Garth Heckman The David Alliance TDAgiantSlayer@Gmail.com Five ways to tame a lion… you heard that right. Five ways to tame a lion… yep, I have been lion taming for quite sometime now and I am going to give you some insight over the next 7 minutes! *When you wake up in the morning you are probably not thinking through the cautionary steps of dealing with 10,000 volts of electricity - being splattered with infectious blood - coming in contact with a huge anaconda - Deactivating a bomb - or worse yet, dealing with harboring bitterness. All of those things can become dangerously habitual. * Gunther Gabel Williams - BE THERE. - YOU MEAN DON'T SHOW UP LATE FOR WORK??? DONT SKIP WORK? After 10,000 performances you can tend to not be there in the cage with wild animals. 1 PETER 5:7Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you. 8Be sober-minded and alert. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.… When does a lion prowl looking for those whom he may devour? It's typically on Tuesday mornings, the reason is due to the weather patterns in the Svengali desert plains… you see the wind comes up form the south On Sunday and by Monday afternoon leading into the next day the lion… ARE YOU BELIEVING A WORD I SAY? Hey dumb dumb…lions are seeking whom they may devour EVERY DAY 24/7! Every day the enemy prowls like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. IT IS YOUR JOB TO BE THERE! BE AWARE! EVERY DAY… EVERY DAY EVERY DAY Key Verses: • Matthew 13:22 (BSB): "The seed sown among the thorns is the one who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful." Here, μέριμνα is depicted as a force that can stifle spiritual growth. • Luke 21:34 (BSB): "But watch yourselves, or your hearts will be weighed down by dissipation, drunkenness, and the worries of life, and that day will spring upon you suddenly like a trap." This verse warns against being overwhelmed by life's anxieties, which can distract from spiritual vigilance. • 1 Peter 5:7 (BSB): "Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you." This passage encourages believers to entrust their worries to God, emphasizing His care and provision. THERE ARE ACTION STEPS IN THE VERSES… -1 BE WATCHFUL for the little things - seeds - 2 Watch yourself. Its your responsibility to know what triggers you and to look for it. -3 DO NOT BE OVERWHELMED KNOW THAT THEY ARE COMING. - 4 AND CAST YOUR WORRIES ON GOD - - 5 YOU GIVE THEM TO GOD BECAUSE YOU KNOW AND CAN TRUST THAT HE CARES FOR YOU. He wants to take your worries, troubles and anxieties. • Theological Implications: The concept of μέριμνα underscores the biblical teaching that excessive worry can detract from faith and reliance on God. Believers are encouraged to seek first the kingdom of God and trust in His provision, rather than being consumed by temporal concerns. • Practical Application: Christians are called to live with a focus on eternal values, casting their cares upon God and finding peace in His sovereignty. This involves a conscious effort to prioritize spiritual growth over worldly anxieties.

In today's episode, Sara Burks, Director of Education at The Boutique Hub, breaks down one of the most important concepts every boutique owner must understand: Wholesale buying isn't shopping — it's investing. Buying inventory is about making smart, intentional decisions to meet your customers' needs and create profit, not just picking what you personally like. Sara walks through six essential tips to help you buy wholesale with confidence and strategy. Key Takeaways: Wholesale Buying = Investing: It's not about filling your cart with cute things — it's about solving your customers' problems and maximizing your return on investment. Tip 1: Know Your Customer You're not buying for yourself — you're investing for them. Conduct customer interviews to find out their true needs, fit preferences, colors they love, and the problems they need solved. Tip 2: Understand Your Buying Options Explore both online marketplaces (like Hubventory, Faire, FashionGo, LA Showroom) and in-person markets (Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta, LA, Las Vegas, New York). In-person shopping sparks creativity and allows you to touch, feel, and truly experience products. Tip 3: Learn Vendor Sizing Vendor sizing can vary dramatically. Knowing how different vendors size their items ensures a better experience for your customers and fewer returns. Tip 4: Understand Prepacks Most wholesalers sell items in prepacks (e.g., 2 smalls, 2 mediums, 2 larges). Choose vendors whose prepack options align with the sizes your customers actually need. Tip 5: Be Aware of Minimums Every vendor has minimum order requirements — in dollars or quantity. Be smart: don't bust your budget for a single sweater you love if it doesn't make sense for your store overall. Tip 6: Price With Profit in Mind Always decide what your customer would pay before you look at the wholesale price. Avoid limiting your potential profit by focusing too soon on wholesale costs. Biggest Tip: Don't trap yourself in a pricing bubble. Think like an investor first: What will your customer happily pay, and does the wholesale cost give you the profit margin you need? Listen to today's podcast... I have been taking karate for quite a few years now. I'm a second-degree black belt, so not quite a beginner. It takes lots of hard practice to get this far…yet I am pretty sure that I would still have a great deal of trouble using it against an attacker, especially one with any size behind them. Early in my university years and again when I was working within a college, I took a couple of basic self-defence courses. They did two things. They enhanced my awareness of the dangers and gave me ideas for options that I could use. They were definitely worthwhile. Fear is powerful. And so it should be. Fear keeps us on our toes. It warns us to not be in dangerous situations. Even the best karate move is not to be there when the attack comes in. Take One Action Today To Build Your #Resiliency! Tips For Building Resiliency and Celebrating Personal Self-Defense Month Consider your answers to these questions. Do you know what to do if someone grabs you? If not, you may need to take a course on basic self-defence strategies Are you aware of your surroundings? Don't become complacent, even in familiar situations. Are you confident in yourself and do you carry yourself in a confident way? Learn how to walk with confidence. This can be the difference of a potential attacker thinking that you are an easy target and them moving on to the next person. Take your personal safety seriously. Be prepared. Be Aware. Delhi, India Part 2 In this episode, your FAQ is: Safety in India for solo travelers Today's Destination is: Delhi, India. Part 2 Today's Misstep- Cellphone issues that were my fault and more Travel Advice: Safety tips for travel in Delhi. FAQ: Let's talk about safety in India. My friend Kathryn is going to Delhi and is worried about being a solo woman. Can I talk to her about what she can expect? The short answer is that Kathryn is already back home, and she had a great trip, but she was nervous and needed confirmation that all would be well. Today's destination: Delhi, India Part 2 One of the best parts of India…and Aero City Let's discuss a region of Delhi called Aero City. It's really close, just minutes from the airport. Indira Gandhi International Airport, that is. It's well connected to the rest of the city through the Airport Metro Line. And you can get to places in the center of Delhi, like Connaught Place, in about 25 minutes. Aerocity is a top priority for safety and security for female travelers, with state-of-the-art cameras, staff, and surveillance. The hotels and surrounding public spaces are really nice. Aero City was full of what's new about India. There are hotels, shopping centers, and restaurants. I felt Safe being here. I took the AirPort Express Metro to Aero City and walked for about 6 minutes in the 105-degree heat. Drenched in sweat, the pool was on my mind when I arrived! It made the walk bearable! There were girls and sisters in the pool, my new friends, ages 8 and 11. They were in the room next to me and on School holidays in Dehli—a break for the families and fun for me. Today's Misstep: Cellphone issues: Here is when I discovered my cellphone issues with Airalo and why my WhatsApp was not working! India is not in the Asia plan! That was my failure! I did not have internet service when out of Wi-Fi coverage in India. Something with the eSIM, Airalo plan, which was not covered under “All Asia”. I need to tell them to label that better. If you want to sign up for the plan I have used worldwide, get $3.0ff with the code MARY2856. “A Gentle Nudge From God & Joy To The World” by Mary Lindow I highly encourage you to listen to this podcast! There are very special "musical moments" that took place in this story about God's Divine Appointment! My next two podcasts are going to be two wonderful Christmas season stories that tell you about how God will lead your steps and sometimes, into places that are not always convenient or comfortable! There may be even good hearted individuals telling you that where you're going is not safe, but God instructs you to still go because there's a miracle or a need to be met, that must take place. Today's Podcast Is Going To Be Telling A Story That Just Happened To Me This Past Week. Isaiah 30:21 says, “And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.” I Had Stretched Out Getting My Hair Styled, and all the things that “women do before the holidays” and was up to that crucial, “I'd waited too long” deadline. I had an appointment scheduled far out and suddenly the day arrived! It's about a 35 to 40 minute drive to where I go due to traffic. So it's a great time to worship the Lord and ponder life as I make my way to the hairstylist. As I was driving, I was talking to the Lord about so many things and about the condition of the heart of the body of Christ and all of the painful exposures and sad things taking place, as well as the hard working, diligent, good people in the kingdom of God who are rarely seen, and who are rarely given much validation for their service, at least here on earth. It was as if the Lord was saying to me, “I see it all, just continue to do what I tell YOU to do, and focus on what's right in front of you.” With that I took it to heart and I arrived at my hair appointment. The young woman that does my hair comes from a Jewish background, but never was active and also had a father who was a very non-practicing Christian, but had instilled some sort of faith in her. Every time I go to her, we share a little bit more. She opens her heart to me now. We talk about her children, and this day was another one of those kinds of days. She is what I call the kind of person you have to gently lead like a sheep to Christ. You can't preach at them you can't try to force any kind of message, you just talk about life and about the need for help from God. You laugh with them and love them. By the time I left her, which was about an hour and 40 minutes later there was a gentle peace saturating the room, and several of the other ladies had been listening in on our conversation about the need for peace, kindness, and integrity in the world. My Stylist Even Told Me She Had Prayed Recently and asked God to help her be a better mother. Now this is a huge win to hear her say something like this, but she wanted me to know. I gave her a big hug and a little Christmas present and told her she was a wonderful mother and thanked her for her gracious salon service and told her how gifted she was. She teared up and said, “Those are such nice words. They just went right inside of my heart!” And of course, again, I didn't preach at her, I simply smiled at her and I said, “Well, every single one of them are true.” She Didn't Grow Up With Much Validation , and she didn't grow up with much warmth, so these words must've felt like warm honey poured over a very busy, active Soul who is constantly taking care of other people's needs every single day with her hair Styling profession. It Was An Absolutely Glorious Afternoon In Colorado! We have these warm days that come in during winter! The sun was bright, the sky was gorgeous and clear blue and the temperature was 65°F! On my way home nearby the salon, there is a boutique type style coffee shop that is a rare treat to go to. I had saved a few dollars to go and get a cup of “Christmasy coffee”, because it's handcrafted and not something that I do on a regular basis. But today I delighted in it and was going to do a little bit of personal restoration, because it has been a very busy season of intense counseling and caring for other people. I had also recently had a parent pass away after a difficult battle with cancer and had gone through some uncomfortable family dynamics with his passing. My Heart Was Still Tender, And I Needed To Process A Bit. I went in and got my coffee and talked a little bit about “coffee things” with the owner and they directed me to a most glorious Guatemalan coffee that was just spectacular and they prepared my coffee for me kindly! I went outside and sat on their patio and looked at the sky, the trees and the mountains as I sipped joyfully on a glorious perfect brew! I was just relaxing and enjoying the moment and so grateful for God making coffee beans! I contemplated having another cup of coffee but at $5.60 a cup. (Yikes!) I figured it would be better to go home and brew a few entire pots from beans that I already had! As I Was Leaving, I Got Ready To Get Into My Car, I had parked right in front of a place that we also used to go, to get organic crafted homemade bread and rolls for holidays. It's called the Great Harvest Bread Company. (Now understand the word “great harvest” is poignant at this point!) When Steve And I Began Full-Time Ministry and began pastoring, our key statement, (we had it painted on the wall in the back of our sanctuary), was “Laborers in The Final Harvest.” This bread company is a Colorado owned Bakery with franchises. As I looked at it, I realize it had been remodeled and everything was extremely decorated and Christmasy and of course, just fun to look at! I Turned To Get Into My Car Again And Gently, Ever So Gently, I Was Nudged By The Holy Spirit To Go Inside. I really didn't want to go into a bakery because we had just had Thanksgiving and we were kind of “fooded out”. But they do have excellent bread and I thought maybe I would get a little something to bring home for Steve my husband. I Still Didn't Really Want To Go In. I was kind of looking forward to getting home and traffic was getting hectic and thick at that time. Yet the Holy Spirit persisted that I go in. It wasn't urgent, but it was one of those moments where you know there's a purpose that God wants fulfilled, and my steps were being directed by him! Remember that verse I mentioned previously? It said, “whether you turn to the left or to the right there is a voice behind you saying this is the way walk in it.” This definitely was the Holy Spirit nudging me forward. As I Opened The Door, which had bells on it that jingled as I walked in, I stepped into a room that was absolutely lovely and beautifully prepared for the holiday season. There were nativity sets on display everywhere and handcrafted sale and gift items. Everything was well presented, and a few Hanukkah candelabra were stuck in different places with the words “Jesus is Yeshua” with signs underneath them. I smiled inside and thought “this is pretty cool. I don't remember this place being very spiritual beforehand when we used to visit!” Over The Sound System Music Was Playing. The Song “Worthy Is The Lamb! Worthy Is The Lamb! You Are Holy!” I just stood there and felt the tears begin to well up and felt gratitude to the Lord for being in a place that didn't just serve up great organic bread products, they were serving up the bread of life. In that moment, I realized how tired I really was and depleted somewhat from giving out so much lately. Now, I do love to take care of people and nurture and try to persuade them to Christ, into a better way of living and thinking. Counseling lately has been a steady stream of people who have been abused in churches on every level. Building trust and instructing them about their real identity in Christ is again, as well as unpacking Trauma, can be very delicate work. As I Stood There And Just Marveled At The Song. I remembered that for about a week now every morning when I woke up, I was already singing on the inside of me, a similar message. A song coming up out of my spirit! It was a worship song we used to sing often and it was, “I will glorify the king of Kings, I will glorify the lamb. I will glorify the King of Kings, who is the great I AM!” It was as if the Lord was saying, “Keep your eyes on the lamb, keep your eyes on the one who has paid the full price, and as you glorify him, he will walk in your midst.” I was enjoying his presence tremendously standing there, realizing he also wanted me to be refreshed! So With That, I Went Around The Corner To Begin To Look At The Bakery Goods and to see if I could find some good, dark pumpernickel for Steve. And yes, right there in front of me was 1/2 loaf prepackaged ready to go. I picked it up and went around the corner to go to the register and began to notice a shelf above me about shoulder height, filled with the most unusual and beautiful gold-looking jewelry, weaved into different patterns for earrings and bracelets and necklaces, all extremely well-made and unique. There was a woman about mid 40s tending to the jewelry display and adjusting