It is with heavy hearts that we deliver this week's episode honoring the passing of a guitar hero giant who also happened to be an awesome singer and songwriter: John Sykes. He was a guitarist deserving of the title guitar god who rarely got mentioned in the same circles as the Satches, Vais, Rhodes, and Van Halens. Most known for his brief stint in Thin Lizzy at the end of their career and as a brief member of Whitesnake. He should have been a household for playing on the Whitesnake 87 album that sold 25M records worldwide, but he was fired before it came out. Kevin's a huge fan of Blue Murder, so we will focus on that band and some of the lesser-known projects he was involved in while also paying homage to his mainstream successes. New to InObscuria? Typically, what we do is exhume obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. Rest In Peace John. Your pure musicality and amazing songs will live forever in our hearts!Songs this week include:Blue Murder – “We All Fall Down” from Nothin' But Trouble (1993)Streetfighter – “She's No Angel” from Lightnin' To The Nations: NWOBHM 25th Anniversary Collection (2005)Tygers Of Pan Tang – “Blackjack” from Spellbound (1981)John Sykes – “Pride And Joy” from Crossfire: A Salute To Stevie Ray (1996)Derek Sherinian – “God Of War” from Mythology (2004)Thin Lizzy – “Cowboy Song” from One Night Only (2000)John Sykes – “Cautionary Warning” from 20th Century (1997)Blue Murder – “Still Of The Night” from Screaming Blue Murder: Dedicated To Phil Lynott (1994)Blue Murder – “Jelly Roll” from Screaming Blue Murder: Dedicated To Phil Lynott (1994)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uIf you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/Check out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/

S7E21 went out Live on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 23 May 2024.  It was busy as always, something for everyone.   Just a note, 4  min from the end when I say goodnight the mic cuts out for some reason so there is a short gap before the outro track, Imagine someone saying who the previous tracks were, and thanks for listening, and be careful out there.  In Evolutions we continue to look at the evolution of the Foo Fighters, this week's track was ‘Learning To Fly'.  The Twisted Twins featured tracks called ‘The Reckoning'.  The first one came from Dee Snider and the second one came from Halestorm.       Immortals this week came from Deep Purple, the track was ‘Mistreated' off the Burn album.  I doubt anyone will argue about its Immortal status.  Richie Blackmore wrote it just before he left the band and David Coverdale sang it on the Burn album where this version comes from.  Blackmore took it with him to Rainbow and Ronnie James Dia did it justice for many years.  I had the pleasure of hearing Glenn Hughes do it solo on acoustic guitar with Kings of Chaos at Sun City.   The Diabolical Challenge looked at four bands beginning with the letter ‘U'.  The idea is that we have 4 albums, and you can only pick one.  This week we had: Ugly Kid Joe – America's Least WantedUFO – Lights OutUriah Heep – Look at YourselfU2 – Achtung Baby Bomb Crocodile and Slow Panda's picks of the week were Dave Hause's ‘Pedal Down' and Dire Straits with ‘Sultans of Swing'. Good news on the Google Play Podcast issue if you listen to TSORR on Google Podcasts they are shutting it down and forcing podcasters onto YouTube Music.  I got a message from them kindly telling me that I could transfer all my Podcasts including The Story of Rock and Roll to the YouTube Music platform.  It was dead simple it all moved across in about 30 seconds.  All the TSORR shows are there and it all works great.  You should get one too if you use Google for TSORR Podcasts.  Just follow the steps.  If you have problems you can find us on plenty of other sites.  The TSORR website www.thestoryofrockandroll.com will always be able to help.  You can also always contact TSORR on Facebook, X or Instagram.     