In this episode we start out saying the main topic is how to get back into training after a break, but we go off topic a bit with epigenetics and evolution and how it can relate to our training and nutrition. Epigenetics is basically how your behaviours and environment can affect the ways your genes work. These changes are reversible and don't change your DNA sequence. Welcome to Season 7 episode 8. In this episode we discuss various ‘metabolic' diets and why we do not recommend them. These diets range from creating diet plans based on your metabolic type to using various health markers obtained through bloodwork. Many of them adopt keto principles. We talk through how these types of diets are marketing so successfully. What metabolism is. What are the different metabolic ‘types'. The basic strategy these diets implement. Case study of a certain metabolic programme based in Kenya. How they generally down regulate metabolism & cause hormonal dysfunction. The importance of lifestyle and getting the basics right. If you are willing to spend upwards of $900 on such programmes you would be better off working with a good coach who cares about your health and can recommend and read comprehensive blood work. All three of us have helped clients whose metabolisms, hormones and mental health are not in a good place after these diets. If you need help don't hesitate reaching out to any of us for coaching or advice.

Welcome to Season 7 episode 4. This episode is all about how not to diet a female. Over the years all of us have been sent terrible meal plans clients have been given and often worked to help those clients recover their health. Recently Andy took on such a client who had been given a 700 calorie diet in preparation for a bodybuilding competition. In addition to eating only 700 calories, she was also doing 2 hours of cardio a day. We use this example to show you the implications to your health from under eating, over training and generally putting your body under so much stress. Women are much more complicated than men to diet due to their hormones. The repercussions for female hormonal health following such extreme dieting can be enormous. We talk you through what can happen hormonally and metabolically by following such ridiculous protocols. We also discuss the best way to diet females, what to look for in a good coach and more advice about prepping for a bodybuilding competition. Whilst this episode is mainly targeted at women who want to compete in bodybuilding it still is very important for the general population woman too! We often see that they also get put on such crazy meal plans even without an extreme end goal like a bodybuilding competition. We really hope this gives you more information on red flags to look out for with a coach and also that always prioritise your health.