things and replacing items that needed to be restocked. I said, “Hello! These are beautiful. Are you the distributor? Are you a representative?” She said, “Yes I am. I'm here replenishing. I help this organization.” In That Moment, I Felt The Holy Spirit Come Over Me Again and impressed me with this thought, “This is why you're here!” As she began to share with me about what the organization does, (and I won't go into all of it right now), but basically in Brazil, there is a beautiful strong grass that grows very thin like a gold wire. The people from an indigenous peoples group there are artisans, and they handcraft all kinds of beautiful things and they have developed this jewelry line. She and a team of other people work to help promote their products so that they can feed the people in their village and produce jobs so they can be self-sufficient. This organization that has been formed is Christian and has only been operating maybe 3 to 5 years. They're a very quiet, and they're very small group, but they're passionate and active in taking care of people. Now remember on my way into the hair salon in the car, I was talking to the Lord about the people that do the hard work behind the scenes. The people that are not high profile public ministries, and those that work so hard to care for others, but are often overlooked when it comes to provision or care themselves. So there I was, standing in front of someone when I had just prayed about it on the way in! As she began to tell me the story of these people, she then went over into the conversation about how she also works among the sexually abused because she was abused herself, as was her child from a relative. She has done tremendous personal work in counseling, and so had her son. She said the sadness still remains that these things happen and have happened. She has decided to be an advocate to help people through the shame and often the shunning from people in the church when they share that this has happened to them. I Began To Talk To Her And Tell Her What I Do As A Pastoral Counselor, as well as having been a minister who understands the public forum and having seen behind the scenes many ministries who were involved in things they should not be involved in, but no one ever caught them. I began to talk to her about the goodness of God and how pleased he was with her for by willing to go and take care of the brokenhearted, to bind up their wounds, take care for the poor, to care for the sick, encouraging her that this was a marvelous and beautiful thing she was doing, and that Jesus himself was looking down upon her with great, great joy, because he paid the price for all that happened to her in order to find a way to bring her to a place of peace, and then to use her to help bring others to a place of hope and peace. Now This Was A Very Brilliant Woman, And She Was Very Discerning. She had a Masters degree, and some type of a leadership organizational degree as well. With tears in her eyes, she said, “You know, I know this was one of those moments where God has you meet someone for a reason.” I asked her if I could take her by the hands and pray for her and she said, “Oh please do!” Yes, right there in the middle of the bread store with people coming in and out I gently took her hands into mine and began to pray for her tired and weary soul. The words just flowed as the Lord himself gave me the right things to pray, and words that he heard and honored, not simply just lip service. As I prayed, I was prompted to continue praying that the Lord would help her with the funds needed to continue to promote this micro-type business, and then I was prompted to pray that the Lord would give her a very special indicator of his love and concern for her, by providing for her personally during this season. That by showing her in a very unique way that he was going to bless her for her hard work, often unseen, and often unappreciated. I blessed her. I asked for grace over her as the Holy Spirit began to give me the words that would affirm and validate her. When I finished praying with her and we looked each other in the eyes, still holding hands, her eyes were streaming with tears and a softness had come over her face. She said, “You have no idea what you prayed. I can tell you're prophetic.” Of course, I laughed, because I didn't say one word about that to her. She said, “I do know these things and I can pick up on someone who is a caregiver and a nurturer, but I can also indicate to you I too flow in prophetic gifts and you have no idea how much the Lord just spoke to me and answered things that only he knew I've been asking him about.” And Then She Told Me The Past Five Years Due To Covid And Another Company She Worked For, How The Financial Strain Had Become Unbearable. Yes, she does get paid for working for this organization because they have to have people who do all of the distributing and arranging to get things to the places they need to be for sales, but it is not anything close to what you would consider a secure income. She told me she was trusting God to open a new door to her, and a different group that was going to listen to her about a presentation that night, might possibly bring in the needed finances to continue to help these dear people. Now imagine, this woman has a masters degree in foreign studies and people groups as well as leadership and she's more concerned about providing for them than her own income! We hugged and said if we never meet again, we'll see each other in eternity but today I told her, today we had a moment in eternity because God planned this day. I Told Her, “I Knew That He Sent Me In. I Wasn't Going To Come In Today! I just wasn't going to come into the store and I was prompted twice by the Holy Spirit to come in, because he knew today I was to meet you and you were to meet me, and we were to remind each other of the goodness and the kindness of God. That God sees! That God knows everything! That HE was listening in on our conversation and our prayer and that he was at work sending encouragement, sending Hope, and that we are not alone.” She Suddenly Looked At Her Watch And Squeaked! “I have to go. I'm supposed to be at a meeting in 15 minutes”, grabbed her purse waved to the people behind the counter. They said,“Bless you sister”, and out the door she went. I did pick up a few brochures and I had saved $40 tucked away in my wallet to go buy a few pine bows to use for some decorating in our home for Christmas. Now I Know Everyone Of You Have Had This Happen To You Before! You know, the Lord says, “It's up to you, there's no judgment no guilt, but that $40 could be used for a higher purpose.” There was a beautiful pair of bohemian-style looking, weaved earrings that had caught my eye in this collection that the woman was organizing, and I knew my youngest son‘s wife's birthday was coming this week. She loves organizations like this who help take care of disenfranchised people groups who are poor, and long to work and have purpose because she worked for an NGO in Uganda. I selected those earrings with joy and said to myself, “Who needs pine boughs! This is much more fun and much more meaningful! Thank you, Heavenly Father for the prompting!” I took my pumpernickel bread and the earrings to the register and the lady behind the register was smiling at me. I said, “Are you a believer as well?” She said, “Absolutely!” I asked her if there had been new management and she said, “Oh yes, the new manager bought the business in 2019 right before the Covid bioterror event took place. But she pressed on and we prayed on and on and on, and God has been faithful to bless the business.” I was thrilled to find out that believers had purchased this specific franchise. I made my purchases and as always as offered in this location, they give you a slice of fresh warm, organic, honey- whole wheat bread, slathered in butter to eat on your way home. BLISS! I Gathered My Items, Went Out The Door, and got into my car and just sat there looking in the windows, feeling as if indeed, I had just had Christmas, and there in my hand was another indicator of the goodness of people behind the scenes who run excellent Christian businesses, who leave the door open to the stranger and the unbelievers and invite them into their world of warmth and kindness. You See Jesus Came To Be The Bread Of Life! He was the wheat that was ground and poured out that we might feast upon the redemptive powers and hope of his sacrifice. We in turn become much like the parable of the loaves and fishes. He multiplies what we have in our lives and serves it up to those who have need. There is always ample supply even when we think we are completely empty. He Uses It To Expand His Kingdom! We are to share that bread of life, we are to give a “slice” of what we are no matter where we are