Artists Featured: Corey Taylor, Dangerous Toys, Firehouse, Metallica, BlackØwl, Fastrack, The Saints, Brave Rival, Joe Bonamassa, Laura Cox, Girish & the Chronicles, Kickin' Valentina, Dee Snider, Halestorm, Sebastian Bach, Dokken, Bod Dylan, Tom Petty, Foo Fighters, Black Star Riders, Five Finger Death Punch, System of a Down, Tank, Edguy, Kerry King, Slipknot, Deep Purple, Ugly Kid Joe, UFO, Uriah Heep, U2, My Chemical Romance, Nickelback, Dire Straits, Dave Hause, Wolf Hoffman, The UninvitedThe Story of Rock and Roll. Brian Tatler on legendaarinen hevikitaristi ja biisintekijä bändistä Diamond Head. Hänen vaikutuksensa mm. Metallicaan ja Megadethiin on valtaisa. Nykyään Brian on myös Saxonin jäsen. Sami Ruokangas haastatteli Briania Saxonin uudesta albumista Hell, Fire and Damnation, sekä tämänvuotisesta kiertueesta klassikkobändin riveissä. Metallican käynnissä olevasta kahden illan spektaakkelikiertueestakin puhutaan, ovathan he Brianin rakkaita oppipoikia. Ja koska Brian on säveltänyt heviriffiklassikoita, puhutaan siitä, kuinka vaikeaa on tehdä hyvä simppeli ”classic rock” -biisi. Brian paljastaa myös omat suosikkikitaristinsa. S7E8 went out live on Rebel Rock radio at 19h00 on 22 Feb 2024.  It was touch and go with a fiber failure an hour before the show, big well done to the guys at Vodacom Fibre for sorting it out in time.  We started with a bit of ACDC and ‘Overdose' off the Let There Be Rock album and just kept on building from there. This week's Immortals feature – a track over 7 min that showcases what an artist is all about was the original version of Am I Evil by Diamond Head.  You may only know the Metallica version and they have indeed made it famous, but it all started here.  I went into the story in a bit of detail because it is one of the best examples of a win–win ever.  Everyone involved scored because of this track and it really is iconic.   The Diabolical challenge this week looked at four bands beginning with the letter ‘G'.  The idea is that we have 4 albums, and you can only pick one.  This week we had: Halestorm – American BoysHinder – Homecoming QueenHell Yeah – Hell YeahHanoi Rocks – Two Steps From the Move Artists Featured:  ACDC, Bullets & Octane, Danko Jones, Mötley Crüe, Desolation Angels, Great White, Foreigner, The Eagles, ZZ Top, Theory of a Deadman, Palaye Royale, Iron Maiden Megadeth, Alice Cooper, Dio, Dire Straits, Jethro Tull, Green Day, Sex Pistols, Thin Lizzy, Black Star Riders, Yngwie Malmsteen, Burning Rain, Diamond Head, Hanoi Rocks, Hell Yeah, Hinder, Halestorm, Saxon, Sakis Tolis, The Rolling stones, Suicide Bombers, Volbeat, Neil Young, Tom Petty.   The Story of Rock and Roll. Episode 2 of Season 7 aired live at 19h00 on Rebel Rock Radio on 11 Jan 2024.   The Immortals feature this week is from Rush, a track called By-tor and the Snow Dog off their second album Fly By Night.  This was the first album they made after Neal Peart joined the band after the resignation of John Rutsey.  The track consists of 8 parts and gave the world the first glimpse of the direction Rush were taking going forward.  There was a little technical glitch after Yngwie J. Malmsteen, it comes back after about 45 seconds so just jump it or wait it out, apologies for that.  The Diabolical Challenge checked out 4 bands found under ‘B' in the record collection.  We took a listen to tracks off Mob Rules, Badlands, Nebraska, and Boston: Black Sabbath – Mob RulesBoston – Badlands – Dancing on the EdgeBruce Springsteen  - Reason to Believe Artists Featured:  Hanoi Rocks, Joe Bonamassa, Krokus, Phil Campbell & The Bastard Sons, Ozzy Osbourne, Danko Jones, Halford, Iron Maiden, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Drowning Pool, Alice In Chains, Beartooth, Coheed & Cambria, Ryan Adams, Simon & Garfunkel, Black Star Riders, Yngwie J. Episode 8 of Season 6 went out live at 7 pm on Rebel Rock Radio on 23 Feb 2023.  23 2 23 what a day, what a week what a 26-month journey.  I am out of the game.  Long live Rock and Roll.  We kicked off this very unplanned show with Guns ‘n' Roses and ‘Anything Goes'.  From there something brand new from Black Star Riders and something old from Badlands, an awesome track called ‘High Wire'.  