I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2625 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. In today's Wisdom Nugget, we're continuing our exploration of Psalm 66 in the New Living Translation, picking up where we left off and delving into verses 8 through 15. In our last trek, we heard the psalmist's exhilarating call for all the earth to shout joyful praises to God, acknowledging His awesome deeds and universal power. Now, the focus shifts slightly, moving from the broad scope of God's global sovereignty to a more intimate look at His relationship with His people – how He preserves, tests, and ultimately delivers them. These verses speak to the sometimes challenging, yet always purposeful, path that God leads us on. They offer a perspective that would have resonated deeply with the Israelites, a nation whose history was a vivid tapestry of miraculous preservation and refining trials. As we journey through this passage, let's consider what it meant to them, and what it means for us today on our own personal and collective wisdom treks. Let's read Psalm 66, verses 8 through 12: (Reads Psalm 66:8-12 NLT) Let the whole world bless our God and loudly sing his praises. For he keeps us alive and prevents our feet from slipping. You, O God, have tested us, refining us like silver. You sent us into prison and laid burdens on our backs. You let our enemies trample over our heads. We went through fire and water, but you brought us to a place of abundance. Guthrie Chamberlain: The psalmist begins this section by echoing the universal call to praise from the opening verses, but with a slightly different emphasis: “Let the whole world bless our God and loudly sing his praises.” The word “bless” here implies a deep sense of reverence and thankfulness, acknowledging God as the source of all goodness. It's a call for a vocal, audible expression of this blessing – not a silent gratitude, but a declared praise that can be heard by others. The reason for this renewed call to praise is deeply personal and communal for the people of God: “For he keeps us alive and prevents our feet from slipping.” In the ancient world, life was often precarious. The threat of disease, famine, war, and natural disaster was ever-present. To be kept alive, to have one's “soul in life” (as some translations render the Hebrew), was a profound blessing worthy of continuous praise. The imagery of “preventing our feet from slipping” speaks to God's protection from stumbling, falling, or being utterly overthrown by the dangers that surrounded them. Think of trekking on a narrow, treacherous mountain path – one wrong step could be disastrous. The psalmist is praising God for being the sure ground beneath their feet, their stability in a shaky world. Then comes a remarkable and perhaps, to our modern ears, a challenging declaration: “You, O God, have tested us, refining us like silver.” This isn't the voice of someone complaining about hardship; it's the voice of someone who
Discipling our kids comes in two forms—taught and caught. We need to teach them about our faith, how to have a relationship with Christ, and the value of God's Word. But what is so crucial is to allow them to catch us living out our faith in front of them. Honestly, the “taught” part is often easier than the “caught”. Because it's more of a “don't do as I do, do as I say” thing. But God wants to use our kids in our lives to make us more like Jesus just as much as He wants to use us in their lives.Proverbs 22:6 is an often-quoted verse that offers us a clear command but also makes a promise. A promise … not a guarantee.Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it. (NLT) Let's take the verse apart … Direct your children … to direct, you have to be engaged, either beside them or leading them.Onto the right path … in light of being in the Bible, the right path is the one that leads toward God.And when they are older …. Kids are easier to influence when they are young. Leading in the right direction toward God at a young age builds a foundation for later.They will not leave it … again, this can't be a guarantee because people walk away from their faith, or refuse it. But let's think of it this way: our job is to pour God into our kids, so later, He can use our influence in their hearts.Listen once again, this time in The Message … Point your kids in the right direction—when they're old they won't be lost.So a great place to start on discipling your kids in spiritual training is simply to keep asking: Where am I pointing my kids? And then to ask: Is my “caught” pointing the same place as my “taught”?What is way I can point my kids in the right direction this week?What is something that should shift in my day to day walk that would provide an opportunity for my kids to catch me walking in faith?Need to make some adjustments? That's okay, God's grace and mercy is there to make all the adjustments you need to make, for you and your kids.Let's pray together: “Heavenly Father, I need You to teach me what you need my kids to know about You. Lead me when I pray. Guide me in Your Word. Help me to catch all I can from you in any way I possibly can. As above, so below.”

