We have all had the misfortune of dealing with a jerk at some point in our lives. Today on the I Know I'm Crazy with Naja Hall podcast, I am chatting with author Jeremy Sherman, Ph.D. about his extensive life's work on adverse personalities. Jeremy Sherman, Ph.D. is a science researcher and writer who has written 1000 blog articles for Psychology Today under the title Ambigamy: Insights for the deeply romantic and deeply skeptical. For a quarter-century he has collaborated closely with Harvard/Berkeley neuroscientist and biological anthropologist Terrence Deacon developing a theory for the origins of life's struggle for existence, in other words explaining trying or effort from its chemical origins. Sherman writes academically but most of his writing is about everyday decision-making. He has just written a book now available as a free podcast called "What's up with a**holes? Jeremy Lent's new book, The Web of Meaning: Integrating Science and Traditional Wisdom to Find Our Place in the Universe offers a coherent worldview of deep interconnectedness by integrating ancient Taoist and Buddhist views of humanness and awakening, with a modern scientific, conceptually-oriented view of human capacity. Jeremy makes the case for reigniting lost ethical values that can shift the disconnection that has led humanity to the brink of ecological and societal destruction. We discuss deep intelligence, wise action, how to expand collective concern to include all humans, our animal and plant brothers and sisters, and our planet. Our practical and philosophical dialogue moved me at the core of my being. May it be an inspiration for shift in all who hear it! The US edition is available mid-July but you can get the UK edition now. Visit the book website. Visit Jeremy's website Jeremy Lent received a BA in English Literature from Cambridge University, an MBA from the University of Chicago, and was a former internet company CEO. His award-winning book, The Patterning Instinct: A Cultural History of Humanity's Search for Meaning, explores the way humans have made meaning from the cosmos from hunter-gatherer times to the present day. He is founder of the nonprofit Liology Institute, dedicated to fostering an integrated worldview that could enable humanity to thrive sustainably on the Earth.

In Episode #82, we met Jeremy Keck as a patient born with L-TGA and DILV treated with Fontan procedure. Now, in this very special episode, we meet Jeremy Keck beyond his heart disease through the eyes of his loving wife Ana Keck. His legacy underscores the importance of seeing our patients as people beyond their illness, in the context of their lives, values, and loved ones. We learn to appreciate the full life one can live with complex adult congenital heart disease but also of the work that remains to be done. This powerful discussion is led by Dr. Evelyn Song (internal medicine resident at Johns Hopkins Hospital), Dr. Pablo Sanchez (cardiology fellow at Stanford University), and Dr. Michael Landzberg (cardiovascular and palliative care faculty and former director of ACHD at Brigham and Women’s Hospital). In Loving Memory of Jeremy Keck Jeremy Keck was a giant within the construction industry and accomplished so much in his 37 years of life. However, his greatest point of pride was his family. He is survived by his wife Ana, two young daughters, Emilee and Kaylee, his parents, Jeff and Terri Keck, brother Kevinn (Deana) Keck, nephews Jeremy and Payne, and nieces Taylore and Payge. Jeremy also had a heart for philanthropy. He was an active supporter of the Heart Center at Phoenix Children's Hospital. In an interview with The Arizona Republic in 2015, Jeremy said he wouldn’t change his experience even if he had the chance. “I have a perspective on life that you can't teach anybody," he said. “You can't even explain it to people. The small things that happen that might not go your way seem pretty minor.” Jeremy had such a positive impact on those around him, inspiring everyone to live life to the fullest. He will be deeply missed. Visit Jeremy's gofundme page for more information. Jeremy Miller discovered entrepreneurship as a vehicle for helping others and building community while also searching for an escape from depression. He was sixteen when he opened his first custom longboard manufacturing business that focused on creating a safe space for young people to talk about life. Although the business closed with a deficit, he was drawn to entrepreneurship because of how positively it impacted his life and how much he was able to impact others. During this time, Jeremy explored and tested the depths of Twitter. In a ten-month period in 2016, Jeremy had organically reached over 100,000,000 impressions. By the age of 18, he took what he learned from his first company and built an advertising agency called Inspired Blue Media with national clients and national press recognition. By 20, Jeremy had helped launch a tech startup and co-founded a 501c3 non-profit. Visit Jeremy at jeremyrossmiller.com and @jjeremymiller on Twitter
