This week, Pastor Brad wraps up our study of The Lords Prayer. We explore why following Jesus guidance is essential and where following our own desires can lead us. We also uncover why some familiar words in the prayer might not always be there! 3 TakeawaysGod doesnt tempt usHe helps us escapeTemptation starts in us, so we need God to lead usFollowing Jesus leads to life, not destruction Question For ReflectionIn what areas of my life am I following my own desires instead of seeking Gods leading?Ask God to reveal how I can invite Him to guide me toward life and freedom. What does it take to make you happy? Can you think of the last time you felt a sense of contentment or that you viewed your life with a sense of appreciation simply from watching the sunrise?Today I want to introduce you to Marco, Marco is just such a person. As a photographer and lover of times in nature, Marco is one that truly takes each moment for the joy it holds.I met Marco a few years ago in Mexico and on this past trip I got to do my scuba dive course with him; we got to learn from our friend and instructor Fonsi, and I got to see even more of who I already knew Marco to beMarco and I chat about how we can often as humans push or expect so much of ourselves, how taking things one action, or one decision at a time can so often lead to less anxiety and a chance to see where life will take usHe shares how taking small steps has led him to where he is and what he does, how he values being a friend and having space to still explore who and what he will do with lifeMarco is one that means what he says, one that values connection with others, one that will stay in touch with you no matter where you are in the world, and one that will do what he can to support those in his lifeMarco is a genuine soul and one I'm truly honored to get to share with you today To tune in and meet Marco, a human that wants to remind you to take life as it comes to “roll with the current” and appreciate the beauty in every single moment And to you Marco thank you, thank you for allowing me to share a part of your story with others, for being a source of sincerity and kindness in this world, and for being a fantastic scuba partner. Excited to see where life continues to take you and all the beautiful things you are yet to create

It is in the spirit that we qualify our relationship with the Lord. You can't have a relationship with God without the spiritThe Holy ghost is not the lesser part of the trinityThere are no 3 distinct godsThere is only one and he expresses himself in 3 persons(Father, Son and Holy spirit)Jesus began our faith on the crossWhen he left he sent the spirit and he will continue with us till we meet him on the last dayYour relationship with God cannot be driven by performanceYou can't really impress God, he's bigger and mightier than us.If God looks at you with Favour, celebrate him for itThe Jealousy of God is seen in the fact that he keeps his ownHe keeps you from falling, he protects you, and you must serve him aloneThe only way you can see real success is relying in the SpiritWe need the Holy ghost especially for reassurance of salvationHe gave you the spirit so that you know that he's with you and he's holding youIf God judges with thoughts, words and deeds then none of us can standBut the spirit gives us our reassurance that we can stand... just by believingWhen we believed he sealed us with the spirit because we now belong to himAnd the spirit is the down payment of our inheritanceGod hates sin and for that Jesus dies for usFor our sakeOur flesh is prone to sin and when we do Jesus Christ is there for usHe's called the Holy Spirit because he's Holy and he makes you holyYou don't need to be Holy to have himJust believe and seek him

The Apostle Peter wrote the letter we call 1 Peter while persecution against Christians was simmering in and around ancient Rome. He wanted his readers to be prepared for hard things to come, and he sought to prepare them by reminding them of their identity as the chosen people of God, living as exiles in a world of suffering. We continue our series in 1 Peter looking at 1 Peter 1:10-12.“Blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear. For truly, I say to you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.” - Matthew 13:16-17None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one. - Romans 3:10-12If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. - 1 John 1:8If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. - 1 John 1:9Four Amazing Things About Our Salvation:Christ predicted itThe prophets longed to understand itThe angles still long to look into itThe Holy Spirit brings it to usHe was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all. - Isaiah 53:5-6Life Church exists to glorify God by making disciples who treasure Christ, grow together, and live on mission. And I'm so excited for you to meet my friend and colleague, recent graduate, working in the therapeutic field, also a pastor. Um, and you know, we're gonna touch on the fact that this is this stereotypical Latinx heritage month. But, you know, it is really important for us to take up some space and to give voice, uh, give opportunities to talk about what, what mental health means for our community, and really wanna be celebrating this all year round. And that's gonna be intentional as well. But, you know, here we're jumping in with this wonderful woman. So listen in and, uh, looking forward to the conversation. You know, I'm so impressed with like, your work, and I know just bits and pieces from Instagram and a lot from, like, the feeling I had when I was with you mm-hmm. . Yeah. So I'm excited for your journey and hear what you're hearing, what you're up to, and you know where you've come from. So I don't know where you wanna go or how you wanna open up talking about that, butJacqueline (01:26):Basic things. Um, Okay. Um, me number is jacking Bon. Um, and I was born in El Sal la moved to the US specifically directly to Minnesota. Um, when I was 11 years old, um, my parents, you know, my dad came to California during the Civil War, El Salvador, and, you know, he learned his English and like work in restaurants and he has shared with us that he didn't like the fast pace of the us So he went back and then got married with my mom and had my older brother and I. Um, so he has always, um, fought to be in our country. And it is interesting because he kind of lost the opportunity to become a US citizen, because after he left the amnesty in the eighties, um, so all my uncles who stayed are US citizens, and he's kind of like the only one who was not able to become an, I mean, he planned not to come back to the USHe, we, I mean, my dad always, and my mom worked hard to be business owners and just like, you know, do the best they can. Um, but I remember in the, we moved here 2000. In 2000, I just remember my dad saying like, We have too many debt. Um, we have to go to the us. And my mom was, my mom has always traveled. So, um, so my dad, when he moved, when he moved back in the eighties and he went back, he actually, uh, went to school to become a pilot. So he was a taxi, what they call, um, and when he got married with my mom, he was still like finishing his like license and all that. And, um, he's saw his plane to buy us a house. Um, so then he started like, Okay, I have to do business. And so we were, um, lucky enough to have visas since we were little because my dad, um, so we will come like for vacation and see like California and like Maryland and Washington, where we have, uh, family as well.So then my mom was a be a head, I don't know if you ever heard this term before, but my mom will travel every month to bring tamales, , you know, all the, the good stuff that you couldn't find here. And my mom will bring back things that people wanted to, you know, send their relatives, like computers, perfumes, Nikes, FIAs, and all those things that, um, anyways, so my mom was ara like every month. And my dad was at home, you know, like with the business in El Salor, but in 2000, before 2000, he's like, We have to go, we have a lot of debt. And, um, so I was 11. My brother was, he's three years older than me, so he was 14, 15. Um, and yeah, we moved to Minnesota and it's crazy because a year after, so, you know, we have to kind of learn English and all the stuff that, you know, um, a year after I was in school and learning English, I was diagnosed with cancer, um, arrived on my sarcoma. And, um, I don't know, we see, we, we see it now as there was a plan for us to come to Minnesota, You know, just having the Mayo Clinic and having like good medical assistant here. Um, and the type of cancer that I had was so rare, so rare, um, for a girl, my, for a girl my age. And, you know, it was such a blessing. Now we see like, okay, like maybe my parents never wanted to come, but I don't know if I would've been alive if I was an else because of, um, just, just the, what's the word that I'm looking for? Um, how advanced science isn't here mm-hmm. than in our country. Um, but it was, it was such a good place to be at that moment. Um, and here I am years later, um, you know, I feel like I've finished learning English at the hospital. So it's been, it's been a journey. It's been a journey because my mom, so when we moved months later, the earthquake in El Salor occur and we were granted the TPS status, so the temporary permit status. So my dad had that, my older brother and me, um, my mom kept her visa because we still had the house over there and relatives that my mom was taken care of. So while I was being treated with chemotherapy and surgeries and all that, my mom stayed a couple times and had to go back just to keep her visa. And in one of those trips, she was not able to return looking enough for me. Um, I was like finishing my treatment, um, because she was the person with me in the hospital. Like, I don't remember my dad staying with me, but my mom was there with me. Um, and then that's how kind of my family got separated. And I have two younger siblings who were born in the US so they ended up being with my mom because they were younger. And my dad, my older brother and I stayed here. Um, so,Danielle (07:33):So a forced family separation? Uh, almost like in the last, And when's the last time you saw your mom?Jacqueline (07:44):2003.It's been a long time.Danielle (07:50):Yeah. I mean, I feel the pain, even as I say, the year.Jacqueline (07:53):Yeah. It, it's been a long, long time. No, it was just, um, just cancel. And, you know, she was traveling with my younger sister. We actually had to do some like, healing stuff with her because she remembers mom crying. She was like four years old. She was born in the us Um, she's like 10 years younger than me, and she just remembered that, you know, immigration brought her to the office, interrogated her, and she's like, You're not able to return with your family, you have to go back.So my sister, yeah, just remember like crying for crying because my mom was crying but not understanding what was going on. Um, but until this day, she is one of the most, like, she feels the pain of me not being able, cuz I'm now, I'm like the only one who hasn't seen my mom mm-hmm. , because my brother got married and he was, you know, just blessed to receive his papers through the, through her, his wife. And, but like, he has, after 16 years, he was able to see my mom, but I haven't, And my sister is like the one of those that she's like, I'm broken. Every time I go, I celebrate like seeing my parents, but at the same time I'm broken because you're not able to. Um, so yeah. But it's, it's hard.Danielle (09:32):I mean, and what's hard is like, I think, and you know, you're a therapist now too. We