Inside our theme of love this month, this week we are going to talk about the importance of intimacy. Intimacy is the word to describe when people get really close, like a dad to a daughter, a mother to her son, a husband to a wife, or God to us.The best way to remember what intimacy means is to just say the word by its syllables. In-to-me-see. Intimacy is allowing someone to see your heart, who you truly are. No hiding. Being honest.Love, especially God's love, allows us to get close to people and then grow in that closeness. We often call this a “two-way street” as in this kind of closeness takes each one to work on the relationship and get closer. When this happens in a healthy manner, love grows, closeness comes, and intimacy deepens. Let's look at one short, simple verse that talks about intimacy with God and makes a powerful promise.Come close to God, and God will come close to you. (James 4:8 NLT)When we first read this verse, we can misunderstand the meaning, as if God is saying, “You make the first move and then I'll respond to you.” But we have to remember this verse was written after Jesus had died on the cross and was resurrected. God has already made the first move toward us through Christ. Now, He is saying when you reach out to me, because of Jesus, we can immediately be close, just like Jesus was close with the Father.With that thought in mind, let's read this verse one more time.Come close to God, and God will come close to you. (James 4:8 NLT)Let's paraphrase the verse this way, “Whenever you choose to be close to God, He is already there, waiting, ready to receive you.” That is real intimacy, when someone is always there for you, no matter what.Here's a question to think about …How do you think you can know God is close to you?Let's pray together: “Heavenly Father, thank You that You promise You will be close to me, that You will say, “in-to-me-see”. Help me to trust You and always respond with, ‘God, in-to-me-see.' As above, so below.”

David stated in Psalm 24:1: The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him. (NLT) People tend to either believe God created the world or He didn't. And then if someone believes He did, the next step of faith is believing whether or not He is actively involved in the lives of the people walking on His planet. King David was clear. The earth belongs to God. Everything in and on the earth belongs to God. The entire world and even all the people belong to Him. If we believe this to be true, then we are never actually owners of anything while we are here. How do you view what you have, as you being the owner or the steward? How might being a steward change your mindset? Listen once again to Psalm 24:1: The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him. We know the old saying, “You can't take it with you when you go.” Just more evidence that we are merely borrowing everything we have while we are here. To trust God with our lives and to ask Him for help, we must first see everything as His and come to accept we are stewards of His blessings, responsible and accountable to Him. A Recipe for Practicing a Good Life Philippians 4-9 (NLT)“Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice! Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon. Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God's peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Ecclesiastes 10:2 MESS Wise thinking leads to right living; Stupid thinking leads to wrong living. Everything BEGINS with a THOUGHT. Romans 12:2 Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. What you THINK determines how you FEEL. Philippians 4:8-9 NIV Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you. Our thoughts DETERMINE our DESTINY. Romans 8:5-6 Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace. You can't CONTROL your thinking, but you can CAPTURE it. 4 Ways To Capture Your Thoughts: 1. I am going to EXAMINE my thoughts. Hebrews 4:12 NIV For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 2. I am going to REPLACE my thoughts. Romans 12:2 NIV Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. 3. I am going to DIRECT my thoughts. Isaiah 26:3 You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! Colossians 3:2 NLT Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. 4. I am going to GROW my thoughts. Hebrews 10:24-25 NLT Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. Our final passage for this week is a familiar one, but has so many great applications for our lives to encourage us to seize the day … Philippians 3:12-16 … I don't mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. Let all who are spiritually mature agree on these things. If you disagree on some point, I believe God will make it plain to you. But we must hold on to the progress we have already made. (NLT) Let's focus on what Paul said he focused on … this one thing … forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead. When we move on, but are constantly looking backwards, something is wrong. Remember—Paul had a lot of horrible violence in his past, all done in the name of religion. He had a lot to forget, but he stated exactly how he had to choose to move forward into what Christ had for his life. Great advice … Listen to this passage once again in The Message Bible … I'm not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don't get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I've got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I'm off and running, and I'm not turning back. So let's keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us. If any of you have something else in mind, something less than total commitment, God will clear your blurred vision—you'll see it yet! Now that we're on the right track, let's stay on it. What has God shown you this week? What has He called you to let go of … for the last time? Lay it down and never turn back? What has He called you to take on and never let go of? We pray you have found some healing and health this week. That's always our goal, to connect you to Christ. Let's pray together: “Heavenly Father, today, I need to, for the final time, let go of what You have told me to let go of. I need to listen to You and take up what You have called me to take up. As above, so below.”