of that bread when the Lord is behind us saying, “This is the way, walk in it.” I can only imagine that dear woman going home in her car or to her meeting, resting, letting go of the fear, letting go of the stress and anxiety, knowing the Lord had sent a sister with “the slice of the bread of life” to speak hope over her and to give her what Jesus had already prepared in advance for her, if someone would just go! If someone would just step in and obey in the moment. Tell You The Story, Not In Any Way To Pat Myself On The Back, because honestly, my brain was absolutely exhausted and I had 1000 things in my mind I needed to get done like everyone else with pre-holiday decorating and preparing to travel. In between all of that is working and caring for others and just life in general! I could've simply sat there with my tasty coffee and enjoyed my time and been fine! I Could've Chosen To Not Go Into The Shop and just get into my car and drive home at my planned time so I would miss traffic rush-hour. I would've never known the difference except may be a little bit of sadness in my heart that I pushed away a prompting of the Holy Spirit because I was tired. I Want To Encourage You That The Christmas Season Is A Unique Time When People Are Longing To Feel Safe. Safe and, they want to experience deep joy. They have warm memories inside of them from Christmas events, or they have damaged and frightening memories because of things that have taken place during the holidays. It's in these gentle but poignant moments when the Holy Spirit can bypass our fleshly concepts of fatigue and timing, and direct us into a divine appointment, a divine moment that was planned by the hand of God, so that the Bread of life that came to earth to redeem mankind is served up fresh! As I Drove Home Again, The Tears Were Streaming From My Face, and I worshiped and praised God with a music station that was playing Christmas carols. The song “Joy to the World” began to play. As always, the one line that just pierces my own heart and has since I was a little girl, was, “Let every heart, prepare him room.” When I was a little girl, I used to picture very vividly that in my heart, there was like a storybook picture of a hollowed out tree, and inside there was a little bed and I would picture preparing a room for Jesus. I wanted to have a table with a candle set on it, some homemade cookies, some fruit, a comfortable chair and a warm bed for him to lay his head down to sleep. I was “preparing him, a room!” I realized that in that coffee shop in that hair salon, I had prepared him room, and indeed it was, “Joy to the World! I Encourage You - Everyone Listening, to understand that “heaven and nature sing” when we obey the Spirit promptly and heed that voice behind us directing our steps. You Are The Light Of The World Now! You are the lamp that God uses, and if we put a basket over it, or we decide to cloak it and go about our way, we will miss the opportunities to prepare him room in our hearts, and in the world. Today if you hear his voice, don't harden your heart. Obey him promptly. You Know, The One Thing I Have Found Out About Sacrifice Is That It Hurts A Little Bit. It's inconvenient to give time to people. It's inconvenient to stop and listen. It's inconvenient to get out of your car and go help someone who is fragile walk into a store or walk across the street. It's inconvenient to scale back on your Christmas gifts and giving to yourself in order to help others in peril or to help others in need. To help others share the gospel like this dear lady who was beautifully displaying the handcrafted hard work done by these individuals in order to help to further the gospel. Be Aware! Be listening for “holy moments” during this Christmas “holy days” season. Each Of You Are Ministers of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Each of you are sent out in the world to tell of that wonderful, marvelous news. And often, we're sent out to encourage one another to do good works and to continue in serving, even though others may not see, others may not understand, and others may not validate! Send us a textHey Energizer, question for you. What are you aware of right here and now? I invite you to expand your awareness and note things that you are all aware of.
Some of the pets that I enjoyed the most growing up were the kind that ate other living things. Most of you know that I spent the first 12 years of my life in South Jersey just across from the Delaware and then moved into Pennsylvania on the other side of the Delaware. As a kid, I owned a lot of pets! I had hamsters, hermit crabs, at one time we had five Doberman pinchers, and a whole bunch of cats! If I am honest, my favorite pets were the kind that ate other living things. For example I used to own multiple Black piranhas that I would not only feed feeder goldfish to, but I would catch salamanders to feed to my piranhas. At one time I owned a yellow rat snack I would feed mice! However, I have never seen an anaconda in person. I did come across something that caught my attention with the title: How to be Prepared for an Anaconda Attack. Here is a list of instructions in the event that your path does cross with an anaconda, and it decides wants to eat you for lunch: If you're attacked by an anaconda, do not run; the snake is faster than you are. Lie flat on the ground. Put your arms tight at your sides and your legs tight against one another. The snake will begin to climb over your body. Do not panic. The snake will begin to swallow you from the feet end. Step 6 will take a long time. After a while, slowly and with as little movement as possible, reach down, take your knife, and very gently slide it into the snake's mouth. Then suddenly sever the snake's head. Be sure your knife is sharp. Be sure you have your knife. Some Anacondas can grow up to 30 feet long and weigh over 500 pounds. You will not catch me lying flat on the ground positioning myself to be its lunch! Clearly this list is meant to be funny. Yet, there is a greater serpent who is much more dangerous from which we very much, in a metaphorical sense, chose not to run; instead, we make it easy for him to do the thing he wants, and what he wants is to destroy us! Be Aware of the Devils Schemes When Adam and Eve were in the garden, there was something worse than an angry anaconda talking to them! He is also known as Lucifer, Satan, and the devil. He is described in the following scary ways: he is the Beast (Rev. 14:9-10), his name is Beelzebub (Matt. 12:24), he is described as a Dragon (Rev. 12:9), he is a roaring lion (1 Pet. 5:8), the god of this age (2 Cor. 4:4), the Prince of the power of the air (Eph. 2:1-2), the Ruler of Demons (Luke 11:15), the ruler of this World (John 12:31-32), Serpent of Old (Rev. 12:9). Of all the places in the garden of Eden Adam and Eve could have hung out, they decided to idly stand unprepared before the one tree they were told not to eat from. It was at that one tree that great Serpent waited and schemed his way into their minds, hearts, and lives. It was the institution of marriage and family the Serpent wanted to attack and destroy, and he did it when Adam and Eve were unprepared! Listen, the Serpent of Old still does the same thing today, the only difference is that he has had more practice at scheming since the Garden. This is why Paul addressed how we can walk in a manner worthy of our calling in marriages, in our parenting, with our children, and in our working (see 5:22-6:9). What tree are you idly standing in front of that you should not be? We laugh at the list I read to you about what you should do if attacked by an anaconda, but when it comes to sin and temptation, how many of lay down on the ground instead of running to Him who is the great serpent crusher, namely Jesus. Instead of standing before trees we have no business standing in front of, we ought to be running to another tree, namely the cross of Christ! Why? Because our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places (6:12). So, what are the devils schemes? Well, he has a whole list of names that gives us some clue as to the kind of scheming he is up to. Satan is known as the Accuser (Rev. 12:10), the Adversary (1 Peter 5:8), the Deceiver (Rev. 12:9), the Enemy (Matt. 13:39), the Evil One (John 17:15), the Father of lies (John 8:44), the Lawless One (2 Thess. 