Plus News Headlines you've missed. This is Rebecca Wanner aka 'BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger' Erhardt with The Bend Radio Show & Podcast, your news outlet for the latest in the Outdoors & Western Lifestyle! Episode 171 Details NEWS POLAR VORTEX FREEZES GATOR IN WATER         In January the Polar Vortex had more than an effect on the people, it also chilled the alligators too. The Gator Country Adventure Park in Beaumont, Texas had their gator's pool ice over. The park's alligator's snout froze protruding above the ice for air. Alligators use a hibernation process, called brumation, to cope with the cold weather.   BURMESE PYTHON EGGS HATCH Field Reporter: Heather Krohe, Little Rack Taxidermy Florida's fight against the invasive species Burmese pythons is not getting any easier.   ARKANSAS COWBOY USES HORSEPOWER TO PULL SNOW STUCK CARS A North Little Rock, Arkansas cowboy, Doc Leavy, during a recent snowstorm used his horse, Champ, to help drivers stuck in the snow. The Cowboy believes his horse is just as strong as a tractor. He has helped dozens of stranded drivers in the past and continues to ride through trails when adverse weather occurs to help others.   DOCTOR DRIVES ATV THROUGH BLIZZARD TO DELIVER BABY During Iowa's recent winter storms in January, Dr. Chase Brown from Shenandoah, Iowa didn't let a snowstorm stop him from delivering a baby. Dr. Chase hopped on his ATV and braved the snowstorm, sub-zero temperatures and snow drifts to get to the hospital where he delivered a healthy baby!   FEATURE PLANNING TIPS TO WALT DISNEY WORLD THEME PARKS Prepare for the adventure of a lifetime at Disney World with these essential tips for success! Who would have thought in this day or age, that expensive family destinations like Walt Disney World or Walt Disney Land, Universal Studios too could quickly undo any joy there was to be had by not planning for the destinations as well. We're not talking about the stress of gathering the family, or the high prices that come with visiting these theme parks. We are talking about the overwhelming feeling of once arriving on property to only then learn, for example Disney has its own nomenclature, its own language.    So much is the overwhelming factor over taking guests to these theme parks, visitors are taking classes on “Walt Disney World” prior to boarding a plane. The complicated system that Disney World functions upon has left many unprepared travelers with the let down feeling and regretting having done the trip, as learning the Disney lingo and landscape can almost feel monumental instead of “Magical”. Today we are tackling tips to survive Disney World located in Orlando, Florida.   WHAT CONSISTS OF WALT DISNEY WORLD First thing to know about Walt Disney World is it is made up of four main parks, but then there are also the Disney Water Parks too. The four Walt Disney World Parks are Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom and Epcot. Disney World is not meant to be seen in ONE day. Instead, it is highly recommended to enjoy it over several days if time and money allows. This means visiting one Disney Park per day and even reserving a day in between for rest around the pool or some down time.   If you have never traveled to Disney World and are going with a group that includes children, we suggest booking through a trusted travel agent and one that offers travel insurance or through Disney's booking agents and inquiring about their travel insurance. Reason being is that depending on your party size, age and the cost; peace of mind knowing that at the last minute your trip might be canceled or cut short, all the money is not lost. If booking thru Disney World or a travel agent, be sure to ask if there are any special offers, for example there are discounts for US military, and often the longer you stay the cheaper the daily passes and/or hotels may become.     HOW TO EFFECTIVELY PLAN FOR DISNEY WORLD How to navigate Walt Disney World, the Magic Kingdom, effectively before your vacation can greatly enhance your experience? Here's how:   Research Parks and Attractions: Get acquainted with the layout of Disney's parks and explore the array of attractions they offer. Explore the different themes and pinpoint the ones that capture your interest the most. Craft a Detailed Schedule: Strategize your itinerary by planning which parks you want to visit each day of your vacation. Consider factors such as park hours, crowd levels, and special events to optimize your time. Secure Advanced Reservations: Don't miss out on popular dining experiences or character meet-and-greets—reserve them well in advance. This ensures you lock in coveted options and avoid disappointment. Take time to understand Disney Genie+ as it is an essential tool. Walt Disney World now operates off the My Disney Experience App. Familiarize Yourself with Park Maps: Study Disney's park maps