Engine swap, aero repackage, electronic overhaul and a switch to slicks are some of the major changes the legendary Hammerhead has seen during its transformation into what is an essentially new build in many respects, Tanuki.Use ‘PODCAST75' for $75 off your first HPA course here: https://hpcdmy.co/hpa-tuned-inDavid Lenthall of GT Auto Garage discusses the 4.1L VR38DETT engine swap, which sees the venerable 900hp (approx) SR20VET retired in favour of more power (1080hp at 25 PSI) with less stress, but at the cost of some extra weight, 4% more of which is now over the front axle. The Autronic ECU was replaced with a suite of MoTeC electronics largely due to the preference of owner Wayne Lee and those now running the car, including MoTeCs torque management options via their GPR package. Also replaced is the iconic aero package with Andrew Brilliant AMB Aero engineering an infinity wing package for the car in part to update it and in part to help further establish it as something different. With the help of tyre rule changes allowing slicks, Pro driver Tim Slade has Tanuki now down to 1:20.4560 with more in the tank after a wheel failure took them out of the competition for this year. For some more insight into the history of this car, previous drivers include Shane Van Gisbergen, Earl Bamber, Warren Luff & Andre Heimgartner, with Tim Slade winning the Pro Class back to back in 2016 and 2017 among stiff competition.

1200HP, 42PSI, 2.2L 4G63, Tilton Interiors time attack legend, redux. After multiple lap records and back to back wins, owner, Pro-Am class driver and passionate time attack supporter Kosta Pohorukov and the infamous Tilton Interiors EVO IX V1 met an untimely end on track. While tragic, the incident that left the old chassis a write off enabled Trent Murphy of TM Automotive and others involved to use the winning formula on a new chassis and add all that extra knowledge they had learnt along the way to do it better.Want to learn how to EFI tune? Start with some free lessons right here: hpcdmy.co/tunebThe result was a keen focus on weight reduction, slight aero improvements care of Voltex Racing and after the chassis was completed by Riverside Racing, an incredible 3 month build time in order to make it to the World Time Attack Challenge before heading to Tsukuba in Japan, the home of time attack. With the car producing upwards of 3000kg of downforce, it is no surprise keeping the class spec tyres intact is an issue and an RF tyre delamination saw the team finishing the event early due to damage, but still walking away with 3rd place in the Pro Class with Garth Walden at the wheel, and 1st in Pro-Am via Kosta himself. The EVO 9's 4G63 retains its cast block as at around 1200HP it doesn't give them any issues producing 1200HP from a 2.2L capacity. The Emtron ECU and MoTeC PDM and dash display/logger control the engine and a myriad of sensors which ensure engine reliability as well as helping dial in aero and suspension setups to get the most out of the car. A Hollinger 6 speed sequential helps get the power to the ground and while Trent didn't give any specific numbers, the torque split has been adjusted to ensure the car turns into corners easily, as well as maintaining traction when the noise pedal is used on the exit. Also discussed is the new BorgWarner EFR 9280 turbo which hits a max boost of around 42PSI and 116,000RPM and its advantages over the old EFR 9180, the importance of packers, bump rubber and getting your spring rates right, using Nitrous and why the MIVEC system is retained. Also touched on is the difficulty of reducing weight when so much strength is needed to handle downforce with the tradeoff being the weight is placed as low as possible to improve handling.

