Critically acclaimed, award-winning writer/director/producer Steve Silverman's work has been called ‘Sly' by the Los Angeles Times, which is his all-time favorite single-word review. Theatre includes All About Steve, not a one-man show but a twist on the classic film All About Eve, his horror comedy 666 Westbourne Drive, and his musical mashups Jesus Christ Super Star Wars & The King and I Know What You Did Last Summer. Speaking of the force, he's the force behind the one-woman show festivals 15 Minutes of FEM and the standup comedy show Slideshow. To eat and get health insurance, Steve is an award-winning writer/producer/director in the world of on-air promotions where he's worked for FOX, ABC, CBS, NBC, Bravo, several ad agencies, and most recently, Hulu. He's directed Whoopi Goldberg, Reba McEntire, Mindy Kaling, Zooey Deschanel, the original Fab Five from Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, and more … Steve's just finished the first draft of a new novel, a ‘cozy' murder mystery, and you can hear him weekly on his podcast, World Gone Good where he talks to everyday people making good here on planet Earth including our very own Heather Vickery. His first BIG intentional risk was turning down a paying job, right out of college, to become an unpaid intern for soap opera, General Hospital. Steve is the “king” of quitting! Really it's just getting new information and making a different decision. Adults can be bullies. But you don't have to accept that bullshit. Trust your instincts - the universe has your back. When people tell you who they are, believe them. Steve's podcast, “A World Gone Good” came about because the world was falling apart and he really wanted to put some joy back into the world. This week, it's ‘All About Sandy', as Matthew and Eddie dive into two of Sandra Bullock's most iconic roles to date: her Oscar-nominated turn in the outer space epic, GRAVITY, and her puzzling choice to play Mary Magdalene Horowitz in the 2009 flop, ALL ABOUT STEVE.
Matthew "Call Me Dad" Marshment joins us for the remake of a Swayze Classic, and to offer his opinions on Mount Clemens, male bodies (#thiccboistatus), and sick whips! Then he blows our minds with a galaxy-brain take on propaganda films. This is really Goldilocks Jones episode. Corrections: I missed a bonus point, so that's TWO bonus tracker knives. Also, John Mathis and John Milius are different guys, and only one made Red Dawn. Regarding Academy Awards and Razzies, from most-recent to least: Mel Gibson won a Razzie Redeemer award and Oscar for "Hacksaw Ridge" in 2017 - and that Razzie barely counts (plus Mel GIbson can suck our collective dicks - no homophobia). In 2010, Sandra Bullock won a Razzie for "All About Steve" the same weekend that she won Best Actress at the Oscars for "The Blind Side," which is now a joke in a Bo Burnham song. In 2004 Halle Berry accepted her Razzie (in person) for Worst Actress, in Catwoman, while holding an Academy Award for her performance in "Monster's Ball."

All About Steve (2009) // Dir. Phil Traill Sandra Bullock and Bradley Cooper are a pair of absolute stars. Hollywood legends! Beloved! This flick is not beloved. Unjustly? We'll be the judge.
Dawn saw Nic Cage's new movie "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent" and loved it! Plus what did she think of "All About Steve," her forced movie assignment. And she assigned Alexis a scary movie for next Friday.
The Razzies Winners came out recently so we go over an infamous movie that won the Razzie for Worst Actress (the same year she won Best Actress). It's All About Steve this week! Plus we also cover the Razzies of this year.
No, we're not reviewing the 2009 Sandra Bullock/Bradley Cooper comedy "All About Steve." We're going through our friend Steve's top 100 list. Some surprising picks, some not so surprising picks, but rest assured, they're all Steve. Apologies for my poor audio quality. This was our first recording from the road, I believe, so I didn't have my good mic with me in the hotel room. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/lineofsight/message
The Bradley Cooper vehicle All About Steve is discussed and Howard explains his twitter hiatus.
What movie would you just watch over and over again? For Jake, it's Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, Kim's pick is Just Go With It, and Kalee's is You've Got Mail. But today, we're going to be talking about movies that have let us down and have burned us! HIGHLIGHTS FROM THIS WEEK'S SHOW: The second of the Star Wars trilogy, The Last Jedi, just let Jake down. This movie had a new director and they just ruined the characterizations of most characters. Why we think the Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life was the worst mini-series ever! Kalee hates My Bestfriend's Wedding. Why did Julia Roberts' character made her cringe? Kim's pick is Message in a Bottle. She didn't realize Nicholas Sparks has this pattern. The first two releases of the The Godfather were perfect, but we didn't like the third one. (Check out our The Godfather movie night theme as well as our recipe for Clemenza's spaghetti.) Why The Suicide Squad (the second one) didn't blow Kim away. Now, Jake explains why he thinks superheroes movies should be “the weirder, the better” Other movies that just burned us: Hanging Up, City of Angels, Donnie Darko (why Jake thinks it's the worst movie ever made), All About Steve, Kate and Leo's movie reunion Revolutionary Road, and The Shape of Water. We return for our fourth series of nostalgic film reviews, this week Chris chose All About Steve and may have taken the challenge of choosing a bad film to start the series a little too seriously. Is it as bad as its reputation? Yes. Yes it is. Maybe even worse.
Where your heroes try to redeem All About Steve
Part Romcom, part Thriller, part Horror film? Yeah, Rene and Max are as confused by 2009's All About Steve as anyone would be. There's so many questions about the choices the filmmakers made for this film which all devolve into one overarching question: why would you release this film? That is an interesting question that Rene has a strong theory about. Have a listen to the episode and find out more about this chaotic film.

