Festival Republic MD Melvin Benn discusses the company's ground‑breaking project to install mains power at London's Finsbury Park — the first installation of its kind in the UK. The move, a collaboration with Haringey Council and National Grid, aims to reduce reliance on temporary generators and use renewable energy for major concerts. Broke ground in March with the first mains-powered concerts scheduled for the end of June; the change offers operational efficiencies and modest carbon reductions as a statement of intent. Reading is already next in line for a similar installation in 2027. This episode of the Event Industry News Podcast is sponsored by Present Communications. Max Halley joins The Go To from Max's Sandwich Shop in Finsbury Park — a place he describes as “a surprisingly serious restaurant masquerading as a silly sandwich shop.” From the ham, egg and chips sandwich Tesco tried to copy, to focaccia engineered for mayonnaise, juice and structural integrity, Max explains the thinking behind one of Britain's most joyful food institutions. In this episode, Max talks about his new book Cooking with Sausages, built on the revelation that sausages are really just pre-seasoned mince waiting to be liberated. He serves up a Morteau sausage, explains why he boils rather than grills, and takes us through sausage lasagne, Le Pig Mac, mortadella cheeseburgers, porchetta tacos and hangover macaroni designed to be eaten with a spoon. We also hear how Max nearly made a TV show called Chicken Lips and Salmon Legs before losing out to Taskmaster, why his first sandwich shop idea was called “Out Here on the Dance Floor,” and how an awkward licensing dispute became one of his greatest restaurant moments: a customer told to “get up and fuck off” to a round of applause. There are stories from Le Coq, Keira Knightley's alleged praise, Raymond Blanc being angry about missing tarragon, electric toothbrushes for sale outside Finsbury Park Tesco, cold lasagne in a croissant with honey, and a childhood memory of eating sheep on a spit in a French village. Expect sausage philosophy, sandwich engineering, strong opinions on cheese, and plenty of Max's “little pleasant splashes” of joy.Pre-Order Max's "Cooking With Sausages" Book Here - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cooking-Sausages-Delicious-Everything-Chipolatas/dp/0241794692Watch and Subscribe To Our Youtube Videos Here - https://www.youtube.com/@gotofoodOrder Ben's Incredible Book - All You Can Eat - By Clicking Here - https://www.amazon.co.uk/All-You-Can-Eat-British/dp/1805221523Get 2 Months of Blinq For Free - With Code - GOTOBLINQ - https://blinqme.com/Order The Greatest Meat In The Country From HG Walter Here & Have Restaurant Quality Meals From Home - www.hgwalter.com Hosted on Acast. On this week's episode of That Peter Crouch Podcast, Pete, Sids, and Chris are joined by global chart-topper Dermot Kennedy for a wide-ranging chat that blends football culture with life on the road as one of the world's biggest touring artists. From busking on the streets of Dublin to selling out the Aviva Stadium, Dermot opens up about the grind behind his rise, the self-doubt before album releases, and why live performances still mean everything to him.The lads dive into Dermot's deep love for football, growing up as a Manchester United fan inspired by Roy Keane, and his unforgettable experiences playing Soccer Aid alongside legends like Wayne Rooney, Rivaldo, and Carlos Tevez. There's also a brilliant crossover between music and football as they compare elite mentality, confidence, and what separates the very best from the rest.We also get a hilarious (and slightly chaotic) guitar lesson for Sids as he prepares for a potential live performance at Finsbury Park, plus a stunning live acoustic performance from Dermot that completely stops the room. After Dermot heads off, Pete and Sids regroup to debrief Pete's participation in another Liverpool Legends match, the Paddy Power predictions, and life without Chris—who's conveniently on holiday…Chumbawamba00:00 - Podcast intro & Sid's “popstar” identity crisis03:10 - Wild guest booking stories & big names teased05:10 - Phone network XI & absurd football chat07:45 - Dermot Kennedy joins the podcast09:00 - Touring with global superstars & live show pressure10:45 - New album nerves & self-doubt before release12:00 - Busking in Dublin & early arrogance14:00 - Music industry vs old-school artistry debate16:00 - Irish music culture & live performance roots17:30 - Football fandom & Roy Keane stories19:00 - Meeting Roy Keane & brutal fan encounters22:00 - Playing football growing up & mental escape23:30 - Soccer Aid stories & facing elite pros27:30 - Playing Old Trafford & halftime performance nerves29:00 - The moment his career exploded overnight31:30 - Talent vs hard work in music33:00 - Sid's chaotic guitar journey begins35:00 - Sid plays guitar (and survives)36:30 - Dermot performs live acoustic (incredible moment)38:30 - Fan questions & bizarre phone plan reveal40:30 - Songs he nearly didn't release42:00 - Touring life & favourite cities44:00 - Musicians who can actually play football45:00 - “Game's Gone” – VAR & modern football rants48:30 - Dermot leaves & shin pad campaign chaos50:00 - Liverpool Legends match debrief55:00 - Paddy Power predictions & football catch-up01:05:00 - Chris on holiday & podcast wrap-upFor more Peter Crouch: Twitter - https://twitter.com/petercrouch Therapy Crouch - https://www.youtube.com/@thetherapycrouch For more Chris Stark Twitter - https://twitter.com/Chris_StarkInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/chrisstark/For more Steve Sidwell Twitter - https://twitter.com/sjsidwell Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/stevesidwell14 #PeterCrouch #ThatPeterCrouchPodcast Hosted on Acast.

