Exactly What to Say (ft. Phil Jones)How to be a perfectionist and an improviser all at onceOPENING QUOTE:“... woke up seven days later, 120,000 free downloads. I'm like, okay, I might have something.”-Phil JonesGUEST BIO:Phil Jones has founded not one but five multimillion dollar companies, became the youngest ever winner of the British Excellence of Sales and Marketing Award, and produced the most listened to nonfiction audiobook of all time, Exactly What to Say? Phil entered the business world at age 14 and went from a bucket and sponge to a fleet of car washing employees that led him to earning more at age 15 than his high school teachers. When it comes to speaking industry experience, Phil has given over 2,500 presentations across 57 countries and 5 continents. Beyond his business success, he's the proud dad of twins and is passionate about making a positive impact by elevating everyone around him.Links:WebsiteFacebookXLinkedInYouTubeInstagramCORE TOPICS + DETAILS:[6:04] - The Power of “How”When someone's better than you, get curiousEver since his days working for his dad's self-employed building business, Phil has been intensely curious and active about finding out how people find success. As he says, “Success leaves clues, and if you're brave enough to follow the clues, then chances are it might work out well for you.”So when you come across someone who does what you do better than you do, don't get mad — get curious. Ask them how.[21:50] - Big Idea vs. Proven MethodWhat kind of book is in you?If you have a big idea, you can certainly go after a book deal and try to make a name for yourself through that big idea. But many speakers, Phil argues, would be better served by a “proven method” book. Something that's going to live with you, that will serve as your IP. Something that is your signature calling card. As Phil says: “John Bonjovi can write as much new music as he likes, but people are going to remember him for Living on a Prayer.[23:45] - Don't Rest on Your LaurelsMake something great? Time to remake it.Phil shares one quick but powerful insight that's important not to miss — once “Exactly What to Say” became a massive success, he didn't simply leave it alone. He began creating new editions for every print run. New call-to-actions, new lead magnets, new thank-you pages. All of these changes happen again and again, ensuring that his ideas remain as fresh and relevant as they were in the first edition. This concept can be applied to books, keynote speeches, career strategies — anything that you've found that works doesn't need to become stagnant.[32:37] - What Matters Most Happens OffstageService, relationships, and humanityPhil says that the biggest aspect of winning and sustaining a career as a speaker comes down to the more “intangible” things: health, relationships, boundaries. These things are all more important than fees and tactical business decisions. Meanwhile, keeping a service mindset is essential — no matter how many millions of audiobooks you sell.RESOURCES:[1:55] Exactly What to Say, by Phil Jones[32:28] NSA: National Speakers AssociationFollow Phil Jones:WebsiteFacebookXLinkedInYouTubeInstagramFollow Josh Linkner:FacebookLinkedInInstagramXYouTubeABOUT MIC DROP:Hear from the world's top thought leaders and experts, sharing tipping point moments, strategies, and approaches that led to their speaking career success. In 2017, he moved to a small decommissioned farm, turning it into the world’s first certified Carbon Neutral honey farm, home to the native British honeybee. He is a regular on television and radio, including his own show for ITV1. He works with businesses worldwide as a Behaviour Insight Advisor and has carved a reputation for delivering keynote presentations and workshops at conferences for some of the world’s most recognisable brands. Please welcome Jez Rose. Bio Jez Rose is a broadcaster, honeybee farmer, award-winning writer and keynote speaker, known for his energy, humour and passion. Growing up in the countryside, Jez Rose discovered his passion for nature and the environment early in life. In 2017, he moved to a small decommissioned farm on the Cambridgeshire/Lincolnshire border, turning it into a multi-award-winning, organic farm – and the world’s first certified Carbon Neutral honey farm, home to the native British honeybee. It might be the moustache that you recognise but Jez is a regular on television and radio, including his own show for ITV1; guest presenting on QVC and when not in the studio with ITV’s James Martin’s Saturday Morning, can be seen traveling the country with BBC1’s Saturday Kitchen. He has been the public ambassador for national campaigns for the likes of LateRooms.com; Honest Organic and The Happy Egg Company. Jez spent ten years working with businesses worldwide as a Behaviour Insight Advisor, carving a formidable reputation delivering keynote presentations and workshops at conferences for some of the world’s most recognisable brands. He has been invited to speak at the world-renowned TEDx conferences in both the UK and USA, which can be viewed online. An award-winning writer, his books include Flip the Switch and two books written for children: Zooster McFlooster & the Very Big Sneeze and The Sock Thief. His articles and features have appeared in titles as diverse as The Daily Telegraph, CNN, Liz Earle Wellbeing and BBC Countryfile magazines. A unique presenter and keynote speaker with the rare ability to genuinely inspire audiences, he’s been invited to speak in more than 14 countries and at TEDx events in both the UK and USA. His message is a simple yet powerful one: ever since humans stepped foot onto soil, nature had important lessons for us, but for centuries we’ve ignored them. It’s resulted in disengaged leaders and workforces; cultures without passion – and an environment ignored. The overwhelmingly positive, scientifically evidenced impact of nature on human health, wellbeing and behaviour will surprise you; how simply it changes human behaviour will astonish. Gavin Ingham - Be More, Do More, Have More