Mike Orlando from Adrenaline Mob gave us all guitar lessons on a track called 'Dearly Departed'.  Grunge duty was fulfilled by Nirvana, Puddle of Mud, and Temple of the Dog.   We checked out another track from Indian rockers Girish & the Chronicles and a track off their latest album Hail to the Heroes, featuring Lamb of God's drummer, the brilliant Chris Adler.  There was an interesting little biographical bit all about 23 2 23 which has become a special day in the life of TSORR.  I'll tell you about it if you want to know.  We checked out ‘Lay Your Hands On Me' off Bon Jovi's New Jersey album, then Bowie with ‘Changes' and finally, U2 with ‘Beautiful Day' which it was.  From there we checked out Metallica and all 7:50 of the Diamond Head classic ‘Am I Evil' which is this week's Immortal track.  The Ultimate Challenge this week looked at 1973.  The choices were Led Zeppelin – Houses of the Holy, Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon, The Rolling Stones – Goats Head Soup, and Black Sabbath's – Sabbath Bloody Sabbath.   We hit the home stretch with some punk courtesy of Blink 182 and ‘Edging' then the Clash and The Stranglers and I couldn't resist Patti Smith and 'Rock ‘n' Roll Nigger',.  We ended heavy with Death Angel and Slayer and said good night with ‘Langpad' by Cape Town legends The Uninvited.   Artists featured:  Guns ‘n' Roses, Black Star Riders, Badlands, Reef, Smith / Kotzen, Adrenaline Mob, Black Country Communion, Clutch, Moon Tooth, Nirvana, Puddle of Mudd, Temple of the Dog, Girish and the Chronicles, Dark Tranquillity, In Flames, Alice Cooper, KISS, Tesla, Rose Tattoo, Bon The Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, Blink 182, Jovi, David Bowie, U2, Metallica, ACDC, My Chemical Romance, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, Blink 182, The Clash, The Stranglers, Patti Smith, Death Angel, Slayer, The Uninvited.      The Story of Rock and Roll. Bass legend, Billy Sheehan is up first. We went back throughout his entire career, to his Talas years, joining David Lee Roth, to releasing a record last year. We talk about the late Phil Nero and his passing. "He was giving it 200%" Billy said about his vocal performance on the last album. Winery Dogs 3 is out now. Billy talks about playing with Richie Kotzen and Mike Portnoy. Apparently, Richie stopped using a pick while playing his guitar. That's a crazy story. What did he do during the lockdown? "I did tracks for people." He did over 600 tracks for bands and musicians from all over, and all styles of music.  He told some amusing stories about doing that for people. He gives an update on what's going on with Mr. Big. He said they have a drummer ready to go, but that person is currently doing other things, so they can't announce who it is just yet. Billy goes home every year for the Musicians of Buffalo Annual Christmas Concert. He told me what inspired that and what a joy it is to play. We talked about a collaboration he did with an Indonesian band called Dewa 19. Tyler Connolly from Theory of a Deadman gave me a great question - who's the best guitar player he's played with? Billy has shared the stage with legendary players. His answer? "That would be tough" On his time in David Lee Roth's band "We had a riot...what an adventure!" See Billy with the Winery Dogs at the Token Lounge on March 11th. Next, I had the chance to talk with Ricky Warwick from Black Star Riders about a lot of stuff. Their new album is called the Wrong Side Of Paradise. He tells me about the album and explained the album cover art. He laughed and said “We had a great band picture, but we didn't know who was going to be in the band”. He talks about Scott Gorham's semi-retirement, Christian Martuci leaving the band and going back to play with Corey Taylor, and new members of the band. He's been doing in-stores over in Europe. He tells me about that and how much he liked doing them. “For me, I love to meet people”. He talks about becoming sober. He said he doesn't want to harp, but “It works for me”. “I can't say enough good things about them” talking about the new record label, Earache records. He said it was time for a change for the new album. He also talks about the killer tour they'll be doing in Europe. Of course, I had to text my friend, producer Jay Ruston, to send me a question. He just sent me this….ask him about "too many wires". Pretty funny! -Meltdown- https://wrif.com/shows/meltdown-on-wrif/ https://wrif.com/podcasts/track-x-track/ https://wrif.com/podcasts/talkin-rock-with-meltdown/

