The already-expansive world of Calva Louise is growing even more! Their new album ‘Edge of the Abyss', comes out on July 11th via Mascot Records. This one-of-a-kind band found each other from opposite corners of the world and has combined influences and experiences to create a myriad of captivating threads entwined into their existence. Metal, punk, electronica, and art rock weave through grandiose narratives and cinematic storytelling with a mind-blowing visual delivery on the new album. They built an impressive DIY spirit and formidable reputation on the UK live circuit through performances at Download, 2000Trees, a headline performance on the BBC Introducing Stage at Reading and Leeds festival, as well as tours with Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, Razorlight, Boston Manor, and Bloodywood. We spoke to the trio recently, learning more about who Calva Louise are, how they have reached this point, the new album, the work that has gone into it, and so much more. This week, we're scratching The Itch for a reunion! Alizon and Ben, our vacation buddies and international inspirations from Calva Louise, return to discuss their brilliant new album Edge of the Abyss, which drops on July 11th. We discuss the interpretive nature of art, the rich story lore that carries through music videos across albums, and the familiar friends they reunited with on Shiprocked. Plus, Aaron wishes he could be more specific about Alizon's invention, and Bloodywood is very good at pranks. Enjoy. If you like what you hear, you can hear more of us every Sunday night broadcasting rock to the masses from 6-9pm CST on KCLC-FM. If you're not in the St. Louis area, you can stream the show from 891thewood.com, TuneIn, Radio.net, and OnlineRadioBox! This week, we're scratching The Itch for Sno! It's not only in St Louis and Chicago, but in Scotland as well! Janine Shilstone of VUKOVI becomes The Itch's first Scottish guest as she joins us to discuss "Sno," the newest single from (and a character in) her band's new album My God Has Got a Gun, out January 25th on SharpTone Records! It's a vulnerable discussion about the various things that helped her heal from being in a dark place, including therapy, touring the US with Itch guests Calva Louise, and using her own paintings as album art. Plus, stuff gets broken on stage, The Itch signs off on a Lady Gaga/VUKOVI tour, and Dan has a question about swearing. Note: Due to an error with the archiving on our end at the station, this week's show was not archived and the recording is lost, which is a shame because I thought this week's show went quite well. In summary, new artists and tunes were played, also I'm in the UK next week and so the shows will be prerecorded for some time. I'm still posting the playlist here so you can find the bands, but the audio is gone, sorry. To make up for it, here's my interview with Arkells from last week. This week's show was rockier and heavier; as a massive rocker in my teens, I don't mind that! New releases, recapping notable Kingston shows of the week as we lead into a week of Halloween shows. Music by: Calva Louise, Razorlight, The Wood Burning Savages, BXKS, swim school, Virgins, JD Cliffe, Adore, Poppy Ajudha, TRAITS, Alffa, Dream Wife, The Great Leslie, Michael Kiwanuka, Gondolas, Flat Party, Girlband!, Kokoroko. Find this week's playlist here. Do try and support artists directly! Touch that dial and tune in live! We're on at CFRC 101.9 FM in Kingston, or on cfrc.ca, Sundays 8 to 9:30 PM!
