On this episode I'm presenting the prologue of my story with the Institute in Basic Life Principles or IBLP - which you may recognize from the Amazon documentary featuring the Duggar family from TLC's 19 Kids and Counting. They may have been on a reality tv show, but this is my story of how these teachings played out in my day to day real life. This is the introduction episode to a series arc on the 7 principles of Bill Gothard.Referenced in this Episode:Shiny Happy People Life of Reason | George SantayanaSEND US A TEXTSupport the Show | Buy Me a CoffeeLeave Us A Voicemail | 980.355.9665 Interact with Mediocre Mystic:Web | Email | Substack | X Twitter | Facebook | Instagram | TikTok | YouTube Subscribe & Follow | Rate & ReviewApple | Spotify | Substack | YouTubeMusic by '86 Aerostar | Logo by Bizri Creative Group
In a years worth of Powercasts we have examined 50 Commands and Teachings of Christ published by a ministry called the Institute of Basic Life Principles (iblp.org). In this episode, Lindsey tells us, in detail, her experience being one of the chosen “Gothard Girls,” and how spending time with Bill Gothard one-on-one shaped her young mind, and lead her to the crusade she now leads to spread awareness of his terrible legacy, and destroy the facade of “goodness” and “holiness” he managed to create. On June 2nd, 2023, the documentary series "Shiny Happy People" premiered on Amazon Prime. While the series' tagline promised to expose some Duggar family secrets, it ended up revealing much more, particularly the work and philosophy of Bill Gothard, the creator of the Institute in Basic Life Principles and the Advanced Training Institute. Gothard's curriculum was marketed as extremely helpful for families in protecting their children, but it ultimately caused incredible harm.Today, a year after the series premiered on Amazon Prime, I'm sitting down with one of the cast members of "Shiny Happy People," Lindsay Williams, to discuss her life journey from starting in IBGP at the age of eight to working alongside Bill Gothard one-on-one at headquarters. We even spent a good chunk of the conversation discussing Lindsay Williams' life now, both as an advocate and as a successful makeup artist who has worked with brands like Vogue and GQ. We explore what it's like transitioning from being a repressed homeschooler to working in the fast-paced world of beauty and fashion. It's an incredible conversation. I thoroughly enjoyed talking to Lindsay; we instantly became friends, and I'm certain you'll love hearing from her in this episode of the Preacher Boys podcast.✖️✖️✖️Support the Show: Patreon.com/PreacherBoys✖️✖️✖️If you or someone you know has experienced abuse, visit courage365.org/need-help✖️✖️✖️CONNECT WITH THE SHOW:preacherboyspodcast.comhttps://www.youtube.com/@PreacherBoyshttps://www.facebook.com/preacherboysdoc/https://twitter.com/preacherboysdochttps://www.instagram.com/preacherboysdoc/https://www.tiktok.com/@preacherboyspodTo connect with a community that shares the Preacher Boys Podcast's mission to expose abuse in the IFB, join the OFFICIAL Preacher Boys Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1403898676438188/*as an amazon associate I may receive a small commission on purchases made through links in these show notesSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/preacher-boys-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

In this episode, we do a deep dive into the theology and philosophies that drove women to pursue a life of protection instead of explore the outside world. The Daughters is an audio documentary exploring the way the Stay at Home Daughter movement - the idea that daughters should never leave the covering of their fathers until and unless they are married - affected those who grew up in it, including in their relationships, careers, education choices, emotions, dress, and religious choices. In this episode, cult survivor Tara Oathout shares her experience growing up in the IBLP cult (think the Duggar Family/Quiverfull Movement) and the impact it had on her life. Tara and Lindsey open up about the effects of purity culture and the shame they felt around sex, despite growing up in 2 different cult environments. Tara and Lindsey also discuss other experiences with religion, including some of the aspects they miss. They explore the stages of anger and ambivalence towards religion, the complexities of faith deconstruction, the longing for corporate worship, and the personal growth and self-discovery that come when one bravely challenges indoctrination. Links: Join the FEEL WITHOUT FEAR Waitlist: this is Lindsey's signature group coaching program for people with Complex PTSD. The group opens in February 2024! Shiny, Happy People documentary About Tara: Tara Oathout may not know the Duggars, but she was still asked to participate along side her husband, Floyd, in the Amazon Prime documentary Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets. The documentary does touch on the famous family of "19 Kids & Counting but primarily uses them as an introduction to the religious, cult-like organization called Institute in Basic Life Principles. The legalistic and toxic ideology put forth by IBLP is deeply imbeded in both Tara's upbringing. In an effort to underscore the harm this belief system is capable of, Tara, and her husband, along with many other survivors, share their stories. Tara is still in her deconstruction era and while she doesn't promise to have the answers, she is deeply motivated to share her journey in an effort to help others shed the shame of Christian fundamentalism. Giving up the "certainty" that a religious life offers is a hard addiction to beat and the journey can be incredibly isolating, but Tara's goal is to find peace, not in the answers, but in herself. She works daily to rebuild a relationship with herself through inner child work, somatic movement, healthy boundaries, therapy and more. The sacrifice for this cause has been monumental, but every time someone finds camaraderie or comfort in her story, Tara knows it was worth it.
