in check with my balance. I went from talking as a reasonably confident young man to developing a stutter; I wasn't able to talk on the phone. I could not get words out. We had to start culling clients so that I didn't have that happening inside me. Be Aware of Your Balance What are some of the ways that you can make sure that you don't find out the way that I found out? How can you make sure that you keep yourself in check beforehand? Karen: I believe that everything in life is individual. There's no one right or wrong for every person. It's really kind of sitting down and looking at your day, your life, how you feel—everything—on that individual basis. 1. Plan Karen: When my clients come in and I feel that they are running a little bit too high, I tell them to stop and have a plan for their day and themselves to know what they're doing. We give a lot of time. As entrepreneurs, we want to put so much time into our business. You can only put that much time into your business if you put into yourself as well, so plan your time around yourself and your nutrition. What am I going to eat today? How am I going to fuel myself? Can I get nutrient-rich food into me or is it going to be the fast food, the empty calories, the kind of things that aren't going to fuel me for success? I truly believe that planning is the key to everything that we do. It just sets you up for success. 2. Assess Karen: Work out what's realistic in your life. Is it just me? Is there anyone else that I need to give time to within my life? Do I have a family? Have I checked in on my friends recently? Have I been out socially? If you're not doing those things and the only thing you are focusing on is your entrepreneurial pursuits, something's going to have to give eventually. You've got to give time back to yourself and nurture yourself. Is it okay to sort of go on stints and not have a balance throughout the whole week? For instance, you got a big project or starting a business can be a huge amount of work. Is it okay to work hard for a month and then play hard for a week or two? Karen: No, I don't think so. I believe that balance should always be there. Obviously, there's always going to be things that come up and impact our day. We planned to work for 5 hours but ended up working 10 hours. That's okay every now and again, but that shouldn't be every single day. Ask yourself what didn't happen that day that created that? It's reflecting on those moments and how you can prevent that from happening. I think every day should be balanced. Check yourself before you wreck yourself. I've gone through phases. I've built up my business, and it was financially stable. I'm in a service-based industry so I'm meant to be talking to people a lot. When I started being unable to talk to people, I was spinning my wheels. I haven't built the business to the success that I wanted it to be, and mentally, that isn't a good spot to be in. Physical Health and Mental Health Your nutrition and lifestyle hopefully support your mental health and your physical health. Your mental health plays a big game, your physical health plays a big game. From an entrepreneur's perspective, how are they tied together? Is there something that you think you need to get yourself mentally well to get physically well? Karen: I think they're both so closely interrelated. It's so hard to define and say if I concentrate on my mental health, my physical health is going to be great or if I just concentrate on my physical health, my mental health is going to be great. It can't be that simple. It's really looking at everything as a whole and thinking about how you can understand when those points are out of balance. Stop and allow yourself to understand. Ask yourself: What are the signs that I'm becoming out of balance? What do I need to do to bring myself back into balance? If I'm really busy at work, the first thing I drop is the gym. If I haven't gone to the gym for a week and a half, I find myself lacking clarity and that affects me mentally because I haven't been doing the physical exertion that I would have otherwise. I don't know any way out of that. I think it's just about being aware of it and bringing yourself back into balance as soon as you have. As you said, it all ties together and it all feeds together. Karen: I have one particular client who's suffering a little bit with their mental health, and they were going to the gym too much to help themselves with their mental health, to give them clarity. But then, they were working really hard as well, and that was impacting their mental health. Something had to give, and I actually told them to have a day off the gym. Sometimes we think that we need to go to the gym to help with our mental health, but sometimes the gym might be impacting our mental health more. With deadlines, I tell people to stop and think what would be the worst-case scenario if they didn't hit the deadline. Is the world going to end tomorrow if you don't put that extra hour in when you're absolutely exhausted and you need to go to bed? What happens if you actually go to bed, you get up in the morning, you're fresh and you find a solution to your problem within 15 minutes, instead