2:8-10), Murderer (John 8:44), the Tempter (Matt. 4:3), the Thief who comes ONLY to steal and kill and destroy (John 10:10), and the Wicked One (Eph. 6:16). So what do these titles and names tell us about our great enemy? As the accuser, Satan wants you to be paralyzed by past failures with the kind of shame and guilt that keeps you from running to Jesus in repentance because he wants you to believe that your sins are too great for Gods mercy, love, and grace! As the adversary, the Devil seethes with hatred towards you. He will use all that is at his disposal to destroy you. He wants to separate you from the community of Gods people because he knows that is where you are weakest. As the deceiver, he seeks to harm you with his cheap counterfeits by deceiving and scheming you into believe that the counterfeit will satisfy more than what God has designed for your good. He does this with sexuality, politics, and the good things that he can get you to treat as ultimate things. Satan is an enemy because he wants to harm you. Satan is the evil one because he is sinister, malicious, diabolic, heinous, crooked, vile, and malevolent... and all of his evil scheming is directed towards you and the success of Gods mission! Satan is not only a liar, but he is also the father of lies; so of course he wants you to turn from any and all truth... especially Gods truth found in His word. Satan is lawless, so he has no moral compass. Satan has been a murder from the beginning, so he is no advocate for life. Satan is a thief who only comes to steal, kill, and destroy. Does it have to be any clearer than that? The first step in standing firm against the schemes of the devil is to know how it is that he intends to scheme. Listen, Satan is the personification of evil, but he hides his true colors behind a veneer of what appears to be innocence. To understand the devils schemes you must be aware that he, disguises himself as an angel of light; and all the demons do the same (2 Cor. 11:14). We will look into this more next week but know that he is not running around in a red suit and a pitchfork. He is scheming behind the rulers, the powers, the world forces of this darkness, and the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places (v. 12). Stand Against the Devils Schemes If you are a Christian, you are at war! You who were once dead in your sins and were by nature a child of wrath (2:1-3) and were under the influence and enslaved to the rulers, the powers, the world forces of this darkness, and the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places (v. 12). However, as powerful as the devil and the demonic world are, Jesus has already defeated them all! Remember what we read in Ephesians 1:19-22; first Pauls prayer: I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the boundless greatness of His power toward us who believe (Eph. 1:1819a). The boundless greatness that is ours who believe, is NOT our power but the power of Almighty God! What happened at the cross and the empty tomb is that Jesus defeated the devil along with the rulers, the powers, the world forces of this darkness, and the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places! Listen to how Paul describes the way the devil and the demonic have been defeated: These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and made Him head over all things to the church... (Eph. 1:1922) All things are in subjection under the feet of Jesus, and it is He who is head over all things. The devil has been defeated and he is not happy about it! Because of Jesus victory through the cross and the His resurrection, your salvation was made possible (1:7-12; 2:4-5)! We must stand against the devils schemes, but we are only able to do so in the strength of the might of King Jesus! We do this only by putting on the full armor of God. Do not miss what is being said in verse 12: Put on the full armor of God. This is not a suggestion, but a command (an imperative)! Now, notice who the armor belongs to. It is not armor we create that we are to put on, but armor that belongs to God! The armor of God is armor He has provided, but you only need to put it on in order to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. Now we are going to take our time working through what each piece of the armor of God is in the weeks to come, but for now, you need to understand what it is. We are not told to put on some of the armor to stand against the devils schemes, but the full armor of God; so what is the full armor of God? The belt of truth: This is the first piece that a soldier would put on around his waist that would hold all the other clothing out of the way so that he could run and fight without any of his clothing under the armor getting in the way. It is not your truth but Gods truth that you are to put on and it is foundational for standing against the devil, but it will do you no good if you do not put it on by obeying the truth of Gods word. The breastplate of righteousness: The breastplate as part of a warriors armor protects the vital organs, so it is no mystery why Paul would characterize the righteousness of Christ as essential to protecting the vital organs of the Christians faith. The breastplate of righteousness is provided by God because what we need and will always need is the righteousness of Christ! The shoes of the gospel of peace: Just as any warrior cannot fight effectively without shoes, so it also true of the Christian. The one who has the righteousness of Christ is one who hungers for the righteousness of Christ. Jesus said in his Sermon on the Mount, Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied. The shoes of the gospel of peace are the gospel of Jesus Christ that gives us shalom, which is the peace of God that prepares us to stand against the devils schemes as we are satisfied in Christ alone. The shield of faith: The shield Paul has in mind here is not the little round shield a soldier might wield on his arm, but the kind designed to shield the whole body from the onslaught of arrows which I believe are the doubts, temptations, impure, and evil thoughts that come out of nowhere. The shield of faith is only as large as your confidence in the Word of God, dependance upon the righteousness of Christ as your righteousness, and your conviction that only Jesus satisfies your soul. The helmet of salvation: The helmet of salvation is the hope of our salvation (1 Thess. 5:8-9); it is the confidence that we belong to Christ and that there is no other who can satisfy and bring life to our whole being, but Christ alone! The helmet of salvation is the security that we have in the assurance of our salvation. The devil is the accuser and although he cannot rob you of your salvation, he can erode your confidence in the truth that the cross of Christ is sufficient for all your sins. The sword of the Spirit: The Sword of the Spirit is our only offensive weapon in all the armor we are to put on. The Sword of the Spirit is the word of God, and like the shield of faith, it is only as effective as our ability to wield it through as we grow in our knowledge of it. Of the word of God, we are told in Hebrews 4:12, For the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, even penetrating as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart (Hebrews 4:12). Sam Storms suggests that there are three primary ways we can use the Sword of the Spirit: We proclaim the Word (as Jesus did; see also Rev. 12). We pray the Word (Eph. 6:18-19; Acts 6:4; John 15:7). And we praise with the Word (i.e., sing the Scriptures).[1] Conclusion So, how can you begin to stand firm against the devils schemes? Well for starters, dont lie down and make it easy for your enemy! Stand firm by deciding to submit to Gods truth instead of what the culture says truth is. Stand firm with a confidence that all the righteousness you will ever need is the righteousness of Christ. Stand firm in the peace that the gospel of Jesus Christ brings. Stand firm in a faith that God is both infinitely good and infinitely greater than all that stands against you. Stand firm in the security that you are now a son/daughter of God because you are alive with Christ. Stand firm with the confidence that the Bible is the Word of God and that it is indeed sharper than any other sword; stand firm by proclaiming the Word of God, praying the Word of God, and by praising with the Word of God. We can stand against the schemes of the devil in the strength of the One who beat the beast, bludgeoned Beelzebub, defanged the dragon, and leveled the roaring lion at the cross! The Christ of the cross is the King of kings who is infinity greater than the god of this age. He preeminently and powerfully prevailed against the prince of the power of the air. He reigns on High and His heel is on the throat of the ruler of demons. One day soon the full weight of Jesus omnipotent heel will be felt upon the skull of the serpent of old, and on that Day his skull will finally and permanently be crushed! Brothers and sisters, we can be strong in our Lord and in the strength of His might because He reigns! We stand in the might of Jesus who said, I am the first and the last, and the living One; and I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of death and of Hades (Rev. 1:17-18). [1] Ibid., p. 305.
“Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow's cause.” - Isaiah 1:17Widows are often unprepared to face a range of difficulties, including grief, social isolation, and, of course, financial challenges. Valerie Hogan joins us today to discuss some ways we can help.Valerie Hogan is an attorney, a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®), a member of Kingdom Advisors, as well as the co-author of Wise Women Managing Money: Expert Advice on Debt, Wealth, Budgeting, and More with Miriam Neff. Helping Widows Build Financial ConfidenceMore than 60% of married women outlive their husbands, and over one million new widows are added in the U.S. every year. Caring for widows is not just a societal need but a biblical mandate found in James 1:27, where God calls us to look after widows in their distress. So, how can we help a widow gain financial confidence?1. Respect the Time to GrieveGrief is deeply personal, and everyone experiences it differently. We should respect each widow's unique process. Some may grieve privately, while others are more open, but either way, it's essential to allow them space. During the grieving period, it's advisable to hit the pause button on major financial decisions. While some decisions must be made immediately, delaying non-urgent matters can prevent unnecessary stress and mistakes.2. Be Aware of Public Financial VulnerabilityWidows, especially those who receive large life insurance payouts, may be targets for fraud or manipulation. Valerie pointed out that the public nature of some financial settlements makes widows particularly vulnerable. Protecting them by creating a safe environment is crucial. This includes ensuring that the widow is surrounded by trustworthy advisors who have her best interest at heart and are okay with hearing the word “no” from her as she processes her financial decisions.3. Understand the Emotional Impact of FinancesWidows often feel financially vulnerable, whether dealing with new-found debt or suddenly managing a large sum of money. The emotional weight of making financial decisions without their spouse can be overwhelming. Offering encouragement and empowering the widow to make decisions at her own pace is critical. Advisors and loved ones should simplify financial conversations, avoiding overly technical terms and ensuring the widow fully understands her options.4. Offer Help, But Respect AutonomyIt's natural for family members or friends to want to step in and help immediately, but it's essential to offer help when the widow is ready to receive it. Giving the widow space to express what kind of assistance she needs, as everyone's journey is different. Rather than rushing into action, it's better to gauge the widow's readiness and provide support based on her preferences.5. Choosing the Right Financial AdvisorA widow should feel seen and heard by her financial advisor. If she worked with an advisor while her spouse was alive, she should assess whether that advisor truly understood her goals and concerns. If a change is needed, it's worth interviewing several advisors, including those with faith-aligned advice, such as Certified Kingdom Advisors (CKAs). Finding the right advisor is crucial for the widow's financial future and well-being.6. Empower Her to Say "No"Widows are often bombarded with advice from well-meaning friends and family and potential financial offers. Helping a widow say "no" is critical. Whether declining to sell her house or refusing a product offer, she should feel comfortable making decisions in her own time without pressure. People with her best interests will respect her choices, even if they don't align with their suggestions.7. Equip Her for Wealth Transfer and Estate PlanningWidows often play a crucial role in wealth transfer, even if they were not previously involved in the family's financial planning. Advisors should ensure that the widow is well-prepared to handle this responsibility. Rather than focusing solely on the next generation, the widow's role in the financial plan should be prioritized, giving her the tools and knowledge to steward the family's wealth.Helping widows gain financial confidence is a deeply rewarding and biblically rooted responsibility. Whether you are a family member, friend, or financial professional, offering support during this challenging season can make a lasting difference. It's about empowering widows to make decisions on their own time and helping them navigate the challenges that come with grief and financial vulnerability. For those looking for trusted financial advisors, consider a Certified Kingdom Advisor (CKA) through FaithFi.com, where you can find faith-aligned professionals who understand the unique needs of widows. If you're a widow, check out Widow Connection to join a supportive network that has helped over 10,000 women move forward with confidence and hope in this next chapter of life. This episode of the Tactical Living Podcast, hosted by Coach Ashlie Walton and Sergeant Clint Walton, brings to light some critical concerns about the upcoming 2024 California elections. After completing election worker training, Ashlie noticed alarming gaps in the system that could affect the fairness and transparency of the election process (Amazon Affiliate Link). From the lack of ID requirements to unclear answers on potential double voting, this episode highlights five key things voters should watch for to ensure that their vote is counted fairly and that the election process remains free from fraud. The Lack of ID Requirements to Vote: In many California counties, voters are not required to show ID, raising concerns about the potential for voter fraud. We'll discuss why this could be an issue and how you can make sure your vote is legitimate. What to Do If ID is Requested: Sometimes, the state may request ID, but the standards are vague—anything with a name can be used. We'll talk about how to handle this situation and ensure your identity is verified properly. Concerns Over Mail-In Ballots: If someone leaves their mail-in ballot at home and votes in person, they could technically submit their mail-in ballot later. We'll dive into why this raises concerns about potential double voting and how you can avoid these situations. Five Things to Watch for at the Polls: Check the Process: Make sure that all voting protocols are being followed, especially with regard to IDs and verifying identities. Be Aware of Multiple Voting Attempts: If you're voting in person, ask how mail-in ballots are handled and what happens if someone votes both ways. Verify Your Registration: Ensure your voter registration information is accurate and up to date to avoid any confusion at the polls. Ask for Clarity: If something doesn't seem right, ask the election workers for clarity and make sure you get clear answers about the voting process. Document Concerns: If you notice anything suspicious, take note and report it to election officials or appropriate watchdog organizations. Ensuring a Fair and Free Election: We'll discuss the importance of transparency and accountability in the voting process and how every voter can do their part to maintain the integrity of the election. Join us as we shed light on the concerns surrounding the 2024 California elections and offer practical tips on how to ensure your vote is counted fairly. Whether you're voting in person or by mail, this episode provides essential insights to help you navigate the election process with confidence. Be Aware of this Deceptive “Reason” for Divorce There's a few reason for divorce the Bible addresses; but only two specifically stated in detail. However, according to 1 Corinthians 7:15, with wisdom and the Holy Spirit's guidance, we can discern some grounds for divorce, even if it's not stated in Scripture. In tonight's episode you will hear some reasons for divorce based on Scripture and a subtle yet growing trend for divorce that is deceptive, and is an UNBIBLICAL reason to get a divorce. At the end of the day: God is the judge of hearts but we should do our best to be led by His word to make our decisions in life, not by this world/ the latest trends. A Norway Trip Report...on today's Milenomics² Podcast 01:00 Scope: 2 weeks in Norway. Oslo, Tromso, Lofoten then back to Oslo for a few days. Wanted to get away from people. Love the coast, and Norway has a LOT of coastline Spent most of our time in the arctic Circle (but not considered the arctic) Map: 10:12 Outbound: Air France. LAX-CDG Plus a 4hr layover. Flight was smooth and the daytime departure was nice Got to experience the new LAX Air France lounge. Open 3 weeks ago. New is always better. 