In the latest episode of Anabolic Radio I had the pleasure of chatting to @FORTITUDE_TRAINING where we discuss Nuances of Range of Motion.Range of motion is simply the objective measurement our joints/muscles are able to move through..In every exercise there will be 4 phases of a rep:Eccentric (in a squat that will be the downwards motion)Isometric in the Lengthened position (bottom of a squat)Concentric (upwards motion in a squat)Isometric in the Shortened position (top of a squat).For myself and my clients I always program tempo, which is simply allowing us to standardize how long we spend in each 4 phase of a rep. This is incredibly important when it comes to standardization of what you're doing during a set..Back to range of motion- as of late in the industry people have been off their rocker about emphasizing the lengthened position in an exercise. I'm really now into my routine of getting a good session in the morning and everyday is better. Lastly, makes me feel embarrassed a wee bit to ask, but usually when I finish my evenings I look down at my belly and i'm just wondering where it came from....because even with a hard session in the morning...and eating well...does this mean I'm possibly overeating even if it's healthy?? Ive been tossing up a return to footy for the past few months, and literally my first step was start listening to you again and now I'm keen! about me: Im a tight head prop played a high level for many years, I retired two years ago but have itchy feet again and want to get back to state that I can start preseason in January. Did some baseline testing last weekend. 1RM squat 210kg, 1RM Dead 200kg, 1RM Bench 165kg, bronco time 5min 42 sec. So strength is good but aerobic condition is terrible. Ive always lifted whilst not playing because I love the tin but have done literally zero cardio since retiring. Im 5ft 11 sitting at 130kg when I retired i was around 115kg. So two things I want to ask mate and I probably already have a fair idea of the answer probably just need to hear it again from you to reinforce it. re training: I work full time, not a big morning person so My training is mainly in the evenings. So in terms of training I've drawn up 4 full body sessions (1 exercise for chest, back, shoulders, arms, legs, 3 sets x 10 reps). PLus a little 10min burner at the end of each gym session. Many guys use growth hormone in order to build up their body composition and reverse aging. Does it really achieve this, or does it actually do more harm than good? What is the pharmacology of injectable testosterone? What is the best way to work out if you want to live long and be functional? On this episode, I’m joined by the founder of Fortitude Training, Dr. Scott Stevenson, to go really deep on these topics. People would rather inject something instead of just changing their lifestyle, but major lifestyle changes are have so much more payoff. -Dr. Scott Stevenson   Three Takeaways Pharmacokinetics is what the body does to the drugs, and pharmacodynamics is what the drug does to the body.   When you just give 22 kDA growth hormone, you’re not really replacing growth hormone from an endogenous production standpoint, because the body produces two forms of it. One of the side effects of growth hormone administration is the loss of insulin sensitivity. Metabolic stress is a very important stimulus for muscle growth. At the start of the show, Scott shared why greatest thing that can come from our lives is learning to be self-actualized, and why so few people reach that point. Next we talked about interindividual differences that play a role In the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of injectable testosterone. We also talked about the two types of growth hormones, and how replacement therapy only deals with one of them.     We also discussed: Training over 40 and the beauty of resistance training What causes the antibody response with growth hormone The counterfeiting crisis with growth hormone   Increasing growth hormone does nothing for life expansion, and its impact on body composition is not significant. You basically end up with a bunch of negative side effects, which don’t bode well from an anti-aging and health standpoint. While it makes sense from an evolutionary perspective for us to look for the quick fix and the easy way out, there is no injection that can take the place of a healthy lifestyle, eating well, working out and getting enough sleep. If we want a real payoff with our health, this is where we should put our effort.   Guest Bio- Dr. Scott W.
