Check out the Divine Feminine App!https://thedfapp.com/v2/dashboard#a_aid=ChthoniaThis week we continue the series on Female Christian Mystics with the polymath saint Hildegard of Bingen. Hildegard began having spiritual visions at age 3, and was in a convent by age 8, where she was taught to read and write in Latin. She was an acclaimed mystic, philosopher, botanist, natural healer, and musician. She invented her own language and alphabet called Lingua Ignota. Hildegard's mystical revelations included the idea that nature was not imperfect, but a manifestation of God as Divine Feminine in our world. She was urged to write down her visions, though she also conveyed her experience through music, believing that celestial song existed "before Eden". We look at the traits of this remarkable medieval woman, her fierce independence with respect to Church authorities, and what her experiences say about female mystical experiences. Interview by Kris PetersAndorran metal outfit Persefone are a band unto themselves. With a sound that can be loosely described as progressive rock meets melodic death metal, Persefone have forged their name crafted in their sonic diversity.2024, and in particular the band's new EP Lingua Ignota - set for release on February 2 - ushers in a new era for the band, with vocal duties being assumed by Daniel Rodriguez Flys. His DNA is all over the new EP, which features five songs covering the entire spectrum of Persefone's music, with subtle nods at their future. Drummer Bobby joined HEAVY to talk more about the EP and Persefone's future."Man, I just want to release the new music," he smiled. "We've been working so much into this new release lately that I just want to release it and people to start listening to it. We finished the recording in August, so it's been a while now. And since we are about to go on tour in ten days, I really want people to listen to the new songs before that because we are playing the whole EP live and I want them to at least know the songs a little bit."In the full interview, Bobby talks more about the EP and what they were going for musically, describes the band's sonic structure, introduces their new vocalist and what he brings to the band, runs through each of the five EP tracks individually and explains where they fit in with the recording, how Lingua Ignota differs musically to previous release metanoia, what's next for the band and more.

We're back with two fresh new album breakdowns today, and the star of the show is the Reverend Kristin Michael Hayter, formerly known as Lingua Ignota, whose new album SAVED! is a fascinating and discomforting exploration of the tradition of the Christian hymnal, and a perfect playground for Hayter's continued explorations of the suffering and salvation that faith can bring. We also talk about a brilliant modern R&B masterclass from producer and songwriter Sampha, whose long-awaited follow-up to 2017's brilliant PROCESS is finally here in the form of LAHAI, an unencumbered and vibrant record of pulsing electronic bliss. Let us know what you think of either of these albums in the comments on YouTube! 0:00 Sampha - Lahai 29:55 The Reverend Kristin Michael Hayter - SAVED!
This week we're discussing SAVED! the debut album by Reverend Kristin Michael Hayter, formerly known as Lingua Ignota. We've been fans of Kristin Hayter and Lingua Ignota for years (both Caligula and Sinner Get Ready were Mike's albums of the year at their times of release). But Hayter has moved on to a whole new project and aesthetic, which revolves around old southern gospel. If you're familiar with Hayter's work, you already have an idea how disturbing it is. This ain't an easy listen, so get ready.Closing track: “I WILL BE WITH YOU ALWAYS”Patreonhttps://www.patreon.com/everyalbumeverMerchhttps://pandermonkey.creator-spring.com/Mike's EP:Pander Monkey on Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple,Instagram:Mike @pandermonkeyAlex @everyalbumalexHistory Tom's stuff:New album on BandcampDebut album on Bandcamp, Spotify, AppleSubstackWebsite

Transit. Transition. Transformation. All words that share more than just the starting syllable. All also indicate a progression from one “spot” to another. Rylan Gleave has gone through such a progression which we already spoke about in our review of his debut album In Chemical Transit which took us by surprise because it plays on and with audio from three very different periods of time in Rylan's life. Furthermore it is a literally mesmerizing record as it combines Avantgarde soundscapes with real Classical vocal lines and songs. More than enough reasons to sit down and talk to Rylan. Rylan Gleave might be known to many of you as the live voice of Scottish Black Metal-Avantgardists Ashenspire and yet this record has only very few connections to the band's sound apart from him. His work might be better compared to Lingua Ignota or Diamanda Galas - I dare not name any Classical singer for sheer lack of good modern singers for such arias. The three different recordings of Mozart's “Voi che sapete cosa é amor” from Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro show Rylan's voice at three different points of his transit. When we were talking to him we found out a lot about that transition and the psychological effects connected to it, but of course we also touch on many, many other topics so you can be sure that this is one of the most interesting interviews we have done up to now. Enjoy!
To potvrzuje i Karel Veselý.

The 12th Century polymath abbess Saint Hildegard von Bingen is the subject of our film this week via Margerethe von Trotta's compelling historical drama Vision. We're joined again by special guest Gemma Williams for whom Hildegard von Bingen has been something of an 'autistic special interest' for a while. We consider the themes of feeling othered and outcast, but also the strength those positions give for the forging of an individual path. We're careful to not retrospectively diagnose Hildegard as autistic, but reflect on the importance of identifying historical figures who may have been neurodivergent for the project of neurodiversity in the present day. Hildegard is a quietly revolutionary figure who stands up against the stringent rules of her day, and subsequently becomes a figurehead for the similarly neurodivergent seeking a place in the world. Following this idea, we soon identified another neurodivergent candidate in the film in the form of Hildegard's obsessive follower, Sister Richardis. A shout-out as well to the musicians Lingua Ignota and Hildegard von Blingin' who we think our listeners might enjoy following this discussion! In today's episode you heard Dr Gemma Williams, John-James Laidlow, Ethan Lyon, and Dr David Hartley. Contribute to our discussions or suggest future episodes at cinemautism@gmail.com

