Moreover, the combination of the intro music, intentional questions, and passionate discussions help create a slower pace and capture the essence of what cabin life/culture truly means.

Today is a special episode, as it's only the second one ever recorded IN PERSON. Rick and Charles are the charming inn keepers at The Hideaway Inn in Camden, Maine. We got to visit during our last trip to Maine, and it did NOT disappoint. After falling in love with New England during their first visit in 2021, this couple made the bold decision to leave their corporate careers on the West Coast and purchase a historic inn in a town they'd only visited a handful of times. What started as a romanticized dream quickly became reality when Charles arrived alone on Valentine's Day to begin renovations on a 1990s-era property that needed significant updating. From running between two separate kitchens during their first season to creating a space that blends the best of Airbnb's independence with an inn's personal touch, Charles and Rick share the realities of their "Hallmark movie" life change. We'll explore how they transformed the property while building deep connections in a tight-knit community, their approach to hosting that deliberately avoids the traditional front desk, and how they navigate working together 24/7 after 18 years as a couple.Whether you're dreaming of your own hospitality venture or simply curious about what happens when two corporate professionals trade boardrooms for breakfast service, this conversation offers both practical insights and heartwarming moments from their journey of creating a space where guests become friends and a house becomes a true hideaway.Website: https://www.hideawayinnmaine.comBooking Site: https://hotels.cloudbeds.com/en/reservation/fXr5m3?currency=usdIG Handle: @hideawaymaineCozy Rock Cabin: https://staycozycabin.holidayfuture.com/listings/311027Cozy Cabin Boone: https://staycozycabin.holidayfuture.com/listings/311026Cozy Camp Sebec: https://staycozycabin.holidayfuture.com/listings/311051Cozy Rock Website: http://www.staycozycabin.comYouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_FgMwAgvORd1IwlH1nlC9g
Today we're welcoming Ina, a 25-year-old chemist and Airbnb host whose riverside cabin in Concrete, Washington offers breathtaking views of the North Cascades. While many episodes focus on the joys of cabin ownership, today's conversation tackles a scenario that keeps many hosts awake at night: what happens when disaster strikes? Ina shares her harrowing experience of receiving a call that her cabin was on fire after guests checked out without extinguishing candles, and the subsequent seven-month battle with Airbnb's AirCover to receive compensation for the damages. From the initial shock and frustration of dealing with defensive guests who refused to acknowledge their role in the incident, to navigating the complexities of insurance claims and restoration work, Ina's story offers valuable lessons for hosts about emergency preparedness, documentation, and maintaining resilience through challenging circumstances. We'll explore how she managed cancellations during the long restoration process, the specific changes she made to prevent future incidents, and why—despite everything—she still finds joy and purpose in hosting.Whether you're a current host concerned about worst-case scenarios or someone considering entering the short-term rental market, this conversation provides both practical advice and emotional reassurance that even in the darkest moments of hosting, recovery is possible. Meet Jennifer, the creative force behind Wisconsin's stunning Pepin Forest Tree House. They sold their car, dipped into retirement savings, and even turned to local investors to bring their vision to life.Drawing from her background in wedding photography and social media marketing, Jennifer transformed their setback into an opportunity. Today, the Pepin Forest Tree House stands as a testament to perseverance, boasting massive windows that replaced the original "tiny, crappy" ones, handcrafted railings made from forest-gathered sticks, and an Instagram following that's helped achieve an impressive 80% direct booking rate.In this episode, we'll dive deep into Jennifer's journey from crisis to success, exploring everything from the nitty-gritty of social media strategy to the delicate dance of being an on-site host. Today's episode is a powerful testament to perseverance and purpose. We're joined by Brie and Dave, the creators of Sweet Briar Ridge in Minnesota, where three geodesic domes offer more than just a unique stay - they provide a sanctuary for healing. As a paramedic and outdoor educator respectively, this couple's journey from vision to reality wasn't just about building a business; it was about creating a space where first responders, veterans, and anyone seeking connection with nature could find peace. What started as a dream in 2017 evolved into a two-year battle with building inspectors, multiple engineering studies, and countless pivots. Through it all, their unwavering commitment to their mission - providing a place where the 'three-day effect' of nature could work its magic - kept them going. Now, with their first season behind them and their third dome under construction, they're seeing firsthand how their perseverance is paying off in the lives of their guests. For anyone thinking about developing a unique property or wondering how to stay true to your mission when faced with seemingly insurmountable obstacles, this conversation offers both practical insights and inspiration. We'll explore everything from navigating small-town politics to creating spaces that prioritize healing over efficiency, and why sometimes the hardest path leads to the most meaningful destination. https://sweetbriarridgemn.com/?fbclid=PAZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAaZk_9Qfckf7tZX62LeqEMKHMyCyvcRSOlJuAsqNXWknR7W2xWJh71hUa0M_aem_sqmIerNxipSij5HCggZeDQINSTAGRAM HANDLES@sweetbriar_ridge@cozyrockcabin@cozycabinboone@cozycampsebecBOOKING SITESSweet Briar Ridge: https://sweetbriarridgemn.com/?fbclid=PAZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAaZk_9Qfckf7tZX62LeqEMKHMyCyvcRSOlJuAsqNXWknR7W2xWJh71hUa0M_aem_sqmIerNxipSij5HCggZeDQCozy Rock Cabin: https://staycozycabin.holidayfuture.com/listings/311027Cozy Cabin Boone: https://staycozycabin.holidayfuture.com/listings/311026Cozy Camp Sebec: https://staycozycabin.holidayfuture.com/listings/311051Cozy Rock Website: http://www.staycozycabin.comBook a Cabin Consultation Here: http://www.staycozycabin.com YouTube Channel: / @cozyrockcabin1664