of spending extra 2 or 3 hours at night trying to fix it and work it out? Sometimes it's okay to not always push for those deadlines. A fresh night's sleep is huge. My PT said having a rest and a break away from work is great to sharpen your sword. Your mind never stops. When you're sleeping, everything's being put into order. Our mind is always working. "Go to sleep with a question, wake up with an answer." A big problem that I have is I create synthetic timelines and synthetic deadlines. "I have to get it done by this date. Why? Because I said so. I've got other things that I want to work on that trump this project. I just want to see this project finished." But I'm also a stickler for details. I don't want to see it 80% finished; I want to see it 99.99% finished. That is a downfall for me, but again, being aware of it helps you out. Karen: Like with kids, we always tell our kids to actually get up, walk away, have a break, go outside, and play for a while, yet we don't do the same and we think we can't because we've got to get this finished. The truth is we can and if we actually take those breaks, we give our mind a bit of a rest so the thoughts come back. It's like the network, which is being clogged with thoughts, clears up. How Do Entrepreneurs Eat On average, how do you see the diet of entrepreneurs? Are we generally healthy or generally not healthy, or is it widespread and mixed? Karen: Absolutely. I think that a lot of the time, we don't understand the importance of fuel inside us and what that actually does to help fuel everything else within our body. Starting Is the Hardest Bit Karen: A lot of people always get up with good intentions, but then work-life balance doesn't actually hit the way it's supposed to. We then don't always follow through on our good habits. We become too busy, so we grab those fast foods or pull into service stations on our way running between clients. We don't actually drink enough water. I think everybody eats the best way they feel they're eating for themselves at the time, but it's not necessarily the right food to fuel them and help them with the energy they need to get through the day. Fast food is not only not healthy but also pretty expensive. I lost 38 kilos, but what I found was not having some of the temptations there really helps out. I saw something the other day. What they did is they put the guitar right next to the lounge and they put the TV remote in a drawer in a bedroom. When they get home from work, they don't sit down and watch TV because now it's too inconvenient to grab that remote and have that bad habit. This then changes that habit into a good habit, and then they started playing the guitar. Starting is the hardest bit. You need to remove some of the ease to get the bad things, create friction there and make it easier to get some of the good things and produce good habits. Follow Through on Good Habits What is normally the timeline that you'd say to get people conditioned to be in a good balance? Karen: I really do work on individualised nutrition. I encourage people to eat real foods again, not McDonald's or KFC, the real whole foods that you can buy from the outside of the supermarket, not the inside aisles, but the garden market, the butchers. Once I get people eating the right foods for them to fuel them, the change is pretty instantaneous. People can recognise within a couple of weeks that this is the right food to fuel them. I normally work around a 3-month period to really kind of understand that somebody can eat a certain way and make a habitual change to keep this ongoing. We don't need to be grabbing snacks all the time. We don't need to be using caffeine to pick us up for energy. There are other ways to fuel ourselves. Just Give It a Go, Work With Nutrients I was also dealing with a lot of skin problems like dermatitis, eczema, and psoriasis. I went to a few different places, and they told me to cut out certain foods for about 3 months. The list was as long as your arm. Surprisingly, all the whole foods, all the good foods that don't have preservatives in them, weren't on the list. I decided to cut out everything on the list at once and eat just the healthy things that were nutrition-dense but calorie-poor. The advantage is I lost about 2 kilos a week. The gym kept most of it off, and that was three and a half years ago. I realised I am thinking clearer, performing better, and sleeping less but not because I didn't have the opportunity to sleep but because my body was just waking up. I'd go to bed at 11 PM and then I'd wake up at 3:30 AM, and my mind would be racing with thoughts and energy. I also started doing polyphasic sleeping—sleep for 30 to 40 minutes in the afternoon—and I don't drink caffeine. It showed me the importance of food, and that changed my relationship with food completely. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2P8Av1hRqjU Do I still like eating pizza? Absolutely, but I'm aware of what is good and bad food to have on a pizza. I was on a quite heavy meat diet, and I cut out all meat because they were on the list. I went raw vegan for three or four months, and it was amazing. I was still building muscle and checking with body composition scans. I told a few friends that I thought I found the elixir of life, and they said they could never quit meat. Karen: The way I look at it is it was the nutrients that you found. I never look at calories in food. I couldn't tell you what calories are in a particular food. I never work with calories. I only work with nutrients. It's the nutrients that your body needs to allow you to sleep, have clarity, function, and allow metabolism to work again. Once you've got all those nutrients right and if it's the excess weight that your body wants to release, it will release it. If it's dermatitis that you want to get rid of, you've given your body the right fuel through those nutrients to get those metabolic pathways working to help with those skin issues. By cutting out all of what I call non-food—the foods that have no nutrients in them—you started to put nutrients back into your body and that's what your body needed for fuel. I went to lose the eczema. Before that, my hands would open up in the middle of the night and start bleeding all over the bedsheets. It was absolutely terrible, so it is a huge transformation. As I said, it really lets you sort of respect the position that you're in. My wife's father was diagnosed with cholesterol and high blood pressure about six years ago. He was told he needs to be on these tablets and do this. And he decided to just try being healthy: eat healthily, go to the gym, and have balance. He's running a business with 50 employees, so he definitely understands the stresses of running a business. When he lost the weight, he's never felt better in his life. All the health problems that he had were all gone. Everything is perfect now. It's just about finding that balance. Pressure, Stress, Alcohol, and Relaxation It's important to know how to deal with pressure and stress. When it comes down to relaxation, pressure, and stress, where does alcohol sit in the mix? Karen: It's interesting the way alcohol is dealt with on a daily basis. When we look at the Australian dietary guidelines, they used to have a certain level that we can actually have alcohol. Recently, they've taken that out. There is no prescribed level of alcohol in the Australian dietary guidelines. The way I look at alcohol is, as with everything else, we should be able to enjoy things if we want to. We shouldn't rely on them to provide us with relaxation. We shouldn't be using them to help us calm down if we're stressed, and I think that's then where alcohol probably gets abused a little bit. It's like, "I've had a really stressful day. What am I going to do? I'm going to sit down, have a beer or a glass of wine." That's when I think it's taken out of context. If you're having a nice meal and you're sitting with friends and everyone wants to enjoy a nice glass of wine, that's great. But it shouldn't be used to fix a dysfunction within the body or for stress relief. Sometimes, we use alcohol to celebrate and socialise, but it can be the demise if you're using it to paralyse any of the symptoms of stress. I'm guilty of that. I know that I've been in a spot where my mind is going at a million miles an hour and you have a quick whiskey and then all of a sudden you kind of just focus more, but it's not for the right reasons. We shouldn't be doing that. Karen: Absolutely. It's like having a whiskey to fall asleep. My question is why can't you sleep. Let's work out why we're not sleeping first and let's fix that. If you want a whiskey, you have a whiskey because you're enjoying a whiskey, not to get you to sleep. And not enjoying a whiskey every night unless that's your job. Metabolic Health and How To Inspire Wellness You've been running Inspire Wellness for a little bit of time now. What are the reasons that people would want to come to you? How can you help them out? Karen: What I work on at Inspire Wellness is metabolic health. Metabolism is responsible pretty much for everything we do. It's responsible for movement, heat production, stress, weight gain, weight loss. There are thousands of chemical reactions happening in our bodies every single day. Our lifestyle, what we've eaten in the past, the toxins we're exposed to basically takes it all out of balance. What I do is pull that back into balance. We do a body reset. We actually look at individualised nutrition for everybody because everybody walking through the door has different requirements for the way they eat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1H7LUmulJM At the moment, there's a lot of information out there on the Paleo diet, some vegan diets, the Mediterranean diet. Yes, they'll work for some people, but they won't work for everybody because it's not what that person needs. The people that I work with are the people who recognise that there is a dysfunction happening within their body, within themselves. Whether they want to lose weight, they're experiencing headaches, or they're on medications that they don't want to be on anymore and they want to take control back of their life, we help them with food. Food and fluids are the only things you can put inside you that will actually get everything functioning again. There's not a