You probably are pretty familiar with the Duggar family, from TLC's hit show 19 and Counting. But do you know about the sexual abuse they hid for years? And do you know about the organization, often called a dangerous cult, that shaped their beliefs that may have led to them downplay that sexual abuse, The Institute in Basic Life Principles? This episode is sponsored by Better Help. Have you seen Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets on Prime yet? Ooooof! We have and it's really, really good. Also hard to watch. Also a bit infuriating. In other words: A culty docuseries. If you've already followed the Duggars, the reality TV mega-family behind the hit show 19 Kids and Counting, you know it's all a lot to process. Shiny Happy People gets deep into the weeds of the story behind their story: Chock-full of disturbing insights into their scandals, their demons, and the radical organization underpinning the whole shitshow. That would be the Institute in Basic Life Principles, an evangelical Christian ministry on steroids. Lindsey Williams is featured in Shiny Happy People, and is here to talk with us in this episode about her experience as a former IBLP member, and her personal journey from dug in to “fuck this I'm out.” Our chat covers IBLP founder Bill Gothard and his deranged dogma, what it was like living in the orbit of the embattled Duggar clan, and how Lindsey is doing now that she's a self-proclaimed Shiny Happy Warrior for cult awareness. And just as a heads up, please know that this IBLP organization has some seriously shady philosophies on things like sexual abuse, so this episode may get into gritty territory. Listen with care. Andrew Pledger was raised in a fundamentalist Christian cult and realized in his youth that he was gay. He attended Bob Jones University, which is a fundamentalist Christian college with a chilling history of abuse. While there, Andrew was bullied, harassed, tailed by college employees, and subjected to conversion therapy. In his junior year Andrew was expelled from BJU for publicly denouncing fundamentalism. Andrew is healing and working hard to spread awareness of religious abuse. His new podcast, "Surviving Bob Jones University: A Christian Cult" is exposing BJU's racist and abusive legacy. Andrew's story is of learning to honor your inner voice and follow your intuition, even when everything and everyone around you is telling you it's wrong. Andrew and I had a wonderful talk which I'll be sharing in two parts. This episode is focused on Andrew's experience of being raised in a Christian cult (IFB), the effect indoctrination had on his mental health, and his time at BJU up until the pandemic. Have you seen the Amazon Prime show “Shiny Happy Family: Duggar Family Secrets”? In this episode, Matt and Chris come ready to dive into the truths and lies involving Christianity and the Duggars that they saw in the 4 episodes of the show. They discuss the Catholic role of the husband and father, the education in the Institute in Basic Life Principles, and the importance of fraternal correction. Ultimately, they break open how the IBLP's experience of Christianity is not an authentic experience of Christ. https://ablaze.us/the-village Welcome to the Show by Kevin MacLeod Link: https://incompetech.filmmusic.io/song... America was fascinated with the lives of the Duggars, a devout Christian family with 19 children and their own reality TV show. While they projected an image of wholesomeness on screen, off screen the Duggars tried to cover up allegations their son Josh had molested his sisters. The Duggars' views on marriage, education, and childrearing were formed by the Institute of Basic Life Principles, a radical religious organization that espoused obedient children and subservient wives. Its practices shaped the Duggar household in which their growing kids were oppressed and groomed to be victims. The four-part Prime docuseries “Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets” looks at the truths hidden in plain sight about the ultra-conservative reality TV family. It also explores how the IBLP informed the Duggar's worldview and how its purity culture is masking misogyny and sexual exploitation.OUR SPOILER-FREE REVIEWS OF "SHINY HAPPY PEOPLE" BEGIN IN THE FINAL 14 MINUTES OF THE EPISODE.In Crime of the Week: lying liars who lie.