work with people and, you know, they have traumas around family or friends or mm-hmm. loss or coworker mm-hmm. , you know, there's the list of traumas and in, in some of these traumas, like, it's like how do you address them? How do you address the injustice? But in this situation, it's systemic trauma mm-hmm. and systemic harm that separated your family and separated you from your loved ones. So in a sense, I just feel that powerlessness of like, Hey, I'm gonna shout at the wind mm-hmm. , and if I make too much noise against the system, it's the same system. I need to accept me mm-hmm. so I can have what I need to see my family. So it's, it's a bind.Jacqueline (10:22):Yeah. And now that I'm a therapist, that I see those cases and hear those stories too. Not, not that I, you know, but I can see the trauma that it causes a childYou know, and how families take, because unfortunately this is so normal in our communities that people don't see it, don't stop to hold the, the pain, the grief that comes with it. Mm-hmm.You know, people just like, you just have to keep going, like keep working and keep like living life. And I'm like, now when I see clients and I feel how this has traumatized them and increase their anxiety level depression and all those things I'm seeing, like, how have I, like not even I stopped to think about mm-hmm. all the things that I was feeling, you know, and that were caused because of thatUm, or to my siblings who were younger or to my parents who had, you know, no, say no, no power to do anything. Um, so yeah. It's, it's crazy just to think about all the things that this can cost. You know, things like this separation in the family. And it is happening as we speak.Danielle (11:53):Right. As we speak, it's still happening and it's, you know, it's ongoing for your family. It's ongoing for parts of my family. And, and like I said, there's the, uh, one of my brother-in-laws is demanded to ask forgiveness from the US government before he can return. And he didn't, he didn't do anything except for like go to work, you know? Mm-hmm. . And, uh, and I know that as people are listening, they were like, that's enough, but you don't understand. Right. The whole background to that. And so even the idea of asking forgiveness to a government mm-hmm.For feeding yourself or feeding your family mm-hmm.Jacqueline (12:35):And for my mom was for taking care of me. Cause I was, you know, Cause they give you a period of time and then she was leaving right before, right before. And even just telling the immigration officer about, I have a daughter who has been diagnosed with cancer, she's in treatment. Um, you know, what, what was she doing? You know, just working, taking care of her family mm-hmm. . Um, but yeah.Danielle (13:09):Yeah. And just the punishment for that. Mm-hmm.I, I, again, like you only share what you want too, but I just, I'm noting that part of your journey is to embark on healing. Not, not just like your body, like healed in your body, like from the cancer, whatever, but like this sense of like, there's hope for healing for this kind of trauma. And I'm just kind of curious like, what, what prompted you to get into counseling or therapy? LikeJacqueline (13:47):You know, everything started when God was bringing me the attention of listening. Well, like, he's like, you have to learn how to listen. And I even wrote my thesis about this, like listening to myself, listening to my body, listening to him, listening to what people are saying. And one of the things that I got from that was, there's like, there's healing and freedom when you're listen. Well, when somebody listens with a heart, with, you know, um, going to school. I've learned that this moment when, when we are with the clients, this is the holy place, the holy moment. Right. We kind of like the Moses on the bush on the burning bush moment of taking my shoes out because I'm taking myself out and, and kind of arriving to your where you are and listening. Right. And I just remember like, just having those moments of like, of quiet and just listening. And I don't know, I just started like listening more. I like to talk, love to talk more than listen, but God was just like giving me that desire to like, learn how to listen and listen well, don't just listen to understand, but listen to not just listen to respond, but listen to understand. And working in, in the campus ministry at Bethel, um, I started just listening to people and people were so attracted to come and me with me instead of the pastors. You know, I was not a pastor at that time, but, you know, I, I was like, okay, I feel like this is my calling to listen to people. How can I, you know, learn that and educate myself more on that. And, um, my, my dad also has been suffering from depression. So when he, he was separated with my mom for four years and a half and he decided to go back and that was like the first time that he was like, he got a, a breakdown like mental health and like, just being like moving, you know, like being here for so long and then moving back.Um, and just all the family, like he had, he knew that he, when he left, he was not able to return. Right. You know, and having a business and then starting over over there. It was just so many things. So my dad was diagnosed with depression and anxiety and went through like heart moments and just for us was just like a matter of understanding. Right. We knew, we grew up listening to his stories about how he grew up and everything that he went through, he always been open about it. Mm-hmm. , you know, the hard things, the good things. Um, but part of that was also like understanding like, I need to understand more what this means. And working with the pastors and working with college students helped me like, okay, maybe this is something that I wanna do. And that's how I like got into it.And when I'm learning about the basic skills, I'm like, the Holy Spirit already told me this stuff, you know, how to listen well, how to like in be in tune with people's emotions and like, um, so for me was just like a confirmation of, okay, this is what I'm supposed to be doing. Once I started learning and seeing the systemic, you know, as a marriage and family therapy, you see the system, you see mm-hmm. how it's not just about the client, but it's about how the parents, you know, we're parenting this child and how it has affected and it still affects us as an adult. Like mm-hmm. , everything. You know. So that's how I, and I, I feel like my husband can tell you, I felt like this program was for me first. Yeah. I always took it as I was like, in this, in therapy, like I did, took therapy cuz they told us like, go to therapy because this is going to trigger some of the things like from family of, and, and I just remember like some of the classes I was like driving home balling and crying and crying and my, my husband's like, What happened? What did they did to you? What, what? And I'm like, Just gimme a moment. Just gimme a moment. And so I feel like all those three years were just like, first for me, you know? And also receiving therapy and like, talking about my family of origin and things that have been going on. Um, it was really helpful. And then couples therapy and, you know, it's, but it's, it's been a good journey to, to do, I've done a lot of healing. Of course I'm not done because, you know, the stronger parts of me are like, okay, this part is ready, let's move to this next one. And I think, I think that's how God works. He's not, you know, the Bible says like he's gonna finish the work until he comes back. So we're this working progress. Um, it's not gonna be all at once. Um, because he's putting, he's making those parts of us stronger for those parts that are still mm-hmm. , um, bleeding that we don't know of Right. In our soul or memories or things that we don't even know that are hurting us, but they areDanielle (19:24):So I mean, that's really beautiful and I can definitely relate to going to therapy during grad school and uh, or like, and coming home and telling Louise, we're doing this all wrong. Like all of it is wrong or we're not okay. And just be like, Can you just, can you just take a deep breath because we can't, we can't accomplish all of this in one moment. Right. Yeah. But I think, I love that picture that you talked about, like, I've been doing a little research on s and like the method of healing in la Latin America, specifically in Mexico, and just this idea that there's this alignment between your heart and your mind and your soul. Mm-hmm. , like you're, and when you're in alignment, that's a place where you're listening from mm-hmm. and I You didn't say that, but that's what I heard mm-hmm. , that, that alignment is, it's already in you that desire to be aligned, that alignment and that those people when you were a campus pastor recognize that mm-hmm. and we're like gravitating towards, towards you in that space. Mm-hmm. .Jacqueline (20:35):Yeah. Yeah. It, it is just, but it, but it takes moments of listening to yourself mm-hmm. listening to it. The whole thing of listening has been an ongoing theme in the last five years for me. Like list learning how to listen to myself, my limits as a human being of resting, of why do I get mad for certain things so quickly? Why do I get irritated? Why, you know, those listening to my emotions, listening to my body, um, and then listening to God and listening to other people. Mm-hmm. , um, you know,Danielle (21:15):What, what do you tell someone that comes, and I know sometimes therapy can be stigmatized in communities of color. Like what do you say to people that come and be like, I don't need therapy, I'm gonna be fine. Or like, that's crazy. Like, you're making things worse. Like, what do you say to kind of like some of those initial defenses towards therapy?Jacqueline (21:39):I mean, I that's such a good question. I could just take it back to, I've always say it's not because people think, right? People think that you have to go to therapy because you're crazy. You're having Right. You're hearing words that are not, you're hearing people say something, you're seeing things and you know, and I I I just tell them, you know, sometimes we just need somebody who's not from our family to listen to us. And while we're talking, we're processingAnd we can hear ourselves without being judged because people are just listening carefully to us. You know, that, that's such a, everybody needs somebody to, to listen to them. Mm-hmm. , we, we desired that. We desire to be known to be understood mm-hmm. in therapy. That's kind of like the basic things right. That we learn. It's just somebody listening to, with nonjudgmentalUnderstanding your perspective. That's kind of like the goal. So I feel like this is just, if your husband's not listening to you, if your wife is not listening to you, if you don't have friends who can listen to you, if your parents aren't listening to you, like just go to therapy. You don't have to be crazy to, you know, or be diagnosed with something, butI think we all have that desire to be heard and understoodUm, that, that will be my simple thing that I'll say.Danielle (23:07):And I hear, you talked a lot about how your faith really aligns with, you know, being a therapist and how do you, how does that come into play when you're with clients?Jacqueline (23:21):It reminds me to the book of Esther, who, I don't know if you read the book of Esther, but the book of Esther doesn't mention God at all, but he's present. And as a person who believes that the Holy Spirit is in me and he works through me, sometimes even I'm not even knowing that he's working through me. Sometimes I can sense, you know, but mm-hmm. , I, I don't necessarily, like