Josh Roper is having a breakout season. Josh is riding the Pro Class in the US NATC Championship and currently sitting 2nd overall with one round to go this weekend. He won the California Trials Invitational earlier this year and he's just back from the USA TdN team who were agonisingly close to a podium, and also rode the world rounds preceding the TdN event in the Trial 2 class. None of this should be a surprise. Josh is from Trials Royalty in the USA, starting with his Dad Todd who rode the Pro class in the 80's and his brother Bryan who finished a high of 2nd place in 2013. We interviewed his Dad Todd about 1 year ago on episode 43.In addition to this we hear how current pro riders like Daniel Blanc-Gonnet have taken him under their wing when he was riding the Expert class and helped him build up to the rider he is now. We also discuss his progress through the ranks, #vanlife and how he has been spending his summer, and what his routine looks like. We also discuss ambitions for Europe and how the USA 'pay it forward' approach to rider development is now seeing Josh run schools for juniors where he can. It was a real treat to chat with Josh and I'd like to thank him for making time to do this podcast. Ladies and gentleman, I give you my chat with Josh Roper. Today's episode is a special one, we are focusing on getting the most performance out of your jet ski using tricks and tips from one of the best in the business, 2020 Vintage Class World Champion Wyland Reden! We've saved some of his top engine and handling tips for this episode to help you get ready for the World Finals! If you want to race with the best in the sport or just enjoy riding with your friends more, this episode is for you! YOUR JET SKI 01:00 So tell us about your ski: dual 46 carbs, reverse jets that's tuned well, west coast cylinder with hand done porting, Kaufmann full pipe, for a good top and bottom end. Full length, hand ported intake manifold. 03:15 What head do you use and under what compression? West Coast head at 195 compression, 200 and over just damaged the engine. 04:40 We use a normal but lightweight crank. 04:50 We replace the PJS pistons every 6 months of racing. 05:30 Waterbox and exhaust. 06:24 Pump: I use a Rhaas 750 conversion kit bored to almost 800 with a big swirl prop, impellers at a high angle as well as an 800 pump nozzle that automatically drops as you turn. 07:17 We have settled on a flat ride plate extended 3 inches out and size 21 rings. 08:10 Top end vs low end performance. 08:44 Advice for people getting into the 550 class. 09:21 It has become necessary to have a 750 pump to be competitive. 10:36 What did you use before the 750 pump? 12:00 It's very difficult to weld anything onto a ride plate. 13:08 We use 2 washers on the ride plate to angle it slightly down. 14:25 How do you fill the gaps between the ride plate and the hull?. 15:14 That's a good way to stop the ski from bouncing around too much. TOP SPEED 15:43 They used to use a radar gun on the back straight to measure top speed, how do you measure it today? We use the GPS data from a GoPro, a phone as well as using a radar gun. 17:09 Your highest ever speed on a 550: 56mph. 18:24 You have to choose between acceleration and top speed. 19:12 Picture of Jeff Jacobs going 57mph. 20:15 Top speed run:what intake grate do you use? Rhaas top loader. FUEL 22:02 How much do you put in? ¾ tank. 23:43 Which fuel do you use? VP 110 Racing Fuel that is kept super cold. PREP FOR RACE 24:30 What is your process of prep to get ready for the start line with your holder? 26:43 What do you do on the line to get your jet ski ready for the race? 30:48 How do you prepare yourself for the start of the race? 30:39 Reading the conditions and mentally preparing. 34:38 Troubles in the season: narrowly avoiding a fire. 36:26 I turn on the bilge pump at the last minute because it uses battery power. 38:13 Ignition system and flywheels, don't play with reverse magnets. GET READY TO RACE 39:48 Why do you rev before the race? To clear the water. 40:47 How to time the start. 42:26 I prefer the inside split, it's tighter and shorter. My ski turns sharply or not at all. PRIZE MONEY IN RACING 44:05 No money in the US but some good cash prizes overseas like in Thailand. 45:08 My team is a big part of my racing. 47:00 Did you see Harry Goatcher and Jeff Jacobs? PLANS FOR NEXT YEAR 47:57 I won't leave the 550's but I'm moving to the Pro Class. 49:42 We are trying to start a stock spec class, no modifications and far cheaper. 53:31 There's something special when you go back to how things used to be.