When a young boy's family joins the Institute in Basic Life Principles cult (as seen on the "Shiny Happy People" doc), his life gets a lot more complicated. Shamed for having a girlfriend at 16, his family moves him out of state then sends him away to an IBLP training/rehabilitation center for "bad kids". The goal, to break his mind, body, and soul into submission. After leaving the cult at 18, he found himself unable to connect with society and he turned to extreme drug and alcohol abuse. This is the inspiring story of how now comedian, Davey Jackson, rose above it all and found peace.Click here to watch on YouTubeFind and support Davey!YouTube: @daveyjaxx IG: @daveyjaxLinkTreeSupport the "Shiny Happy People" charity show in Texas!(clickable chapter markers available on YouTube)Brief IBLP overviewThe lifestyle of an IBLP follower (rules)Umbrella of authority that leads to abuse within the homeTW: Josh Duggar and his child SA he was convicted ofDavey's early childhood when everything changedDating isn't allowed. *TRIGGER & CONTENT WARNING* This episode includes discussions of sexual harassment & assault of women and children in religious spaces. This week we're back in our documentary era and there's lots to learn. We're taking a look at the religious institutions that captured the hearts and minds of millions as we discuss the documentaries Shiny Happy People (Prime Video) & The Secrets of Hillsong (FX). Shiny Happy People follows the meteoric rise of the fundamentalist conservative Duggar family and their impact in popular culture and politics, as well as their formation in the quasi religious structure of the IBLP (Institute in Basic Life Principles) which has negatively impacted many people who have since left with countless stories of sexual, physical, and financial abuse. The Secrets of Hillsong follows the rise & fall of Hillsong Church in the USA & marginally in Australia following countless scandals involving financial & sexual impropriety, and the abuse of power by its leaders. We also touch on the similarities of these docs with one of favourite movies of 2022, Women Talking. We discuss the harmful effects of unchecked power and the ways in which cultures that demand purity and complete submission to ‘authority' in a strict hierarchical culture, all but guarantees conditions conducive to the abuse of its weakest members. This one is illuminating. Instagram: @assumeitwillbebrilliantpod Music: Humblux - S.H.E. Cali Greens - Artillery (Extended Clip) 8, 14, and 18

Well, they did it. They watched the documentary about fundamentalist religion and The Institute in Basic Life Principles on Amazon Prime entitled: SHINY HAPPY PEOPLE. (https://amzn.to/44dDOHP) While The Secrets of Hillsong on Hulu was difficult to get through, Lauren was much more afraid to watch this piece of media as it closely aligns with the life she escaped. Trey doesn't say much on this episode, but if you watch closely, you can see his blood boiling as he gently asks question after question to more deeply understand Lauren's lived experience. If your partner comes from a faith structure that indoctrinated them to believe that they are deeply depraved, we highly recommend watching this documentary for your own benefit. They say a picture says more than a thousand words and for Trey and Lauren this was absolutely the case. Through SHINY HAPPY PEOPLE (which they consistently call the wrong name) Trey was able to learn about: homeschooling, parentification, courtship, headship, absolute authority, corporate and familial discipline, abuse, emotional repression, gender roles, total depravity, and control. Lauren tells story after story and Trey shares that he now understands why her face sometimes changes to that of a child's when she feels she has made a mistake. If you are also a survivor of Religious Indoctrination, click here to schedule a FREE 15-Minute Consult with Lauren today! www.sexedforyou.com/freeconsult She would love to walk you and your partners to freedom and joyful expression of yourselves! Children of Scientology presents: The Lighthouse Project Podcast
