"SaaS as we know it is DEAD." This might sound controversial, but as Manav Garg explains, the old model of simple workflow automation is being rapidly superseded. AI agents are now capable of executing complex tasks based on simple commands, fundamentally changing how businesses operate and what they expect from technology. Manav Garg is the Co-founder and Managing Partner of Together Fund, an operator-led VC firm managing over $250M AUM and backing ambitious early-stage Indian SaaS and AI startups. Before this, he founded Eka Software Solutions in 2004, building it over nearly two decades into a global leader in commodity management software. He scaled Eka to $34 million in revenue with $9 million in profit by 2014, raised over $55 million, navigated a complex pivot to the cloud, and ultimately exited the company. He is also a co-founder of SaaSBOOMi, Asia's largest SaaS community, and is passionate about building India as a Product Nation. Key Insights from the Conversation:

In this episode of I'm an Artist, Not a Salesman, Luis Guzman sits down with creative strategist and marketing rebel Ankur Garg, the CEO of Youngry and founder of Flex Work Studios, for one of the most brutally honest conversations we've had on this show. If you're expecting a polished tale of success, this ain't it. This is a real one—messy, inspiring, and filled with the kind of truth most people are too afraid to say out loud.Ankur walks us through his “Z to A” philosophy—a method where he helps people visualize their end goal first and then reverse engineer the steps to get there. But he's quick to say most people don't actually want to do the work. They want the shortcut. They want the result without the process. He doesn't sugarcoat it. He's seen it too many times—people with all the talk and none of the action. We get into the rise and collapse of his earlier ventures, including the one that made headlines: Shreds. He opens up about losing it all—money, reputation, friendships—and how walking away wasn't just a business move. It was a moral choice. After discovering people close to him were getting paid before the employees and vendors, he had to step out. But leaving meant giving up everything he helped build. That decision haunted him for years. This episode pulls no punches. We talk about betrayal, misplaced loyalty, and how easy it is to misread people when your gut's not tuned in. Ankur admits he missed the signs. He questions whether he betrayed people too—not out of malice, but by promising more than he could deliver when he was young, hungry, and blinded by the rush of success. We explore how rock bottom changed him. After years of living large, Ankur found himself back at his parents' house, broke, depressed, and questioning his worth. No sponsors, no co-signs, no golden parachute. Just Uber driving, $25 flyer gigs, and a deep need to find his footing again. What followed was three years in Pittsburgh, where he rebuilt quietly. No flash. No ego. Just work.He talks about losing confidence, dealing with physical symptoms of stress, and eventually finding his strength again—mentally, emotionally, and financially. It's not a redemption montage. It's a slow, grinding climb. But when his beard grew back (literally), he knew something inside had shifted. He finally loved himself again.Luis and Ankur go deep on loyalty, adult friendships, and why Ankur keeps his circle small. He shares how trauma shaped the way he gives and receives love, and why a simple act—like someone bringing him a coffee—can mean more than words ever could. They talk about chasing accomplishment vs. chasing validation, and how sometimes, you just need to hear “you were right” to get that fire back. They also unpack the origin story of Youngry—a name Ankur held onto for 20 years, waiting for the right moment. That moment is now. He explains how he brought in trusted partners to build something bigger than himself. The agency isn't just about marketing—it's about creating opportunities for creators and entrepreneurs who want to work smart, build loud, and do it without selling out. This is more than a story about business. It's about falling apart and coming back stronger. It's about the identity shifts we all go through and what it takes to truly reinvent yourself when nobody's watching. Ankur's story will hit home for anyone who's ever been humbled by life and had to start over.If you've ever felt like giving up, or like your past disqualified you from your future, you need to hear this one. Not because it's pretty—but because it's real.
