Ryan, Dave and stalwart friend of the show Justin O'Hanley follow another man on the run following the previous episode on "Minority Report". This time it's the OG mistaken identity thriller from Alfred Hitchcock, starring Cary Grant as a wily ad exec who finds himself mistaken for a government agent by some very bad people led by suave and debonair James Mason. Also, Ryan drops some Jimmy Stewart vocals unprompted, Dave provides some cool tidbits about Mount Rushmore, and Justin generally shares his love of one of his favorite feel-good classics.

Also, Dave takes immediate issue with the moral quandary at the center of the movie, Justin reveals his favorite cocky killer trope in thrillers, and Ryan receives dispiriting news about James Cromwell that absolutely has not been cut from this episode. Sorry, Justin.

Ryan and Dave are back to dig up a cult satire perhaps best left buried, as Dave finally gets his revenge on Ryan for inflicting "Hard Ticket to Hawaii" on him, all those moons ago. With an equal parts disturbing and hilariously over-the-top Bill Paxton performance, Wayne Newton in a prominent role for some reason, and Judd Nelson before he disappeared off the face of the earth, this film was... certainly something. Also, Ryan detects echoes of Lynch and Jeunet in director Adam Rifkin's dystopian presentation, while Dave waxes nostalgic over the niche video store where he found this movie in the first place.

Also, Dave wonders how phantoms can have gum disease, Ryan brings up his vampire/western script unprompted again because he's a narcissist, and Justin duly chastises Ryan for cracking a bad egg joke. But it all begins here with a group of hobbits, Hugo Weaving's terrifying eyebrows and a surprisingly badass geriatric wizard fight in a tower. Also, Dave immediately regrets asking nerd Ryan about deeper Tolkien mythology, while Justin relates his convincing theory about just how lonely Gollum was in that cave for 500 years. While overshadowed by New York gangster films like "Goodfellas" since its release, it's a well-executed genre piece that boasts Julia Roberts's brother's most fun performance. Also, Ryan and Dave play a fun game of "straight person and fuck-up" buddy team-ups of multiple genders and generations, while Dave gets maximum enjoyment out of Mickey Rourke's authentically enraged tantrum scene where Rourke gives a fridge a little taste of the future boxer's power game; unfortunately for his fight career, he forgot that people, unlike fridges, punch back. Next week, Dave's next pick is not, in fact, "Seven Years of Night", but another South Korean thriller entirely - "I Saw The Devil"!

Ryan and Dave go deep into the Hollywood vault for a lesser known WWII POW movie about an enterprising American soldier (George Segal) and his sometimes unscrupulous methods of surviving the worst of a Japanese prison camp in Singapore. Overlooked in the shadows of giants like Bridge on the River Kwai and Stalag 17, the film, while not as great as those, still shines as an entertaining piece of cinema for its era. Also, Ryan has to clarify the mating ritual of blue whales to a confused Dave, while Dave is fascinated by the breakdown of hierarchies in controlled environments. In addition, returning guest star Andrew Campbell, he of the magic guitar and dulcet tones, serenades you the audience with a specially improvised "King Rat" theme song. Next week, Ryan's next pick continues the trend of his previous choice, this time with a significantly increased Cage Factor - "Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans"!

Ryan and Dave test your patience by ceding the opening intro to a pair of impostor Harvey Keitels. But AFTER that, your hosts take their rightful places and proceed to dissect the disturbing early-'90's indie drama from Abel Ferrara, starring Keitel as the worst cop in the world. As the viewer, you're forced to be there every step of the way as he trolls New York City committing casual burglaries, sexual assaults and reckless discharges of a firearm (to name only a few of his many crimes, yikes...). But is redemption possible, even for a scumbag of this magnitude? It's the central question of the piece, and one Ryan and Dave dig into with gusto. Also, Dave comes up with a surprisingly awesome "Bad Lieutenant" reboot idea that Ryan is super excited to see, while Ryan tries to explain why the film's best scene (in his opinion) is also one of its two most repugnant and near unwatchable ones. Next week, the WWII POW war movie subgenre gets some love with Dave's next pick - "King Rat"!

The leeeeeegendary Ryan and the leeeeeegendary Dave immerse themselves in the strange world of Neil Hamburger, the intentionally off-putting stand-up character created by comedian/actor Gregg Turkington. Joined by familiar faces like John C. Reilly and Michael Cera, Turkington and director Rick Alverson take us on a surreal, David Lynch-esque journey into the lonely mind of a uniquely twisted performance artist. Also, Ryan and Dave continue their discussion about modern comedy and "political correctness" that began with last week's review of "The King of Comedy", where Ryan does some John C. Reilly impressions and Dave coins the term "blackologist". Next week, Ryan's next pick brings perennial favorite Harvey Keitel back to the forefront where he belongs - "Bad Lieutenant"!