Welcome back to the Lighthouse Project, a Children of Scientology Production. This episode includes descriptions and graphic details of rape as we read from a leaked internal letter Jane Doe 1's mother wrote to Scientology leader, David Miscavige, as she tries to escalate "handling" Danny Masterson's rape of her daughter, using Scientology's own incredibly detailed notes from interrogations of Danny Masterson, and Luke Watson and their changing stories. In Scientology speak, she explains her understanding of what happened to her daughter, being forced to accept blame, and being sold very expensive "security checks" (metered interrogations) so that she could take full responsibility for her violent rape, and near-death experience. She was angered by what she perceived as mishandling of the reported rape, and requested David Miscavige put a stop to the actions taken by Scientology officials, which she described as "squirrelly"; not in line with standard technology, and not a correct use of Scientology practices. We compare the tv docu-series "Shiny Happy People" to Scientology, reflect on Scientology as a system, confining its members to its own language, and internal procedures, in which you must refer to the policy before offering an opinion, where the individual's voice is reduced and restricted, and how this comes through in this letter. We draw on our experiences of the effects of Scientology's practices on the inhibition of emotion and our lack of awareness of our personal boundaries and rights. Jane Doe 1's mother hasn't realized yet, this is the way that Scientology treats crimes - victims are blamed & punished, not perpetrators. Her adherence to Scientology keeps her in this closed system rather than involving law enforcement or providing testimony in this trial. Thanks to this letter, we now understand more of Scientology's continued efforts to threaten, silence, and control Jane Doe 1, and how David Miscavige was fully involved and aware. Sharon and Tracey each joined LDM as teenagers, where they met and married their respective spouses during those cult-commune years. Today we're talking all about the Amazon Prime documentary "Shiny, Happy People," which focuses on the Duggar family and the greater theology behind their beliefs (Bill Gothard's Institute in Basic Life Principles). The IBLP and Gothard have been accused of legalism, double standards, and abuse within their doctrine. We start off with some issues the documentary presents as big problems within Duggar/IBLP theology, which include wives submitting to husbands, gender roles, and modesty, among others. We also share the problems we see with their theology, but discuss how many things like submission and gender roles themselves are actually biblical – the IBLP has just misconstrued, misinterpreted, and misapplied these Biblical commands to create a legalistic, graceless, gospel-less framework that oppresses and represses its adherents rather than setting them free. We share some of the shocking revelations from the documentary series and explain the frustrating angle the filmmakers took in conflating IBLP and fundamentalism with true gospel principles and beliefs. --- Timecodes: (01:19) Intro / Father's Day (13:20) Breakdown of IBLP beliefs (16:50) Duggar doc intro (21:20) Problems with Duggar/IBLP theology from documentary perspective (23:37) Problems with Duggar/IBLP theology from biblical perspective (45:11) Josh Duggar's sentence & Du (48:46) Credibility & criticisms of the doc (57:29) "World domination" & children as arrows (01:02:13) Differentiation of fundamentalism & true Christianity (01:06:21) Interesting parts from the documentary (01:12:11) C.S. Amazon Prime recently released a limited docuseries exposing the truth beneath the wholesome Americana surface of reality tv's favorite mega-family, The Duggars, and the radical organization behind them: The Institute in Basic Life Principles. The Institute in Basic Life Principles (IBLP) is a nondenominational Christian organization that serves as an umbrella organization for several ministries established by American Christian minister Bill Gothard in 1961. The stated purpose of the organizationis to provide instruction on how to find success in life by following biblical principles. This involves programs that include seminars for ministry, community outreach, troubled youth mentoring, and an international ministry. Families are expected to have as many children as possible, children are expected to be home schooled, blind submission to their fathers' authority is taught, as well as strict adherence to IBLP's interpretations of Scripture. The IBLP has been alleged by some to be a cult. So this is Josh….real talk- my family was a part of IBLP's homeschool program, ATI, for 7 years. I watched the Shiny, Happy People mini-series on Prime recently, and it was crazy. Mainly because it showcased experiences I had as an adolescence that I'd been trying to explain to people for years. I'd spent years telling people about how I grew up, but no-one quite knew what I was talking about. And now it's on film. And folks are all of the sudden, asking me questions about it. So what was it like to grow up in and around IBLP and ATI? What was it like living under the shadow of Bill Gothard and his teachings?

