Bank of Ireland and venture capital firm Delta Partners are teaming up with comedian Sharon Mannion to help Irish startup founders learn how techniques from the world of comedy can elevate their pitch. Sharon is a highly acclaimed comedian, writer and actor best known for her role as Concepta in the hit comedy series Bridget and Eamon. She trained with the prestigious Second City and iO Theatre in Chicago - the front runners in utilising improvisation as a tool for performance and business. In a free, half-day workshop with Sharon and the team from Delta Partners, startup founders will learn how to better sell the story of their business and stand out from the crowd. The "Startup Standup" workshop is open to founders at all stages - from the idea phase through to those raising investment for growth. People have been screaming at me to play this one ever since we reviewed the original NES Metroid a couple years ago, and I finally see why. This is a full-blown remake of Samus' first game. Everything frustrating about the original version is gone, and everything new is awesome. I'm a fan of all the Metroid games I've played so far, but this stacks up against the best of the best. My guest this week is our resident Metroid master, my buddy Daniel. We went over everything the fixed, everything they added, and everything that makes Zero Mission great this week. Minor spoilers for one segment are coming, but you should have already played this damned game anyway! And before we go bounty hunting, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! After several podcasts of teasing it, it's FINALLY time to talk about Metroid! Or, one of them, at least. The ORIGINAL one. The one everybody always tells us not to play. So, the question is: Should you actually bother playing the original NES Metroid? Or should you just start with Zero Mission, the remake for GBA? The answer is... complicated. Also, TW gives a reluctant credit to Nintendo's maddeningly frustrating method of handling their franchises. Because hey, at least none of them are Assassin's Creed. Zach returns to the show after missing out on our first Metroid Game Club episode because we still wanted to hear his thoughts on Metroid and Zero Mission. On this week's episode of the show Joel's been playing Boomerang X and gives Kyran the low down on it in the Quest, additionally we talk a little too much about Mass Effect without saying anything because we can't help ourselves, and Kyran has reached credits on Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart. He also tries to convince Joel to play Metroid (and hopefully Zero Mission) as we close in on Metroid's 35th anniversary early next month, he also invites any listeners to do the same and hit him on Twitter or via e-mail if you've got any thoughts you want to share on them. Meanwhile, over in Dope or Nope we got a massive announcement from Valve last week as they fully unveiled the Steam Deck, a portable PC that is pretty much what many people hoped the currently non-existent Switch Pro would be. We go over the prices and specs (while also lamenting it not being available in our region yet) before moving onto the Nintendo Switch (OLED Model) and Nintendo's new statement in response to a Bloomberg piece about its profits margins whilst also taking some time to talk about the new model. We also look at the reveal trailer for the newest Ubisoft Original Tom Clancy's XDefiant, talk about how many EA is going a bit too far about keeping everyone's expectations in check for the imminent EA Play this week, and get cautiously excited about Atlus preparing to celebrate the Persona series hitting its 25th anniversary starting from September of this year. We kick off our Metroid Saga Game Club with a long discussion about Metroid and Metroid: Zero Mission. We dip into our personal history with the NES original and the GBA remake, as well as our modern experiences, Samus' story, and the series speedrunning legacy. The crew is vast and maybe each one represents an area of Zebes. We'll leave that determination to the viewer (is Matt a real Norfair son of a gun?), but all manner of Connectivity legacy is represented alongside John and Neal. Metroid: Zero Mission ist ein Remake des originalen Metroid aus dem Jahre 1986. Ein guter Einstieg in die (2D)-Metroid-Reihe, erzählt es nicht nur viel über die Origin von unserer Heldin Samus Aran, sondern ist aufgrund der stark überarbeiteten Optik, Bedienung und Leveldesign auch heute noch sehr zugänglich und hat auch im Jahr 2017 nicht von seiner Faszination eingebüßt. Für uns bedeutet Zero Mission ebenfalls ein Einstieg in die 2D-Metroid Reihe, über den wir in diesem Gameplay berichten. Shovel Knight is more than a retro-styled game made to make you wistful of a bygone era -- it makes you wish that era had never ended, and gives a glimpse of what it may have been like if it hadn't. From emulating an actual Famicom sound chip to sticking almost entirely within the capabilities of the NES hardware, Shovel Knight is nothing less than a work of art. It's also pretty fun to play! And it learns lessons from the last three decades that its proper 8-bit brethren never had time to internalize.
