It doesn't even matter that this is one week after the event. The Press Conference isn't a place to worry so much about the event, it's about still trying to do a podcast in the background without anyone knowing it! Tune in with Riders Lounge Podcast & KING of the WHIP as we hosted the first KOTW Press Conference at World of Yamaha in Johannesburg, South Africa just before the 6th annual King of the Whip took place at Montecasino. We had the locals of Dallan Goldman, Jesse Wright and Dalton Venter joining the international riders of Julien Vanstippen, Tom Parsons, Andreu Lacondeguy, Genki Watanabe, Antonio Navas and Pat Bowden to talk about FMX, KOTW and what gets them pumped to ride!
This episode of Understanding the Science of You explores the importance of understanding differences, fostering empathy, and embracing individuality to promote unity and support. Graham speaks with Tom Parsons, who shares his family's experiences raising Dane, a child with autism, and how it has transformed their perspectives. Key themes include: The challenges of communication and mutual understanding, especially between parents and children with different needs/abilities. The value of suspending judgment and trying to see the world through another's eyes to build compassion. How embracing unique talents and non-conformity can lead to personal and professional success. The role of empathy in strengthening relationships, improving business outcomes, and creating a more inclusive society. The discussion emphasizes the need to move beyond blind certainty and instead celebrate the richness that comes from diverse experiences and perspectives. The podcast aims to inspire listeners to cultivate greater understanding and support for those who may think or live differently. About Tom Parsons When Tom and his wife Alica started a family, they had an ideal in mind. Having their 4th child Dane diagnosed with Autism began a redesign of what ideal looks like. As it turns out, something else was way better. All 4 of their kids became successful artists in diverse ways, from animation to dessert design and websites to cartoon characters. Tom supports their launches by doing marketing consulting but during his off hours, he's an employee of his kids' companies. The next sequel we will be discussing is "Wes Craven's New Nightmare". For it, I chatted with SFX Make-Up Artist Bill Hunt. Bill talked about growing up outside of Nashville and how going to the movies like Jaws and King Kong at a young age with his parents, reading Fangoria Magazine at the newsstand, Howard Berger, Dick Smith's Advice, Jason Goes to Hell, New Zealand, and more. Tom Parsons was a local make-up artist in Nashville who helped out Bill at the age of 13 and was an important part of Bill's journey. I loved Bill's journey and his passion for life. We have been so used to watching the same old riders being shuffled out to a Best Whip competition at X Games since about 2010. It has been so hard for any young guys to get a foot in the door to try prove themselves against so many medal winners and contenders from Jeremy 'Twitch' Stenberg, Ricky Carmichael, Jarryd McNeil, Tom Parsons, Edgar Torronteras, Josh Sheehan, Genki 'Wanky' Watanabe etc. So when this new kid from Belgium got his shot at X Games Japan and snuck his way onto his first podium in 3rd place at his first X Games appearance, we knew there was more to this story than just one event and we'll never see him again. X Games at Axell Hodges' home compound provided the best ramp for JVS to show his skills, with that huge whip over the 120ft ramp where he just obliterated everyone elses whips that came before. Taking the X Games Gold Medal was a no-brainer, and the invitations he received to ride at Red Bull Imagination was all but secured, even for a Monster Energy rider. And we finally caught up with Julien down in South Africa at the unique King of the Whip competition held at Montecasino in Johannesburg where he was crowned King in front of a screaming 5,000 strong crowd to take it out at the 4th ever event. This interview was held a couple of days later when we were trying to recover from the after party and had checked out some of the sights of Africa with a Safari as well. If you're listening to this on Spotify, Google or Apple Podcasts, I'd recommend you jump on over to Recast to watch the full video interview which was put together we heaps more footage from KING of the WHIP and a huge shout out to Grant Lucas for doing it for us! In today's episode I open with a local interest news story from Channel 9 News in Concord, NH. The story is from November of 2021. The subject is of a mother who finds it more and more difficult to find infant formula. I follow that up with a rather angry sound bite from Democrat Representative Rosa DeLauro who has been tasked by the White House to oversee the infant formula crisis. Guess what? She is furious with the FDA. She calls out the timeline, pinpointing the first complaint in