Today on the Connections Episodes from Organize 365®, I'm talking to Corie Weathers, author of “Military Culture Shift”. Once Corie was married she and her husband desired to invest in marriages, in a private practice. That was until he decided to pursue being a chaplain in the Military. And so began a life long adventure of serving and PCS'ing with two boys. Corie is currently gearing up to PCS soon and vulnerably shared how she feels about it.  Corie's strength is not in adjusting to change. As a therapist, Corie advises others to adjust their expectations and look for the things you are excited about in the new location. It's important to grieve the loss of your current lifestyle, feel it, process it, and then climb out of those feelings by looking for purpose in the new. And while it is a military family's choice to serve, she pointed out there are a lot of sacrifices and choices you forfeit. Corie is deeply committed to serving the military community.  Military Culture Shift We talked about the culture shift among military families over the years. It used to be that 1 in 4 people knew someone serving and now it's 1 in 200 that know someone serving in the Military. Americans had a better understanding of the sacrifice service men and women and their families make, on a daily basis. The overall support system used to be greater. Because military families know the struggle of moving so often, when you arrived in your new location, you could count on the community to embrace you. The spouses acted as the backbone and placed on the back burner for their families. They volunteered so their active duty servicemember could focus on the mission. Honestly, the Military relies on the volunteers. It's volunteers who help the families settle in. Also as spouses, you need to get your family established, then you could explore work opportunities. But by that time it was almost time to move again.  In the 80's the marketing had a fatherly figure kind of message as in you could count on the military to supply all your needs.  That shifted to “we take care of our families so they can take care of themselves” kinda vibe. They were trying to break the dependency of families on them for every need. Families were starting to get used to 2 income households so they didn't have to rely on the military so much and because spouses wanted to work.  Spouses face many challenges in relocating and often that second income is undependable. Where the spouse has a license or certification, in some cases they aren't recognized in other states or countries. We got into a deep discussion about possible solutions and whose job is it to develop and implement those solutions. Social media has filled some of the gaps but due to more spouses working, volunteerism went down and community decreased.  Military Initiative Funding We also talked about how funding gets assigned to different buckets. And the appropriation process to make sure the money gets spent as intended. And what happens when money is supposed to be set aside but comes up short and then some programs don't actually get fully funded. It directly affects those that protect us. We talked a lot about the process. And that goes for every bill that becomes law, not just for the Department of Defense (DOD) initiatives. And when families fall on hard times due to programs not getting funded, now they no longer have that tight knit community to lean on.  Corie's Challenge: “Who is going to be the people group that implements this thing that is so important to me?” We agreed that it's time for everyone to look at the issues with fresh eyes and come up with outside of the box ideas as solutions. As states are starting to have more control, it's time for us and private institutions to step up and provide actionable solutions for those who protect our freedom. Could you be part of the solution for an issue personal to you? EPISODE RESOURCES: Military Culture Shift by Corie Weathers Sign Up for the Organize 365® Newsletter Did you enjoy this episode? Title: "Leadership Passed Down: Moses and Joshua" Be Fruitful & Multiply Series   Introduction * Moses and Joshua's relationship offers a powerful biblical example of mentorship and succession. Their dynamic demonstrates the importance of intentionally preparing the next generation to accomplish God's mission. We are called to leave a legacy—not just to achieve for ourselves but to invest in others, passing on wisdom, faith, and leadership that will continue to impact the world long after we are gone.   I. Moses' Perspective: The Mentor   1. Recognizing the Potential in Joshua   * Exodus 17:8-13: Exodus 17:8-13: 8 The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim. 9 Moses said to Joshua, “Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands.”10 So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went to the top of the hill. 11 As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. 12 When Moses' hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. 13 So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword. Moses trusts Joshua to lead the Israelites in battle against Amalek.      * A mentor recognizes the potential in a disciple and actively creates opportunities for their growth. Success is not a solo endeavor—we can only go as far as our team. If we operate alone, our capacity is limited. For actual multiplication, we must intentionally choose trustworthy individuals who, in turn, will disciple others with integrity. The body of Christ thrives only when all its members function together in unity and purpose. As leaders, our foremost responsibility is to identify the right people, position them effectively, and empower them to carry out the work with excellence.   