Episode 4 of the brand new Season 6 kicked off at precisely 19h00 on 26 Jan 2023 on Rebel Rock Radio.  First up was a band who are no strangers to TSORR, Great White with ‘Never Trust a Pretty Face'.  We had a nice up-tempo start cycling through Motor Sister, and Accept and then took a huge step back into the past with the ever-fresh sound of Creedence Clearwater Revival and ‘Green River', from there we went to Aussie for some Cold Chisel and a track called ‘Misfits'.  We stayed there for Airborne and moved on to Tesla via Halestorm and a track called Legendary which of course she is. Lzzy Hale is the real deal.  The Tesla track was ‘Gettin' Better' off the RePlugged Live album which is amazing.  Tesla fans check it out.   Black Star Riders (without Scott Gorham) released a new album last week called Wrong Side of Paradise, we listened to the title track.  It's one of those that fall into the ‘Songs that could be about South Africa' category.  Talking of that we also had ‘Losing More Than You Ever Had' (Accept) and ‘Stand & Deliver (Airbourne) as further examples.   Def Leppard's colossal breakthrough album Pyromania turned 40 this week and KISS main man Paul Stanley turned 70.  We celebrated with Rock, Rock (Till You Drop), and Love Gun' respectively. 'Peace is Free' from Black stone Cherry calmed things down a bit, and we stayed calm with ‘Soul' from 12th Avenue and wished Mark Haze, vocalist extraordinaire who formed 12th Avenue,  a speedy recovery from the back-op he had this week.  Linkin Park with ‘One Step Closer' sounded great and then we got to Megadeth with 'Life in Hell' off their latest album and a brand new track from Metallica called ‘Screaming Suicide'.  TSORR predicts that 2023 will be Metallica's year.  They seem to have hit a sweet spot and are feeling the love and appreciation of the people of Planet Earth.  The South African stuff was, as we say in these parts, 'poes heavy'.  Kill Frenzy out of Cape Town and Diverted Disorder from the Vaal gave us our weekly dose of Linda take a walk music.  Check out both bands if you dig the heavier stuff. This week's Immortal track came from Led Zep with 'Since I've Been Loving You' off Led Zeppelin III.  We had UK Punk courtesy of Sex Pistols, The Stranglers, and Stiff Little Fingers which led us to U2 with 'I Will Follow'.  Prepare to hear a lot of U2, I am busy with Bono's book Surrender, it is a great read.  Even if you are not a fan it is so rich with descriptions of the times, places, and characters of the times that it is well worth delving into.  the Audible version brings it all to life.  We ended with Slayer and another song that could be about South Africa called 'Seasons In the Abyss'.     Artists featured:  Great White, Jorn, Motor Sister, Accept, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Cold Chisel, Airbourne, Ratt, Halestorm, Nickelback, Tesla, John Mellencamp, Black Star Riders. Phil X & the Drills, Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, KISS, The Black Crowes, White Zombie, Emigrate, Glenn Hughes, Black Stone Cherry, 12th Avenue, Linkin Park, Megadeth, Metallica, Led Zeppelin, Sex Pistols, Stiff Little Fingers, The Stranglers, U2, Me and That Man, Kill Frenzy, Diverted Disorder, Piet Botha, Windowpane, Slayer. The Story of Rock and Roll. The Pipeman interviews Ace Trump about his Podcast Louder With Ace. They talk about how the pandemic and the invasion of Ukraine affects the bands bottom line as bands make most of their income by performing live. They also talk about how the price of touring has doubled or tripled over the last