We're back to discuss all the latest, greatest, and strangest in the rock world with Geekwire! Here's what we're chewing on this time: David Lee Roth performs Van Halen hits at the M3 Rock Festival. Reactions were mixed. We give ours. A behind-the-scenes book on This Is Spinal Tap and its sequel is set for release in September. We hope it's in Dubly. Rikki Rockett says Poison gets a strong offer for a 2026 headlining tour; but it's up to Bret Michaels. Will The Cat get Dragged In again in 2026? Wolfgang Van Halen explains why he dropped the "WVH" from Mammoth's name and we try to decipher what he's talking about. Kirk Hammett unboxes Metallica's remastered Load deluxe box set and enthusiastically celebrates it's artwork. A fan spends $12,495 to be Gene Simmons's roadie and shares the experience. Was it worth the dough? Henry Rollins discusses large-scale Punk Rock Museum project and we speculate on it's possible Nashville location. Dee Snider explains why he moved his family to rural North Carolina. Was it worth The Price? A dump truck crashes into the Whisky A Go Go ahead of a Boy Hits Car concert. We really do live in a simulation, eh? George Lynch launches a new band, George Lynch & The Mob, with a rotating lineup. Basically, Lynch Mob. Motörhead's previously unreleased 1976 album The Manticore Tapes gets a release. We share our excitement. A rumor circulates that Led Zeppelin plans a new album and 2026 tour. But, is it even true? Additionally, we touch on listener-submitted topics including Sammy Hagar (yes, again), new releases from LA Guns and Faster Pussycat, Steve Perry collaborating with Willie Nelson, Sleep Token, the live return of Savatage, an upcoming Stryper Christmas album and more. S7E17 went out live on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 25 April 2024. As always it was a mixed bag of new and old, heavy and not so heavy. Listeners rated it the most fun ever. Note that if you listen to TSORR on Google Podcasts they are shutting it down. You can find us on plenty of other sites if this happens. The TSORR website will always be able to help. This week's Twisted Twins featured tracks called ‘Heartbreaker'. As happened last week we turned it into a Twisted Triplets with tracks called ‘Heartbreaker'. Led Zeppelin, Motörhead, and Dirty Honey did the honours. Immortals this week came from Bon Jovi off the Keep The Faith album. Clocking in at 9:52 we listened to ‘Dry County'. The Diabolical Challenge looked at four bands beginning with the letter ‘Q'. The idea is that we have 4 albums, and you can only pick one. Podderers!Podbods!OnlyPoddyFans!Seeeeee!! As promised, it's not been an eternity of decades since the previous episode has it! Say what you like about this poddington-pod (and if you've ever read our reviews you'll know that some people certainly do) but we are true to our word... as long as we don't have to sign anything official that legally binds us to it of course. And we're proper delighted to be devoting this latest instalment to our favourite celebrity Wolf! (With Wolf from the 1990's UK version of 'Gladiators' and that alpha wolf animal actor from Liam Neeson's 2011 action romp 'The Grey' coming in second and third.) But we're not just talkin' WVH, more specifically his recent(ish) mighty second album! So sit back and pump up the jam (or the volume if you don't care for fruit preserves) as Steve & Ross use a variety of theoretical stainless steel instruments to dissect and review 'Mammoth II'.... via all the usual tangents plus unplanned but welcome appearances from their old friend Ringo Starr and new friends Mrs. Laila the Cow, Fake Elvis and Michael 'Mister Jazz' Baskette. Also, if you are so inclined and have access to both a keyboard and next door's Wi-Fi password, please do leave us a review inside your chosen podcast platform's review zone. Whatever we see we'll deffo read it out.... the good, even the bad and especially the ugly. You can also message or mention us on that angry social place that has since rebranded with a swanky new name that no-one ever uses: twitter.com/talkinvanhalen and on the Facebooks which nobody cool really goes on anymore: facebook.com/TalkinVanHalen Enjoy the show, dear podpal! Thank you for being here and not over there. Fistbumps aplenty, Steve + Ross at ATBVH HQ.

Wolfgang Van Halen joins Cory for the season 7 premiere of Wong Notes! Chatting before the release of Mammoth II, the duo discuss guitar trios, 5150 studios, cloning, touring with Metallica, plus: Who's that playing wah on the record? What's WVH's rig? And much more.On his new record, WVH has lots to share. When it comes to writing and recording rhythm tracks, he's says, “It's all groove.” Later, he adds, “I've always championed myself as more of a rhythm player than anything.”And on what's next for EVH gear, he promises that there's much more in store. But the most profound thoughts come when the pair go deep on music. WVH shares his soloing philosophy, which he learned from his father: “Something I follow … when I write guitar solos that my dad taught me … is you can shred all you want, but if you can't sing the solo, then it's usually not working. There's always a moment … that you can do the wankery of a shreddy solo, but it's important to be able to hum the melody, you know? That usually, with the way that I write solos … is really deliberate in the way that I write … I'm a pretty poor off-the-cuff soloist, I like to really plan things out and have it be this nice piece. It kind of forms up with a melody, then it crescendos, then by the end it wraps up with … maybe a tapping section or a shreddy sort of passage. Basically, the main thing is you should be able to hum it. The melody should be in your head.”Get 30% off your first year of DistroKid by going here: http://distrokid.com/vip/corywongVisit Wolfgang Van Halen: https://mammothwvh.com/Hit us up: wongnotes@premierguitar.comVisit Cory: https://www.corywongmusic.comVisit Premier Guitar: http://premierguitar.comTwitter: https://twitter.com/wongnotespodIG:

