In this 3-part series, Danadasa covers the "Three Great Turnings" of the wheel of the dharma that resulted in the Theravada, Mahayana and Vajrayana traditions.Here in Part 2, he explores how Mahayana Buddhism builds on early Buddhist teachings to emphasize interconnectedness and engagement with the world. He contrasts embodied imagination—a tool for liberation—with fantasy, which is mere escapism. Through imagination, we can transform harmful narratives into those fostering peace and well-being. Danadasa highlights the Mahayana method of creating archetypal symbols, like Amitabha Buddha, to inspire and guide practitioners, encouraging reliance on higher wisdom rather than individual control.He also addresses balancing inner peace with active engagement in a polarized world. By using meditation to cultivate an inner “bounded space,” individuals can replenish emotional resilience and learn to let go of toxic tendencies, such as mental proliferation and polarization. Danadasa emphasizes that true freedom arises not from avoiding the world but from embracing impermanence and interconnectedness, offering practical steps for thriving in challenging circumstances.______________Danadasa (he/him) began meditating and practicing Buddhism in 1993 and was ordained in the Triratna Buddhist Order in 2011 at the San Francisco Buddhist Center. At his ordination, he received his Buddhist name Danadasa which, in Sanskrit, means “servant of generosity”.  In 1995, he developed a heart connection with the archetypal Buddha Amitabha, rooted in the Japanese Pure Land tradition Jodo Shinshu (known in the Western world as Shin Buddhism), and has been practicing an Amitabha sadhana (devotional practice) since 2011. Danadasa is deeply passionate about teaching meditation, mindfulness and Buddhism in a somatic and embodied way, bringing the Buddha's teachings to life in our imaginations through images and storytelling. Embodied practice is the path of getting out of our heads and into our bodies, for it is in our bodies that liberation reveals itself. Over the past 20 years, Danadasa has held various administrative and leadership roles within the San Francisco Buddhist Center (SFBC). And in 2023, he resigned from all of his formal SFBC roles, as well as taking a break from teaching for a period of wandering in the wilderness, free from the external responsibilities, expectations and social norms of the monastery, following in the footsteps of the great “crazy wisdom” Mahasiddhas of the past. Since then, many lineage Masters and archetypal Buddhas have provided Danadasa with guidance and inspiration, including Tilopa, Naropa, Padmasambhava, Vajrakilaya, and Machig Labdron. In 2024, Danadasa received Vajrayogini initiation and empowerment. Born in Islington and lived in 3 rooms with 4 in one bedroom and an outside toilet! His family moved to a home in Hendon and saw the cadets training and this was inspirational to him. However, he joined the army at 16 and became homesick and left. He became a floor layer and earned lot of money,. Sadly he bubble burst during the recession and ended up going bankrupt. This was an initial blocker to joining the police. He was encouraged to join the specials which he enjoyed and once her was eligible he joined the regulars.He was posted to Greenwich where he experienced a variety of jobs and was able to deal with them as the work load wasn't over whelming. He went from there Greenwich to DPG/ Firearms. He was at Cannon Row and covered Number 10 as part of the team. He worked with Keith Palmer who was murdered in the Yard at Parliament.The Thin Blue line badge is a bone of contention and if this is banned then so should everything else, from Pride to Breast cancer badges these should be removed too.During his service Paul found himself in Southwark Crown Court being prosecuted for dangerous driving following an on duty accident. He was found not guilty and the Sgt from traffic took his acquittal personally! the federation reps were outstanding and his legal team Since retirement Paul has become an advocate for individuals who face issues from the IOPC and PSD and is despondent at the crass way in which officers are targeted.Paul now works as a trainer and manages a property that he rents out. 252# Portals and Stargates | doorways to other worlds Stargates and portals have long been a subject of fascination in various ancient myths, religious texts, and conspiracy theories. The idea that specific locations or technologies could serve as "stargates" — portals that allow instantaneous travel across vast distances, even between different dimensions or realms — has captivated people for centuries. This concept blends mythology, religious beliefs, and speculative science. Let's dive into the various elements, including the connection to the Book of Enoch, the conspiracies involving stargates, and the curious connection to Reginald Wingate.

I dug through the archives and found this old essay I wrote many years ago about Lucid Dreaming, and thought I'd share it on the podcast for all of you to listen to, as I realized I haven't shared any new podcasts in a while. Lucid dreaming represents a powerful state of consciousness where the dreamer becomes aware they are dreaming and can sometimes influence the unfolding dream narrative. This capability opens doors to extraordinary dimensions, serving as an inspiration for artists and as a tool for personal and spiritual exploration. It echoes the limitless possibilities seen in stories like The Matrix, where reality is malleable and deeply interconnected with our perceptions and beliefs.Lucid dreaming allows us to tap into our subconscious in ways that can directly benefit our waking lives. It's been shown that this altered state can enhance creativity, problem-solving, and emotional processing, giving us tools to better navigate challenges we face in our day-to-day lives. For instance, Dr. Stephen LaBerge, a pioneer in lucid dream research, has demonstrated how athletes, artists, and musicians can practice skills in their dreams to improve performance when awake. His research suggests that the brain cannot distinguish between the actions taken in dreams and those in reality, meaning you can enhance your abilities while you sleep. This means that the actions taken in a lucid dream, for example practicing an instrument, affect the brain the same way as if you were practicing the instrument while awake. (citation) His book, Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming, co-written with Howard Rheingold, provides a comprehensive guide to understanding and harnessing the power of lucid dreams.I hope you'll enjoy this podcast!