WE'RE BACK! And with a special episode of the Digging Deep ATVMX Podcast! This is the story of a guy battling and beating now-legend, Joel Hetrick, for a Pro Am Championship, and then continuing that battle the following season as the duo made their rookie debuts in the Pro Class. As an AMA ATV Pro Class rookie, this rider grabbed a handful of top five finishes, finished on the podium multiple times, won a pro moto, and battled for the win at the season finale – but as quickly as he entered professional ATV racing, he was gone. He went from battling for wins as a rookie in 2011, to absent from the series in 2012 and beyond. And as you'll hear him say, he sometimes wonders "what if", just like many ATV motocross fans still do to this day. This is the story of Chase Snapp! He tells us how he found himself wrenching for two legends, takes us underneath the Wienen Motorsports tent and inside the walls at Baldwin, gives us the best insight yet into the Pro Stock debacle, and more. Lastly, Aaron Salinas drops by to tell us about his up and down weekend at High Point. This star-in-the-making won his first ever Pro Am moto on the same weekend that he found himself at the center of one of the gnarliest wrecks in recent memory. HERE IT IS! We are so stoked to roll out this star-studded episode, one I think may be our most informative and insightful show to date! With his back up against the wall, Joel Hetrick rose to the occasion and completed a perfect day at Lake Sugar Tree. The defending champ joins the podcast to talk about his weekend, the imminent battle between himself and Chad Wienen with just 5 motos remaining, and we even discuss his stint racing the Pro Stock class earlier this season – which is quite the hot button topic! Then former pro rider turned Team Nine6Nine frontman Travis Moore joins the show to talk about what is probably the second biggest story coming out of Virginia. His rider, Pro Class rookie Logan Stanfield, put the ATV racing world on notice with his first career Pro Class top 5 finish at Lake Sugar Tree, and with how passionate Travis is it makes for a truly great listen! Next, we welcome Thomas Brown back to the podcast following his 50th career Pro Class podium, and we'll discuss that but there's a much bigger topic to cover with TBrown. He recently announced that he'd be retiring at the end of this season, so we'll dig deep into that decision with the 12-year-pro. Finally, Max Lindquist won 6 consecutive events on his way to being crowned Pro Am National Champion at Lake Sugar Tree. We bring the freshly crowned 16-year-old rising star on to talk about his season and get some insight into when we can expect to see him make his professional debut. Nick made his return to the track after a seven-year hiatus, so we talk about that and go in-depth about his racing career. He was so pumped to join the show and it made for one of our favorite segments we've ever done here on the podcast. Our third guest is a gentleman who adores the sport for many reasons including: freedom, inclusion, treatment, and more. Todd Macke was born with Cerebral Palsy, but after 33 years riding ATVs, it's safe to say that his condition didn't stop him from becoming a well-known member of the ATV community. Listen as he tells his amazing story, talks current racing, and fills us in on his weekend at RedBud! Lastly, Ryan Smith finishes things off by giving us an early look at Lake Sugar Tree. The owner is preparing to host his first ever ATV national, and you'll be excited to head to Virginia after hearing from him. Current racing talk, stories of the past, good laughs, conversations about life, and more – you'll find a little bit of everything in this episode! Some of you have said that our podcast coverage is your favorite way to stay up to date with what happens at the races, so we're back with yet another race review podcast – this one from the most recent ATV motocross national at Pleasure Valley Raceway! We'll cover all that happened in what was a crazy weekend for the AMA ATV Pro Class, as well as cover some other notables from the weekend in PA. Listen as Bryce Ford joins the show fresh off his first career podium. After all the emotion he showed at the races, now a week later, it's awesome to hear him describe everything he was feeling. He takes us inside his helmet as he talks about his day, we also get into the strides he's taken with his fitness since joining The Program, and so much more. Bryce is such a great interview and he never seems to disappoint; this time is no different! Lastly, fellow Pro Class rookie stand-out Troy Hill joins the podcast following his three consecutive top 10 finishes. Troy talks about what it's like racing against his idols, his season so far, where he thinks he can be with some better starts, and more. Troy and Cody have some history being around one another, making for an enjoyable listening experience! Gears and Beers: The Unashamedly Unprofessional Automotive Podcast
We are back for episode 121! This week we're once again joined by Ben from Pencil's Ballercast, and later we're joined by Michael 'Tresy' Trew, however, he just yells things from the couch. We start off talking about go-karting as we're going to Matt's bucks next weekend, before we talk a bit about the Gold Coast 600 Supercar race, with Chaz Mostert and Scott McLaughlin both binning their Mustangs in qualifying. Joseph then talks about his plans to run his GT86 in WTAC in 2021, and what'll be required for him to meet the requirements to compete, we then tangent a bit to talking about Hyundai and their foray into WTAC with the Drift Bus iMax and their actual time-attack i30N. We then actually talk about World Time Attack Challenge 2019, and the issues surrounding the Yokohama tyres that don't appear to be handling the greater and greater loads that the Pro-Class players are putting the tyres under. Matt then drops a bombshell on all of us. We then pretty much just talk absolute nonsense for the rest of the episode, so if you're into that, you'll enjoy the rest of this episode!