We say that you tend to follow the religious practices you're born into — but what if every Garg in the house had a different take on their religion? Send us a textWhen Kuhoo Garg tore her ACL during her comeback tournament after COVID, little did she know this injury would redirect her life's purpose. As a former world #34 badminton player representing India, Kuhoo had dedicated everything to her sport—sacrificing normal college experiences, social connections, and career exploration in pursuit of Olympic dreams. The forced pause from competition created space for a profound realization. Despite reaching elite levels in her sport, Kuhoo began questioning whether the singular focus had been worth it. "I had a lot of resentment towards the sport," she confesses. "I was blinded by it and gave up on all other opportunities." With no work experience, no interview skills, and limited knowledge of her economics degree's applications, she found herself at a crossroads familiar to many athletes—what now?Rather than viewing her athletic background as a liability, Kuhoo recognized the transferable skills it had cultivated. The discipline, competitive drive, and resilience that took her to international badminton courts became her foundation for tackling one of the world's most competitive examinations—the Indian Civil Services exam, which accepts just 1,000 candidates from over 1.3 million applicants annually. What makes Kuhoo's transition story particularly powerful is how she discovered a deeper purpose beyond personal achievement. While playing badminton offered individual accolades, she yearned for broader impact. Now training as an Indian Police Service officer, Kuhoo can provide justice to victims, implement community sport initiatives, and create systemic change—combining her athletic background with public service in ways she never imagined possible. For athletes contemplating their own transitions, Kuhoo offers wisdom from both sides: "Remember how much of a privilege it is to pursue what you love professionally. Stay humble and recognize the world is huge with endless opportunities." Her journey demonstrates that athletic careers, while temporary, develop invaluable skills that transfer to countless other fields. The key is finding the courage to reinvent yourself when the moment demands it.Ready to explore your own second act after sport? Why does 50% of India's workforce remain in agriculture while the U.S. has just 2%?Despite all those hands in the soil, the sector contributes just 15-18% to the GDP. While countries like the U.S. and Europe shifted quickly from agriculture to industry, India's progress was pretty slow. So, is it too late for India to catch up and move on from agriculture?Although India did build textile mills and steel plants, its industrialization lagged behind faster-growing Asian economies like Japan, South Korea, and China, which aggressively pursued manufacturing. So, what happened? Well, India's focus remained on agriculture, missing the chance to build a strong industrial base that could absorb its large agricultural workforce. But there's a new hurdle—manufacturing isn't the job creator it once was.Experts like Subhash Garg argue India may have missed the industrialization train. With automation reducing labour needs, ramping up manufacturing might not create enough jobs for India's vast workforce. In this episode of The Neon Show, Subhash Garg, former Secretary of Economic Affairs, shares his unique perspective on India's economic ambitions and the journey toward the $10 Trillion Dream.Check out Subhash Garg's book, We Also Make Policy : An Insider's Account of How the Finance Ministry Functions, https://www.amazon.in/We-Also-Make-Policy-Functions/dp/9356994714Timestamps00:00 - Trailer01:25 - Subhash Garg's background in economic affairs03:27 - Why has India's "10 Trillion Dollar Dream" dented10:04 - India's current GDP12:50 - Need to shift labour from agriculture to high-value sectors16:48 - Why India missed industrialisation20:26 - The global manufacturing train left—and India missed it21:55 - Why should you invest in services for real growth26:55 - Sports, gaming, and entertainment are hidden gems for rural jobs29:54 - Why is agriculture unreformed31:34 - The impact of subsidies: is it a dead-end for farmers?36:47 - Garg explains GDP with the “potato chip” example42:42 - Why is farmers' share of the final product small47:10 - India's manufacturing needs a tech boost48:22 - Why India's PLI schemes aren't hitting their targets52:58 - How India's service sector thrived due to minimal regulation1:01:57 - Garg's positive take on brain drain1:10:10 - Millionaires on the move1:11:50 - Support for short sellers as market correctors1:13:12 - Announcement of Garg's book, expected in October-------------Hi, I am your host Siddhartha! I have been an entrepreneur from 2012-2017 building two products AddoDoc and Babygogo. After selling my company to SHEROES, I and my partner Nansi decided to start up again. But we felt unequipped in our skillset in 2018 to build a large company. We had known 0-1 journeys from our startups but lacked the experience of building 1-10 journeys. Hence was born The Neon Show (Earlier 100x Entrepreneur) to learn from founders and investors, the mindset to scale yourself and your company. This quest still keeps us excited even after 5 years and doing 200+ episodes. We welcome you to our journey to understand what goes behind building a super successful company. Every episode is done with a very selfish motive, that I and Nansi should come out as a better entrepreneur and professional after absorbing the learnings.-------------Check us out on:Website: https://neon.fund/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theneonshoww/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/beneon/Twitter: https://x.com/TheNeonShowwConnect with Siddhartha on:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/siddharthaahluwalia/Twitter: https://x.com/siddharthaa7-------------Send us a text
