Tim “T-Bone” Faust makes a long overdue return to the program to brief us on the series of guerilla town halls on Medicaid he's been doing in Wisconsin. But first, we start with a brief roundup on one of the most important health issues facing the nation today: Soda, and the role it plays in keeping Americans healthy. Tim then takes us through the current administration's assault on Medicaid & Medicare, how the failure to push for healthcare reform in the face of COVID paved the way for hucksters like RFK Jr, and how health justice remains a bedrock principle for a left political program going forward. Tim is happy to book a town hall in YOUR neck of the woods if you reach out to him: https://x.com/crulge And here's a quick flier he put together for Hands Off Medicaid if you want more info: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/jusscubmipf5fsd5hob24/national-flyer.pdf?rlkey=b1327wky6zte79m00g8peo8iq&e=2&st=d3dngrl3&dl=0 On Will's rec, go see “The Encampments” if you have the chance: https://www.watermelonpictures.com/films/the-encampments
Our ongoing interview series with people working to fight the rising tide of fascism continues today as Josh sits down with Tim Faust, a healthcare activist who has been advocating for the preservation and expansion of federal and state healthcare programs in the United States for years. Tim recently began touring the state of Wisconsin, talking with local groups about what they can do to fight to preserve access to Medicaid benefits in their communities. Josh talked with Tim about how and why the federal government has been slashing access to Medicaid, what effects these cuts may have, and what people can do to fight back. This week on Toilet Radio we're joined by Timothy Faust to talk about Phil Tippet's staggering work of artistic genius, MAD GOD. Completed over the course of 30 years, MAD GOD is a stop-motion nightmare that, while not a traditional horror movie, contains some of the most hellish and dread-inducing imagery you'll ever see. This movie answers the millennia-old question: What happens when the Holy Lord promises to fuck your whole shit up? But that's not all - we're talking about rasslin', getting into heavy metal as a kid, donating your kidneys, and Health Justice Now. A request from Tim: Has your life been altered by medical debt? This week Adzes joined us to premiere brand new music from his upcoming record Inver! But that's not all. We're sitting down and talking about one of the most deeply fucked up horror movies I've seen in years, 2017's Aterrados, or Terrified en inglés. Before you go see When Evil Lurks in the theater, watch Argentinian director Demián Rugna's earlier film Aterrados. This one is highly recommended for all fans of Event Horizon, Japanese horror, and Paranormal Activities. It's been a long while since we've had something this nasty on the October Spooktacular. Don't look under the bed. NEXT WEEK: We're watching MAD GOD (2021) with Tim Faust! Like this show? Want more? Get hundreds of hours of exclusive content over at the Toilet ov Hell Patreon. Our guest canceled so Jamie picked up a rando at the DSA convention to fill in. Thanks for being such a good sport, rando! Jamie and the rando — whose name, it turns out, is Andrew Callaway — recap a bit of what went down at the convention, including a "turn-to-industry" proposal and a spicy debate around Bernie 2020. The gang tackles the van attack in Toronto, the "incel rebellion" and why dudes who can't get laid and complain about it online are a kind of hate group. The political economy of angry young misogynists and what to do with them. How to keep those on the fence from turning into Pepes? Jamie's personal story of educating someone. The impact of technology on sex and dating (Sean shows his age). Why everyone will have better sex under socialism. Some social reproduction and historical materialism talk, because why not? Folks, it’s our last show before our vacation - while we will enjoy LA, we will be pining for the sunny shores of Bay View, Michigan, the Christians-only town that is the center of a lawsuit against its policy of only allowing pastor-approved gentiles to buy or inherit houses. What’s worse is that milquetoast conservative hack Andrew Sullivan is writing again, and he’s writing about young people. We will take in his latest terrible take before we get into Trump’s contempt for opioid addicts, the second government shutdown, and the impending military parade coming soon to the streets of Washington DC. In the pop culture corner we will be sharing our favorite clips from the epic interview that Quincy Jones recently gave in which he dissed the Beatles, dished on his relationship with Ivanka Trump, and told us which software executive can really shred. We’re also going to talk about why we liked The Cloverfield Paradox, the universally-panned space thriller and sequel to 2008’s Cloverfield and 2016’s 10 Cloverfield Lane. For story time, we will discuss our continued failure to use Airbnb, the app which has disrupted entire communities and, more importantly, our vacation! We will bring up some of our past experiences with the app and evaluate its efforts to capitalize on our co-habitating with strangers. That's wild stuff, man. Wild. In this episode, we discuss Rich Shapero's "Wild Animus" with guest Tim Faust. Jay is convinced that this is the worst book he's read for this show. That is saying a lot. Steel yourselves. SO MANY CAVEATS: sorry about the audio weirdness, it's still a very listenable show, but there are a lot of obvious growing pains in this episode when it comes to "how to mic three people." next time will be better. also the dog is noisy as hell but nobody ever seems to mind that so whatever.