4hrs in CDG was perfect with kids. Got through immigration, train to the 2F terminal, settled into a lounge, everyone showered and then about 45 minutes later we were off to the gate Kids meal was pre-ordered and was great. CDG-OSL very basic, service by Amelia (by Air France) 20:10 Getting to Oslo from the airport Fly to vs Vy. Trains run every 10-20 minutes. Travel time is less than 30 minutes. Flytoget calls itself the 'fastest' airport train. This might be true, but only by a minute or two. Vy is a few minutes slower. Faster than driving even. Flytoget has Kids free vs VY so the prices start to converge when you take this into consideration approx $12 - 24 per person one way. Taxi was about $125. We had 4 of these one ways to do so we needed to get good at them. Vy app is not as good as the Ruter app for buying tickets with US credit cards. Stick to the Ruter app. Ruter and VY app cannot buy flytoget tickets, so Ruter + Flytoget app are the ideal combo. Tickets can also easily be bought at the ticket machines. 25:20 Clarion hotel the hub (a strawberry hotel) Location is great, just off Oslo central station 810(!) rooms. Norway's Largest hotel. Did not feel this big. Booked family size room for 16000 points With a Strata Premier this is 8000 TYP transferred to Choice. Included a pull out sofa which was already set up for us. Includes full buffet breakfast with omelette and crepe station. Nice, newish hotel. Certainly a great way to spend TYP and appreciate they book family rooms. Came back and worked to get connecting rooms. Seemed willing to even give some partial extra credit for the family room vs. 2 regular rooms. 30:58 Oslo: World city, really a great feel to the city, full of energy, parks and fantastic amounts of museums. 20+ Hours of daylight. People outdoors and a city that is alive. Paris and Prague feels. But English is a first or second language in most signs and interaction. Summer in Norway is Wildflower season. The landscaping in the cities is beautiful. Be Aware of your surroundings at night. There were some sketchy areas we stumbled into. Nothing too rough but still, be aware. Food was easy to find and diverse Interesting food halls: Oslo Street Food or Barcode Street Food Most world cuisine was easy to find and well done. Getting around is so easy. There are very few people driving cars. Taxis only really. Malls. So many malls. Beautiful they way they preserved the facade of the building and then you walk in and find a 3 story mall. NeoTokyo Store was stocked with Japanese toys/foods/snacks. Normal Store was a favorite of my two kids for candy/gum/interesting small dollar shopping for them. Gets rural quickly, leave city center and you're in the forest. Everything I saw ahead of visiting said to get out of Oslo -- I really, really enjoyed Oslo, and wish we spent more time there. SO much to explore. 35:24 Food in Norway Solid! Nothing like I was expecting Even in Tromso easy to find good options: Sushi, Thai, Fish & Chips, kid friendly food everywhere. Lofoten: had some meals out, touristy but to be expected. Our budget flex was that we had an airbnb in Tromso/Lofoten with a kitchen. Instead you could opt for prepared foods from the grocery. Reindeer: not bad. My 9 year old ordered it twice. Fruits and veggies are plentiful and easy to find in stores. Strawberry, raspberry, blueberry season. Fantastic berries that were easy to find. Had one meal that was Norwegian. It was 'ok.' Watermelon, passion fruit, grapes, nectarines, mangoes etc. 45:36 Travel to Tromso and Lofoten 1 quick 2hr flight on Norwegian Fine. Much better than southwest. Included 4 checked bags and overhead access. Incoming plane had everyone deplane and then boarded us and took off all in less than 35 minutes Pretty views from the plane on the right side as we approached Tromso. Tromso rental car: Hertz Months out cars were expensive. One way rentals to Lofoten were nearly $2000. Originally booked an Alamo rate about $700 for a week. Anything less than 7 days was over $1200. Was told this would be an automated kiosk. That's likely old info. All rental companies at the airport had full manned areas. Rented a VW ID.4 ev. Got a VW ID.4 $524 for a week. Tolls, ferries and parking meant a $300 pre-authorization. Ended up using about $80 in tolls with 1000 miles driven. Tolls are once per hour, regardless of how many you go through. Most tolls were under $2. Returned it late and nearly empty. I didn't want to bother charging it. Was quoted about $25 plus the cost of electricity if I returned it under “around 70%”. I decided to leave it as empty as possible and skip a charging stop on the return since I'm paying for the convenience. Tours: get your guide+ capital one shopping Commodity tours are a great use of capital one. Click through and don't buy, a few days later a good offer comes to email. Clicked through a common tour operator and didn't end up paying for the tour. Used some chase UR Received a 38.5% cash back offer from Capital One shopping Which….just worked! Took two tours down from 100 or so per person to 63 or so per person 51:29 Tromso: where to stay? The city is….well, a city. Has a few strawberry hotels and a Radisson Blu Parking is about $4/hr in the main tourists area. I don't know if any hotel has parking. You could certainly get around on public transit (hard with kids) even to far flung parts of the area. But being away from the city is quick and easy. 15 minutes puts you in an incredibly rural beautiful environment. If I had it to do over I'd stay on the island of Kvaløya near Esterboten or Sommory. You're close to Tromso but with incredible views: The best grocery store seemed to be the Eurospar on E862 No other store matched it for fresh fruits and veggies. Grocery prices are reasonable, stores are stocked with plenty of great fresh options and even some ethnic staples. Beer and Wine are expensive and wine is only sold at Vinmonopolat stores. 56:52 Low-ish season in Tromso / Lofoten Busy time is apparently northern lights and early spring for winter sports I thought summer in Tromso was fantastic Negatives, whale season is not summer. Did see some porpoise. Tours were 10-25% full. Small enough that you got to know the group. Slow pace in Northern Norway. Very Slow. 9-10 max 1:00:11 Tromso to Lofoten islands. This was the ultimate “what's the best way to get there” test Flying might have worked. Except cars were extremely pricey at Svolvaer, and the closet airport had a tiny runway. There are no direct flights from Tromso to Svolvaer. At some level it meant a full day of travel either by car or air. So we road tripped it. There are high speed Ferries that don't take cars, and drop you in Harstad (still not where we wanted to be). There are options that involve busses. But again with mobility issues (little kids) I wanted a car. Option 1: over land. 6hrs or so. About 500km. no views, and locals say not worth doing. Option 2: two ferries plus about 300km of driving. 8hrs. Option 3: Hurtigruten. Maybe 14 hrs but nearly direct. Not every day. Must prebook. Weird hours. If you're going to book this book it on the Norwegian language site (and maybe with a VPN) for the lowest pricing. Needed to decide which to do, booked nothing ahead of time. Originally decided on the south, direct drive. Was swayed by locals to take the ferries. Big mistake. Senja was a really beautiful place. Pivoted and made it work, thanks to my wife's quick Google searching and reassuring calming down. Just drive straight. Roads are easy and we did the return in just about 6hrs with a short break in the middle. I think a more standard trip is flying to Lofoten from either Oslo, Bergen or Bodo. Adding in Lofoten pushed the complexity up. I'm very glad we went to Lofoten I loved it, impossible to describe. My Final Route looked like this: 1:18:34 Ferries. Interesting for People, Terrible for Cars Cars line up early, fit very few cars. Tour Busses get to cut the line. Arrived about 50 minutes early and was #12 in line. For the second ferry in Gryllfjord I was an hour+ early and #65-70 in line (!) Scan license place and auto charge. People without a car are free EV pays half price Seems like a service to connect islands with last mile service, not as a method of reliable car transport Not worth doing. Long waits, no way to pre-book and no guarantee you can get on these ferries. 