Send us a textThis week we welcome author Jared Glenn. Jared's second novel, Lost in the Sun, just released and he's currently working on his third novel. It was so much fun doing the production work on this episode that was recorded in June. Discussions around writing are timeless. You'll find so much packed into this episode. There's not a specific timeline for when you need to learn something or apply it to your own writing. There are opportunities all the time to find nuggets of wisdom you can apply to your own practice. We're finding great connections with writers on Threads, so if you've been curious, we encourage you to give it a try. Since we're always curious to learn from other writers, Elizabeth had reached out to learn more and Jared has since become an active member of our community participating in our first virtual writing retreat over 4th of July weekend and connecting us with writers.Stephanie's conversation with Jared offers inspiration and insight into Jared's writing process. He's discovered how much his process changes depending on what he's working on and how the story appears to him. A recent project shifted his process from pen to paper to stream of consciousness on the computer. It's a great reminder of how unique the writing process is to you, but also what you can learn from listening to someone else's story. There's always so much to learn from other writers. Meet Jared Glenn: Jared Glenn is an author, playwright, and editor based in Long Island, New York. He has written for every medium, from screenwriting and theatre to poetry and essays. In addition to his debut love story, Left Unsaid, his work has been featured on stages around the country, including the 1619 Project Play Festival. His newsletter, The Absence of Light, focuses on the various intersections of art, creativity, and love, across all forms of media.Books: Left Unsaid by Jared GlennLost in the Sun by Jared GlennYou're invited to join us for our Virtual Writing Retreat October 11 and 12 on Zoom! Anyone who knows former student pastor and Bethany member Kelli Manning might be surprised to know that she was once hugely self-conscious. Well, she didn't manage, understand, or grow through it on her own. It required caring and collective curiosity. Preaching from Numbers 22, she encouraged us likewise to journey together:"When people ignore or don't know to look for repeated warning signs...they keep walking on a dangerously lonely path. Seeing the warning signs is one thing, but allowing someone else to help navigate them is transformational."
Every parent hits that moment — the eye roll, the “you’re so unfair,” the slammed door. It’s the backchat that drives us up the wall. But what if we told you that this so-called “sass” is actually a sign of something good? In today’s episode, Justin and Kylie unpack why backchat is one of the most misunderstood parts of child development — and how you can respond in a way that strengthens your relationship, rather than wrecking it. We share 3 practical mindset shifts and 4 go-to scripts you can use today to turn attitude into connection and cooperation. Yes, even when the sass is strong. KEY POINTS: Backchat is often a clumsy expression of unmet needs — not a sign of defiance Reframing disrespect as a lack of skills (not a lack of values) changes everything Power struggles escalate when we seek control instead of connection Meeting autonomy, relatedness, and competence needs helps reduce pushback Get curious, not furious — especially when emotions are high Four practical scripts help parents respond with connection, not control QUOTE OF THE EPISODE: “Disrespect often isn’t deliberate — it’s just clumsy communication from a kid who doesn’t yet have the skills to do it better.” RESOURCES MENTIONED: The 3 Basic Psychological Needs: Autonomy, Relatedness, Competence The “Get Curious, Not Furious” principle happyfamilies.com.au for more resources and support ACTION STEPS FOR PARENTS: Reframe backchat as a sign of emotional overwhelm or unmet needs Use validating language like “Sometimes it feels like I’m your enemy, doesn’t it?” Offer autonomy with choices (“I don’t mind when you do it — just have it done by dinner”) Give in fantasy what they can’t have in reality to lighten the moment Use the 3 E’s Script: “Sounds like you’re really frustrated... will you help me see what’s bothering you?” Set boundaries with respect: “I’m going to give you a chance to rethink that and try again in harmony with our values.” See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

I truly believe that we are in the greatest shift in work since the industrial revolution. AI has completely changed the game and as coaches, mentors, and consultants, we have a choice: Stay ahead of the curve or be left behind. That's not at all to bring any sense of fear mongering because my perspective is that as we embrace AI in our businesses, we are saying yes to the opportunity to evolve and expand. In saying that, we do need to be intentional about how we go about it. Here are five key strategies to futureproof your business with AI in 2025 and beyond. 1. Incorporate AI ImperfectlyFor some, the concept of AI is overwhelming but let me assure you, perfection isn't necessary. AI is evolving rapidly and trying to build perfect systems could lead to constant and frustrating updates. Instead, focus on building your AI literacy, experimenting with different prompts and integrations and teaching your clients to do the same. This way, you can continue to adapt alongside advancements without becoming overwhelmed.2. Double Down on Your Uniquely Human EdgeWe all have access to the same information. Therefore, it's now more than ever that your emotional intelligence, intuition, and storytelling are your defining traits. This is where your personal brand gets to shine because humans crave connection with other humans. By honing your unique skills, you'll create meaningful relationships with your audience that AI simply cannot replace.3. Audit and Reinvent Your OffersIf your courses or programs are easily replicated by AI, it's time to reconsider what you have on offer. Double down on the things that AI can't replicate - those high-touch personalised services, community components, and unique insights. People are looking for that human connection within their purchases, so emphasise the human elements to remain indispensable.4. Position Yourself as a Guide, Not Just a GuruAI can dish out answers, sure. But, it can't walk with your clients through the nuances of implementation, mindset shifts, and personal challenges. As a guide, your role is more than just providing solutions; it's about supporting your clients with empathy and personalised insights on their journeys. 5. Get Curious, Not ThreatenedWith AI in the picture, it's easy to feel intimidated—but I encourage you to replace fear with curiosity. Ask how AI can simplify your work instead of fixating on what it might take from you. Futureproofing your business means embracing technology with optimism and recognising its potential to aid in expansion and abundance. The landscape is changing rapidly but instead of being scared of how that might impact your business, I hope this episode inspires you to think about how AI can help you grow and expand in ways that previously weren't possible. I'd love to hear your thoughts and what lands for you.
