Magical Express is the latest thing to be cut by Disney. Starting January 1, 2022, the Magical Express will no longer be available for service to take clients from the airport to the hotel and vice versa. Clients also lose the privilege of having their luggage delivered directly to their resort. The new question will be, how will clients get to and from the airport during their Walt Disney World vacation. The new train system, Uber, taxi, or a new shuttle service? I guess we will have to wait and see. Disney has also decided to no longer have Extra Magic Hours (EMH) in the evening and is limiting the Extra Magic Hours in the morning. It appears that resort guests will be able to get into the parks in the morning during EMH just 30 minutes before the other guests. Another perk of a Walt Disney Vacation that has vanished. The 5th anniversary Festival of the Arts is going on right now at Epcot. There are so many amazing foods around the world that are new to the Festival including Artist Palette Jumbo Chocolate Chip Cookie, a favorite. Of course we are so over-the-moon that Figment is again the mascot of this festival. The kids can enjoy a fun scavenger hunt throughout the World Showcase. Kids look for Figment hiding inside famous works of art at each pavilion. Once they complete the journey, they can return the map to the park’s Disney Traders for an artful surprise Yeah, we talk about 20 fun things to do at Universal Orlando Resorts. Even I, who loves Universal, had a few things on the list that surprised me. Rum tastings, secret waterfalls, a Who Can of food, are just a few of the things that we mentioned, and oh yeah, seeing the Men in Black office. “If you don’t contribute, don’t complain” (Frank Sonnenberg) Saw this quote earlier today on Facebook. It screamed at me. My first thoughts were about elections, when so many people say “You don’t have a right to complain if you don’t vote”. I believe there is truth in that. But it goes so much deeper. Every single day, there are people complaining about things over which they, as individuals, have no control. What they fail to realize, though, is that while they may not be able to have an effect on the issue globally, they can affect it locally. After all, if enough people care enough to take small actions, global shifts can happen. Who CAN make a difference? YOU can.

AMBITION: The Wednesday Word #WednesdayWisdom This week’s word is ambition or ambitious, we’re going to do both. Now I’m going to ask you a series of questions and I want you to put some quality thought into the questions I’m about to ask and why this is important. Who do you know, that is ambitious? Now, who can you think of, whether that’s in your existing life or somebody in the Twitter sphere or the global sphere? Who Can you think of? Who do you know that you would consider to be ambitious? Or to have ambition? Who do you know for you? What does it mean? Like literally what does it mean? To you, ambition, or to be ambitious, what does it mean? What kind of feelings does that word stimulate in you? What does that word mean to you? Because let’s face it, right? For some folks ambition may have some negative connotations. It could be positive, right? Or it could be negative, but what does it mean to you?

In this episode I talk to Rob Day about the traps and pitfalls of founding an agency business. When Laurence and I started our digital agency back in 2004 we didn't have a business plan or exit strategy. We just enjoyed doing the work and wanted to continue doing it and get paid. We grew organically taking people on when we couldn't handle the workload. Over time we got more work and therefore needed more staff which meant finding more work to keep the staff happy (and paid). We then did less of the work we enjoyed (i.e. designing and coding) and doing more of the work we didn't enjoy, and had never been trained to do (i.e. management and sales). Without a clear vision for the business (and for ourselves) we spent more time in the doing and less time in the being. We felt that we needed to become a well respected agency doing innovative work but we didn't know what that meant for us individually and also what it meant for the future. Who wants to think about exit strategy when you're doing work you love? Who CAN think of exit strategy when you're too busy trying to feed the beast? And why even think of an exit? If there's a need to exit why did we start the business in the first place? Colin Hay was the lead singer of Men At Work, who sold an unbelievable 15 million copies worldwide of their debut, Business as Usual, yielding hits like “Down Under” and “Who Can it Be Now.” After three albums, the band called it quits.  Since then, Hay has forged a solo career, showing an ability to write songs with incredible depth. He’s recently issued his 13th solo platter, Fierce Mercy, and it’s a diverse affair, with some songs featuring a heavy Americana feel, while another has a strong Phil Spector influence. We chat about the inspiration for some of the new songs, plus he looks back on that incredible popularity of the early Eighties.
