Legends has reached that fateful number - Six Hundred Sixty-Six - and we're celebrating with an appropriately devilish movie. After his wife delivers a stillborn baby, an American diplomat adopts an orphan. Then, a series of mysterious circumstances lead him to suspect the boy may be the Antichrist. Starting Gregory Peck, Lee Remick, David Warner, Billie Whitelaw, and Harvey Stephens as Damien, directed by Richard Donner, the 1976 film was a box office hit that spawned multiple sequels and a TV series. More recently, a direct remake of the first film was released in 2006 and a TV series, Damien, aired in 2016. We're going back to the film that started it all, as it was foretold. But does The Omen give the Devil his due, or has it gone to the dogs? For more geeky podcasts visit GonnaGeek.com You can find us on iTunes under ''Legends Podcast''. Frenzy is a 1972 British horror / thriller film directed by Alfred Hitchcock (aged, at time of production, 71). It is the penultimate feature film of his extensive career. The screenplay, centred on a serial killer in contemporary London and the ex-RAF serviceman he implicates, was written by Anthony Shaffer, based on the 1966 novel Goodbye Piccadilly, Farewell Leicester Square by Arthur La Bern, who, in a letter to the Editor of The Times, said he found Hitchcock's production and Shaffer's adaptation of his book “appalling”. The film stars Jon Finch, Alec McCowen, and Barry Foster and features Billie Whitelaw, Anna Massey, Barbara Leigh-Hunt, Bernard Cribbins and Vivien Merchant.Produced the year before, the curse of 1971 continued unabated as, along with poor Peter Cushing wife's demise, Hitchcock's wife and long-time collaborator Alma had a stroke during production. As a result, some sequences were shot without Hitchcock on the set, so he could tend to his wife.Michael Caine was Hitchcock's first choice for the role of Rusk, the main antagonist, but Caine thought the character was disgusting and said "I don't want to be associated with the part." Foster was cast after Hitchcock saw him in Twisted Nerve (which featured Frenzy co-star Billie Whitelaw).Helen Mirren, who later in life played Hitchcock's wife Alma Reville in Hitchcock, met with the director to discuss the role of Babs Milligan. Eventually she rejected the role, and years later said she regretted doing so.Henry Mancini who was originally hired as the film's composer, is quoted as saying,"If the same film was made ten years ago it would've had twice the amount of music in it", After an enigmatic, behind-the-scenes melodrama, where Hitch was reported to have yelled "If I had wanted Bernard Herrmann, I would have hired him!" the composer was fired and replaced by Ron Goodwin. The tag line for this movie was "Hitchcock's Last Masterpiece!" This line would be prophetic, since this is now considered to be the last masterwork Alfred Hitchcock produced in his canon.$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$Just in case anyone has too much money and wants to give a bit to us to help with our hosting n stuff. After decades of directing television and a few forgettable movies, Donner delivers his first box-office hit and a true horror classic. Composer Jerry Goldsmith won his only Oscar for his tone setting music. Gregory Peck, Lee Remick, David Warner, and especially Billie Whitelaw deliver believable performances. We announce and speak to the winner of the Walter Scott Prize for Historical Fiction. Peggy Ashcroft said that Winnie, in Happy Days by Samuel Beckett, ‘is one of those parts…that actresses will want to play in the way that actors aim at Hamlet – a ‘summit' part'. She was right, several great actresses, Ashcroft herself, Billie Whitelaw and Maxine Peake, have – while buried above the waist, then up to the neck, in a mound - scaled that summit. In Front Row, Samira Ahmed talks to two more, Juliet Stevenson, an acclaimed Winnie in 2015 and Lisa Dwan, in the 60th anniversary production that opens tonight, about the joys and trials of playing this desperately cheerful woman. Tonight, the main stage of the Bristol Old Vic will play host to Outlier, a play about isolation, addiction and friendship in rural Devon. It is written by performance poet Malaika Kegode in her theatrical debut, and accompanied by the music of local Bristolian band Jakabol. While normally, debut playwrights may have been programmed for one of the theatre's more intimate spaces, the pandemic has given emerging talent the opportunity to occupy the spotlight. Tom Morris, Artistic Director of the Bristol Old Vic, explains how the pandemic has actually enabled more risk-taking. Presenter: Samira Ahmed Producer: Hilary Dunn Studio Engineer: Giles Aspen

The film earned two Oscar nominations, and won for Best Original Score for Jerry Goldsmith, his only Oscar win. A scene from the film appeared at #16 on Bravo's The 100 Scariest Movie Moments. When director Peter Medak (The Changeling, Romeo Is Bleeding) cast twins brothers Martin and Gary Kemp to play the infamous British gangster siblings Ronnie and Reggie Kray he had no idea that the Kemps already had a strong fan base as the musical duo Spandau Ballet, one of the biggest British new wave bands of all time! The real life Krays twins, still alive at the time but serving long prison sentences, got paid 255,000 pounds for the rights to their story and brother Charlie acted as senior consultant during the making of the film. Esteemed British stage actress Billie Whitelaw plays their domineering mother Violet. Dan and Vicky discuss the minor cult classic and it's relation to the real life events in the twins lives. Do these boys know how to party or what? A movie about a spooky kid from the 70s? Quick kids! Put down your cellular phones with your instagrams and tune in to the talkies for this week’s review of The Omen! The film was directed by Richard Donner (Superman, The Goonies, Lethal Weapon) and stars Gregory Peck (To Kill a Mocking Bird, Cape Fear, The Boys from Brazil). Peck plays Robert Thorn, who, while desperate to spare his wife’s feelings, tricks her into believing that Damien is their own son, who actually died shortly after being born. Harvey Spencer Stephens who played Damien, had a very minor acting career after the film, appearing in a TV movie, then having a cameo in the 2006 remake of The Omen as a reporter. With the help of Keith Jennings, played by David Warner (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: Secret of the Ooze, Star Trek VI, Star Trek V, Star Trek TNG, Tron) Thorn tries to discovery what happened to his son, who Damien really is, and how to undo the plot he has been unwittingly complicit in for the past five years.