In addition, your hosts discuss all the hot-button issues around celebrity and the stand-up comedy scene of today; Dave breaks down Louis C.K.'s controversial return to work, while Ryan tries his damnedest to explain the difference between free speech and the sense of entitlement to be free of consequences FOR said speech. Next week, Dave's next pick keeps the theme going with a different type of stand-up comic in the spotlight - "Entertainment"!

Dave returns to his rightful co-host chair in this week's episode, the final stop before Christmas festivities overtake your hosts like a holly jolly tsunami of spiked nogs and yuletide logs. Ryan and Dave talk a bit about the underwhelming but serviceable sequel to Terry Zwigoff's 2003 cult classic "Bad Santa" (to honor their commitment, of course), but a majority of time is spent chatting about a soon-to-be cult classic from right here on Prince Edward Island! Created by the Island's preeminent comedic filmmaking savant, Jeremy Larter, "Pogey Beach" is hilarious, heartfelt and chock to the gills with clever movie references, from "Jaws" to "Goodfellas" to "Pulp Fiction" to "Grease" of all things. Ryan apologizes for some overzealous spoilers in the process of discussing his favorite jokes, while Dave tries his hand at hosting early on in the guise of a mild-mannered Australian. Ryan and Justin delve deep into the bizarre '60's psychosexuality, rampant strangeness, sometimes confusing mythology and literary origins of an original Fleming adaptation that served as George Lazenby's one and only outing as 007. It's also the only Christmas-themed Bond movie! In addition, Ryan tries to contextualize the Blofeld character continuity from book to screen, while Justin finds a hilarious practical use for Christoph Waltz's Blofeld dialogue from SPECTRE. Next week, Dave returns for his next holiday pick - "Bad Santa 2"!

The Christmas season officially kicks off for The Ryan & Dave Show, and your hosts begin their festive onslaught with Terry Zwigoff's 2003 cult classic dark comedy, starring Billy Bob Thornton as the second worst mall Santa ever employed (the first is revealed by Dave, whose research discovers the worst of the worst who've ever donned the jolly red suit). Not so much the usual review as much as a hodgepodge rehash of their favorite jokes and moments, Ryan and Dave also indulge in fond reminiscences of the late John Ritter and Bernie Mac, and tee up the 2016 sequel, to be reviewed later this month. Next week, however, brings your hosts on a detour to James Bond Land, as friend of the show Justin O'Hanley makes his annual holiday visit to review the Christmas-set Bond film, "On Her Majesty's Secret Service"!

Ryan and Dave offer their own unique brand of play-by-play as they watch one of the quintessential '80's Arnold movies that boasts a load of glistening brawn, endearing cliches and puns, Reagan-era machismo and some excessively explosive action sequences (with a few hilariously ill-timed squibs). Also, Ryan takes it as an opportunity to indulge himself in Arnold and Jesse Ventura impressions, while Dave delights in experiencing the film for the first time since his theatrical visit back in '87. Local musical prodigy and Charlottetown comedian Andrew Campbell joins Ryan and Dave in the studio to ride shotgun straight into the belly of the beast, that being Panos Cosmatos's visionary, LSD-laced rampage of revenge starring Nicolas Cage. Cage is Red, an initially mild-mannered wood-cutter turned crazed, drug-fueled man-cutter as he takes on a whacked-out hippy cult led by Jeremiah Sand (Linus Roache) and his assorted minions for daring to mess with his beloved Mandy (Andrea Riseborough). Also, Dave thinks the whole movie is Nicolas Cage tripping balls, and as a sidebar, points out how Ryan can find any and every connection to Batman for every movie they do, while Andrew sprinkles his opinion in here and there like an occasional pinch of audio oregano. Next week, the highly anticipated 100th episode rolls around, and with it comes another audio commentary by your hosts - John McTiernan's action classic "Predator" (with another potential special guest)!

The film is pretty straightforward and your hosts' ensuing review is pretty streamlined as a result, but the underlying themes and subject matter lend themselves to thought-provoking conversation in the back half of the episode, so stick around for that, y'all. Viddy well, viddy well! It's raining outside while they record, but Ryan and Dave aren't singing in it so much as puzzling out their own moral codes when it comes to the notion of justice and criminal rehabilitation. Stanley Kubrick's intentionally repellent masterpiece asks tough questions and provides no easy answers, and your hosts find some interesting discussion within the grey areas of civilized law and order. Renowned for its gratuitous sex and violence, it's perhaps Kubrick's most thought-provoking work outside of "2001" and "The Shining". In addition, Ryan attempts to read a paragraph from Irvine Welsh's "Trainspotting" in honor of "A Clockwork Orange's" notoriously slangy and hard-to-read reputation, while Dave unearths some cool behind-the-scenes factoids about Kubrick's process in making the movie.
