Cody Wilson is the founder of the Austin-based Defense Distributed — the first private defense contractor in service of the general public. Since 2012's Wiki Weapon project, pioneered by Wilson, Defense Distributed has defined the state of the art in small scale, digital, personal gunsmithing technology. In the years since it began the project has evolved from rudimentary single shot pistols in to full-scale at-home weapons creation with unlimited options. Now, potential customers no longer need to order metal parts online to complete their weapons and instead can build from scratch right in their own home. Predictably, the nature of Wilson's activism and enterprise has put a target on his back yet he has consistently persevered, winning a landmark First Amendment case to keep 3D-printed gun plans online — despite Obama, Trump, and Biden all fighting against him. In this podcast, Matt and Jason discuss with Wilson how distributing the means of self-defense can level the playing field between tyrants and their subjects and how a well armed society is a more peaceful society. We talk about the current attacks on your right to self-defense and how we can not only fight them but circumvent them altogether. This is a must listen show. This is the inaugural Garage Hour Dude Food Chili Showoff, live from Protector Brewery. This is also gearhead awesomeness. #1: Do you like chili? We made four. Ruben from Smoke 'N Aces' watermelon chili beat Chef Jeff's pork cushion chili verde for "People's Choice" by one vote. Mr. G's salsa and two-bean chili and Hostus Maximus Justin Fort's two-meat chilis were popular, but could not measure up to the professional chefs. #2: Do you remember where you were on 9/11? We take a serious moment for reflections on where we were, why we re-enlisted, how we felt and how many Tomcats we scrambled on 9/11. #3: Do you want your multibillion-dollar car company to be headed by a pot-smoking vampire? We debate Elon "Caligula" Musk and his progress in circling the drain. Because we're awesome, that ain't all, folks. Direct from Pizza-Wrench Monkey Oven Brewing, there's also halal VS anti-halal chili, why 3-D printed guns are a First Amendment before they're a Second Amendment issue, and sorry about the delayed upload - server issues.
The podcast checks in on how the SRA is doing, Cody Wilson skirts around his injunction by selling hard copies of the liberator code, a Department of Education report is 95% wrong about school shootings, California passes a law to let your boss tell a judge to take your guns away, the Oath Keepers form an anti-leftist training program like it's 1932 all over again, the police have trouble keeping transgender individuals safe, Elon Musk is insane, California takes on the FCC, Trump says Google is being mean to him, a sports player makes an ironically good point about gun control, and finally Latino citizens get their citizenship stripped by the border. Late stage capitalism has never been so simultaneously hilarious and terrifying. The SRA can be contacted @SocialistRA or socialistra.org, and the host can be contacted @HumvaDev or u/AlexHumva. Legally Insane 3D Guns For Everyone? - Episode 43 Today Matt and Tony jump into a hot topic that’s been circulating in the news recently; the printing of 3D guns. The 3D gun known as the “Liberator” was created by radical Cody Wilson. Cody Wilson is a self proclaimed “Crypto Anarchist” and the founder of Defense Distributed. In 2013 Cody posted the blueprints to make these digital weapons. Within days of posting, the US Department of State demanded they be removed from the Internet. Just this past week, the ban on releasing the blueprints to build these guns was overturned. Highlights: [05:34] – The files to build the 3D gun were originally released on the website Defense Distributed. The file is only of use if you have a 3D printer. [07:50] – The Undetectable Fire Arms Act of 1988 banned any firearm that is not detectable from a walk-through metal detector. Glock’s in the mid 80s were made from a lightweight polymer. You could bend them into different shapes, making them undetectable. [14:55] – Cody Wilson was listed as the 14th most dangerous person in the world. [15:40] – The 3D gun the “Liberator” is named after The Liberator guns in World War 2 that were known as single shooter guns. [20:04] – 10,000 people have downloaded the blueprints to make this gun. [22:25] – Psychological Reactance (The Streisand Effect). The Takeaway – Technology is evolving quicker than our laws.