This week on Open Sources Guelph, we're at the anger stage of grief. The anger is directed at our bloody, complex past and the discovery of more crimes against Canada's Indigenous peoples, but it's also directed at some politicians in the United States who want to forget the recent past. After working through our grief, we will talk to Ontario's Liberal leader, and the fight he's getting ready for one year from today! This Thursday, June 3, at 5 pm, Scotty Hertz and Adam A. Donaldson will discuss: Uncover Story. The news that a mass grave of Indigenous youths was discovered on the property of the old Kamloops Indian Residential School shocked the nation, and put Truth and Reconciliation back on the proverbial front burner. Now, more than six years after the TRC delivered its 94 recommendations, we're still lagging dangerously behind in creating equity with out Indigenous communities. So what happens next? Court Authority. Last week, a vote to establish a bipartisan commission to investigate the Capitol insurrection on January 6 failed in the U.S. Senate. It's just one of several signs over the last few months that the American right isn't just moving towards authoritarianism, but are wholeheartedly embracing it. Can American democracy be salvaged, or are we doomed to watch the slow-motion coup from afar? All About Steve. Wednesday marked the official one-year countdown to the 2022 Provincial Election, and although all the parties have a lot on the line, the real test will be for our special guest this week, Liberal leader Steven Del Duca. On the show this week, Del Duca will talk about what's at stake with the next election, his opinion of the government's latest pandemic moves, and his enthusiasm to win Guelph again for the red team. Open Sources is live on CFRU 93.3 fm and cfru.ca at 5 pm on Thursday.
The two biggest award winners for All About movies! Yes, we have a special treat for your Oscar season listening. We present a double episode, this time covering ALL ABOUT EVE and ALL ABOUT STEVE. Despite the similar names, they are not in the least bit similar themselves. Following are two quotes from reviews, see if you can work out which is the classic. “It has substance in virtually every dramatic and romantic mood, which have been given proper shading and projection by producer Darryl F. Zanuck and Mankiewicz. The segue from the commentary school of cinematurgy, to bridge the flashback sequences, into the vignettes is unobtrusive but an effective technique to tie up the entire package which ends with Miss Baxter hugging the coveted trophy–and a stranger to her friends.” “If it didn't come from a major studio, I would think the film is a satire of romantic comedies, or at least some kind of avant-garde experiment in testing the limits of audience identification.” Yeah, so they’re basically the same movie. Mike and Dave discuss the difficulties of fame, awful male friendship, how Bette Davis is the greatest female star in history, and how one of these movies is worse than THE BLIND SIDE. Also we talk about when he worked at Disney World as a performer and reluctant character, he nailed Friar Tuck! This week on Open Sources Guelph, it's time to look at Ontario politics again. We've got a new Liberal leader to talk about, and while the current Ontario government's definitely got 99 problems, Steven Del Duca is definitely one. In other news, we'll also talk about the global and local effects of our newly-minted pandemic, and we'll head to Europe where there's new concerns about the treatment of migrants at one particular border. This Thursday, March 12, at 5 pm, Scotty Hertz and Adam A. Donaldson will discuss: All About Steve. Surprising no one, former Vaughan MPP and Minister of Transportation Steven Del Duca has been named the new leader of the Liberal Party of Ontario. Del Duca now has the unenviable task of trying to rebuild the party, even while the Liberals are out front with the advantage in popular support, but Del Duca was part of Kathleen Wynne's team and he also has to find a way to overcome those lingering negative feelings about the previous government. Can he do it? Ford Rough. Speaking of the present Premier of Ontario, Doug Ford, it's not like he's having a good time right now either as a leader. Between the concerns over the spread of COVID-19, the ongoing labour strife with teachers, starting a fight with Ottawa over transit funding, and the unforced snafu involving license plates, these are tough times for the the PC government, and that's before the budget drops on March 25. We'll talk about how it's going for our old friend Doug. The Big Sick. The novel coronavirus, or COVID-19, is now officially a pandemic according to the World Health Organization, and the outbreak is touching all areas of life from commerce, to politics, to entertainment and sporting events. The Canadian government is trying to create a feeling of determined calm, while the American government is divided between the advise of health experts and positive thinking through flagrant self-promotion by the President. But seriously, how concerned should we be about COVID-19? Border Patrol. Violence has been escalating along the Greco-Turkish border in recent weeks as Turkey has opened their side of the for migrants to cross over and enter Greece, mostly out of spit because Recep Tayyip Erdogan says the EU owes Turkey money. Greece, meanwhile, has been trying to stop the migrants with extreme severity, and that hasn't helped the long-standing tensions between these two countries. So how does all this border friction get resolved? Open Sources is live on CFRU 93.3 fm and cfru.ca at 5 pm on Thursday.

Is it solvable? Is it entertaining? Does it sparkle? This is the metric by which Sandra Bullock's character, Mary Magdalene Horowitz judges crossword puzzles. This week, Kait is expressing her appreciation for Sandra Bullock. All of her triumphs and her missteps, including this week's topic, All About Steve. Plus, Victoria and Kait read old journals.
Many years before All About Steve was a forgettable romcom starring Sandra Bullock, All About Steve was a real dick-slappy gay porno flick loosely based on All About Eve. I know, right? Two movies with the same name! So confusing for all us fans of (hold on checking IMDB to read up on the Bullock / Cooper vehicle) eccentric crossword puzzlers. Anyways! This one is pretty much nonstop sex with the worst soundtrack in the history of cinema. In hindsight, we probably should have talked more about how awful the music is. You’re definitely going to want to watch this movie with the volume all the way down. Oh and maybe turn the picture all the way down too. We didn’t love it. But hey! This podcast is devoted to the breadth (and girth!) of our adult cinema landscape. Which means this week? We talk just a lot about dicks.