to pinpoint the locations of attractions, dining spots, restrooms, and first aid stations. This knowledge will streamline your navigation once you're on-site. Leverage the My Disney Experience App: This indispensable tool provides real-time updates on wait times, show schedules, dining reservations, and interactive park maps. Download it to streamline your Disney World adventure. Maximize Lightning Pass Benefits: Understand the Genie+ system and make your selections early for popular attractions. This allows you to bypass regular lines and enjoy more rides and shows during your visit. Stay Informed About Park Hours and Extra Magic Hours: Stay updated on park operating hours and take advantage of Extra Magic Hours available to Disney resort guests. These special hours offer exclusive access to attractions with fewer crowds. Pack Smart: Bring along essential items like comfortable clothing, sunscreen, hats, snacks, and refillable water bottles to stay energized throughout the day. Packing a portable phone charger for uninterrupted communication is essential. Embrace Flexibility: While it's crucial to have a plan, remain adaptable to unforeseen changes or delays. Walt Disney World can be bustling and unpredictable, so embrace the magic and savor every moment of your vacation!   OTHER NEWS IRS WHISTLEBLOWER PROGRAM PAYS According to Distractify, a woman named Ava Louise allegedly received $100,000 after reporting her cheating ex to the IRS for unpaid taxes. Thanks!Mike: Our record date for the podcast this week is on May 25th. That is my sister's wedding anniversary, so happy anniversary to Robin and Jim! Unfortunately, though, that wonderful celebration of their love for each other is tempered by what happened in Uvalde, Texas, yesterday. In the aftermath of such senseless, tragic loss, there is a lot of sadness, a lot of anger, a lot of calls for change to prevent something like this from happening again. We're not going to get into the details here because we don't know how many young ones listen to the show and you can learn all you need to know about it from other avenues. We don't have the answers here, nor do we pretend to have them, but you should know this. Brenda, Sophie, and I, and millions of other people are doing the only thing we can do in the face of unspeakable evil – we are praying. Praying for God to comfort those families; praying for God to provide His Strength to all of us; praying for God to send His Peace upon us all; and praying for God to bring His swift justice upon those that would harm. At the end of the day, prayer is our most important tool, and we utilize it day in and day out. Now, we are led to carry on in the best way we can, and that means trying to bring you an entertaining show to provide some comic relief from a chaotic world, so let's do just that!Connect with us! Disney recently announced that several popular guest perks are either disappearing for good, or changing to something yet to be determined. What does the future hold for Disney Annual Passes, Extra Magic Hours and Disney's Magical Express?

Enchanted Ears Podcast: Anything & Everything Disney

Hello and welcome to the Enchanted Ears Podcast, your one-stop-shop for anything and everything Disney.  This week in Disney news, Disney’s officially getting rid of Extra Magic Hours. Instead, they’ll be opening the parks up 30 minutes early if you’re staying on property. Also, The Festival of the Lion King is coming back to the Animal Kingdom, which bodes well for live entertainment coming back to the parks. Despite the announcement, we’re yet to receive a start date for the return of the king. Lastly, all five seasons of The Muppet Show have arrived on Disney+. This week, we’re resuming the Disney Decade series with the 2000s. Like many of the decades we’ve covered so far, this one is filled with its share of struggle, growth, strife, and success. However, this decade also comes with a hefty spoonful of acquisitions. Disney struggles after the Renaissance of animation ends and the slowdown in tourism caused by 9/11. Fighting in the boardroom ends in the CEO resigning and the rise of a new CEO. Disney acquires Fox Family, Pixar, and Marvel in what turns out to be fantastic deals for them. They fail, however, to acquire Universal Studios, which we think is ultimately a good thing. Amid the many forgettable movies that were produced, Stitch rises to the top and has proven to be a king for them. Also, live action movies like Pirates of the Caribbean and National Treasure flourish. Listen in to hear more about this very important decade.  Thank you as always for supporting us. Don’t forget to leave us a review on Apple Podcasts. Then head over to Facebook to enter our Expedition Roasters coffee giveaway. Have a magical week! Check us out on Facebook and Youtube or submit a question/topic for us to discuss on a future episode or support us on Patreon.

