Since their second album, Ants From Up There, bagged my album of the year in 2022, and promptly lost their iconic leader - no British indie act has gone through more change. Now firmly ensconced in their Harry Potter House Band/Music Hall Indie phase with a beguiling, detailed and unique baroque new album.
Our guests today are the beloved British indie collective Black Country, New Road. The acclaimed art-rock band recently returned with their third studio album Forever Howlong—a bold and beautiful leap forward in both sound and spirit. Following the 2022 departure of frontman Isaac Wood—just before the release of their beloved second album Ants From Up There—the six remaining members embraced a new, collaborative direction. With no single frontperson, the group now shares the spotlight, crafting a more eclectic, playful, and emotionally resonant sound connecting with fans worldwide. In today's episode, we're joined by Luke Mark and Georgia Ellery to chat about the creative process behind Forever Howlong, working with producer James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, Kylie Minogue), and how this record marks a new era for the band. We also dive into standout track “For The Cold Country” and explore how the band is navigating this exciting chapter together.Black Country, New Road: Instagram / Spotify Purchase Forever Howlong and find Black Country, New Road tour dates hereVisit our official website here and follow us across our socials.
Originally recorded August 22, 2024. This album by the Cambridge collective not only breaks the sophomore slump, but manages to be one of the greatest albums of the 2020s, let alone of all time. Filled with music & lyrics both poignant and personal, the band may never be the same after this but our feelings on it will be. It's BCNR's "Ants From Up There"!

For our 2nd edition of our Top of The Drop (best albums of 2022) rundown, we highlighted some bigger acts that we didn't blurb in the article but also gave a nod to some acts we think are very worthy of a listen if you haven't familiarized yet. Tunes from Bey, SZA, Bobby Oroza, Say Sue Me, and Danielle Ponder are definite highlights, along with unexpected surprise Adeem The Artist, who definitly moved us with his fantastic album White Trash Revelry (and we don't even dig country).Tracklist Part I (00:00)Beyonce - PLASTIC OFF THE SOFABeyonce - MOVE feat Grace JonesSAULT - LionSAULT - The Greatest SmileSZA - Ghost in the MachineSZA - Gone Girl feat Phoebe BridgersPart II (30:03)Bobby Oroza - Loving BodyBobby Oroza - Make Me BelieveDanielle Ponder - Some of Us Are BraveDanielle Ponder - Someone Like YouHUNJIYA - OUTGROWN HUNJIYA - FAVORITEHUNJIYA - MAIN CHARACTERPart III (61:03)Adeem The Artist - CarolinaAdeem The Artist - Baptized in Well SpiritsBlack Country, New Road - ConcordeBlack Country, New Road - Chaos Space MachineMakaya McCraven - In These TimesPart IV (91:05)Say Sue Me - Still HereSay Sue Me - Photo of You Alvvays - Easy On Your OwnAlvvays - Lottery NoisesFontaines DC - Jackie Down The LineFontaines DC - I Love You

This week we're discussing Ants From Up There by Black Country, New Road. If you haven't heard of these guys, they're spastic, unpredictable, and surprisingly emotional post-rock from the UK. This is a fascinating album on its own, but days before its release, singer/guitarist Isaac Wood left the band. While they are continuing without him, you have to hear this album to fully appreciate what that means.Ants From Up There by Black Country, New Road:https://open.spotify.com/album/4ZGAjDHKwwcMZSkDALzlSO?si=b09fb9aca9be4df3Patreonhttps://www.patreon.com/everyalbumeverMerchhttps://pandermonkey.creator-spring.com/Mike's EP:Pander Monkey on Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple,Instagram:Mike @pandermonkeyAlex @motherpuncherHistory Tom's stuff:Debut album on Bandcamp, Spotify, AppleSubstackInstagramTwitterFacebook