at the, at the clinic where I'm at right now, I don't necessarily work with as a Christian therapist. Mm-hmm. , um, people, some people, not my clients, but my supervisors and some coworkers know that I am a pastor too. Um, but I, I know, and one of my professors actually told me this, like, you can, you can work with God, you can work with the Holy Spirit. Nobody has to knowHe just, he will just prompt you those questions about, talk about the grandparents, and all of a sudden this big thing comes from the family origin mm-hmm. that the client's side is just click in my head and you know, that who prompt you that question or, you know mm-hmm. . So that's kind of like how I see it. Um, and always thinking about the best, the best, um, what's the word I'm looking for? Um, like the best outcome for them, right? The, the healing, the, the connecting the dots that they didn't know. Um, so just thinking about that, not necessarily like, but like, just thinking how the best outcome for the client. Does that makes sense?Danielle (25:10):Yeah. I think what I hear is you're loving people really well.Like, you're giving a piece of yourself and in a nonjudgmental way. And it's more like an invitation. What I hear in, in like, in like, kind of like my, like learning therapeutically. Like you're inviting them to their own story so they can listen to themselves and, and,Jacqueline (25:34):And they can find their own answers.Yeah. They can, They, I think that's, I think I read that. I don't even know where like, the good therapist will help you, will help you, you find your own answers. It's not that I have the answers, but you will, something will click in your mind, you will know, Oh, this is connected with how my dad raised me. You know, things like that. And find they have the answer. They just, we're just getting all the things out of them.Danielle (26:08):A lot of what I hear too, and like, you can tell me if this is true or not. Like I hear like a lot of hospitalityLot of welcome. Which feels very cultural. Right.Jacqueline (26:19):I was just gonna say that is just like the Latino way, like the Salvador way. Like it's, it's, and I remember even in one of our professors saying like, we have to be hospitable even in our, in a way of thinking and how we receive ideas and how we receive views of people. You know, but it is, it is a hospital way of like,Danielle (26:44):Again? Can you say that again? That was good. Like, we have to be, how did you say it?Jacqueline (26:48):We have to be hospitable in the way we think and the, how we receive the views of others and the perspectives, you know, because hospitable, you always think about, Oh, I'm welcoming you, um, you know, to the cafe. Like, here's this chair. Like, are you comfortable? Are you feeling good in this space? But in therapy, it's about the ideas and the views of people and what they bring, right? And receiving that as, Oh yeah, I receive that. I, I receive it as, you knowEven if it's different.Danielle (27:28):Yeah. I get that feeling even right now in this moment. Like, there's so much invitation to be curious mm-hmm. . Mm-hmm. . That's really beautiful.Jacqueline (27:38):Yeah. Just, just learning.Danielle (27:41):So if someone like, wants to get ahold of you or find you as a therapist, as a pastor, like how do they do that?Jacqueline (27:53):Well, um, they can go to a great lake Psychological services. That's where I work. Um, if they're looking for a therapist, um, and as a pastor, they can just go to our Instagram speaking to Santo Minneapolis and that's it. Or look me up, Mrs. I like, I like my two last names. That's such a Latino thing. People try to like, oh, I don't like, I like my two names and my two last names, you know? And now when I graduated, I went back to using my full name because it was a thing like, when you come to the US first, you don't know the language. And I discovered like, why did I change my name from Jacqueline to Jackie? Mm. It was because teachers will tell me, you know, when I started going to school, sixth grade, Can we call you Jackie? And I didn't know how to respond. I'm like, Okay. You know, I didn't know how, I didn't know English, so I didn't know how like no, my name is Jacqueline, not Jacqueline, not Jackie, Jacqueline. You know, So when I graduated and I started working, I'm like, I'm gonna go back to my given name, Jacqueline. You know? So now I'm trying my best to say that because a lot of people in our community already know me as Jackie, but at work is Jacqueline.Danielle (29:11):Yeah. . Yeah. I lo I love, I love that you're reclaiming your name and then so much meaning and purpose. And that's so much of what you're inviting your clients to, right? Yeah.Yeah. Thank you for being with me today.Jacqueline (29:33):Yeah, no, thank you for inviting me to your spaceDanielle (29:36):Too. Yeah. We need to do this again. Yeah. .

Kamryn Gardner: Girls deserve pockets on their clothes

“I do not like that the front pockets of girls jeans are fake.”   Kamryn Gardner First grader who asked Old Navy to make jeans with pockets   The Artwork: Gardner's portrait in the Fearless Portraits project consists of an Ink drawing of her holding her new pocketed jeans on a map of northern Arkansas. Bentonville, where she lives is located just over her head and the left.   The Story: Seven-year-old Kamryn Garder of Bentonville, AR had a small problem: Her pants had no pockets. She desperately wanted pockets to put her hands in and stash items. Her brother's pants had pockets but on hers, the “pockets” were strictly ornamental.  After learning about persuasive writing in school, the first grader put the lesson into action. On the advice of her mother, she wrote a letter to retailer Old Navy. With neat penciled letters on large-ruled paper, she took the company to task for shortchanging girls out of their pockets    Dear Old Navy, I do not like that the front pockets of the girls jeans are fake. I want front pockets because I want to put my hands in them. I also would like to put things in them. Would you consider making girls jeans with front pockets that are not fake. Thank you for reading my request.  Sincerely, Kamyrn Gardner, age 7   Gardner's brother, Landon, 9, found her argument persuasive, saying, “I've never had this problem [of no pockets]. But I've heard my sister talk about not having pockets all the time.”  The logic worked on Old Navy also and the company responded with a note about her “great feedback for us as we develop new product,” and a package of four pairs of jeans in her size. With pockets of course.  Less successful was Gardner's efforts at writing persuasive letters to her parents to get her a camera.   Background on pockets in women's and girl's clothes Gardner isn't the first to rail against the lack of functional pockets in women's clothing. Women lost their pockets two centuries ago, when closer-fitting dress styles came in vogue in the 1790s. Before then, women's pockets were essentially bags hanging from a strap around the waist and tucked under a skirt. With fluffy skirts and petticoats, the pockets were invisible. When styles changed, pockets were left behind to avoid bulges. Meanwhile, men have always enjoyed pockets.  Beginning in the 20th century, pockets for women have repeatedly come back, only to leave again, depending who's winning the tug-of-war between practicality and fashion, (or if you prefer, empowerment and misogyny). as Christian Dior put it, “Men have pockets to keep things in, women for decoration.”  Gardner's complaint is about more than having a place for her hands. As writer Gail Cornwall noted in The Washington Post: “Not having pockets limits girls' ability to experience. Not only do pockets free a child's hands to investigate and accomplish, they also broadcast the need and right to do so to both wearer and viewer alike. Or, more accurately, it's the contrast of the presence and absence of pockets in different kids' clothing that sends a two-part message: Only men need functionality, and girls should learn to be women as early as possible.”   Music: This episode contains music by Geovane Bruno, Coma Media, and Music Unlimited.   Sources: Bentonville Schools [@ BentonvilleSchools]. Intro: I believe that we, in the evangelical church, need to recover the real meaning and significance of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. We have been commissioned by the Lord Jesus Christ to be the Body of Christ and go and make disciples. Why? Because there are a lot of hurting people around us who have no peace and lack hope. Sin, rebellion against God,  which isn't dealt with in our lives, will always result in unrest, insecurity, doubt, and disappointment. The life, death, and resurrection of our  Lord Jesus Christ is the only way us to realize true peace and hope. In other words, when a person puts their trust in the person and work of Christ, we are forgiven of our sin past, present, and future. Because of the victory of the resurrection (God's stamp of approval on the power of the resurrection), Jesus conquered sin, death, and Satin. You see, we can live and rest in the security of Jesus' love, guidance , and have hope. This is the real importance of the resurrection of Jesus. Matthew give us some great insights into how the resurrection can turn despair into hope and peace. Let me set the stage. On Friday, Jesus was crucified, died, and buried. The disciples though that Satin won, sin was victorious, and all hope was gone. They were hiding and locked in the upper room out of fear that they were going to be killed also because they followed Christ. We meet the 2 Marys who had the courage and heart on that Sunday morning to finish the burial rights of Jesus' body, so they went to the tomb. They were mourningJesus had been with them for over 3 yearsThey experienced His leadership, discipleship, and most of all His love. They were afraid of the unknown since their Lord was gone nowThere was a very big obstacle between them and the body of JesusThere was a high stone that blocked the entrance to the tomb plus it was sealed by the governmentHow would they move that incredibly big stone?Would they be able to finish the burial rights for Jesus' dead body? What will the guards do to them if they tried to get into the tomb?Where do we go from here??The resurrection gives real hopeWhen we contemplate the resurrection of Christ e.g. Easter, we begin to understand how the resurrection can transform hopelessness and despair into a living and dynamic faith.God removed the big obstacle: God did it all!God send a messenger to bring the message of assurance that Jesus is alive! He tells them, "Don't be afraid..."How can the angel say this? Because Jesus rose from the dead and He is Alive!Jesus kept His promiseThe angel invited them to look and see for themselvesDespair and fear, and hopelessness, was turning into a joy that couldn't be containedThe angel told the women to go and tell the disciples the good newsThe women obeyed and went, ran, still afraid, but with joyJesus met them right where they wereTheir resurrected Lord tell them, "Don't be afraid"This must have been an incredible moment! This should still be an incredible moment for all of usHe sent them on a go and tell missionLike wise, Jesus sends us on a go and tell mission Closing: Jesus is alive!Jesus conquered the graveJesus broke the power of sinJesus defeated SatanJesus is the only One who can give true forgiveness,  new life and hopeJesus commissions us to be on a show and tell missionOur world needs Jesus' hope especially with the health. family, financial, psychological, stresses we faceThe Resurrection of Jesus is the only solution for the pandemic of sinWill be let the Risen Christ into our hearts today?

