What is up Gypsy Gang, the official Gypsy Gang! We are back for another epic episode of the podcast and my guest today is none other than hard enduro legend Cody Webb. I first met Cody location scouting for his first big Red Bull project back in 2016 and we have been friends ever since. With his unique trials background, Cody was one of the pioneers of American hard enduro and enduro-x and has won titles in each discipline. Cody is also a qualified engineer, and continued with his degree while also training as a racer full time. Before we get into this episode though, I wanted to share with you some awesome news regarding our first ever race, the Gypsy Tales 500.Vurbmoto and Gypsy Tales are putting on an 8hr Grand Prix style event in Mesquite, NV. Using one of Gypsy's favorite events, Australia's Transmoto series, as inspiration, this will be an 8hr team or solo (for the Savages) race with your boys (or girls). The course will consist of a tamed down moto track and offroad loop, averaging 20 min lap times. The goal? Have fun, kick some beers and race your buddies. It's worth noting this is a 125cc and Up race, no mini bikes allowed. As far as the course goes, it will be part moto, part offroad - Sunday's loop will be a unique course with an average lap time of 20 minutes. The loop will include terrain for the average rider along with a tamed down motocross track with no mandatory jumps. Again, this is a vibe race and will be built for all rider disciplines. On this episode of Roger the Wild Child Show, we are joined by country music musician and singer/songwriter, Ryan Jewel, along with Texas based singer/songerwriter, Brandi Behlen!RYAN JEWELLike many artists, Ryan Jewel was drawn to music at a young age. When he got his first guitar, there was no turning back. By high school, Ryan started playing with the idea of becoming a professional musician. By his sophomore year at Clemson University, Ryan and his fellow bandmate, Andrew Beam, were burning up every bar, club, sorority, and fraternity party they were able to. They went by the name Beam & Jewel and played 3 nights a week for the remainder of Ryan's college career.A native of Front Royal, Virginia, the country music singer/songwriter released his first EP "Up on the Drive" in 2016. This EP helped him gain traction with his music career around his hometown, the Shenandoah Valley, and further. Along with his EP, Ryan was a runner-up in the 2015 Texaco Country Showdown, a nationwide talent search, which solidified Ryan's calling for a music career. Ryan has had the privilege of being the opening act for some major country artist's such as Marty Stuart and Lauren Alaina. He has also shared the stage with fellow Nashville artists, and Clemson buddies, Cody Webb and Doug McCormick. Ryan's rich, baritone vocals, paired with his authentic songwriting, which reflect his own life experiences, have help build him a strong fan base who enjoy Ryan's "what you see is what you get" style of shows and attitude. When Ryan moved to Nashville in 2017, he hit the ground running; signing a management deal with Harmony Music Group Mgt just two weeks after moving to town. "If we didn't sign him, someone would've jumped all over him as soon as he opened his mouth around town and started singing" - (Fred Conley) He started singing demo's for many established writers around town and soon after, began writing with many of those same writer's. Ryan recently released his second studio EP "Heads, i'm yours..." to all digital platforms and is currently selling hard copies along with new merchandise at all of his shows. BRANDI BEHLEN“Passionate. Talented. Dreamer."These are some of the words that come to mind when describing Brandi Behlen. For her, music is not just about entertainment: it's a very special form of communication that can reach deep into a person's soul. This award winning Texas-based country singer and songwriter loves to share her songs with the world. There is no gig too small or too big, and there is no place where she wouldn't play as long as there is an audience. She has performed all over the state and beyond, winning over her audience with catchy melodies, earnest lyrics, and great showmanship.Brandi is a risk taker with her sound, always challenging herself to set the bar higher. At the same time, her songs have a warm, familiar vibe to them, echoing the tradition of the best country artists. Her voice is energetic, yet uplifting and relatable. Whether she is singing a mellow ballad or an upbeat track, she knows how to hit the spot and create the perfect atmosphere. Through her music, she hopes to inspire people the same way her grandpa and uncles inspired her, as she would sit there as a child awestruck, watching them play their band and charm the audience!Brandi's debut single, "Daddy's Money", peaked at #31 on Texas Regional Radio Report in 2019. Brandi followed "Daddy's Money" with a few other singles- all topping in the top 40 in the Texas charts. She even put out a couple Christmas songs. Currently, Brandi is promoting her debut EP out of Nashville. The record is available NOW!Stay tuned to find out more and let the music tell you the rest of the story.”