Makeup artist, podcaster, and former Institute in Basic Life Principles member, Lindsey Williams (who is featured in Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets), delves into the Duggar family connection into the IBLP, being home schooled using "wisdom booklets", how physical punishment was a tenant of the faith, why women lived under the authority of their fathers and husbands, Lindsey's time at the Advanced Training Institute, the organization's twisted teachings about sexual abuse, and being recruited by the leader Bill Gothard to work at IBLP headquarters. **Content Warning: Brief mentions of child ab*se, domestic ab*se, suic*de ideation** The Institute in Basic Life Principles is an extreme Christian fundamentalist set of beliefs that took hold on society when The Duggars (from TLC's “19 kids and Counting”) made it popular. These beliefs look “Happy and Shiny” from the surface, but deep inside rots the truth about the misogynistic, abusive and oppressive practices that force children and wives to obey at all costs. 19 Kids and Counting Ran for seven years on the TLC network. The show centered on the daily routines and challenges of the religiose Duggars, Jim Bob and Michelle—and their 19 children. In 2015, when he was 27 years old, Josh Duggar publicly apologized for molesting five girls, four of whom were his sisters when he was a teenager. The fifth girl was possibly a babysitter for the younger Duggar children. In May 2022, Josh Duggar was found guilty on all charges and sentenced to 12 and a half years in prison followed by 20 years of supervised release and will have to register as a sex offender. What happened to Josh Duggar's victims is absolutely tragic. Though, after looking at his actions and crimes in the context of his upbringing, it's clear that he didn't just spring up in a vacuum. The Duggars don't advocate child molestation, but as followers of Bill Gothard, they do subscribe to a number of beliefs that enable it. Bill Gothard, the founder of both ATI and the Institute in Basic Life Principles (IBLP) was born on November 2, 1934. Gothard developed the Basic Youth Conflicts course into the Institute of Basic Youth Conflicts, and then later renamed it the Institute in Basic Life Principles. After trying unsuccessfully to develop a boarding school, in 1984 Gothard created a Christian homeschooling program called the Advanced Training Institute or ATI. Bill Gothard himself was eventually removed from his leadership role at IBLP in 2014 after multiple women came forward with accusations that he had sexually harassed and/or sexually assaulted them. Later, in 2016, a group of 34 women (including all the women from the earlier group) filed a lawsuit alleging the same things and, additionally, that IBLP later tried to cover it up. When Jinger was growing up, she zealously promoted the Basic Life Principles of Bill Gothard, a man who would come to be accused by some of running a cult and using his religious authority to take advantage of young women (although never legally convicted). Jinger was convinced that obeying the rules of Gothard's teachings was the key to success. However, in private, she suffered from social anxiety and lived in constant terror of not living up to the expectations of God—and of others. She has since been able to free herself from this, and she is sharing about it in her new book, Becoming Free Indeed: My Story of Disentangling Faith from Fear. Today on Connections, Jinger shares how she was able to find freedom.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
You might remember TLC's most popular hit TV show, ‘19 Kids and Counting'. Averaging 2.3 million viewers each week, the show highlights the Duggars, a family of devout Christians. Each episode shows the daily routine of raising 19 children and the joy and challenges they face as their family continues to grow up— featuring everything from toddlers to teens and courting to marriage.Today we have two special guests returning, Jeremy and Jinger Vuolo. Jinger is the 6th child in the Duggar family, and Jeremy is her husband. Jinger recently released her new book, Becoming Free Indeed: My Story of Disentangling Fear from Faith. In just one week it hit the New York Times Best Sellers list Together Jinger, Jeremy, and Jonathan unpack some of the unhealthy ideology of her childhood, the damage done by the Basic Life Principles from Bill Gothard, and some of the lies she believed that many Christians have also fallen prey to—including prominent Christian pastors who sent their staff members to learn Gothard's principles. In this Candid Conversation, Jinger isn't deconstructing her faith but disentangling false beliefs from Biblical Truth. With a renewed faith founded on Biblical Truth, Jinger has found freedom in Christ. Join Jonathan for this eye-opening conversation, which will challenge you to look deeper into your own heart to determine your motives for following Christ—and encourage you to pursue the path to true freedom in Christ. From Joshua Harris' powerfully influential book I Kissed Dating Goodbye to Bill Gothard's Institute in Basic Life Principles to abstinence pledges to multi-layered cottage industries of virtue and chastity, the Christian, homeschool scene of the past several decades has been saturated in a movement seeking purity from a sexualized and secularized world loosely defined as Purity Culture. What is Purity Culture? How and why did it come about? What have the lasting effects of the movement been? What are the pros and cons of its basic tenets and teachings? Brooke Medina leads the group in discussing these very questions. All four hosts had experience growing up in Purity Culture and bring their unique perspectives to the conversation. But wait! There's more! For the first time the hosts welcome a guest as Calvin Moore's wife, Jennifer Moore, joins the episode to bring balance to the otherwise overly male-centric dynamics of the group.