This episode of the podcast is a bit different, and it's the first time we're doing a thematic episode. Rather than interviewing a cabin host and diving into their story and experience, I have TWO cabin hosts with me (one is a repeat guest, Melissa from Tanglebloom Cabin, and one is a brand new guest, Eman from the Catskill Equestrian Cabin), and together we dive into the theme of contentment. In a world of growth and more doors and scaling and revenue, we're asking ourselves how to know when 'enough is enough'. Is that thing? How do we listen to our guts? How do we run businesses that feel aligned with happiness instead of profits? These might be unanswerable questions, but it felt important to put them into the conversation in the same way we talk about growth. Today we're sharing something a bit different… Spenser and I had planned a podcast on Friday to talk about hospitality, and as the time neared it became clear we couldn't just progress as usual with all that's happening down here in North Carolina. So while we have lots of friends who host here in the mountains of North Carolina that I would have loved to jump on, we planned this very last minute and had Jandy, from Out of Bound Retreats, jump on so we could pivot and talk about all that's happened in the past week. I will note, that by the time airs, some of what we discussed may have changed, we might have more information… this is not meant to be a news podcast. Just real time conversation around what we're seeing, what we're hearing, what we're doing, and what we're struggling with. Thanks, as always, for joining us

On this episode of the Cabin Culture podcast we get to chat with Emily Padan from hinter. Emily, along with her husband Mauricio, started and run this incredible cabin company based out of Montreal, Canada. It all began with Mauricio's first cabin, which found immediate success once they began hosting and sharing it with others. From there they began to dream a little bigger, and think about how to create more experiences similar to this one, to allow others to really experience the impact of slowing life down and spending time in nature. Since then they've built several more cabins, and host other cabins under their brand. What was most notable in talking to Emily was her crystal clear focus on their brand, what it represents, and how to consistently communicate it via their website, copy and imagery. Because this is a particularly daunting challenge for a lot of cabin owners, Emily has a ton of wisdom to share on how you can reflect on your own brand, and start consistently communicating it to future and past guests. This episode is a love story. An interesting one, but a love story nonetheless. Amanda is a fascinating guest, who played D1 basketball, taught PE for over 10 years, founded a dating app, met her future business partner on IG, and then moved to a small town in Wyoming to renovate an old motel. What might have begun as a great investment opportunity turned into a love affair with the town of Greybull, the people and community there, and with renovation. Plus she's documented it all online, with literally a reel a day since she started renovating showing everything she's doing, totally solo! I'll admit, this episode is less about cabins specifically, and more an excuse for me to talk to the human behind one of my favorite IG accounts on the internet (@justdoitamanda), but I will say I think you all are going to enjoy it just as much as I did, and learn a ton along the way. I'm so excited for you to meet Amanda (if you don't know her already), and live vicariously through her bold, ambitious, and inspiring adventure. Summary:Susan and Boris, founders of Lumen Camps, share their journey from a honeymoon road trip to building a successful hospitality brand. They started with a 20-year-old Land Cruiser and a rooftop tent, traveling from Boston to Argentina, and documenting their adventures along the way. When they returned, they decided to explore the short-term rental industry and began with one property. As their rental properties grew, they were forced to focus on automation and building a remote team in order to manage them all successfully. While many of you only manage one property, thinking through efficiencies can be super helpful in not only making life easier but also improving guest experience. The Lumen brand is their next venture, centered around connecting with nature and finding happiness in simple experiences. Susan and Boris acquired a campground surrounded by water on three sides and transformed it into Lumen, a unique glamping destination with a combination of glamping tents, small cabins, and the nicest campground bathroom I've ever seen in my life. Join us to hear about how it came to be, how they've grown it, and how they've created a unique camping experience for folks escaping the craziness of city, and everyday, life.Instagram@lumencamps@cozyrockcabin@cozycabinboone@cozycampsebecBooking SitesLumen Camps: https://www.stayatlumen.com/Cozy Rock Cabin: Tiny home in Freeport · ★5.0 · 2 bedrooms · 2 beds · 1 bathCozy Cabin Boone: Cabin in Boone · ★4.96 · 3 bedrooms · 5 beds · 3 bathsCozy Camp Sebec: Cottage in Dover-Foxcroft · ★4.98 · 4 bedrooms · 5 beds · 2 bathsYouTube Channel: / @cozyrockcabin1664Cozy Rock Website * Cozy Rock Cabin * Book a Cabin Consultation HereCozy Rock CabinChapters08:36Entering the Short-Term Rental Industry and Building a Portfolio15:47Balancing Automation and Personal Touchpoints37:54Creating Personalized Guest Experiences53:28Defining the Essence of a Cabin