1:20:44 Lofoten: Need to get beyond Svolvaer for the best of the islands. Svolvaer is any other fishing village. Past Svolvaer is unlike anywhere I've ever been. Islands as far as the eye can see, some of the best driving I've ever done Harrowing roads in some places where you need to pass a bus or truck and there isn't enough room Peace and quiet. Weather was unusually warm. Anyone can take a good picture in Lofoten. Surprising numbers of beaches and swimmable areas. Tours: Oslo: brunch on the fjord, nice but nothing overly impressive about the brunch. Fram Museum (Fantastic, captivated my two kids for 90+ minutes) Tromso: fjord boat tour, arctic fishing. Incredible with the weather we had. Husky cafe tour and training Floating sauna and swim Lofoten: silent trollfjord tour, beaches Henningsvær, Lofoten: Extremely touristy. 1:33:20 Return to Oslo and Return home. By now we're pros getting to/from Oslo Airport Back to the hotel for connecting rooms....that were not ready for us Let it go a day, fixed it the next day. 3 days in Olso: Shopping, city exploration, parks and playgrounds for the kids. Could have spent more time and seen even more museums. Return home on Air France, overnight in Paris. It all just worked. 1:45:15 Overall impressions Such a laid back country. Almost too laid back (ferry story). Food was not an issue at all. A huge misconception is that the food here is not accessible. Cigarette smoking is everywhere unfortunately. Alcohol laws are not in line with the rest of Europe and can be pricey. Sunday is a big deal. Almost all stores close. Joker groceries are open Sunday. Tourist towns like Tromso are….touristy but people also live there. Fun to visit the malls and see their daily lives. Talking to people led us to some of the best surprises of the trip. Nice to be in a country where we could communicate easily. Midnight sun was more of a feature than a bug. We packed our days often going 8am to 10pm Driving 1000+miles was a mix of very easy and white knuckling. Speed limits make no sense. Lots of Amalfi style 1.5 lane roads in Senja and the Lofoten Islands.

Many of us talk about wanting to be happy. But we're actually looking for joy. A leader's job is not to come up with the best ideas, but to create an environment where people come up with the best ideas. And there's no better way to achieve that than creating joy for your people. Unfortunately, this is the one thing most leaders overlook when trying to build productive teams. In this video, Sabrina talks about joy and how leaders can use it to motivate and energize their people. She also shares why happiness is a critical factor in employee engagement and the telltale signs your people are unhappy. Key Quotes: “The biggest mistake CEOs make with employee wellbeing is they don't know whether their people are actually happy or not.” “A leader's job is not to come up with the best ideas, but to create an environment where people are having their best ideas.” “Joy is something that you can feel with your body. It feels like warmth in your belly and warmth in your heart space.” “Many of us talk about wanting to be happy. We're actually looking for joy.” “When you create more joy, your productivity changes, your creativity changes, and your tolerance for challenging things changes.” “Joy is contagious. When an organization is drilled deep in the joy and the excitement of doing the work, then people also feel really connected to the vision.” "People don't leave their company. Divination is the art of seeking knowledge and wisdom through one's inner knowing or intuition through the use of divination tools like tarot or oracle cards, pendulums, etc. Scrying is a specific divinatory practice that can be practiced with a number of mediums from fire to crystal balls, to clouds, to water, and more — join me to explore the different ways you can practive divination with crystals... Working with crystal scrying tools, objects made from crystal that commonly feature a reflective surface like a Clear Quartz sphere or a Black Obsidian mirror, is a great way to experience the art of gazing into a crystal to receive guidance & wisdom. Scrying divination is a great way to hone your intuition. Developing your intuition helps you fill in the gaps where you don't have all the information or data necessary to make the best possible decision. That doesn't mean you should just follow your intuition without a second thought, but learning to trust your inner guidance, and combining that insight WITH reason and logic is far more practical than following logic alone. Performing the art of scrying divination with crystals takes patience and practice. You might need to form a relationship with your crystal tools before you start to see any meaningful symbols or images. Here are a few of my favorite crystal scrying tools and techniques to help you get started with your scrying divination practice. Crystallomancy - Scrying Divination with Crystal Balls: Crystallomancy, is the art of gazing into a crystal ball to receive guidance and wisdom in the form of images revealed within the sphere. The energy of a sphere represents wholeness and infinite possibility and spheres emit energy in all directions. John Dee's Divination Tools & Obsidian Scrying Mirror at the British Museum Humans have been practicing the art of crystallomancy also known as crystal ball reading, for hundreds – if not thousands of years. One of the most famous crystallomancers was John Dee, advisor to Queen Elizabeth I. Dee practiced his art in the 16th century, but people still know him today for his wise counsel. He relied upon his crystal scrying tools for their ability to reveal hidden truths and offer profound guidance. The British Museum displays Dee's crystal ball and other divination tools, such as his Obsidian scrying mirror. Tips for Selecting Your Crystal Ball: When choosing a crystal ball to work with for scrying, it's important to select one that will allow you to see into the depths of the crystal. Quartz-based minerals (like Clear Quartz, Smoky Quartz, Amethyst, etc.) typically work best for this and are also great amplifiers of energy, but there are many suitable transparent stones available (like some Calcites, Fluorite, etc.). These transparent to translucent stones let you gaze into the crystal to explore the sphere's inner landscape for symbols and images in the stone's fissures, fractures, and inclusions. Opaque stones (like Jaspers), however, typically aren't recommended for scrying as they limit your gaze to the very surface of the stone. One common exception is Black Obsidian, which has such a glassy surface, it allows you to scry using the exterior surface of the stone, rather than the interior of the crystal…(Obsidian will be covered in more detail in the next section as we dive deeper into exploring divination with crystals.) For example, there would be quite a big difference in attempting to scry with an opaque stone like Unakite compared one that is transparent like Ametrine. Ametrine's transparence really lets you view into the crystal, see into the depths of the crystal, whereas the Unakite would really only allow you to view the surface of the stone which would make scrying much more difficult, particularly for a beginner. Be Aware of What You're Purchasing When Looking for a Crystal Ball: It's also important to note here that there are many commercially available “crystal balls” t...

Neuroplasticity refers to the lifelong capacity of the brain to change and rewire itself in response to the stimulation of learning and experience. The wiring together of brain cells makes the new behavior feel routine and easier over time. It requires about 10,000 repetitions — translating to a minimum of three months of practice — to develop a new neural pathway and master a new pattern of behavior. This timeframe can fluctuate as each brain is unique. New science in relation to people being motivated to make changes shows the following data: People who were part of an accountability group ~ coaching ~ or mentorship program had better results and stayed with the changes longer than those who tried on their own. The idea that people have to be motivated to start is completely false.