The possible future of Babymetal is pondered, Bloodstock tips given, Lingua Ignota's puritan nightmare album Sinner Get Ready tops an eclectic reviews batch with Gost and Lantlôs, and Album Club is Britrock heroes Funeral for a Friend's underrated hardcore turn Conduit.
Remfry's feeling very hoarse after making an extravagant re-entrance back into non-socially distanced gig-going, as he hurtled himself down to his old stomping ground of Bristol to see 80Trees, the mini-indoor festival hastily put together by the 2000Trees and ArcTanGent team. He huskily reports back on the weekend's events and shenanigans whilst trying to sound as little like Kathleen Turner as possible. For those of a more mainstream persuasion, we also celebrate Dave's #1 UK album success and break down a veritable feast of fascinating facts of its success. Releases reviewed this week include Sinner Get Ready by Lingua Ignota (43:34) Draw Down the Moon by Foxing (72:19) Darwin Falls by Fawn Limbs (92:45) and American Noir by Creeper (110:26) This podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Chartable - https://chartable.com/privacy

Oh man, yet another episode I've been pushing off for months! I'll be diving into LINGUA IGNOTA's 2019 masterpiece, “CALIGULA”. This record is just so hard to categorize but I know that it moves me emotionally and is also somewhat terrifying in the process? It's an absolutely beautiful album though in that way, in that it definitely makes you feel *something*, whether that's something is good or bad. Kristin Haytor is a force to be reckoned with for sure. Here is the article I mention in the show: https://www.loudersound.com/amp/features/lingua-ignotas-track-by-track-guide-to-new-album-caligula. I also pulled some information from this interview as well: https://linguaignota.net/blogs/news/posts/blissful-anguish-a-conversation-with-lingua-ignota-heaviest-of-art
Late 19th century Poland was a place of division and turmoil. The population was incredibly diverse, but not in a happy, elementary school math book illustration way. Yiddish, Russian, German, and Polish were all spoken - mostly used to hurl slurs and insults at opposing ethnicities. At any given moment you could look out of your window to see a craven German strong-arming a miserly Jew, while a drunken Russian looked on in disgust, and a dumb Pole tried in vain to tie his shoes. One group's success was perceived to be at the cost of another's. The police force was prejudiced against people they viewed as interlopers. Street signs were growing problematically jumbled. Tensions ran high and violence ran rampant. A breaking point was at hand. Sound familiar? It shouldn't. That was a very long time ago. There's no way you were around to see it. Unless you are a Crow, Lizard Person, or Dracula, of course. In that case – Welcome to the Podcast! Caw! Hissss! or Blah! to you! Don't forget to check out the web page at theirrationallyexuberant.com for past podcasts, pictures, videos, and the transcript of this episode! So, enter L.L. Zamenhof, a sensitive young Jewish lad with a penchant for peace and a yearning for learning. He also had, it is said, a yen for Zen, a lust for language, a dictate to abate hate, and a total boner for unity. He was, by all accounts, a great guy, worthy of respect, so shame on you for assuming that I was going to make some inane joke about LLs Cool J or Bean. Dismayed by his surroundings, he came to attribute the fractiousness of his homeland to what he later called “the heavy sadness of the diversity of languages”. He himself spoke Yiddish, Russian, German, French, Hebrew, Polish, Latin, Greek, Aramaic, Lithuanian, Italian, English, and something called Volapuk, which I assumed was old-timey nerd language along the lines of Klingon, but was actually something of a precursor to what we are discussing today. What are we discussing today? Esperanto. It's in the title. Pay attention, Champ. Zamenhof's solution to the problems he observed was a an easy to learn universal language, with a simple grammar and a vocabulary of root words that would be modified by standardized prefixes and suffixes, free from the irregularities that make a language like English so difficult to master. It was based on a combination of several European languages, as well as Latin, but, to this monolingual English speaker, anyway, sounds a lot like Spanish. He worked on the language for years while attending medical school and then practicing Ophthalmology, and finally introduced it in a book, the Unua Libro, in 1887, under the pseudonym Doktoro Esperanto (meaning Doctor Hopeful). He called the language Lingvo Internacia, but no one liked that, so they called it Esperanto, which has a nice ring to it. Now, constructed languages – languages created for an express purpose by a specific individual or individuals, as opposed to evolving naturally over time - have an estensive history that begins long before Esperanto and continues through modern times. They are rarely successful, as evidenced by the fact that the aforementioned Klingon is the second most successful of all time, behind Esperanto. The first known instance is the Lingua Ignota, created in the year 1200 by Hildegard of Bingen for “mystical purposes”. She didn't bother to teach it to anyone else, presumably because she didn't have any friends. In the 16th century, the alchemists and Kabbalists also constructed mystical languages of sorts. I'm sure they would have gotten on swimmingly with ol' Hilde. Many others came and went after that, typically constructed by idealistic philosophers and would be magicians or wizards or witches or whatever. In 1982, author Suzette Haden Elgin created Ladaan, a feminine-centric language to test the effects of gender normative language. Today, most constructed languages are for artistic purposes. Even as we speak,
Caleb and Cole talk about new music from Devourment, Meth, In Cold Blood, Lingua Ignota, Killswitch Engage, and Russian Circles.