What a privilege to Celebrate the Resurrection of our Saviour King Jesus. It’s the greatest day in History - The day the power of ALL sin for ALL time was dealt with. The very foundation of our Faith. There is no one else who can forgive sin and free us from the power of sin only Jesus. Jesus Died carrying the weight of our sin upon himself conquering it forever. His blood shed for us that washes us spotless and Blameless, made righteous by putting our faith in him and asking him into our lives. He was raised to life - Philippians 2:6-11Romans 8:32-39It was because of love that he went to the cross for us and Paul confirms that nothing can separate us from that love.Q Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else?Q Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own?A No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself.Q Who then will condemn us?A No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honour at God’s right hand, pleading for us.Q Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death?A (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”) No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. This week an old song has been on my mind and in it there's an invitation to look at Jesus.Turn your eyes upon JesusLook full, in his wonderful faceAnd the things of earth will grow strangely dimIn the light of his glory and graceRomans 8 tells us of what has been accomplished for us by Jesus Death and Resurrection. Because he loved you and me whether you already know God or Not. Jesus chose to do this, no one took his life from him he gave it up freely that you might have life like this. The invitation is simple: Turn your eyes upon Jesus . Look Full into his wonderful face - We can do this without any shame, guilt or fear He will not Judge usHe will not Accuse us He will not Condemn usHe will not turn his face away from usHe will receive usHe will forgive usHe will cleanse us from our sinHe will lavish us with love & graceHe will Affirm us as Children of God. He will hide us in the Shadow of his wing.and so much more  Have you been distracted from looking upon the face of Jesus by other things? What’s stopping you today from looking at Jesus? Intro: This time of year, we will see cover stories on magazines such as, "Who Is Jesus?" or "The Historical Jesus" and many more. Many people today are still trying to figure out who Jesus was or is. Was He just the son of a carpenter?; Was He just a great teacher or philosopher?; Was He delusional or just a religious charlatan?... The reality is that how you and I answer these questions will determine the life we live here and our eternal destiny. During Jesus' earthly ministry, the Jews and some Gentiles were trying to figure Him out by asking the same questions. John records for us how Jesus handled these questions with truth. Notice, Jesus makes another powerful "I Am" statement  to the Pharisees and other listeners. He says boldly, "I am the good shepherd". Jesus, in this passage, gives us some great insights into why He is the good shepherd. Jesus shows the difference between the good shepherd and a false shepherd. The Good Shepherd Will Sacrifice Himself for His Sheep. v. 11Jesus makes a contrast between a hired hand who is paid to watch the sheep and the good shepherdThe good shepherd is invested in his sheep and will do what is best for themThe hired hand is not invested and will run away at the first sign of troubleThe hired hand cares nothing about the sheepJesus was making a contrast between Himself and the PhariseesThe Pharisees cared nothing about the people, they only cared about themselvesThe Pharisees would not sacrifice themselves for their peopleThe Good Shepherd Knows His SheepThe word translated "know" means to know in an imitate and experiential wayHe knows the names of the sheepHe knows the personalities of each of the sheepHe is willing to sacrifice Himself for the sake of the sheepThe sheep know the shepherdAgain, this is to know intimately and experientiallyThis is and living, dynamic, relationship the is based upon Jesus unconditional loveThe good shepherd has sheep not of the fold of IsraelHe will bring them into His fold e.g. the gentilesHe will call them and they will recognize His voiceThey will be one flock with one good shepherdThis is a unity or responding to the call of the loving Good Shepherd and a response of love by the sheepJesus gives an example of what it means to know in a personal wayThe Father loves Jesus because He will lay down His life for His sheepJesus does this voluntarily and in love for the Father and His sheep e.g. this is a choice of love in loving obedience to the FatherJesus has the authority from the Father to lay down His life and to take it up againJesus had complete confidence and loyalty to the FatherThis is the command Jesus received from the FatherIgnoring the Good Shepherd Will Always Cause Chaos and Dissonance Many Jews said Jesus was mad and demon-possessed Others said that a demon cannot make a blind man seeWe are still faced with the same choices today. What we decide will effect our souls for eternity Closing: Do you know the Good Shepherd? Here is what the Good Shepherd does:He will leads He will feed usHe will care for usHe protects us from the predator, SatinHe broke the power of sin and deathHe will discipline us to restore usHe laid down His life for His sheep and took it up againOnce we enter through Him by faith and repentance, we have real freedom to lovingly obey the Shephard and live a full lifeIf you are a Christ follower, are we willing to to yield ourselves to the Holy Spirit and the Word and fall deeper in love with the Good Shepherd? The Good Shepherd is the Great I Am!