lot of exercises that you can put inside you to do that; exercise has other benefits. It's really looking at anything out of balance, like after we eat, do we get bloated after we eat? Do we have to sit and have a rest after we've eaten because we have no energy? That's a dysfunction within the body. That's why we look at them individually. We find out the right foods for them, and then we teach them how to eat them to then live their life. We only have a certain amount of time within our lives that we work. At the end of that time, we want to enjoy the rest of our life. We want to be able to travel. We want to be able to spend time with our grandkids. We want to be able to walk along the beach. If you don't look after yourself through your working life, when you get to the end, there isn't any time because you're out of balance, you've got dysfunction, you've got some lifestyle disease. We're in too much pain that we don't get to enjoy it. I want everyone to enjoy the rest of their lives. You are exactly right. We're working for most of our lives. "If you put wealth before health, you'll be sure that when you retire, you'll be spending your wealth on your health." I was only talking earlier about my mom and some of the problems that she's running into at the moment. She lives a reasonably healthy lifestyle, probably could have eaten less of some of the deep-fried food. The thing is things can happen to anyone, but putting as many preventative measures at least doesn't accelerate whatever could happen to you. Karen: And I think recognising those symptoms. When people come to me, we go through a certain number of questions, like do you ever experience headaches? They would say they get it most days but that's just normal. I would say that's not normal. I think it's actually allowing yourself to realize that something is not right and something is out of balance. Sort it out now, and feel great again. I want everyone to feel amazing. When I went through that transformation, it was amazing. Beforehand, I was having pizza once or twice a week. I was going out for Korean barbecue once or twice a week. I was eating heaps of food and not necessarily the best types of food. But once you find that balance, it'll change your life. Contact Karen Pyke and feel amazing again! We take our car to the mechanic every six months to get a service and a check. Check in and see where you're at. It would be worthwhile. If people want to better understand their positioning, to be able to deal with things such as stress or understand more about the health of their body and wellbeing, is there any book or resource out there that you would suggest? Karen: What I would do is I would do a Google search on metabolic health and what it really is and really understand the signs and symptoms of dysfunction within the metabolism. Jump onto Inspire Wellness and learn more about Metabolic Balance® It's about being aware of it. When I was overweight, I thought that the amount of energy that I had is what I was meant to have. I thought that the way that I was waking up every morning—feeling a bit groggy and wanting to click the snooze button—was how it should be. Being aware of it changed my life. I feel like Superman now, and before I felt like a sloth, but I wasn't aware that I was a sloth. I thought this is just how it was. Karen: Before, I was actually a vegetarian for six years. I was eating incredibly well. I gained weight. I couldn't lose it. I was tired. I wasn't sleeping that great, had aches and pains. I was eating a great diet, but it wasn't the right diet for me. So it's not just eating bad foods; it's sometimes eating the wrong foods for you. A lot of my clients that come in would write down what they're eating and it's a great diet; it's just not the right diet for them. That's definitely good advice. I've got friends that have tried doing what I'm doing and on Day 3, they're feeling like they're going to fall apart. What is business freedom to you? What is business freedom to you? Karen: There are probably a couple of ways of looking at it. Business freedom to me is having a business that doesn't feel like work. I work because I love doing what I do. Also, knowing that I can stop when I need to but having something where I'm giving back to people, like resources so people can still go to my website and find out how to stay healthy. It's also having a business where I can spend time with my family, with my friends. Putting those boundaries in place within a business so that I'm not the business all the time. It's the vehicle to support them as opposed to the other way around. Addictive Behaviors Something to Sip On   Have you ever wondered, what is an addictive behavior? Where do addictions come from? Why can't I get over my addiction? How to change an addictive behavior?     Our series on addiction has been life changing   We covered Sex, Relationship, Energy, Healing, Children and next week we will cover food but now I wanted you to have something to sip on     I talk with my friends, children and sister about the weakest link, the weakest link has the ability to make all of life unstable.   