In this episode I chat with the incredible author Heather Grace Heath about her memoir "Lovingly Abused - A True Story of Overcoming Cults, Gaslighting & Legal Educational Neglect". We discuss her life growing up in Bill Gothard's IBLP & ATI and the problems around homeschooling and educational neglect. From Heather's website - In this highly relevant memoir, blending raw honesty and humor, Heather Heath's story begins with her mother's search for escape from childhood trauma, becoming perfect prey for a cult. It follows Heather's coming of age journey while enduring gaslighting, educational neglect, suicide attempts, purity culture, realizing she was in a cult once she was physically trapped, the painful choice to be shunned for becoming a paramedic, marriage, divorce, spiritual deconstruction, trusting again, reluctantly homeschooling through a pandemic, and finally discovering her own faith. Giving each reader insight into a hidden world using pop-culture comparisons, you'll feel as if you were having a real-life conversation with her. This book's mission is to raise public awareness of hidden children all over America who are legally educationally neglected under the guise of religion. Seeing one such family on TV is a cult's convenient distraction from the thousands of women and children who are invisible. Heather has committed to distribute fifteen percent of the book's sales profits to The Coalition for Responsible Home Education, The Vashti Initiative, and The Amish Heritage Foundation; non-profits supporting a child's right to an education and providing guidance to those leaving the abusive practices hidden behind religion, with little to no resources for independence. As similar non-profits emerge and funds allow, more of her profits will be allocated to them. Welcome to our second Cult Communion episode! There is so much that we could say about IBLP and ATI, but we would be talking for days. So we've covered some of the basics of the IBLP beliefs, Bill Gothard being creepy, and how the ATI program compares to the other homeschool curriculum we've looked at. Enjoy!