Intro:  There are so many "How to" books on the market such as how to be a good parent, how to have a good job, how to have a good marriage, and many more. We probably have more self help books published more than ever before and yet, in general, things are getting worse. It seems to me that the Bible has much to say about having a full life. I would love to suggest that if we ignore what the Bible says, we settle for cheap and temporary substitutes. A blind man discovered how to live a full life in John 9. As you know, this man was blind from birth. Jesus met him and restored the blindman's sight. This resulted in the Pharisees become infuriated because only God can heal... In this passage, Jesus plainly illustrates to the Pharisees that He is God in the flesh. He does this through the use of 2 illustrations; the gate and the good shepherd. In this encounter, Jesus reveals the simple and precious truth of the gospel. As He speaks, He also reveals the pride and nearsightedness of the Pharisees.  True Shepherd vs. a False ShepherdJesus makes these statements and affirms them as absolute truth e.g. "Very truly..."A true shepherd enters the sheep pen by the gateThe sheep knows the voice of their true shepherdThey will follow the shepherd who calls themThey know each sheep by name e.g. there is a relationshipA false shepherd climbs in the pen in some other wayThey are not there to protect, nurture, or care for the sheepSheep will run from false shepherds because they do not know their voiceThey have no relationship with the sheep and they don't care for their welfareThey are there to  steal and destroyThey are only interested in their own interests and greedThe Pharisees still didn't understandTrue shepherds protect, feed, and care for the sheep at the peril of the shepherd's own lifePharisees, false shepherds, lay unnecessary burdens of the people which only benefit the Pharisee and destroys the peopleJesus, the Only Way to a Full Life and FreedomJesus makes a very forceful statement which infuriates the Pharisees, "I am the gate for the sheep".Jesus makes this affirmation twiceWhen something is repeated, it is very importantHe says this statement is the absolute truthJesus, being fully God and fully man and our Great High Priest, is the only way to be saved e.g. reconciled to God, forgiven, free, and living a full lifeHe laid down His life for His sheep so that they might enter into eternal life by faith and repentanceAny other shepherd only brings destruction and death, not life and freedomJesus gives an open invitation to enter eternal life and forgiveness through the gate which is HimselfIn Christ, there is salvationIn Christ, there is the protection of the ShepherdHe will leads He will feed usHe will care for usHe protects us from the predator, SatinHe broke the power of sin and deathHe will discipline us to restore usOnce we enter through Him by faith and repentance, we have real freedom to lovingly obey the Shephard and live a full lifeClosing: You and I need to remember and meditate on these great "I Am" statements that Jesus made. It was the miracle of the incarnation that sent to us the Gate to eternal life and the freedom to live a full life. It was the miracle birth of Christ who sent into this sin sick world the Great Shepherd of our souls. The birth, life, death, and resurrection of Christ makes possible for everyone who repents and believes in the person and work of Jesus Christ to be forgiven and life a full life. As believers, there is something which is able to distract us from living freely for Christ. Unconfessed sin can break our fellowship with Jesus and thus distract us from living a full life in Christ. And so, we come to the Lord's Table. This is a sacred time during which we can have close communion with God through Jesus Christ. This is a time for reflection and asking Jesus to reveal unconfessed sin in our hearts. He can reveal this through His Word and the Holy Spirit.  When that specific sin or sins are revealed, then we need to humbly ask God to help us turn from that sin because it hurts Him and others and ourselves. The Bible tells us that when we confess our sin, He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleans us from all unrighteousness (1John 1:9).

St. Mark takes us to some highly significant moments at the start of Jesus’ ministry: his baptism, his forty days of temptation, and his preaching. All of these snapshots show us who Jesus claimed to be: He was the Son of GodHe was one of usHe was Spirit-filledHe was victorious Integrated to his identity was also his mission – what he came to do. The headline message that he began to give was this: The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.Mark 1:15 ESV Proclamation of the kingdom of God was only part of it. He came to call people to enter it, to become his disciples and follow him. God has given us his Holy Spirit to guide us. If we are listening, he will alert us when we get out of our lane. When our lives move outside the boundaries of the Word of God, the Holy Spirit is faithful to let us know. I've heard people say, “I have Jesus.  Why do I need the Holy Spirit?  What does the Holy Spirit do in a believer's life anyway?”  The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sinHe guides us into all truthHe reveals Christ to usHe sanctifies usHe empowers usHe fills usHe teaches us to prayHe produces in us the fruit or evidence of his work and presenceHe gives us spiritual giftsHe anoints us for ministryHe brings unity to the body of ChristHe reveals the deep things of GodHe teaches usHe brings things to our remembranceHe comforts usSo, Who is the Holy Spirit?  The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. He is co-equal with the Father and the Son. He is not a mist, a cloud, or a strange feeling. He is the Spirit of God.  In John 16, Jesus was preparing his disciples for his departure. He wanted them to know they would not be alone, he would give them the Holy Spirit to be with them and to live in them.“I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.” (John 16:7 NKJV)So what is the Holy Spirit doing in our lives today? The Holy Spirit convicts us of sin.The Holy Spirit shows us who we really are rather than what we pretend to be.  This happens before we come to Christ and after we come to Christ.  It's not until the Holy Spirit speaks to our heart and makes us aware of our sin and our need for Christ that any change happen.“And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment” (John 16:8 NKJV)The Holy Spirit brings us freedom.“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”  2 Corinthians 3:17 NIV)It is through the power of the Holy Spirit we gain freedom in our lives.  It's through His strength we are able to resist temptation.  It is through his power we are able to live Godly and Holy lives. The Holy Spirit teaches us what we need to know and reminds us of what we need to remember.“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”  (John 14:26 NIV)Has this ever happened to you?  You are talking with a friend when just the right verse of Scripture pops into your head.  How did this happen?  At just the right moment?  It is the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit empowers us to witness for Jesus.“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”  (Acts 1:8 NIV)Today's Challenge: Ask God to fill your life with His Holy Spirit. Begin to seek God and ask him to lead and guide your life by His Spirit. Listen for his voice. Cooperate with his leadership. Ask the Lord to help you to walk daily in the power of the Holy Spirit.Visit the website: 5MinuteDiscipleship.comFollow on social:Facebook.com/5minutediscipleshipInstagram.com/5minutediscipleshipClick here to learn how you can start your own podcast.

What is discouragement? A loss of confidence or enthusiasm; ( google search dictionary definition) Romans 8:28: And we know that in all things God works for the good those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Read Genesis chapter 3 when the enemy disguised as the serpent Genesis 3:13-14: Then the Lord God said to the women, “what is this you have done?” 14- the woman said,” the serpent deceived me, and I ate.” 3 Ways the enemy discourages usHe points out our weaknesses to make us question ourselves in what we are doingPhillippians 4:7:And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus 2. He physically does things in our day to overwhelm us and to support what he is whispering to us. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18: Rejoice always, 17: Pray continually, 18-Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus 3. He moves us away from Christ, He makes us second guess our faith and hope in Christ 1 Thessalonians 5:24: The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it. Mark 9:23-24: “If you can?” Said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.” 24: Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me with my unbelief!” What did I do to overcome this discouragement I needed to stop for a moment and really think about what I was allowing myself to think, and come up with facts to the statements I was making to myself (the enemies voice)Philippians 1:9-10: And this is my prayer: That your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, 10 so that you may be able to discern what is best and my be pure and blameless for the day of ChristProverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in al your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. 2. Ask God for his helpMatthew 21: 22: “If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” Psalm 16:8: I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.3. Just do it. 1 Peter 1: 14-16: As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15 But just as he who called you holy, so be holy in all you do; 16for it is written: “ Be holy, because I am holy.” Proverbs 10:4: Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth. Encouragement from Christ2 Chronicles 16:9: For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.Zephaniah 3:17: The Lord your God is with you, the mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you. But will rejoice over you with singing.”Ephesians 5:10: Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his might power. Ephesians 5:12: For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Philippians 1:6: being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

2019 Can't Be Over Soon Enough for America's Corn Belt (0:32)Guest: Jerry Jackson, Jackson Farms, Illinois“2019 can't be over soon enough,” wrote farmer Jerry Jackson in a recent Tweet. Jackson grows corn, soybeans, and wheat in Illinois. It's been the wettest year on record for the lower 48. Spring floods and incessant rains delayed crop planting for Midwest farmers like Jerry Jackson. And then autumn rains made harvesting those late crops a mad dash. Philosophical Adviser to The Good Place (13:38)Guest: Todd May, PhD, Professor of Philosophy, Clemson University, Author of “A Decent Life: Morality for the Rest of Ushe twistiest show on TV right now has got to be The Good Place on NBC. At first, we thought it was a comedy about the afterlife. Ted Danson plays the architect Michael who's built a paradise –The Good Place –for all the best humans who've died. And Kristen Bell plays Eleanor who ends up there. But pretty quickly, we learn that there's been a case of mistaken identity. Eleanor did not do all the wonderful things that supposedly landed her in the Good Place. And then at the end of Season 1, there's a giant twist. Nothing is what we thought it was. From there, every single episode seems to turn the tables just a bit. But the wildest part, if you ask me, is that the real premise of the show is to explore the biggest questions humans can have. What's the purpose of life? What does it mean to be good? Can bad people change for the better? The creator of the show, Michael Schur, is an avowed philosophy nerd. And so, The Good Place is maybe the only network comedy ever to employ philosophical advisers Gun Smuggling Across the US-Mexico Border is Out of Control (30:59)Guest: David Shirk, Professor of Political Science and International Relations, University of San Diego, Director of Justice in MexicoA shootout between drug cartel gunmen and police killed 21 people in northern Mexico over the weekend, including four police officers. Also over the weekend, Mexican authorities said they arrested several more suspects in the attack that killed nine women and children with dual US/Mexico citizenship in November. President Trump says he will designate Mexican drug cartels as terrorist groups, which would create stiffer penalties for banks and businesses in the US that are found to facilitate cartel efforts in any way. Why Having Stuff Shipped from China is So Cheap –and How That's About to Change (51:08)Guest: Anna Möller Boivie, Managing Director of Copenhagen Economics in StockholmSavvy online Christmas shoppers may have noticed that postage-wise, it's cheaper to order a gift from China and have it sent directly to your relative in a neighboring state than it is to buy that same thing at a store in town and mail it yourself. It makes no sense that having something shipped from China would be cheaper than shipping it to another state unless you understand the workings of a group called the Universal Postal Union. Just before this holiday season got underway, the US government went to that international group demanded some big changes –which they mostly got. So starting next summer, the postage for stuff you buy online from overseas will go up. But you're good for the holiday season. What Happens When Libraries Remove Late Fines (1:07:08)Guest: Andrea Telli, Chicago Public LibraryThe Guinness world record for the largest library fine ever paid is $345.14 cents. That book was 47 years overdue. But a lot of people just never pay their late fees and get banned from checking out books. That's why the Chicago Public Library got rid of fines and forgave all outstanding debt last month –they want to make sure that everyone has equal access to the library. Voting by Mail is On the Rise in the US, but is it Secure? (1:21:15)Guest: Amber McReynolds, Executive Director of the National Vote at Home InstituteIn the 2020 election, five states will hold voting entirely by mail –Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Utah, and Hawaii. Voters in almost half of all states can request a ballot by mail without needing any excuse as to why they can't visit a polling station on Election Day. With so much concern about election security, though, is it really smart to have a large swath of Americans voting at home and mailing in their ballots?