2. Teaching Through Example   * Exodus 24:13-18: 13 Then Moses set out with Joshua his aide, and Moses went up on the mountain of God. 14 He said to the elders, “Wait here for us until we come back to you. Aaron and Hur are with you, and anyone involved in a dispute can go to them.”15 When Moses went up on the mountain, the cloud covered it, 16 and the glory of the Lord settled on Mount Sinai. For six days the cloud covered the mountain, and on the seventh day the Lord called to Moses from within the cloud. 17 To the Israelites the glory of the Lord looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain. 18 Then Moses entered the cloud as he went on up the mountain. And he stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights.      * A mentor invites their disciple into God's presence and demonstrates spiritual leadership through example. The goal of discipleship is not to draw people closer to themselves but to lead them closer to the Lord. We are not seeking to create replicas of ourselves; we aim to help others become more like Jesus. Discipleship is about more than transferring knowledge—facilitating encounters with God. Transformation happens as we behold the glory of the Lord, and worship is one of the primary ways God reshapes us. The effectiveness of our leadership and the grace we carry depend significantly on our ability to practice and dwell in the presence of God.   3. Empowering for Leadership   * Numbers 27:18-23: 18 So the Lord said to Moses, “Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit of leadership,[a] and lay your hand on him. 19 Have him stand before Eleazar the priest and the entire assembly and commission him in their presence. 20 Give him some of your authority so the whole Israelite community will obey him. 21 He is to stand before Eleazar the priest, who will obtain decisions for him by inquiring of the Urim before the Lord. At his command, he and the entire community of the Israelites will go out, and at his command, they will come in.” 22 Moses did as the Lord commanded him. He took Joshua and had him stand before Eleazar the priest and the whole assembly. 23 Then he laid his hands on him and commissioned him, as the Lord instructed through Moses.      * A mentor ensures that their disciple is well-prepared and accepted by others. Effective discipleship results in others recognizing the same wisdom, authority, and grace in our disciples that they see in us. Through Christ, we can impart what He has entrusted to us into the lives of those He places before us. Standing alongside those we have raised affirms our support and signals to others that these individuals are worthy of their trust and leadership. Commissioning is a powerful act that releases God's anointing and calling upon the individual, inspiring confidence and alignment among those who will follow them.   4. Releasing with Confidence    * Deuteronomy 34:9: 9 Now Joshua son of Nun was filled with the spirit[a] of wisdom because Moses had laid his hands on him. So, the Israelites listened to him and did what the Lord had commanded Moses.   *   * Effective discipleship involves entrusting the disciple with opportunities to lead. The more individuals carry what the Lord has imparted, the further His work can reach. However, just as a vessel cannot be filled until it is emptied, disciples must be led to surrender themselves entirely to God. Only then can they be genuinely filled with the Spirit and fully embrace their calling. When we see those we disciple walking in the power of the Holy Spirit and firmly placed in the Lord's hands, we can confidently trust that they will fulfill their God-given mission.   II. Joshua's Perspective: The Disciple   1. Learning Through Service   * Exodus 33:11: 11 The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but his young aide Joshua, son of Nun did not leave the tent.      * Time spent alone in God's presence is the most vital preparation for fulfilling the divine purpose of our lives. As ambassadors of Christ, our primary responsibility is to reflect His character and represent Him to the world. The depth of our impact is directly tied to the depth of our relationship with Him; the more intimately we know Christ, the more effectively we can carry out His mission.   2. Observing and Emulating   * Numbers 11:28-29: 28 Joshua son of Nun, who had been Moses' aide since youth, spoke up and said, “Moses, my lord, stop them!”29 But Moses replied, “Are you jealous for my sake? I wish that all the Lord's people were prophets and that the Lord would put his Spirit on them!”      * Joshua speaks up and tries to stop leaders who were prophesying; Moses rebukes Joshua, displaying his heart that he wished all of his leaders could prophesy. Joshua may have thought only Moses should be prophesying, for this was the first occurrence of anyone else operating in this gift. Yet Joshua's perspective did not fit the heart of Moses or God. A disciple learns humility and patience under a mentor's guidance.   3. Growing in Courage    * Joshua 1:6-9: 6 : “Be strong and courageous, for you are the one who will lead these people to possess all the land I swore to their ancestors I would give them. 7 Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or the left. Then, you will be successful in everything you do. 8 Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. 