I remember a time when we were little and all the neighborhood kids would be playing tug of war, it's a simple but fun game where each team is split into equal parts and the goal is to pull the rope with the other team forward, so they can fall over, if you've done this optimal accomplishment, then you've won!   But, the thing about the weakest person on the team, you can't put them towards the back because the most power needs to be at your foundation.   And just like this game of tug of war, in life we don't need the weakest link at our foundations.  If we have the weakest link pretending to be the strongest link, when we go to rely on this link, everything will just fall apart.    Sometimes, our weakest links look like a phone call with the wrong person, a gossiping conversation, a dinner out with a coworker that might lead to much more than your favorite steak dinner, a smile too long, your favorite dessert laying on the counter, in indulgence that we just can't handle.   Whatever your weakest link is, it's your obligation to your soul, to locate it, be honest with yourself…We must find out our weak links to strengthen them so they become obsolete or our strongest building blocks for authentic change.        How to work on the weakest link?     Keep a Log. Find the Patterns: addictions can be triggered by a feeling, a place, a memory, or even a smell Write a quick accountability lesson to yourself: If you failed, you'll look back on this time as a reflection of hope, trying to reach a place of peace, center and self-control Find the obvious connections. Connect with a supportive network. Be Aware of Your Thoughts and Actions immediately bring yourself to awareness Try to hold yourself accountable without any judgement or anxiety if your fail, for this might bring you back into addictive behaviors,   For more help:   Contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255). 127. 5 Secrets of Building a Personal Brand

Welcome back to another episode with Jason McDonald. In the first episode, we talked about the benefits of publishing a book on Amazon. In today's episode, we'll discuss five secrets of personal branding.    Personal Brands vs Business Brands    A personal brand is built around our name and personality whereas a business brand is built on a new, independent identity, separate from ourselves.    Becoming personalized in our brands and businesses is becoming more and more crucial to success. A study found that 80% of consumers are more likely to purchase a product or service from a brand that provides a personalized experience (Source: Forbes). As we develop a personal brand, we increasingly resonate with our audience.    “I think personal branding is the most underrated skill that people have today,” Jason said. “Everyone needs a personal brand.” He continued, “People do business with people, not with brands per se, and so personal branding is a recognition of the strength of that.”   Elon Musk is one of the best examples of a personal brand. If we asked a group of people who the CEO of Tesla is, the large majority could tell us it's Elon Musk. But if we asked that same group of people who the CEO of Ford is, the large majority wouldn't know. The same applies to Toyota and Honda. Very few people could name their CEOs. This is what personal branding is—putting a face to our businesses.    Tesla doesn't have a public relations person who controls the company's Twitter account. Elon Musk Twitter account is the primary Twitter account. He's the one talking to people and connecting with them. That movement is highly appealing to people.    5 Secrets to Personal Branding   As we create and develop our personal brand, we strengthen our relationships with our customers and have higher success rates. As a consultant in personal branding, Jason gave five secrets to help us build our personal brands.      Become a Helpful Expert     After we determine our personal brand and find what makes us unique, we need to become a helpful expert in that area.    We should figure out what we want to be helpful in and then do it. The first step to building a personal brand is all about providing value and giving back to our customers and inviting people to follow and trust us. Once we've determined how we can be helpful, then we need to become an expert in that area of expertise.    According to Malcolm Gladwell, anyone can become an expert in nearly any field as long as they devote 10,000 hours to studying and practicing the subject or skill (Source: VeryWellMind.com). To become an expert, we simply need to take the time and resources to learn and grow in that one specific thing. We can take what little knowledge we have and start to build our personal brand, building our expertise on the internet even before we actually feel like an expert.   “We live in this era of personal brands,” Jason said. “It's your brand on the internet. Where you position yourself generally is what I call a helpful expert in a certain topic.”    If we go back to the example of Elon Musk, we see that he takes his personal brand and makes himself the expert on it. He's very good at getting his name in the media and connecting his name with being an entrepreneur.    