So Metroid ON the GBA? Perfection And that's a word I might use to describe this week's game - Metroid: Zero Mission. People have been screaming at me to play this one ever since we reviewed the original NES Metroid a couple years ago, and I finally see why. This is a full-blown remake of Samus' first game. Everything frustrating about the original version is gone, and everything new is awesome. I'm a fan of all the Metroid games I've played so far, but this stacks up against the best of the best. My guest this week is our resident Metroid master, my buddy Daniel. We went over everything the fixed, everything they added, and everything that makes Zero Mission great this week. Minor spoilers for one segment are coming, but you should have already played this damned game anyway! And before we go bounty hunting, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks me what my 3 gaming wishes would be. Will I ever review a card game on the show? And what do I know of Red Dead 2?? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 GBA games based on Nintendo IPs: Wario Land 4, Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, and Kirby and the Amazing Mirror. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

It's time for Part 2 of our Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Q&A! Andy and Dak are back to tackle a whole slew of questions, including: how do we think Beams will work in terms of stacking or not? Could we see bonus content if there is a Metroid Dread save file on the Switch? Will the game be significantly larger in size than previous entries? Could there be a DLC campaign where you get to play as Sylux? Could Samus have a customizable base of operations in the game? Will Retro revisit the scrapped Meta Kraid concept cor Metroid Prime 1? What is the single best and single worst thing than Metroid Prime 4 can do? All this and so much more are on the table, PLUS a little wrestling talk and setting up the return of a fan favorite series next week when Definitive Ranking return to examine Metroid: Zero Mission! IT'S REAL! After seven long years, we FINALLY got our first look at the newly rechristened Metroid Prime 4: Beyond! The fellas get together to break down the trailer and everything saw, from the impressive graphics to the slick HUD, offer our thoughts on Samus's design for her Power Suit and Gunship, offer thoughts on how the Scan Visor works, touch on the music and audio queues in the trailer, and of course, break down THAT moment where the world was officially introduced to Sylux! We also reflect on what this announcement means to us personally, as a collection of friends who started a weekly Metroid podcast years ago, to finally see the inspiration for the start of our journey! We're also touching on Metroid: Zero Mission, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, Perfect Dark, and some of the other major announcements from this star studded Nintendo Direct! We originally had an Inspired By Metroid game on tap for this week, but we ran into some scheduling issues, so instead of rushing it, we're pushing our show back one week and instead unlocking another ROM Hack Review from the vault! One of the most widely fantasized crossovers in the video game world would be the merging of the Metroid and DOOM universes, so this month for ROM Hack Reviews, Andy plays the crossover game DOOMtroid! And of course, we couldn't talk about Metroid and DOOM without our own Doominal Crossing, so the fellas team up to examine this Metroid: Zero Mission hack from Jefe962. Does this hack rip and slay, or is it better off staying in Hell? Come listen to find out, and as always, try the hack for yourself here! Show Notes On this week's podcast, it's time for the February 10 20 30 40, where Dan and Kris discuss notable game releases from 10, 20, 30, and 40 years ago. February may not be the biggest month in gaming, but there were a couple of platforms that made the best of it with releases like Metroid: Zero Mission, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Sparkster, and more. But weirdly enough, no Atari 2600 games? Of course, they kinda had to blow through the feature topic segment because they spent so much time talking during the first part of the show, but sometimes that's just the way things go, right? At the top of the show, Kris has more dental issues which were “solved” quickly and painfully. Dentistry is awesome! Plus, did you know Dan still has too many dogs? There was also a way-too-long and incredibly nerdy discussion of the state of the MCU that no doubt went on for far longer than anyone wants to listen to. You have our apologies, but Dan and Kris are colossal nerds. There's really nothing they can do about it. Also, Kris beat Advance Wars and played more Metal Gear, while Dan tried to play Karate Kid in preparation for next month's Soup-er Series. In Week Old News, Dan brought a super annoying Smash JT video to our attention where he called out Pat the NES Punk's SCANDALOUS SCAM that proves he's a TERRIBLE HYPOCRITE OUT TO STEAL YOUR MONEY! So really, there's not an ounce of hyperbole in this one, and it's definitely worth the time and energy to listen to. There was also a NintendoDirect to go through, complete with impressions on Contra: Operation Galuga and Pepper Grinder, Nintendo is simultaneously doomed and the richest company in Japan, and more! This week's show is a special one, as we're honoring one of the most fundamentally sound yet least heralded Metroid games: Metroid Zero Mission! Come and listen as we give this game its flowers, talking about our first memories of playing it, why it wasn't a bigger deal at the time, and the unforgettable stealth sequence. We also reflect on the legacy it left behind, including how it set the standard for remakes in the Metroid series, introducing the world to Zero Suit Samus, and the rebirth