My guest this week has been obsessed with high performance for over twenty years.  He’s been looking for answers to questions such as: What differentiates high performers from good performers? What helps one person to achieve great results when another is merely average? What skyrockets one team to be more motivated, more productive and make more sales when another wallows in mediocrity? The answers to these questions inspired him to create his #IAM10 methodology for high performance and today I’m going to be asking him to share those answers and some insights and strategies that we can all use to be more, do more and have more. My guest is IAM10 creator Gavin Ingham. Bio What differentiates high performers from good performers? For the last two decades, this is the question that has driven Gavin Ingham to develop the #IAM10 high performance methodology for helping leaders to build high performing teams that fulfil their potential, improve motivation and focus, increase productivity, embrace change and grow sales. The world is changing faster than ever. There is more competition than ever before. The global economy, AI, automation all mean that you and your people need to work with conviction, embrace change, maximise productivity and add more value to every situation. Good enough is not good enough anymore. You need to be the best. You need to be a 10. Why can one person have it all and achieve nothing and another can achieve extraordinary results despite the most severe of challenges? The surprising truth of #IAM10 is that there is little correlation between high performance and education, background, intelligence or career. Instead, high performance is directly related to persistent habits. This means that anyone can be a high performer and it can be taught. High performers have three core traits… Conviction. They believe in themselves, the value that they add and their journey irrespective of external people, events and circumstances. Clarity. They are clear about who they want to be, what they need to do to succeed and what not to do. Consistency. They do what they need to do irrespective of challenges and setbacks. As it turns out, chronic inconsistency is the enemy of high performance. Gavin has worked with CEOs, leadership teams and high performers in companies like Jaguar, UBS, Microsoft and Spotify delivering talks, masterclasses and programmes. All of his sessions are highly interactive, engaging, humorous and full of proven strategies for high performance that can be used to achieve more right away. Whilst inspirational and motivational, Gavin is a business speaker and tailors his messages to you, your audience and your business so that you get maximum engagement, measurable change and positive results. Gavin has given over 2,000 paid talks to over 250,000 delegates, spoken all over the world and has appeared on US TV networks ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox on the Brian Tracy TV Show. Are you ready to learn these magic words? Magic words are a set of words that talk straight to the subconscious brain; which is a powerful tool in decision-making because it is pre-programmed through our conditioning to make decisions without over analyzing them.  Working a little like a computer—it has only “yes” and “no” outputs and can never land on a “maybe”. Using words that talk straight to the part of the brain that is free from maybes and responds on reflex gives you a fair advantage in conversation and can result in you getting your own way more often.   Trust us...you DO NOT want to miss this episode.   You can reach out to Phil’s team at: www.philmjones.com or you can connect with directly on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/philmjones/ Please make sure to subscribe if you haven’t done so already and leave us a review.  For more information on VN² Marketing on how we can help you power up your recruiting, check out all of our free guides and tutorials at VN2 Marketing – Fanatically Consistent Social Media Recruiting

Phil M. Jones has made it his life’s work to demystify the sales process and reframe what it means to “sell”. He is the author of five international best-selling books, and the youngest ever winner of coveted “British Excellence in Sales and Marketing Award”. What is selling? Selling isn't embellishing a product or a service with features and benefits so somebody gets it. What selling is, is earning the right to make your recommendation, and putting yourself in a position that you can say things like it's because of the fact that you said X, Y and Z, for those reasons, what we recommend is A, B and C.So you were taking business more serious than school - even at the age of 15? I was invited in by my teachers questioning my attendance, and I would respond to them with a question. The question I would respond with was, “how much money are you making sir?” And my school teachers would refuse to tell me at the time, but at 15 years of age, I was earning the equivalent of around $4,000 a month from my little car cleaning business. What is the name of your new book? The book is called Exactly What to Say, but what the important thing in that is, not that you should say exactly what I tell you to say, but what you should be thinking is, well the worst time to think about the thing you're going to say is in the moment that you're saying it, and that quite often you find yourself in repetitive conversations, where you're saying the same thing, and same thing, and the same thing because the moment someone saying. What would be a short takeaway for the listeners?  If somebody else can do it - can that somebody else be me?
