September 8 2024-On the Road with The Beatles & It's Arthritis Awareness Month It's been 60 years since Beatlemania gripped the world. And one man..then a reporter with the London Daily Express..spent six weeks of unrestricted access to the fab four during their iconic 1964 North American tour. In his book ‘The Beatles And Me On Tour- 60th Anniversary Edition' Ivor Davis recalls his life on the road, serving up the stories behind the stories. We reached author Ivor Davis at his home in Southern California. And Cutting-edge research is helping the over 6 million Canadians who suffer from arthritis, find some life changing relief. But, arthritis remains the leading cause of workplace disability in Canada, impacting sleep, mental health, physical activity, and more. We speak with Dr. Megan Himmel, Rheumatologist with UHN's Schroeder Arthritis Institute.

Episode 22 in which Patrick and Philip discuss the mascot of South Stokes High School. The Sauras were an indigenous group that lived in part along the Dan River in what is now known as Southern Virginia and Stokes County. The Stokes County Boys discuss the morality of having a native mascot, even if it is a specific local tribe versus a blatant stereotype (a la Washington's NFL team). Does it honor or degrade the Saura to be the mascot of this high school? Listen to our discussion and let us know what insight you have (stokescountyboys@gmail.com). Gestur þáttarins að þessu sinni er rithöfundurinn Eiríkur Örn Norðdahl sem sendi nýlega frá sér skáldsöguna Hans Blær. Eiríkur býr á Ísafirði, hlustar á rokk, spilar á gítar og hefur meira að segja smíðað gítar. Hann mætir með uppáhalds ROKKplötuna um klukkan 21.00 Plata þáttarins er önnur breiðskífa Bítlanna, With the Beatles sem kom út 22. nóvember 1963 - fyrir 55 árum, en þennan dag 1963 settist platan í toppsæti breska vinsældalistans og sat á toppnum í 21 viku í röð. Og það sem meira er, hún stal toppsætinu frá fyrstu plötu Bítlanna; Please Please Me sem hafði verið á toppnum frá því hún kom út 30 vikum fyrr. Platan hefur að geyma 8 lög eftir Lennon & McCartney, og fyrsta lag George Harrison sem er að finna á Bítlaplötu; lagið Don´t bother me sem er lag númer fjögur á A-hliðinni. Þar fyrir utan eru svo sex önnu rög eftir aðra en hljómsveitina, Motown, R&B og rokk-slagara eftir aðra sem þeir Bítlar héldu uppá. Umslag plötunnar sýnir andlit Bítlanna hvít á svörtum grunni og hefur verið mörgum hljómsveitum síðan innblástur fyrir myndatökur. Myndina tók tískuljósmyndari sem heitir Robert Freeman. With the Beatles er önnur plata sögunnar til að seljast í milljón eintökum í Bretlandi. Sú fyrsta sem það gerði var tónlistin úr kvikmyndinni South Pacific. Óskalagasíminn verður opnaður (5687-123) um kl. 20; GARG-fréttir eru á sínum stað og A+B er svo að þessu sinni með hljómsveitinni Þeyr. If you are a parent, you probably do not need an introduction to Fortnite Battle Royale. It's the online video game that's been absorbing the minds and time of millions of children and young adults since its launch last September. To the uninitiated, it's an online shooter game that has elements of The Hunger Games movies and the building video game Minecraft. In each match, 100 people are air-dropped onto a cartoon-rendered island where they run around searching for weaponry, building defensive forts and fighting to the death. The winner is the last one standing. It's free to play on multiple devices from computers to games consoles to smartphones. Presenter Kevin Fong (medical doctor, broadcaster and father of two) asks, is Fornite more like the new crack cocaine or more like the Beatles? It's estimated that more than 125 million people have played Fortnite Battle Royale and that 3 million people around the world are playing it at any one time. Its creators Epic Games have earned more than US$1 billion from Fortnite within the last year, and that is just from players buying virtual outfits and victory dances for their avatars. These dances or 'emotes' have leaked out of Fortnite's virtual world into the real one as anyone watching the World Cup will have seen. Football players now emote on scoring goals. There are also professional Fortnite players who are making millions by playing the game while vast numbers of people spectate via live streaming internet channels. Fortnite's Ronaldo is Ninja, a 26 year old man in Illinois, USA. It's said he makes US$ 500,000 from the 300 hours he spends playing the game each month. There are now Fortnite e-sports scholarships offered to students at one university in the United States. Is Fortnite a revolutionary development in video gaming and what is the formula of its undoubted success? With the World Health Organisation recently adding Gaming Disorder to its list of disease categories, how concerned should parents be about the risks of gaming addiction for their Fortnite-playing offspring? Kevin Fong explores the culture and conversation around Fornite with gamers of all ages, games creators, games culture experts, psychologists and psychiatrists. Producer: Andrew Luck-Baker.