Want to hear your voice on The Take? Record a voice message for International Podcast Day about why you listen and it could be featured on the show. A bank account can be everything in an increasingly cashless society. In the UK, banks closed more than 343,000 accounts in the last financial year. The practice is known as ‘debanking,' and clients are given no notice or recourse after they're flagged as potential risks. Muslim groups have complained for years that they are unfairly targeted. Their cause recently got an unexpected boost from far-right politician Nigel Farage after he uncovered that his account had also been shut down over his political beliefs. This week, the Financial Conduct Authority says a preliminary review has found "no evidence" that banks have shut or denied accounts over customers' political beliefs. But while Farage's case drew widespread attention and condemnation, many in the Muslim community say they are still suffering the consequences. In this week's episode, we have a return guest to the podcast. Ruth Catlow has taken the amazing work she did in lockdown and held live festivals in the park where people get to become one of the seven core species: a dog, a Canada goose (just visiting!) a tree, grass… and, yes, a stag beetle. What they're not being, are people. So they're looking at the world through new eyes, hearing it with new ears, smelling, tasting, sensing in all ways - and the whole experience of what it is to live in this place as home, instead of just dropping in…becomes deeper, and more complex and more alive.  And then each of the species can put forward ideas for the Interspecies Treaty of Finsbury Park which will make it a much better place for everyone - including the people. And then - because Ruth's enthusiasm and expertise range widely over the ways things can be made more fair and equitable, as well as work better, she's designed the app that allows a much fairer voting system, so the people-become-MoreThanHumans can vote on the seven ideas put forward for the Treaty in ways that allows more nuance than simply ranking them. This last became a whole other hour of conversation on voting systems and how we can create a decent democracy - so that's the bonus... well worth a listen! The Treaty of Finsbury Park https://treaty.finsburypark.live/CultureStake App https://culturestake.org/Episode #163 https://accidentalgods.life/cultures-of-commoning/Experiences of the Interspecies Festival https://www.islingtontribune.co.uk/article/now-we-know-how-trees-in-the-park-feelNordic LARP https://nordiclarp.org/Quadratic Voting https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quadratic_voting

RVG - "Squid" from the 2023 album Brain Worms from Fire Records Travel back in time with Melbourne-quartet RVG on today's Song of the Day.  “'Squid' is a song about going back in time and stepping on a Tiktaalik and then going back to the present but you have the same job, the same problems you had before except you're a squid,” vocalist Romy Vager explained to Rolling Stone Australia. “We jammed it on a whim and it ended up coming out really well. I left a large chunk of the lyrics till the last minute, finishing them off in Finsbury Park at 6 in the morning before I could get into the studio and record my vocals.” The track can be found on the band's third LP, Brain Worms, released last month via Fire Records. The band says the new album captures them at their most confident yet. “Hype is scary. After two years of COVID, it felt like the hype had gone down so we were able to just do stuff,” says Vager in a press statement. “This time around we were like, this is what we're doing, we're taking control, we're taking risks, and we're going to make an album that sounds big so that when we hear it on the radio we want to hear it again.”  Read the full story at KEXP.orgSupport the show: https://www.kexp.org/donateSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Dame Alicia joined Diaghilev's company, which was based in Monte Carlo, in 1925, a month after her 14th birthday. Diaghilev changed her name to Alicia Markova and cast her in the title role of Nightingale in Le Rossignol, a ballet scored by Stravinsky, choreographed by Balanchine and with costumes designed by Matisse. It premiered in Paris in June 1925. After Diaghilev's death in 1929 she returned to England and became a leading figure of the emerging English ballet scene, dancing with the Ballet Rambert and Vic Wells Ballet, as well as at Sadlers Wells. Dame Alicia danced the leading roles in Swan Lake, The Nutcracker and Giselle, which became her trademark, illustrating her unique style of fragility and strength. In 1950, together with her dancing partner Anton Dolin, Dame Alicia founded The London Festival Ballet which eventually became the English National Ballet. She was still dancing Giselle at the age of 48 and had her last dance on stage in the early 1960s. Subsequently she has worked as director, patron and teacher and was awarded the CBE for services to dance in 1958. Her memory for dance steps has proved invaluable for dance historians, pupils and teachers alike.
