video: https://youtu.be/F_imR-7E9ps Comment on the TWIL Forum (https://thisweekinlinux.com/forum) This week in Linux, was just crazy... I just got back from the Red Hat Summit last night, now I'm making a jam packed episode of TWIL with stuff from the Red Hat Summit like them announcing RHEL 10. While I was out of time, we entered into the Twilight Zone because Microsoft apparently open sourced WSL, kind of. Mozilla announced they are shutting down some services. And the giant guitar company Fender, announced a new music creation tool that, yep, it supports Linux. With the walking through airports, a convention center, and the streets of Boston...my feet hurt but you want TWIL right so I'm powering through to bring you all of this and more on This Week in Linux, the weekly news show that keeps you up to date with what's going on in the Linux and Open Source world. video: https://youtu.be/PtP_jOlAIHE Comment on the TWIL Forum (https://thisweekinlinux.com/forum) This week in Linux, we have a lot of cool stuff to talk about. First, we're going to talk about the future of KDE Plasma. Then we're going to go into the future of OpenSUSE because Leap 16 beta has been released and the final version will be coming out this year. Then we'll also have a new version of Mozilla Firefox. And also we have some interesting news from the Oregon State University because there's some potential risk of closure of their Open Source Lab, which would be a shame. And then we're also going to talk about Redis because they're back in the news this week because they want to redo with Open Source. All of this and more on This Week in Linux, the weekly news show that keeps you up to date with what's going on in the Linux and Open Source world.

Beside the conversation with Stef, all interviews were recorded in English.

Let's rapid fire this intro and you'll see what I mean. Fedora Linux 40 is out, Ubuntu 24.04 LTS is out, Nextcloud has a new release of Nextcloud Hub and the release notes feel like they never end, the Flathub has released a new design refresh making it even better to use Flatpaks, and we recently had an awesome interview on the Destination Linux podcast that I gotta tell you about and all of this in one episode. I mean there's so much just in the Ubuntu topic that I didn't have time to cover the flavours, I'll tell you about those next week. Yea, this is going to be one of those episodes.
In today's episode, hosts Andy Leonard and Frank La Vigne catch up on their recent activities, including Frank's presentations at the Red Hat Summit Connect. They both express their excitement for building a powerful system that allows them to explore AI capabilities locally. While Andy's lab is focused on AI, Frank is delving into the world of Red Hat OpenShift and containers to expand his knowledge. They discuss the importance of hands-on learning and the practicality of setting up a home lab.The conversation takes an interesting turn as they discuss Andy's initial miscalculation with the GPU size and his daughter starting college, leading to budget changes. Frank shares his hardware journey over the past year, including his experience with the Apple Silicon M2 computer and its incredible performance.Tune in to this episode of "Data Driven" to hear more about the Red Hat Summit, the latest developments in AI, and the adventures of building a home lab. In the last part of our Red Hat Summit special we've had a fun time with none other than Máirín Duffy and Matthew Miller. Máirín gave very interesting insights on her long term UX work for various Red Hat and open-source projects such as Fedora and Podman. We also talked about the neverending year of the Linux desktop - from her point of view. Matthew provided insights on his work on the Fedora project - starting with the history we later focussed on current development and what might come in the future.
See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

AI will now add superpowers to every triggering buzzword, hence the title of this week's post. Look past the buzz and you'll find substance somewhere. The spring conference season is kicking into high gear, so it's a time to get serious and extract the signal from the event noise. This week we'll see Microsoft Build, which will no doubt volley shots back from the messaging at Google I/O. Two other big events will take place this week, Red Hat Summit / Ansible Fest in Boston and the annual Dell Technologies World in Las Vegas. theCUBE will be covering both of these shows and we want to take this opportunity to update you on the state of hybrid multi-cloud…what we call supercloud. In this Breaking Analysis we examine some of the key infrastructure players in hybrid multi-cloud with a focus on Red Hat and Dell Technologies, two firms that increasingly are partnering with each other as VMware's future evolves. We'll share recent ETR survey data on the position of several other hybrid / cross-cloud players including Cloudflare, Equinix, HPE, IBM, Oracle, VMware and others. We'll also share what we expect to hear at Red Hat Summit and Dell Technologies World this year. We live in what some call a “distraction economy.” There are countless messages, emails, tickets, bugs to fix, and meetings to attend. For those who have to build software, platforms, and services, as well as those who maintain them and keep them running, it can be difficult to decide what to focus on first. The immense pressure to be productive is challenging to balance with passion projects, personal responsibilities, or just with the need to rest. Our team spoke with tech-minded creators in the productivity space on how to achieve full focus, and how to make time for work, relaxation, and creativity. We would love to see you (virtually) at Red Hat Summit. Register for the virtual experience of Red Hat Summit at red.ht/summit2022.