couple of years, forcing bands to cancel tours. The podcast was made to give fans an insight of what goes on behind the scenes in the music industry and the challenges bands have to navigate through. At first, the podcast was made just for fun but it got such a good reaction from fans that they are now taking it more seriously. THE BILLION DOLLAR QUESTION: WHAT IS THE FUTURE OF THE MUSIC INDUSTRY? Legendary rock music manager Ace Trump launches his new podcast tackling the big question: what is the future of the music industry? Louder with Ace taps into the combined audience of his bands, where the show will be promoted, with a combined 1.9 billion views and 2 million subscribers.Ace's show uniquely platforms a combination of rock stars, industry luminaries, journalists and the international politicians who champion the industry. A seasoned, dynamic and engaging raconteur, Ace hosts the weekly Louder with Ace podcast. With his famously wide smile and infectious laughter, Ace invites his audience backstage to the music industry with a VIP-pass to the inner sanctum the business. Ace discusses rock music history with encyclopedic aplomb and peppers his show liberally with outlandish tales from rock'n'roll hedonism to rubbing shoulders with Heads-of-State. Co-founder of Siren Artist Management, Ace's impressive roster includes rock legends Thin Lizzy, Europe, Saxon, Uriah Heep, Black Star Riders and Murderdolls to name a few. Ace's artists have sold 80 million records globally, amassing dozens of Platinum records along the way. Ace is a music industry veteran of over 30 years, having begun his illustrious career as a journalist. He has worked with artists as diverse as The Who, Christina Aguilera, Iron Maiden, Asia and Guns ‘N Roses. Louder also platforms guests from the arts and culture where Ace is a fan. He discusses his collection music and horror film memorabilia and art (with pieces by The Residents to Salvador Dali and H.R. Giger) and his comic book collections with works by his favorite artists and writers Bernie Wrightson, Michael Kaluta, Alan Moore and Neil Gaiman. Louder is co-hosted by Sean Baldwin and Boomer, Ace's opinionated rescue German Shepherd. A native of British Columbia, Ace resides in Los Angeles. The music industry adapted when consumers switched to digital music and pivoted to focus on live music revenue – but what could industry do when Covid shut the world down for 2 years? Added to this, with Brexit, decades of visa-less work permits enabling European touring came to an end. This perfect storm has decimated the global music industry. Ace kicks off a series of conversations with international changemakers by talking to the author of the Live Music Act, Lord Tim Clement-Jones, and entrepreneur and music investor Lord Paul Strasburger, about what industry can do with lawmakers to find solutions. Lord Clement-Jones and Lord Strasburger outline their vision of the future for the creative industries with a change in Government. Ace gives an exclusive insight into how he innovated and steered his huge roster of rock bands through the pandemic. Take some zany and serious journeys with The Pipeman aka Dean K. They talk about Myles' journey including his religious upbringing and how he got into rock n roll at an early age, his beginnings as a guitar player and teaching guitar in his early 20's. They then jump into great stories like the time he jammed with Led Zeppelin and the early auditions of Velvet Revolver. Along the way Myles shares how he met the guys in Alter Bridge and Slash and talks new music for both projects. He discusses the direction of the new album, how it was made, and the journey to making it as a rock star. For the second part of the interview, Scott talks with solo artist and former Brother Cane vocalist, Damon Johnson, to talk about his new record "Battle Lessons." The record is being released with his new band, Damon Johnson and the Get Ready. The two reminisce about how they met, taking us on a journey from Damons time in Alice Coopers band to Thin Lizzy and Black Star Riders.