Check out our line of moto helmet chin mounts for action cameras here - https://wannabes.life Check out Johnny Weisman on Instagram here - https://www.instagram.com/therideshopaz/ Johnathan Weisman is a legend of a suspension mechanic, handling most of the suspension work for some of the top Sherco Factory riders, including greats like Destry Abbott, Cody Webb, and Louse Forsley (who all happen to have also been our Mobcast guests recently, I'm sure that's just a coincidence). Because of his experience running race level enduro suspension for so many of the riders we're so impressed with, we figured Johnny would be the ideal person to come talk to you all about how you can maximize your own suspension outcomes. We were not disappointed! Johnny pretty much blew our minds, ok maybe not literally, but he did really impress us with his approach, ideas, and intuition when it came down to how suspension actually works. Most people know there are springs (or air), some oil, and some little clickers that make things different. But how it all comes together into a comprehensive "theory of suspension" is as black box as, well real black boxes. Few people, us included, have any real sense for what happens inside those shiny canisters, it's probably magic right? Talking with Johnny was so eye opening because he demystified how it all works together, how your riding style impacts your choices, and he tells us where to start when thinking about suspension tuning for the first time. Anyway, before we spoil it all, just go listen for yourselves, you will not be disappointed. We do need to quickly thank you for bearing with our audio issues on this episode. We had some technical difficulties, basically it was a shitshow of poor podcast operations (all on us, no fault of Johnny). We're getting it dialed, listen to this one because it's worth it, we'll have our act together next time, we promise. Cooper talked to us about how he got started in Enduro Cross, having really pursued his riding career since he was a teenager and now as a factory rider here in the United States for the FactoryOne Sherco Team. Cooper gave us a ton of really great advice about bikes and riding as well as a glimpse into what it is like to be a professional rider. As an up and coming name in the sport, Cooper said that he is excited for the next several years of racing, improving his technical skills, learning from the legend and now team mate Cody Webb, and becoming a regular podium finisher in not only Enduro Cross here in the US but also the FIM Super Enduro and Extreme series in Europe as well. Like many trials riders he saw the rise of hard enduro and enduro cross here in the United States. It wasn't long before Cody jumped on an enduro bike and quickly rose to the top of the sport. Cody Webb gave us a ton of great riding advice and insights into the life of a pro enduro rider. We didn't get a chance to ask all of the questions that we wanted so we will have to do a part two podcast to finish the conversation.
Many know his name and have given him the nickname The GOAT! Cody Webb is a true legend when it comes to the world of Extreme Enduro!Raised in a home where riding was a normal and regular activity, Cody was raised to ride motorcycles first, bicycles second. He still keeps that rule in effect 30 years later! Mom and Dad raised Cody to love the sport. When it was time for Dad to step back and focus on his son, that is when you really see things to change in the Webb family.Cody is also very traditional when it comes to landing sponsorships. The podcast has been on a bit of theme of late as we have discussed riders who have transitioned from Trials to Hard Enduro. Today is a continuation of that theme as we chat with Trials champion and the USAs lead Hard Enduro rider: Cody Webb. Cody is an unbelievably easy to talk to guy which makes this interview all the more special. I think were able to get below the surface and find out what makes him tick. Cody's accomplishments in trials in the USA culminated in his 2010 win of the NATC Pro Class Championship after a number of years of 2 place. He's also won gold at the TdN and the ISDE putting in him rare company. This chat goes into reflections on the difficulties with making Hard Enduro events suitable for Pros & amateur riders; dealing with injuries; his thoughts on the next generation of Hard Enduro riders in the USA; trying to build parity between Hard Enduro in the USA and Europe; and what is getting him excited next. Just a heads up that at about 45 mins into this chat there is some background noise that I did my best to suppress, but some of it trickled through. Cody Webb started doing stand-up in Eugene, Ore., back in 2016 and he's still at it in 2021. Growing up on Mitch Hedberg, Webb found an open mic while at the University of Oregon and kept telling jokes while getting his Master's at Boston University. He came back to Oregon in August 2020 and has been waiting out the pandemic in Portland. From a young age my next guest was obsessed with bikes. An American professional motorcycle trials rider and endurocross racer. He has many championships, in my opinion his biggest achievement was gaining world wide recognition as being the first American to podium at the Red Bull hair scramble in Erzberg, placing 2 his first attempt and 3rd his second time out.