As a 16 year old girl, Charis Barker had no idea that her world was about to change forever. As an obedient daughter of followers of Gothard, she dreamed of one day sitting at the feet of him. Her wish came true and, to her surprise, Gothard singled her out and called her on stage. He told her that she had "bright eyes," a term of endearment that he used to let someone know that they were "godly." He urged her later that night to leave with him to work for him back at Headquarters in Chicago. Charis and her parents decided she would finish high school then she would go. As a 17 year old, she left home for Chicago and worked directly for Gothard. The abuse began immediately. In this episode, Charis talks about different ways Gothard abused her, how she learned of other victims, and how they banded together to expose the evils of this man. Emily Elizabeth Anderson was raised in Bill Gothard's Institute for Basic Life Principles which she describes as a cult. She recounts her story of living under the philosophy that all women should stay under male headship until marriage. She recalls what it was like to be told you could not get a career or be independent as a woman. Walk through Emily's journey as she gets a drivers license at the age of 24 and ultimately moves out on her own at 26 years old. Emily manages an online group as well as a blog. www.thrivingforwardblog.com She describes her mission: "I am passionate about trauma recovery. After growing up in a home with domestic violence and being raised in a fundamentalist, patriarchal cult for 23 years, I made the courageous (reckless?) decision to walk away from everything I knew and embark on what has become the most wild ride of my life. What started as a personal journey soon transformed into a mission: to both spread awareness about the life-changing the effects of trauma, and to teach others how to find true healing. Thriving Forward was founded on the belief that through the blood of Jesus Christ and by His Grace, anyone who has endured life-altering trauma can do more than just survive their trauma — they can learn how to thrive!" The Daughters is an audio documentary featuring the stories of those who were a part of the patriarchal Stay at Home Daughter movement. The Stay at Home Daughter movement held to the basic premise that women even well into adulthood should not leave their father's house, but stay under his household and authority. This is often included with the idea that women do not need to, nor should they, pursue a career outside of the home since living and serving in the home is of the highest honor. The documentary aims to tell the stories of women who have left this movement and the affect it had on them. Jason Cousineau and Eric Renderking Fisk discuss the history behind the arrest of Josh Duggar by the US Marshals and Homeland Security on charges of downloading and possession of Child Pornography. This show explains how Bill Gothard's Advanced Training Institute from Institute in Basic Life Principles teaches students how sexual molestation and child rape victims are to blame for their own assault. Could it be that the "The Learning Channel" that broadcasts The Duggar's "19 Kids and Counting" and "Counting On" show are somehow responsible for some of this? Could the legions of fans of this show who fawn over these Reality TV show celebrities via their social media accounts be enablers to actual child abduction, rape, and murder? In Episode 7, Anna and Mark discuss the Institute in Basic Life Principles. Started by Bill Gothard, these Christian extremists are big on disciplined behavior, modesty for women, and private academies to educate the youth of their group. Anna got introduced to this group via a viral Tik-Tok, and quickly found out they have some "famous" advocates in the media. Mark is unsupportive of any group that does allow blue jeans or fun; but doesn't necessarily mind the banning of Christian Rock music. Thanks for supporting us Cult Fam, keep drinking that kool-aid. Intro: Kim Neptune Pastor Chad Neptune: Chapter 1 Love verses Selfishness Chapter 2 Joyfulness verses Self Pity Chapter 3 Meekness verses Anger We should also mention that Pastor Neptune would like to recognize and thank the Institute for Basic Life Principles for their continued labors in these areas of home life as he references them frequently in this episode. God Bless you as you listen and may these words find a lodging place in your heart!
On this episode, we speak with Jordan, a cis-gendered bisexual man who identifies as an intersectional feminist, anti-racist and pro-LGBTQAI. He grew up in Dallas, Texas as the second child out of 8 in a conservative Christian home who followed the teachings of the Institute in Basic Life Principles, established by Bill Gothard (a ministry that was popular with the TLC Duggar Family of 19 Kids and Counting). As a child, Jordan grew up isolated from his community, homeschooled by his parents and often called upon to take an active role in caring for his younger siblings. Ever since he was introduced to a computer when he was ten, Jordan has been fascinated with coding and not only taught himself how to code, but also has made a career out of it ever since. At 32, Jordan left home to move to NYC and pursue a career as a programmer, leaving his family and siblings behind. His journey over the past several decades since then has taken him to the likes of raves, Burning Man, Costa Rica, and finally home to himself.. By connecting with the range of people and places in his travels, Jordan has opened his eyes to the abuse and oppression he experienced as a child, by his parents and by his church, and reinforced by the patriarchal norms that shape all of us in this society. Jordan is here with us today to share his story of survival and transformation. --- Thanks for tuning in to the en(gender)ed podcast! The main difference between dating and courtship involves the goals to be reached by spending time with a potential marriage partner. Men and women who choose to date often have no commitment to consider marrying the other person. Maturity and readiness for marriage are not considerations in the decision to date. According to the Institute in Basic Life Principles (iblp.org) Courtship is a relationship between a man and a woman in which they seek to determine if it is God's will for them to marry each other. Under the protection, guidance, and blessing of parents or mentors, the couple concentrates on developing a deep friendship that could lead to marriage, as they discern their readiness for marriage and God's timing for their marriage.