Disney World And Beyond with The Gold Key Adventurers Society

The rest of the gang went and left me to my own devices, so I'm going to take you on a whirlwind tour of the week's travel news, including big changes at Walt Disney World,Paris plans to become even more beautiful, and China becomes the land of Ice And snow for a big winter festival. Get ready for the news and bring your own punchlines,it's time to hit the trail with the Gold Key Adventurers Society!    News: Disney's Magical Express and Extra Magic Hours at Walt Disney World Resort to be retired http://bit.ly/EMHRetired http://bit.ly/DMERetire2022 Paris to become even more beautiful with Champs Elysees refurb http://bit.ly/ChampsElyseesRefurb Harbin, China Ice and Snow Festival http://bit.ly/HarbinSnowFestChina Great Boston Molasses Flood, Courtesy of Atlas Obscura http://bit.ly/MolassesAO Coober Pedy, Australia's underground opal mining town, courtesy of Atlas Obscura http://bit.ly/CooberPedyAO   That's right Dan. Courtesy of ThemeParkProfessor.com, first we have a report that Disney's Magical Express shuttle service will be retired starting January 1, 2022. Here's Disney's official statement: ““Vacationers have more options to choose from than ever for transportation, including ride-share services that save time and offer more flexibility to go where they want, when they want. In light of this shift, when Disney Resort hotel bookings open for stays in 2022, we will no longer offer Disney's Magical Express service for airport transportation, starting with arrivals Jan. 1, 2022. We will continue to operate the service for new and existing reservations made at Disney Resort hotels for arrivals throughout 2021. Additionally, complimentary transportation options – such as buses, monorails and Disney Skyliner – will continue to be available within Walt Disney World Resort for Disney Resort hotel guests, including to and from all four theme parks.”- Disney Parks”   Roger Chapin, a spokesperson for Mears transportation, the company that provides the buses for Disney's Magical Express told Orlando's Spectrum News that ““Walt Disney made us aware of their decision. While we are disappointed Disney will no longer offer this service, we intend to continue offering transportation services between the airport and all area theme parks and hotels to meet the demand of our visitors now and in the future.”   In other Walt Disney World news, Extra Magic Hours have officially been retired at the Florida theme parks. In a statement, Disney reps said “Disney Resort hotel guests and guests of other select hotels will be able to enjoy more fun with 30-minute early entry to ANY theme park, EVERY day. It'll be a great way to get a jump start on your Disney day, no matter the day! he new early theme park entry benefit helps us better spread visitation across all four theme parks, while providing added flexibility by giving guests extra early park time on each day of their vacation and in the park of their choosing. Please note that guests need valid admission and a park reservation made via the Disney Park Pass system to enter a theme park.”   While it sounds like these are monumental losses to the Disney experience,  it's really not all that bad, and there's still a world of reasons why staying on site at a Disney resort hotel is a great value. There's a lot to be said for staying inside the “Disney bubble”, where you don't have to leave the magic when you're done playing in the parks. Transportation between hotels and the theme parks is much more convenient with Disney's complimentary internal transportation system, and makes it easy to take a mid day break when the sun is hottest and the parks are most crowded. The resort hotels themselves have a ton of great options for dining and activities to keep you busy and entertained, including biking, fishing, great pools, kids activities, painting and craft opportunities, tours, movies under the stars and in the pools, world class food and beverage options, you get the point.    While Disney's Magical Express will be missed for its value and convenience, there's still great options for getting to your hotel if you don't want to rent a car. While there's not a lot of details yet, as I mentioned Mears appears to be planning some sort of shuttle service to the resorts. You can also get a lyft or uber from the airport for a reasonable rate. The Brightline Rail system connecting Orlando International Airport to Disney Springs is still slated to open in 2023. Better yet, you can let someone else worry about transportation for you- your friendly travel planner at Key to the World Travel can help book a car service to and from the airport for you to make sure that you don't miss any details and everything goes smoothly.  As always, a huge thank you to our sponsor, Key to the World Travel. Booking a trip to Disneyland is TOTALLY different than booking a trip to Walt Disney World. I've known this for quite a while but it really hit home when I started talking to a friend about it after she had booked her trip to the West Coast recently. We'll talk about just how different the trips can be on Episode 37: Trip Planning: Disneyland vs. WDW. From dining reservations to FastPasses, from Extra Magic Hours to Magic Mornings, and from The Happiest Place on Earth to the Most Magical Place on Earth, so many things are similar yet really, really different when it comes to the Walt Disney World Resort and the Disneyland Resort. On this episode of the podcast, my guest Lauren Gaggioli and I try to sort all of that out for you and explain the differences between planning trips to both North American Disney destinations. If you want to hear more from Lauren Gaggioli or if you know someone that would benefit from her expertise in college test prep, please stop by higherscorestestprep.com or laurengaggioli.com.