September of 2021, followed by an identified whistle-blower in October who wasn't even interviewed until December of 2021. The FDA didn't even get onsite until early 2022 and then shut down the Abbott facility in February. She said the FDA and Abbott are both culpable on dragging their feet and they didn't do anything for months. What do we expect from this Administration. Everything Joe Biden and his Administration touches turns to crap. He is the opposite of King Midas. In fact, Joe Biden is the King Midas of Bizarro World, where everything is the opposite of what we have come to expect – left is right, up is down, good is bad. It stands to reason, our Commander-in-Chief has the Bizarro World Midas Touch. From coming into office and reversing every America-first policy, including energy independence, to leaving our border open, not doing anything about the fentanyl over-dose crisis in the U.S., which is the leading cause of deaths in 18-45 year olds, and flooding the economy with so much money, he has devalued the dollar. Even more, his debacle in the handling of Afghanistan is what led Putin to make his move in Ukraine. And while they claim to want to do all they can to get lower the prices at the pump, all they keep doing is shutting down the fossil fuel industry. In the face of all of this, Thomas Friedman has the audacity to write in the NYTimes, how Joe Biden ran on being the great uniter and seems depressed he hasn't been able to make that happen. Well, Joe, here's an idea, maybe stop calling half of America Ultra-MAGA, racist, sexist, bigoted, homophobic white supremacists. Do you think that might be a start toward unification? On top of that, how about putting American first, instead of doing all you can to destroy our nation? In the midst of this embarrassing president, we learned today, from J. Michael Evans, president of Alibaba Group, they are in the midst of inventing an individual carbon footprint tracker. The chuch of the radical environmentalists wants to track each of us to see just how much carbon we consume and whether or not we are bad for the world. It's something I would expect to read in a dystopian novel, not see applauded. Wrapping up, I mention three people who each deserve a special call-out for their achievements in individual stupidity. First, Whoopi Goldberg doesn't seem to understand the Catholic church. Second, Stacey Abrams acknowledges the state of Georgia is the number one state in which to do business, but she says it is the worst state in the country to live. Finally, little Brian Stelter should henceforth be know as Tom Parsons, a character from George Orwell's, “1984.” Take a moment to rate and review the show and then share the episode on social media. You can find me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, GETTR and TRUTH Social by searching for The Alan Sanders Show.
CEO of the GPA Tom Parsons joins Joe Molloy on the show to explain the organisation's ongoing battle with the GAA on player expenses.
The football league action dominated over the weekend but it was off-pitch that was generating much of the headlines with Tom Parsons saying the GPA were prepared to take further action in the players' stand-off with the GAA over expenses. However, Dick Clerkin, who joined Will Slattery, Sinéad Kissane and Donnchadh Boyle on this week's Throw-In podcast believes that a conversation over player welfare needs to take precedence over expenses first. “What are the GPA looking for in terms of a sustainable model for the intercounty game?” he asked on the show. “Because I don't think anybody could agree that it should be ok that a county team should be asked to train seven days a week around the Championship season and that can be funded carte blanche because that's effectively what Tom Parsons was saying. If it is the case with the county teams now that it's the norm to be asked to train five to six times a week, that's not sustainable, that's not fair and it's not sustainable.” Back to on-pitch matters, Dublin finally got their first league win of the year with a victory over Tyrone in Omagh, albeit against a very poor Tyrone performance and it begs the question will the defending All-Ireland champions even get out of Ulster at this rate? In Tralee on Saturday night, Kerry edged out Mayo with a last-minute free but the panellists were predicting this could be the dress rehearsal for something bigger in Croke Park come the summer. Meanwhile, in Division 2, Cork's footballers are staring relegation in the face after another defeat, this time at the hands of Meath, and the question everybody is asking is, what has happened to Cork football and how can things improve? Every Monday the Throw-In brings you the best insights and analysis from all the weekend GAA action. Listen and follow on Apple, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts from. For more visit the show page at: www.independent.ie/podcasts/the-throw-in/ The Throw-In is in association with Allianz.