We can't just assume everyone will figure out what our personal brand is on their own. We need to make what we stand for, what values we have, and our personality obvious on our website, social media channels, and other platforms. As we do this, our audience will slowly come to believe we are an expert in our field. As we become an expert and share our knowledge, we gain credibility.    In a way, we make ourselves an expert by projecting our personal brand consistently and constantly. Musk did just that. He shows and tells the media that he is a great entrepreneur until they believe him. It is a self-fulfilling prophecy.      Learn the Self-Fulfilling Prophecy      Jason said he is an expert at making something out of nothing. “How do you know that I'm an expert on SEO? You go to Amazon and you see my book or you Google ‘SEO expert San Francisco' and you find me. It's like a self-fulfilling prophecy,” he explained.    After we've dedicated ourselves to becoming an expert in our niche area, we have to show it to the world. We need to take action ourselves. We need to develop our online presence and show our audience why they should believe we are an expert. If our personal brand includes social media marketing, we should write a book on it, be active on every social media channel, write a blog, and more. Then, when someone searches for our topic, our name will show up. Eventually, we will become the leading expert in that topic according to our consumers.    “What are the signals that people look for that establish you as an expert in [your] area? You've got to create those signals,” Jason said.    What is going to validate the truth of what we say? For many people, this signal can be something as simple as how many followers we have on our social media channels. Jason describes this as an illusion of being successful since it is grounded in something that doesn't necessarily reveal our expertise. Having a million followers doesn't prove we know what we're talking about, but it does show our audience that we offer value that one million people are willing to trust.    One platform Jason uses to fulfill the self-fulfilling prophecy is LinkedIn. On LinkedIn, he has over 500 connections. He also creates videos and posts about SEO, telling the world he is an expert. With enough content and enough followers, people will eventually start to believe it.    “People are going to go to my LinkedIn, and they're going to see I have over 500 connections, and I have a lot of videos, and I have a lot of content. I create the illusion on LinkedIn that I'm really successful,” Jason said. Eventually, with time, the illusion fades until we actually do become successful and an expert.     Find a Movement      Personal branding is often about finding a movement or tectonic shift and taking advantage of it. Success isn't just based on building a great personal brand; it is also about watching the marketplace and our customers.    Going back to Elon Musk, his company isn't just about Tesla or SpaceX. It's also about the electric car movement, green energy, and space exploration movement. Musk became the face of electric cars and space exploration, appealing to a specific market that already existed. Musk didn't create the desire for green energy, he tapped into the movement already there and substantially increased that movement through his influence. He resonated with the culture and things already happening.    Jason once read that marketing doesn't create demand, it moves the demand forward.   Jason writes books to help build his credibility and establish his expertise. He has found that the books that succeed are the ones that resonate with an already-existing audience. We should think about what demand is already out there that we can directly target.     Become a Detective      If we aren't sure how to build our personal brand on certain platforms, we simply need to do the research. We need to become detectives.    One of the newest social media platforms is TikTok. TikTok launched in 2016 and has exploded in popularity with 689 million active monthly users worldwide (Source: DataReportal, 2021). With so many active users, this platform has the potential to give our company access to millions of people.    Many businesses may wonder how they can take advantage of TikTok to help build their personal brand. A great way to discover how we can use new platforms such as TikTok is by looking at what our competitors are doing. Researching our competitors is a great way to determine how we can effectively share our personal brand.    “One of the things I try to teach people in my class is [to] learn to be a good detective or to go look at other brands and see what they're doing. Take a brand and [do a] simple Google search,” Jason said.      Be Aware of the Permanent Record     The internet never forgets. As we develop our personal brand, we need to be aware of everything we put onto the internet. One silly tweet from 10 years ago can still damage our personal brand today.    “The internet is like an elephant, it never forgets. If I could give one [piece of] advice to people, [it is] before you tweet before you create that TikTok before you create that Instagram post, think about the downstream implications that this could have for your whole life. . . . We clearly live in an era in which you're leaving this massive digital footprint, and it can really come back and get you,” Jason said.    Before we post anything online, we need to consider the future implications of that post, especially as we build our personal brand. Not only should we avoid posting negative things, but we should also seek to post positive, impactful things. Just as something bad can come back to bite us, good things can also leave a lasting impact, and come back to benefit us in the future.    Key Takeaways   Thank you so much Jason for sharing your stories and knowledge with us today. Here are some of my key takeaways from this episode:   Building a personal brand is becoming crucial to success. People connect with people. We need to become helpful experts in our specific field.  We should create signals that tell our audience we are an expert.  Personal branding is often about finding a movement or tectonic shift and taking advantage of it. Before we post anything online, think about the effects it could have on our personal brand now and in the future.   Connect with Jason   If you enjoyed this interview and want to learn more about Jason or connect with him, you can find him on his LinkedIn or his website, jasonmcdonald.org. So today is heat awareness day. Soon however, the sun will be shining down and we will spend days either playing or working outside in the heat. Heat exhaustion and dehydration due to heat are some of the leading weather-related killers in the United States and Canada. Extreme heat is defined as at lease 2-3 days of high heat and humidity with temperatures above 90 degrees Fahrenheit or 30 degrees Celsius. In extreme heat, evaporation is slowed, and the body must work extra hard to maintain a normal temperature. This can lead to death by overworking the human body. Remember that extreme heat can occur quickly and without warning and that older adults, children, and those who are ill are at greater risk from the impact extreme heat. So Here are today’s Hot Tips For Building Resiliency and Celebrating Heat Awareness Day: When we are under an EXTREME HEAT WARNING: Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated. Find air conditioning when possible. Know places in your community where you can go to get cool. Keep your home cool by covering the windows and using fans. Avoid strenuous activities. Watch for the signs of heat illness, such as HEAT CRAMPS, HEAT EXHAUSTION and HEAT STROKE   The summer heat is welcomed after a long cold winter, but as the slogan goes, Be Aware and Stay Safe in the Heat. We often have to present to tough audiences. And, more often than not, the purpose of the speech is to persuade. Whether we are trying to sell a product or service, or just a good idea, persuasion is important. In this session, we are going to cover a simple three-step process to help you persuade tough audiences. First, we will talk about human nature and how persuasion works. Then, we will talk about the actual three-step process that works very effectively.Human Incites to Be Aware of Before Trying to Persuade Others. Before we talk about techniques and skills needed to persuade others, let’s start with how human beings are wired. There are a few common traits among all people that are pretty important to remember. Often, when we fail to persuade audiences, it is because we are going against human nature. When I was younger, I lived in Boulder, Colorado for a summer. To stay in shape, I would job up the mountainside. Jogging up a mountain is really challenging. I had to work against gravity. However, what made the process worthwhile is that the way back to my apartment was really easy. What most people do to persuade people is like jogging up the mountain. The process that we will cover later goes with human nature. It is like jogging downhill. That is much easier.People Like Other People Who Agree With Them. They Dislike People Who Disagree With Them. This sounds pretty obvious, but you would be amazed how often people use an argument to try to persuade others. When we start our persuasive message by proving to the audience how correct we are, we can experience unfortunate consequences. You see, when we hear other people talking about how right they are, we automatically assume they are telling us that we are wrong. In the early days of Standard Oil, John D. Rockefeller had great business sense. His partner, Samuel Andrews, knew how to refine crude oil into kerosene. New oil companies popped up every month. Rockefeller knew that all the oil found would need to be refined. Andrews knew how to refine it. Their partnership grew quickly.Eventually, another engineer figured out a better way to refine the crude, though. Andrews felt slighted. He took the change personally. In a heated discussion with Rockefeller, he threatened to leave the company. The next morning, Rockefeller gave him a one-million-dollar check for his 16% of Standard Oil. The new engineer didn’t persuade Andrews. Andrew felt slighted. He left the company in anger and missed out on billions of dollars in the process. For full show notes, visit A Simple 3-Step Process to Help You Persuade the Tough Audiencehttps://www.leadersinstitute.com/a-simple-3-step-process-to-help-you-persuade-the-tough-audience/