Lord’s Day #20Intro…Welcome to the Cornerstone Baptist church podcast. My name is Justin Wheeler, I am the preaching pastor for Cornerstone and today we are in week 20 of our journey through the Heidelberg Catechism and I will be talking to you today about questions 53.Transition…This week, we have one question and it has to do with the Holy Spirit. Now, personally I think this is far too little time spent on the Spirit of God, but that is how the Catechism is laid out. Why do I think this isn’t enough time? You can probably answer that for me, I mean, after all this is the third person of the Trinity we are talking about.Let me answer with a question, If you only had 3 hours to spend with the people you cared about most, what would you do? Would you talk about how much they mean to you? Would you reminisce about the time you spent together? Would you say all the things that you couldn’t bear to leave unsaid? You would probably do all those things and more, but One thing is certain, if you knew you only had 3 more hours to spend with the people you loved most, you wouldn’t waste your time. You would do all that you could to make that time count. As we read through the gospel of John and come to the 14th chapter, we understand that Jesus has about 15 hours to live, but He will only spend about 3 of those hours with the 12. So, what does Jesus talk about in these final hours? For starters, He wants to comfort them. He wants them to know that God’s plan is right on track. They don’t need to abandon the gospel; they don’t need to seek salvation in any other way. They have put their hope in Him and nothing needs to change that. But there is something else that dominates his final hours with the 12. He wants them to know that He is going to be leaving them but this is actually a good thing because when He leaves Someone else is going to come.John 14:15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, 17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.John 16:7 I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. 8 And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; 10 concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; 11 concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. For the disciples, the coming of the Holy Spirit was good news, but for many of us it is still a pretty unclear subject. The Doctrine of the Holy Spirit is the Cinderella Story of Christian Doctrine. He is the person of the Trinity that we seem to talk about the least. but this week we are going to focus our attention on Him exclusively. I don’t have 3 hours like Jesus, but in the next 15 minutes or so I want us to consider what we believe concerning the Holy Spirit.Lord’s Day Focus...Question 53: What do you believe concerning the Holy Spirit?Answer: First, that He is co-eternal with the Father and the Son. Secondly, that He has been given to me personally, so that, by true faith, He makes me share in Christ and all His blessings, comforts me, and remains with me forever. The word for “spirit” in the OT is the Hebrew term “ruahk.” In the NT the word for spirit is “pnuema.” Both of these terms are used in other places to refer to wind or breath, as well as life, motion and activity. This has caused some, like the Jews, to think of the Holy Spirit as the impersonal force or power of God. Muslims teach that the Spirit of God is an angel sent to do God’s bidding. But the Bible is quite clear that the Holy Spirit is not an impersonal force, nor an angel; but rather He is the third person of our Triune God.The Bible teaches that the Holy Spirit is a person by drawing our attention to the personal attributes that are ascribed to Him. The Holy Spirit grieves (Eph 4:30), He intercedes for us (Rom 8:26-27), He speaks (Mk 13:11), He creates (Gen 1:2) and He can be blasphemed (Mk 3:28-29). The Holy Spirit possesses wisdom and understanding (1 Cor 2:10-12, Isa 40:8, Psa 139:23), He acts according to His own will (1 Cor 12:11), and He is the One who sets apart men to special tasks of ministry (Acts 13:2, 4).In the passage we read earlier from John 14:16, we see Jesus refer to the Holy Spirit as a HE.V. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, 17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.The Holy Spirit is more than an impersonal force; He is a personal being. But He is also more than just a person, He is a divine person. In Hebrews 9:14, He is called the eternal Spirit. In Acts 5, when Ananias and Saphira lied to the Holy Spirit they are said to have lied to God. He shares in the immensity of God, the omnipotence of God, the foreknowledge of God, the omniscience of God and the Sovereignty of God.The Spirit is God, like the Father and the Son. He stands alongside them as an object of worship. He is called the Holy Spirit because by His very nature He possesses the attribute of divine holiness. The Holy Spirit is God, but He is not the Father nor the Son. He is His own divine person equal in glory and majesty to the Father and the Son.The first part of the Catechism answer addresses the person of the Holy Spirit but the second part addresses His work. One of the reasons that we focus more on the Father and Jesus, than the Spirit, is that this is the Spirit’s work.John 16:13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. 14 He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.Whether we realize it or not, the Holy Spirit draws our attention away from Himself and He directs our focus to Christ, He magnifies the Work and Word of Jesus. His task is not to highlight our subjective spiritual experiences, but to amplify our love for Jesus. But, make no mistake, the Holy Spirit has been given to all who possess true faith in Jesus. The Spirit lives within us (1 Cor 6:19) and He makes His dwelling place in our hearts.Gal 4:6 And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!”By faith, the Spirit makes us partakers or He helps us to share in the blessings of Christ. When I read this I can’t help but think of Ephesians 1 where Paul talks to us about the fact that God has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places. Then he goes on to outline for us what those blessings are.We have been blessed by God in Christ because He chose us before the foundation of the world. He predestined us to adoption according to the purpose of His will. He redeemed us by forgiving our sins on account of Jesus. He has lavished us with grace, revealed to us mysterious things about God’s will for the world, and He has given us an eternal inheritance. All of these blessings have been given to those who believe in Christ, but how did that happen? How did we become recipients of the blessings of Christ?Eph 1:13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory. The Spirit sealed us with His presence. We heard the gospel, we believed in Christ, we received the Holy Spirit who is the guarantee that we will receive every blessing that God has prepared for us.There is so much more that I could say about the work of the Spirit in us. But let me just list out a few things that He does in the lives of believers.1. The Spirit convicts us and we read about this a few minutes ago from John 16:7-11. The Holy Spirit brings: conviction of sin, righteousness and judgment. For believers, we understand that the Holy Spirit has worked in us to convince us of our sins before God, of the righteousness of Christ that we need, and of the certainty that judgment will come. This progression is the way we understand how God works in our heart and mind to draw us to saving faith in Christ. But there is more to this text. The Holy Spirit also brings this conviction of sin to the unbelieving world. The Spirit exposes sin. He puts a giant spotlight on it and causes the world to see the ugliness that they want to deny.2. The Spirit converts usJohn 3:3 Jesus said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” 4 Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” 5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”In this conversation with Nicodemus, Jesus is talking about the supernatural work of the Holy Spirit that causes us to be born again. This is the Holy Spirit’s work. He removes our blindness so that we can see our need of Christ. He breathes life into our souls and brings us out of our deadness to sin. He removes our heart of stone and gives us a living heart of flesh. The Holy Spirit does this work in every believer and there is no genuine saving faith in Christ apart from this converting work of the Holy Spirit.3. The Spirit comforts us. He bears witness in our hearts that we are children of God and fellow heirs with Christ (Rom 8:16-17), He groans within us and causes us to long for the day when Christ will return to set all of creation free from the curse of sin and death (Rom 8:23), He helps us in our weaknesses and intercedes/prays for us with groanings too deep for words, and He will sustain us in the faith making us more than conquerors until the day our Lord appears.4. The Spirit teaches usJohn 14:25 “These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. This instruction had special significance for the Apostles but it is important for us as well. The Spirit of God reveals to us the things of God, the things that pertain to salvation and the Christian life.1 Cor 2:11…No one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God.5. The Holy Spirit sanctifies usThis should be no surprise to us, after all He is called the Holy Spirit and he works in us so that we will bear the fruits and become more like Jesus.Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.6. The Spirit equips usHe fills us with courage, not fear. He fills us with wisdom, faith and joy. He grants us gifts that we are to use for the building up of the body of Christ. He empowers our service to God and to one another.7. (And finally) The Spirit seals us for the eternal inheritance that we will receive when Christ returns in glory (Eph 1:13-14). Like those overpriced embossing seals that we buy so that we can stamp an impression on our books, the Holy Spirit has placed His seal upon us declaring that we belong to God and our place in His kingdom secure. The whole of our Christian life is initiated, empowered, and sustained by the Spirit of God working with the Word of God to bring us into the presence of God. Without the Holy Spirit there would be no Bible (2 Tim 3:16). Without the Holy Spirit there would be no Gospel Witness, the Spirit works in us to accomplish the great commission. Without the Holy Spirit there would be no believers because our dead hearts would never come to life on their own. Without the Holy Spirit there would be no Church. The whole of our Christian life is dependent upon the Holy Spirit of God, the third person of the Trinity.Let’s ask God to give us more of the Spirit’s presence and power in our lives. Let’s ask the Spirit to shift our sanctification into overdrive. Let’s ask the Spirit to pour out His power in our church and in our lives. Let’s ask the Spirit to convert our loved ones. Let’s ask the Spirit to make the church more loving, more faithful, more compassionate, more like Jesus. Thanks for joining me today as I discuss the Heidelberg Catechism. She vulnerably shares about the struggles and insecurities that God has carried her through- all issues that we can relate to as humans: to feel wanted, validated, and unconditionally chosen. About the Speaker: Brook is a California girl who was adopted into a multiracial physical family as a young child. The feeling of abandonment and disconnectedness typically experienced by adopted children motivated her to search for God and become adopted into a spiritual family when she was twenty years old. In this podcast, Brook shares about her journey of how she healed her brokenness and is able to extend compassion to others through experiencing God's true love. Episode Notes: Psalm 68:5 "Sing to God, sing in praise of his name, extol him who rides on the clouds; rejoice before him—his name is the Lord. A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families."Ephesians 1:4-5 "..even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will..."Ephesians 2:19 "Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household"God's grace and mercy empowers us to extend that same compassion and understanding to others around us. We all want to feel like we belong to a group of people- especially those who really know us as individuals. Luke 13:34 "How often I have longed to gather your children together as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you would have none of it!"We can be women of compassion and conviction when we live in the overwhelming love of God and imitate His son, Jesus. Psalm 145:13-19 God is trustworthy! He is faithful to us! He has compassion on usHe disciplines our characters as His beloved children- and His discipline is perfect. The phrase "Doubting Thomas" now part of the English language, as way of describing a person who is unable to believe the truth. Yet, the bible doesn't present the original Thomas in so negative a way. Instead, it invites us to identify with him because he resembles our situation in life. Like him, we find it hard to believe because we haven't seen Jesus face to face. This sermon points us to the lessons Thomas can teach us about dealing with doubts and how we can help others see Jesus for themselves.Scripture reference: John 20:19-31Preached by Rev. But you have received the “Spirit of full acceptance,” enfolding you into the family of God. And you will never feel orphaned, for as he rises up within us, our spirits join him in saying the words of tender affection, “Beloved Father!” 16 For the Holy Spirit makes God’s fatherhood real to us as he whispers into our innermost being, “You are God’s beloved child!”17 And since we are his true children, we qualify to share all his treasures, for indeed, we are heirs of God himself. And since we are joined to Christ, we also inherit all that he is and all that he has. We will experience being co-glorified with him provided that we accept his sufferings as our own.Confirmed identity - knowing we’re in good standing - so we are motivated to act on it How does this fit into God’s larger purpose - how do we act on itPartnership - to establish and expand his kingdom on earthDiscipleship - to bring others into the kingdom, affirm their identity, so that they can do the same for othersPARTNERSHIP God’s purpose from the beginning - to join with him out of free will because we are motivated by love (see Rom. 8:14)How confident is God in his love that he can surrender authority to us, knowing that his purposes will still be accomplished because his love will motivate us to join himHe created all and has authority over us - but he ceded his authority because of his desire for usOriginal purpose - Adam and EveGenesis 1:26-28 - 26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. 28 And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”Desired for us to partner with us so much that he gave Adam and Eve his authority knowing that they would turn it over to SatanEven then he had a plan to get it back for usRev. 13:8 - “the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.”God knew we would need redeemed and authority returned to usHe so valued it that it was worthy giving his son, and he had already committed himself to it before Adam even failedOnce Jesus came and won that authority back, he again surrendered it to usMatthew 28:18-20 - “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.”Go in HIS authority Partnership is the open secret of the kingdomPaul called it the mystery of the gospelEphesians 3:3-6 (TPT) - 3 For this wonderful mystery, which I briefly described, was given to me by divine revelation, 4 so that whenever you read it you will be able to understand my revelation and insight into the secret mystery of the Messiah. 5 There has never been a generation that has been given the detailed understanding of this glorious and divine mystery until now. He kept it a secret until this generation. God is revealing it only now to his sacred apostles and prophets by the Holy Spirit. 6 Here’s the secret: The gospel of grace has made you, non-Jewish believers, into coheirs of his promise through your union with him. And you have now become members of his body—one with the Anointed One!God restored his purpose to give us his kingdom through JesusNow what are you going to do with it9 My passion is to enlighten every person to this divine mystery. It was hidden for ages past until now, and kept a secret in the heart of God, the Creator of all. 10 The purpose of this was to unveil before every throne and rank of angelic orders in the heavenly realm God’s full and diverse wisdom revealed through the church. 11 This perfectly wise plan was destined from eternal ages and fulfilled completely in our Lord Jesus Christ, so that now 12 we have boldness through him, and free access as kings before the Father because of our complete confidence in Christ’s faithfulness. What would you do if you knew the kingdom was yours - how much bolder would you be to speak its message and try to bring people into itGod’s kingdom is unending, but it manifests on earth only to the extent we partner with him and bring it hereGod doesn’t just want to work with us, He put a system in place that requires our participation to see His work complete on earth. We have access to it as much as we explore, expand, and follow himSalvation is just the entry point - it cost Jesus to purchase it, but now it’s freeHe died once for all - we don’t have to keep going back to itIf you remain focused on whether your sin is forgiven, you’re distracted from expanding the kingdomWhen we stay stuck at salvation, it’s like being given the kingdom to explore and develop, and we just walk in the gate, celebrate for a little bit, and then set up camp next to the gate. DISCIPLESHIPAdam - be fruitful and multiplyGenesis 1:28 And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”Jesus - make disciplesMatthew 28:18-20 - “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.”The message of the second Adam is the same as the first, it’s just spiritual instead of physical Adam multiplied physically. We are called to help God with spiritually multiplication. By bringing in adopted sons and daughters. The combination of an open heart and the Holy Spirit creates offspring. No matter how good the messages are, and how much we grow in here, we’re not fulfilling our purpose if it doesn’t make it outside these wallsYou have something to share - no matter where you areNon-believers and believers - show them Jesus even if you can’t say his nameSalvation is just the entry point - making disciples means showing them the kingdom and confirming their identitySpeaking into their lives as God sees them, and how they look in the futureRevelation 19:10 - the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. When you speak what God says about someone, you’re revealed the heart of Jesus and who He is. When you prophesy to someone the finished product of who they are, you’re both speaking from the future as how God already sees them and you’re propelling them into it by speaking it into existence. When God speaks, he creates. His word is life. He’s already spoke about who we are, and those around us. By partnering with him, and speaking that word over people, we create in themMatthew 5:43-45 TPT “Your ancestors have also been taught ‘Love your neighbors and hate the one who hates you.’ However, I say to you, love your enemy, bless the one who curses you, do something wonderful for the one who hates you, and respond to the very ones who persecute you by praying for them. For that will reveal your identity as children of your heavenly Father. He is kind to all by bringing the sunrise to warm and rainfall to refresh whether a person does what is good or evil.”Your identity as a child of God is manifested when you connect with the Spirit by speaking his heart for that person over even when they’re outward actions are most opposite to that. By doing so, you’re not just revealing your identity, but it’s pointing back to Jesus. Because only through Jesus can you take a curse and transform it into a blessing. That’s what he did on the cross, took the curse that was on all of us and turned it into the blessing of Abraham that we can all enter into. Jesus and his disciples - showed them the way to salvation, taught them about his kingdom, and told them who they were and what they’re place was in that kingdom“The people who influenced me the most aren’t the ones who told me what to do, but they told me who I was.” - Bob GoffDiscipleship- speaking into others what God says about them. Moses: i am nobody and can’t speak right - voice of a nationExodus 3:10-11 - you’ll lead your people out of EgyptGideon: a coward who was the lowliest of his tribe - mighty man of valorJudges 5:12 And the angel of the Lord appeared to him and said to him, “The Lord is with you, O mighty man of valor.”Peter: unable to stand by Jesus under pressure - a rockMatthew 16:18 - And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rockb I will build my church, and the gates of hellc shall not prevail against it. Confident in your identity, stepping into maturity, co-labor with God by speaking His identity into others so they become rooted in it, grow in maturity, and then do the same to someone else. That’s the cycle.