9 This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”      * A disciple must embrace their calling with unwavering confidence and courage, fortified by the preparation and guidance of their mentor. In this passage, God emphasizes three essential principles for spiritual leadership:     a. Obedience to God's Word: Success comes from diligently knowing, meditating on, and applying God's instructions. A leader's strength lies in their alignment with God's truth.     b. Faithful adherence to mentorship: Joshua is urged to follow Moses's instructions, recognizing the wisdom passed down through godly mentorship.     c. Dependence on God's presence: True courage flows from the assurance that the Lord is always with us, empowering and guiding us every step of the way.   * Spiritual leaders are not called to rely solely on their abilities but on God's promises and presence. Time spent alone with the Lord and a commitment to His Word prepares leaders to step boldly into their divine purpose.   * 4. Carrying the Vision Forward   * Joshua 24:14-15: 14 “So fear the Lord and serve him wholeheartedly. Put away forever the idols your ancestors worshiped when they lived beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord alone. 15 But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.”      * A disciple's success is measured by their faithfulness and ability to inspire and lead others to follow God wholeheartedly. Spiritual leaders are not focused on drawing people to themselves but on pointing them to the Lord. Joshua sets a powerful example of spiritual leadership by explicitly declaring that his allegiance and that of his household is to the Lord. He challenges the people to make a definitive choice, laying out the stark consequences of serving idols and the blessings of serving God. Leaders must similarly emphasize the urgency and gravity of choosing whom to serve. As disciples of Christ, we are called to lead others toward complete devotion to Jesus, rejecting any allegiance to idols or worldly influences. True discipleship prioritizes Christ as Lord, ensuring that those we guide are rooted in faithfulness to Him alone.   III. Lessons for Modern Discipleship 1. For Mentors:   * Identify and invest in potential leaders.   * Walk alongside disciples, modeling a life centered on God.   * Empower and release them with faith that God will continue the work through them. 2. For Disciples:   * Serve faithfully in preparation for leadership.   * Learn from the mentor's strengths and weaknesses.   * Seek God's guidance as you step into more significant responsibilities.   Conclusion * The relationship between Moses and Joshua demonstrates the power of discipleship to ensure the continuation of God's work. * Actual multiplication happens when leaders invest in disciples who, in turn, become leaders themselves. * Challenge: Who are you mentoring, and who is mentoring you in your walk with God?   -- Praise Tabernacle Dr. Joshua Kennedy, Pastor 2235 Ocean Heights  Egg Harbor Township, NJ 08234 pastorjosh@praisetabernacle.com praisetabernacle.church  (609) 927-4560(w

NOTES: SUCCESSFUL people do CONSISTENTLY what OTHER people do OCCASIONALLY. I don't really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don't do it. Instead, I do what I hate. And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can't. I want to do what is good, but I don't. I don't want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway. Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord.  Romans 7:15, 18-19, 24–25 (NLT) WHY DO WE GENERALLY FAIL? REASON #1: We focus on the OUTCOME and ignore the PROCESS. REASON #2: We want RESULTS now. Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin… Zechariah 4:10 (NLT) Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9 (NIV) REASON #3: We don't know WHO we really are. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down. Revelation 12:10 (NIV) WHO DO YOU WANT TO BECOME? We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin. Now you are free from your slavery to sin, and you have become slaves to righteous living. Romans 6:6–7, 18 (NLT) BOTTOM LINE: The DO overflows from WHO. THE CHALLENGE:  WHO do you want to become?

NOTES: When Jesus returned to Capernaum several days later, the news spread quickly that he was back home. Soon the house where he was staying was so packed with visitors that there was no more room, even outside the door. While he was preaching God's word to them, four men arrived carrying a paralyzed man on a mat. They couldn't bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, so they dug a hole through the roof above his head. Then they lowered the man on his mat, right down in front of Jesus. Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “My child, your sins are forgiven.” But some of the teachers of religious law who were sitting there thought to themselves, “What is he saying? This is blasphemy! Only God can forgive sins!” Jesus knew immediately what they were thinking, so he asked them, “Why do you question this in your hearts? Is it easier to say to the paralyzed man ‘Your sins are forgiven,' or ‘Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk'? So I will prove to you that the Son of Man has the authority on earth to forgive sins.” Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home!” And the man jumped up, grabbed his mat, and walked out through the stunned onlookers. They were all amazed and praised God, exclaiming, “We've never seen anything like this before!” Mark 2:1–12 (NLT) God uses RELATIONSHIPS to grow our FAITH in Him. Our main PROBLEM isn't the PROBLEM we think it is. It's IMPOSSIBLE to love God without SHARING his heart for people. BOTTOM LINE: HEALING is found at the feet of Jesus. THE CHALLENGE: WHO are you carrying and WHO'S carrying you?