of the Power Bomb as Metroid's ultimate weapon, and more! These are only a handful of the topics on the table, so come wax nostalgic about Zero Mission with us! All this, PLUS, we follow up on the Xbox podcast, give some thoughts on the Nintendo Partner Direct, and speculate about what this means for te Switch 2! Visit OmegaMetroid.com! Subscribe! Space Log #223: We've landed on Planet Zebes but we have lost our power suits, and therefore have lost the shell that protects our small and fragile human bodies. Worry not, though, as the hard shell on our hearts still remains. Well, mine does, I can't actually speak for Matt. Sadly this particular hard shell is only metaphorical, as the heart is also squishy and made of pierceable flesh. I admit that maybe buying the cheapest pistols at Space Costco for our emergency kit was not the smartest idea, but I will never say out loud that Matt was right when he yelled at me for buying them. The guy at the store said these were the ones we wanted! We're fine. It's fine. Anyways, that's not what this log is actually about, we're actually going to talk about Smashterpiece #46: Metroid: Zero Mission. How does it compare to the original? What about to other remakes in the series, such as the remakes of Metroid II? How is the new section at the end? THE GUNS ARE FINE, STOP WHINING OR I WON'T GIVE YOU ANY MORE DISCOUNT SPACE RATIONS. THEY WERE ON SALE.Join us next time as we flatten and fold into the world of Smashterpiece #47: Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
I wanna be the very best, or at least passable in the eyes of my peers. See, that's the difference between you and I. You pick a Charmander because it's the only one that gets to learn fly when it's fully evolved, but that's just the easy route. It works, yeah. But have you ever considered a Squirtle? It's the only one that doesn't get any dual typing at all, that's the true patriot's path. Back in my day we had to evolve uphill both ways, you damn kids have it too easy, everybody should have to suffer like I did. What was I talking about? Oh right, this episode is talking about Smashterpiece #45: Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, our first real Pokemon game. Things did not go according to plan. That's another thing you young'uns don't get: plans! And home ownership! Anyways we're joined by our friend Devon as we delve into the region of Kanto for a remake of the original Pocket Monster collecting games. Who are you? Where are my teeth?Join us next time as we return to Planet Zebes but this time for the first time in Smashterpiece #46: Metroid: Zero Mission
"Could I survive long enough to escape?" The Game Boy Advance game library featured many renowned Super Nintendo titles released on a handheld device for a newer and more portable generation. After the success of Metroid Fusion, Nintendo R&D1 opted not to port the beloved Super Metroid, choosing instead to return to 1987's Metroid from the Famicom and NES for inspiration. Not only with the aim of making the original title more accessible, Yoshio Sakamoto and his team also took the opportunity to extend both the plot and the gameplay of the original game with the addition of a Zero Suit Samus. Join Rich, Ryan, Leah and Brian as we discuss the nature of remake, remaster and retelling, and look at the life and times of Samus Aran in Metroid: Zero Mission. http://media.blubrry.com/caneandrinse/caneandrinse.com/podcast/cane_and_rinse_issue_566.mp3 Music featured in this issue: 1. Welcome back to Pursuing Pixels. We've got the whole crew in the house this week, and all sorts of (mostly retro) video gaming goodness to dive into, so let's get rolling!? Randall gets things started by chatting about some recent session with his Analogue Pocket, after finally getting around to digging into Metroid: Zero Mission. From there, Kevin gives a quick shoutout to Samurai Kid, an awesome Game Boy Color puzzle platformer that never made its way over to North America, before leaning into some homebrew NES games from the prolific Matt Hughson. Finally, John closes things out this week on a bit of a 'downer' note, as we dig into the state of advertising in mobile & free-to-play games, and the future of mid-tier development studios. False Advertising. The box advertises Pokémon Light Platinum, Pokémon Crystal, Contra Advance, Mario Party Advance, X-Men: The Official Game, ''Spider-Man 2, Power Rangers Double Pack, Metroid Zero Mission, Donkey Kong Country 3 and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, however none of those games can be found on the cartridge. The box also says "No Repeat", when that is a complete lie as there are several repeats. Some notable repeats include Donkey Kong 3, Gradius, Dr. Mario and Joust. Because the box art only shows GBA games, you would also think there would only be GBA games on the cartridge, when in reality, there are only 22 GBA games and the rest of the games are NES games.

THE YEAR IS 20X5 IN THE HISTORY OF THE COSMOS. The unknown life-form code-named “METROID” discovered by the GALACTIC FEDERATION on Planet SR388 has been stolen by SPACE PIRATES. The greatest of all the space hunters, SAMUS ARAN, has been sent on a one-man mission to penetrate the SPACE PIRATE base on planet ZEBES and destroy METROID before it is transformed into a WEAPON OF MASS DESTRUCTION. Even with his robotic SUPERPOWERS and SPACE SUIT, will he be able to save the galaxy? Meanwhile, in another timeline… The year is 20X5 of the Cosmic Calendar. Space Pirates have seized samples of the incredibly dangerous life-form “Metroid” discovered by the Galactic Federation on planet SR388. In their hands, Metroid could destroy all of galactic civilization. Only the greatest bounty hunter, Samus Aran, is able to penetrate the Space Pirate base on Planet Zebes, her homeworld, once populated by the enigmatic Chozo.