Amen. Cyril of Alexandria (c. 382-444)   PSALMODYAnt.1 The angel Gabriel was sent to the Virgin Mary, who was engaged to be married to Joseph. or: Blessed are you, O Virgin Mary, for you carried the Creator of the world in your womb. Psalm 101Avowal of a good rulerIf you love me, keep my commandments (John 14:15) My song is of mercy and justice;I sing to you, O Lord.I will walk in the way of perfection.O when, Lord, will you come? I will walk with blameless heartwithin my house;I will not set before my eyeswhatever is base. I will hate the ways of the crooked;they shall not be my friends. The false-hearted must keep far away;the wicked I disown. The man who slanders his neighbor in secretI will bring to silence. The man of proud looks and haughty heartI will never endure. I look to the faithful in the landthat they may dwell with me.He who walk in the way of perfectionshall be my friend. No man who practices deceitshall live within my house. No man who utters lies shall standbefore my eyes. Morning by morning I will silenceall the wicked in the land, uprooting from the city of the Lordall who do evil. Ant. 2 Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. Or: You are the mother of your maker, yet you remain a virgin for ever.   Canticle                                                      Daniel 3:26,27,29,34-41Azariah's prayer in the furnace. With your whole hearts turn to God and he will blot out your sins. (Acts 3:19.)   Blessed are you, and praiseworthy,O Lord, the God of our fathers, and glorious forever is your name. For you are just in all you have done;all your deeds are faultless, all your ways right, and all your judgments proper. For we have sinned and transgressedby departing from you,and we have done every kind of evil. For your name's sake, do not deliver us up forever,or make void your covenant. Do not take away your mercy from us,for the sake of Abraham, your beloved,Isaac your servant, and Israel your holy one, to whom you promised to multiply their offspringlike the stars of heaven,or the sand on the shore of the sea. For we are reduced, O Lord, beyond any other nation, brought low everywhere in the world this daybecause of our sins. We have in our day no prince, prophet, or leader,no holocaust, sacrifice, oblation, or incense,no place to offer first fruits, to find favor with you. But with contrite heart and humble spiritlet us be received;as though it were holocausts of rams and bullocks,or thousands of fat lambs,so let our sacrifice be in your presence todayas we follow you unreservedly;for those who trust in you cannot be put to shame. And now we follow you with our whole heart,we fear you and we pray to you. Ant. 3: Trusting in the Lord's promise, the Virgin Mary conceived a child, and remaining a virgin, she gave birth to the Saviour. Or: We share the fruit of life through you, O daughter blessed by the Lord. Psalm 135:1-12Praise for the wonderful things God does for usHe has won you for himself...and you must proclaim what he has done for you: he has called you out of darkness into his own wonderful light (1 Peter 2:9).   Praise the name of the Lord, praise him, servants of the Lord, who stand in the house of the Lordin the courts of the house of our God. Praise the Lord for the Lord is good.Sing a psalm to his name for he is loving. For the Lord has chosen Jacob for himselfand Israel for his own possession. For I know that the Lord is great, that our Lord is high above all gods. The Lord does whatever he wills,in heaven, on earth, in the seas. He summons clouds from the ends of the earth;makes lightning produce the rain;from his treasuries he sends forth the wind. The first-born of the Egyptians he smote,of man and beast alike.Signs and wonders he workedin the midst of your land, O Egypt, against Pharaoh and all his servants. Nations in their greatness he struckand kings in their splendor he slew.Sihon, king of the Amorites,Og, the king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms of Canaan. He let Israel inherit their land;on his people their land he bestowed. FIRST READING                                                      Philippians 2:6-7 Though he was in the form of God,Jesus did not regard equality with God something to be grasped.Rather, he emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, coming in human likeness;and found human in appearance.   Or                                                       Sirach 24:1-16 Wisdom sings her own praises,  before her own people she proclaims her glory; In the assembly of the Most High she opens her mouth,  in the presence of his hosts she declares her worth: "From the mouth of the Most High I came forth,  and mistlike covered the earth. In the highest heavens did I dwell,  my throne on a pillar of cloud. The vault of heaven I compassed alone,  through the deep abyss I wandered.Over waves of the sea, over all the land,  over every people and nation I held sway.Among all these I sought a resting place;in whose inheritance should I abide? "Then the Creator of all gave me his command,  and he who formed me chose the spot for my tent,Saying, 'In Jacob make your dwelling,  in Israel your inheritance.'Before all ages, in the beginning, he created me,  and through all ages I shall not cease to be.In the holy tent I ministered before him,  and in Zion I fixed my abode. Thus in the chosen city he has given me rest,  in Jerusalem is my domain.I have struck root among the glorious people,  in the portion of the LORD, his heritage. "Like a cedar on Lebanon I am raised aloft,  like a cypress on Mount Hermon,Like a palm tree in En-gedi,  like a rosebush in Jericho,Like a fair olive tree in the field,  like a plane tree growing beside the water.Like cinnamon, or fragrant balm, or precious myrrh,  I give forth perfume;Like galbanum and onycha and sweet spices,  like the odor of incense in the holy place.I spread out my branches like a terebinth,  my branches so bright and so graceful. SECOND READING From a sermon by St. Leo the Great, pope(Sermo 1 in Nativitate Domini, 2, 3: PL 54, 191-192) Mary conceived in her soul before she conceived in her body.   A royal virgin of the house of David is chosen. She is to bear a holy child, one who is both God and man. She is to conceive him in her soul before she conceives him in her body. In the face of so unheard of an event she is to know no fear through ignorance of the divine plan; the angel tells her what is to be accomplished in her by the Holy Spirit. She believes that there will be no loss of virginity, she who is soon to be the mother of God. Why should she lose heart at this new form of conceiving when she has been promised that it will be effected through the power of the Most High? She believes, and her faith is confirmed by the witness of a previous wonder: against all expectation Elizabeth is made fruitful. God has enabled a barren woman to be with child; he must be believed when he makes the same promise to a virgin. RESPONSORYHail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. - Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you.Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb. - The Lord is with you.Glory to the Father... - Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. Or: After the birth of your Son, you remained a virgin. - After the birth of your Son, you remained a virgin.Mother of God, intercede for us; - you remained a virgin.Glory to the Father... - After the birth of your Son, you remained a virgin.   CANTICLE OF ZECHARIAH                                                       Luke 1:68-79Ant. In his great love for us, God sent his Son in the likeness of our sinful nature.   The Messiah and his forerunner   Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;he has come to his people and set them free. He has raised up for us a mighty savior, born of the house of his servant David. Through his holy prophets he promised of old,  that he would save us from our enemies,  from the hands of all who hate us. He promised to show mercy to our fathersand to remember his holy covenant. This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham,to set us free from the hands of our enemies, free to worship him without fear, holy and righteous in his sight all the days of our life. You, my child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High, for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way, To give his people knowledge of salvationby the forgiveness of their sins. In the tender compassion of our Godthe dawn from on high shall break upon us,to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death, and to guide our feet into the way of peace. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever.  Amen. INTERCESSIONS We celebrate the beginning of our salvation when the coming of the Lord was announced by the angel. Let us pray with joy in our hearts, saying: May God's holy Mother intercede for us.   Mary received God's word with joy,- may joy fill our hearts as we welcome our Saviour. You looked with love on your lowly servant,- in your mercy, Father, remember us and all your children. Mary, the new Eve, was obedient to your word,- may we echo her loving obedience. May God's holy Mother help all in distress, encourage the fainthearted, console the sorrowful,- may she pray for your holy people, for the clergy, and for all women dedicated to your service. Our Father… CONCLUDING PRAYERGod our Father, your Word became flesh and was born of the Virgin Mary.May we become more like Jesus Christ, whom we acknowledge as our redeemer, God and man.We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,Who live and reigns with you and Holy SpiritOne God, forever and ever, Amen. May the Lord bless us,protect us from eviland bring us to everlasting life. -  Amen.