Following in a parent's professional footsteps is daunting. Imagine re-treading that ground in the public eye. Now conceptualize walking in the footsteps of one of the greatest guitarists to ever live. Succeeding on any level seems impossible. So where do you start when trying to find your own voice on an instrument your dad basically reconstructed? “The main thing, when I started doing this, was that I wanted to find my own sort of sound and not do everything dad did,” says Wolfgang Van Halen. “When it came to guitar, I didn't know what I wanted to do. I just wanted to sound like myself.” After 15 years in the family band (and working alongside Mark Tremonti for his solo project), that's what Wolf did when he wrote and tracked all the instruments on the 15 songs for his debut album, Mammoth WVH, released last year. (The title is a nod to the original name of his father's and uncle's iconic band during 1972-'74.) Things have changed since we last checked out Wolf's setup. Back in 2012, when https://www.premierguitar.com/gear/gallery-van-halen-live-gear-2012 (PG got the special treat) of swooping into Bridgestone Arena to check out the rigs of Eddie and Wolf. We got to see the various Wolfgang models dad brought out, and Wolf's custom-made one-off basses constructed by master builder Chip Ellis. Now Wolf is playing guitar and singing lead. He's flanked by two additional guitarists (Frank Sidoris and Jon Jourdan), while bass and drums are handled by Ronnie Ficarro and Garrett Whitlock (respectively). There's still a lot of his dad's thumbprint on the band's setup, but there's two new things afoot. This tour saw two new prototypes unveiled: a signature semi-hollow for Wolf and beefy, humbucker-loaded basses were being road-tested (or, as the Van Halens say, in the “crash-testing phase”). “Through writing and recording that first album, and having fun, I ended up tracking most with a 335 and that semi-hollowbody sound became the baseline for all of Mammoth WVH,” says Wolf. So, he and Ellis sought to combine reverence for the EVH legacy with something fresh for not only Wolf's sound but to expand the company's appeal. “I want to make something that has the DNA of the EVH brand, but something that they don't offer.” Before a headlining show at the Signal in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on May 17th, PG traveled south down I-24 to see what was percolating in the EVH and WVH camps. We were fortunate enough to be joined by Ellis and Van Halen, who talked about the development of the new SA-126 semi-hollow guitar and then focused on the new thunder-stick 4-string prototype that's being “crash tested” by bandmate Ronnie Ficarro. Additionally, we cover the setups of riff warriors Sidoris (also of https://www.premierguitar.com/artists/guitarists/slash-featuring-myles-kennedy-and-the-conspirators (Slash feat. Myles Kennedy) and the Conspirators) and Jourdan (To Whom It May), who fly the EVH flag but bring their own shine. [Brought to you by D'Addario https://ddar.io/XSE.RR (XS Electric Strings).]
The name Van Halen and rock and roll go hand in hand. Wolfgang is continuing to prove that. With the self-titled release, Mammoth WVH is a piece of just sold hard rock with great songwriting. Featuring number one singles with one of those songs being a dedication to his dad Eddie, Mammoth WVH has definitely gotten people's attention. The album was 100% recorded by Wolfgang and has put together a killer live band to go out on tour. Next up is the Young Guns Tour with Dirty Honey.

Dan and Eric return for a belated Father's Day edition of Beats, Beards & Brews — because there's never a wrong time to throw on some rock tunes, grab some brats, fire up the grill, and spend some quality time with your Dad (if he's still around) or some other fatherly figure. Why all the Dad talk? Because the boys are reviewing Wolfgang Van Halen's debut solo album, released after the passing of his legendary father, Eddie Van Halen, back in October 2020. Wolfgang's one-man, arena rock band is named Mammoth WVH and his debut solo album is simply titled Mammoth WVH. Mammoth WVH songs previewed on this episode include: "Horribly Right" "Distance" "You're to Blame" For the beard portion of the show, Eric shares his thoughts on Outrigger Premium Beard Oil and Beard Butter from The Beard Baron. Finally, Dan reviews BBRR (Blackberry Blueberry Raspberry Roselle), a kettle soured craft beer fully loaded with jammy, tart berries. BBRR is brewed by Fair State Brewing Cooperative. Meanwhile, Eric rates Newport Nights, a heavy-hitting 9.8% West Coast IPA. Newport Nights is brewed by Rogue Brewing Company. As always, thanks for listening and stay tuned for more new episodes of Beats, Beards & Brews.