Awareness Changes EVERYTHING!Have you ever heard the saying, "You don't know what you don't know"?This is true in our own lives. We don't know what we don't know. Often times we simply know that we want a change, but we lack the awareness to really understand exactly what it is that we want to change. Often times we think we can simply change our actions and gets the change that we are looking for.Simply changing the action is rarely enough to create the change that we want. Increasing awareness also creates the Observer Effect in our lives. In science, this refers to how the act of observing something can change the outcome. Many times in our lives, we don't actually have to actively make changes. Instead, we can increase our awareness, which is often enough to bring about the change that we are hoping for. Awareness Is Hard and Often UncomfortableAwareness seems like it'd be super easy, right?Unfortunately, it's harder than most people realize. It takes effort, willingness to explore and be vulnerable, and willingness to experience some discomfort. It's hard because it challenges our individual identity. It compares who we think we are, who we want to be, and who we really are. Most of us want to skip awareness and dive into the work of changing things. 78: What You Should Know to Reach Your Financial Goals in 2021

Do you have a plan to meet your financial goals for this upcoming year?   We are going to kick off this year talking about what you should know in order to reach your financial goals in 2021. The new year is a time of dreaming and scheming, reflecting, and creating a plan for the upcoming year.    One of the most important items you need to plan for is your financial goals, and often we avoid it because of fear. Financials can seem super scary but we are going to get into the technical side of finance today.    Reaching Your Financial Goals  There are 5 steps you need to take into account for a solid plan.   Be Aware of Your Vision Where do you see your business in 12 - 18 months? Take a few minutes to figure out what it looks like for you. What kind of products, services, or pricing will you offer? Think about who you are going to be serving… will that change? Do you want to niche down? “It is not uncommon to have a brand new completely unrecognizable vision every 2 years.”   Reflect on your Actuals Pull out your spreadsheets and review your actual financials from last year. Look over revenue, profits and what you paid yourself quarter over quarter for the last year or so. The more data you have, the better. The reason we do this is because we are influenced by the people we follow and hang around… sometimes we allow their vision to become ours. I want you to have a firm understanding of your financials so you can analyze and be aware of your starting point.   Define Your Goals What are your financial goals? As you develop your skills and refine your market, you need to know what your goals look like. I believe you need to reverse engineer from your goals to your pricing. It is tempting to shoot for a six figure number, but it may not be realistic. Define your goals based off of your vision and your actuals. I use the good-better-best framework, by Todd Herman, to predict launches, revenue and more. Set a goal that is easy to attain, and then use it to set better and best goals.   Identify Your Gifts My coaching and expertise help women uplevel who they work with, what their outcomes are, and how much income they bring in. This is about identifying your gifts. What is it that comes easiest to you? When you monetize the skills that come easiest to you, you are going to make money in the easiest ways.    “Natural skills monetize the easiest because it’s what you have the most confidence in.”   Make a Plan  Make a plan and measure it to make sure you are on track.  These 5 steps will allow you to know if you are able to reach your financial goals.   “It takes as much energy to wish as it does to plan.” -Eleanor Roosevelt   I didn’t take the time to go through these steps during my first 3 years of business. I am 100% certain that the work I’ve done towards financial planning in the last 2 years of business have brought more than 7 figures in revenue over the past 2 years into this business. The first 3 years, I was doing it wrong! I was taking a lot of time to dream and wish but wasn’t matching that by putting it into a plan of action.    If you are listening and are not taking action on these items, you are putting yourself at risk. If you want accountability in creating a plan that works for you, we have a brand new masterclass coming up on January 20th.    This is an interactive workshop. I have seen over 120 women come through my program and create financial freedom by leveraging the skills that come most natural to them. I want to help you create a plan that is feasible. This masterclass is tailored to operators at all levels of business.   Sign up here! Weekly Ops Activity Share the vision you have for your business in 2021.