Christ Has ComeJohn 1:1-14 NLTIn the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God,and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him,and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it. God sent a man, John the Baptist, to tell about the light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony. John himself was not the light; he was simply a witness to tell about the light. The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He came into the very world he created, but the world didn't recognize him. He came to his own people, and even they rejected him. But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God. So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father's one and only Son. • • •Sermon Points:1. Christ Revealed (v.1-5,14)2. Tax collectors and other notorious sinners often came to listen to Jesus teach. This made the Pharisees and teachers of religious law complain that he was associating with such sinful people—even eating with them! Luke 15:1-2 (NLT) So Jesus told them this story: “If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them gets lost, what will he do? Won't he leave the ninety-nine others in the wilderness and go to search for the one that is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he will joyfully carry it home on his shoulders. When he arrives, he will call together his friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.' In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven't strayed away! How is it possible both are true at the same time? John 10:10 Galatians 4:7, 31 What things can we become enslaved to in life? What questions can weigh us down? What areas of life feel most overwhelming right now? Areas youth/young adults feel the yokes the most and why Who am I? Identity confusion of adolescence + young adulthood – Satan would love to take this and run with it, weigh you down with confusion, trying to figure it out is a yoke somewhat specific to young adulthood, but not necessarily Relationship decisions – identity + who do I want to spend time with, dating, sexuality, friendship What do I believe for myself, rebellion, conformity, and everything in between – what is truth, what matters most Academics, knowing feels more important than anything, freedom doesn’t come from knowing, although it’s a start The struggle of worth, guilt, shame, Am I forgivable? Why in the world am I here? Purpose - God’s plans for our future – What plans are you concerned about?   Why your voice matters for someone next to you… The uniqueness of your life position, place, and time Don’t want to hear it from an adult We need each other God created the church for a purpose It isn’t all about you…contrary to what Satan would have you believe, he wants isolation and self obsession Knowing Christ – Psalm 119:36-40 Knowing one another – Philippians 2:3-5 Question: How do we begin to know God more and deeper through the work of the Spirit according to these verses? Question: How do we begin to know others deeper according to these verses? How does God lead and guide us in our relationship with others?   Challenge: Who do I have unique influence with around me? What questions might they have about life, freedom, and Christ, what yokes do they bear?   ESV Bible translation - Copyright © 2001 by Crossway, a publishing ministry of Good News Publishers. I Love My Shepherd 28 – Chasing Freedom Audio Bonus 4: Refusing Someone Else’s Identity: It’s a Joint Effort What does it mean to be a Child of God? Freedom from the beginning, through the redemption plan Sin’s confusion in our existing freedom What identities would Satan want us to find ourselves in, rather than as God’s child? Sexual identity Vocational identity Identity in hobbies and recreation The difference between in identity in creation v. restoration God has always been at work for our freedom Sin distrupts our status as children We need restoration in Christ though to return to this relationship to be God’s children Baptized children of God have already been given restoration that created children do not This is our identity – Created Child of God Baptized Child of God What is remembering our baptisms? How do you remember yours? How can we remind one another of ours? Why is this so hard to hold on to, to remember? This is the core – Satan wants to destroy our identity. He wants us to doubt it. He wants us to trade it in for the yoke – worthless, not enough, hurtful, untrustworthy, powerless, helpless, etc. etc. Which of these does he try to put in your head? (Or add your own! Let’s give it light.) The Galatians had this same problem – Galatians 4:28-31 They need Paul and one another to remember who they are in Christ Satan starts at the root with all of us, including the Galatians – Who are you? Paul says, “Children of the Promise.” Children of the Promised Messiah. God gives us Jesus for this freedom – Galatians 5:1 God created the Church for this purpose – to hold on to freedom, it’s a joint effort Acts 1:14-15 What place does our relationship with one another have in helping us understand our identity as well as our freedom? Remind one another of freedom Discern freedom Release for freedom, helping one another throw the yokes off Let us begin with grace today and every day...together. To Walk in grace is to offer freedom to someone, quite tangibly. James 4:6-8 – more grace, humility to be a people who need each other – it’s a joint effort Challenge: Who can you share grace with today? How can you begin with grace this day and every day to remember your baptismal identity and to help one other person remember theirs?

Show Notes: I Love My Shepherd 22 – Chasing Freedom Audio Bonus 1: Freedom to Let Him Write that Story It can not be argued that the apostle Paul has a fantastic story.   We can chase freedom through rumors, gossip, and reputation.             Where have you seen this? We can chase freedom by wanting someone else’s life and testimony.             What parts of your life or times in your life have you wished for something else?     Galatians 1:11-24             Paul's story is different from every other apostle's story each of our stories are different and look different What has God done in your story that stands out to you, looks different? no one’s story is lesser than, or better than   Wiersbe Bible Commentary – His nonconformity was divinely deliberate.   Freedom through transformation Paul's transformation is a huge testimony to God's work that can not be ignored We are the giant blinking sign that says, “God at work here!” 3 things God did in Paul's life, through the Spirit, to reveal Himself to others v17 Paul studied the Word v18 Paul met with people  v19-20 Paul let his story shine God's Gospel light   The beauty of letting God, not man, not even myself write that story, write my story. Challenge: Who can you share your story with today? How can you share your story?      ESV Bible translation - Copyright © 2001 by Crossway, a publishing ministry of Good News Publishers.