The thief's purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. John 10:10 NLT For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12 NLT 'For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of his body, the church. As the church submits to Christ, so you wives should submit to your husbands in everything. For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God's word. He did this to present her to himself as a glorious church without a spot or wrinkle or any other blemish. Instead, she will be holy and without fault. In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself. No one hates his own body but feeds and cares for it, just as Christ cares for the church. And we are members of his body. As the Scriptures say, “A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.” This is a great mystery, but it is an illustration of the way Christ and the church are one. So again I say, each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband. He did this to present her to himself as a glorious church without a spot or wrinkle or any other blemish. Instead, she will be holy and without fault. Discipling our kids comes in two forms—taught and caught. We need to teach them about our faith, how to have a relationship with Christ, and the value of God's Word. But what is so crucial is to allow them to catch us living out our faith in front of them. Honestly, the “taught” part is often easier than the “caught”. Because it's more of a “don't do as I do, do as I say” thing. But God wants to use our kids in our lives to make us more like Jesus just as much as He wants to use us in their lives. Proverbs 22:6 is an often-quoted verse that offers us a clear command but also makes a promise. A promise … not a guarantee. Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it. (NLT) Let's take the verse apart … Direct your children … to direct, you have to be engaged, either beside them or leading them. Onto the right path … in light of being in the Bible, the right path is the one that leads toward God. And when they are older …. Kids are easier to influence when they are young. Leading in the right direction toward God at a young age builds a foundation for later. They will not leave it … again, this can't be a guarantee because people walk away from their faith, or refuse it. But let's think of it this way: our job is to pour God into our kids, so later, He can use our influence in their hearts. Listen once again, this time in The Message … Point your kids in the right direction—when they're old they won't be lost. So a great place to start on discipling your kids in spiritual training is simply to keep asking: Where am I pointing my kids? And then to ask: Is my “caught” pointing the same place as my “taught”? What is way I can point my kids in the right direction this week? What is something that should shift in my day to day walk that would provide an opportunity for my kids to catch me walking in faith? Need to make some adjustments? That's okay, God's grace and mercy is there to make all the adjustments you need to make, for you and your kids. Let's pray together: “Heavenly Father, I need You to teach me what you need my kids to know about You. Lead me when I pray. Guide me in Your Word. Help me to catch all I can from you in any way I possibly can. As above, so below.”

Inside our theme of love this month, this week we are going to talk about the importance of intimacy. Intimacy is the word to describe when people get really close, like a dad to a daughter, a mother to her son, a husband to a wife, or God to us. The best way to remember what intimacy means is to just say the word by its syllables. In-to-me-see. Intimacy is allowing someone to see your heart, who you truly are. No hiding. Being honest. Love, especially God's love, allows us to get close to people and then grow in that closeness. We often call this a “two-way street” as in this kind of closeness takes each one to work on the relationship and get closer. When this happens in a healthy manner, love grows, closeness comes, and intimacy deepens. Let's look at one short, simple verse that talks about intimacy with God and makes a powerful promise. Come close to God, and God will come close to you. (James 4:8 NLT) When we first read this verse, we can misunderstand the meaning, as if God is saying, “You make the first move and then I'll respond to you.” But we have to remember this verse was written after Jesus had died on the cross and was resurrected. God has already made the first move toward us through Christ. Now, He is saying when you reach out to me, because of Jesus, we can immediately be close, just like Jesus was close with the Father. With that thought in mind, let's read this verse one more time. Come close to God, and God will come close to you. (James 4:8 NLT) Let's paraphrase the verse this way, “Whenever you choose to be close to God, He is already there, waiting, ready to receive you.” That is real intimacy, when someone is always there for you, no matter what. Here's a question to think about … How do you think you can know God is close to you? Let's pray together: “Heavenly Father, thank You that You promise You will be close to me, that You will say, “in-to-me-see”. Help me to trust You and always respond with, ‘God, in-to-me-see.' As above, so below.”
Pastor Dale Benson As I began to prepare this message to discuss what it means to be a neighbor, I began to run through story after story of people who have come to church lately because of someone they worked with, or someone they lived near, or someone who took time to sit down with them and teach them about Christ. If you are new here, I would love to invite you to be a part of that DNA. To learn what is means to be a neighbor by following the example of others who are already a part of our church family. There is a story that is found in Matthew, Mark, and Luke from various viewpoints. In Matthew, the religious leaders ask Jesus the question as a trap. In Mark, Jesus is asked the question, answers, and the Jewish ruler expounds, and Jesus commends him. In Luke, the question seems to be a sincere inquiry. Luke 10:25-29 (NLT) - This is how I know Jesus was from Southern Judah or Israel. He doesn't answer the question. He doesn't give another question right away. Jesus goes on to tell a story. I am not going to assume everyone knows the story. I am not even sure the phrase carries the same meaning it used to. Do you know what a "Good Samaritan" is? - You know, someone who pays the few dollars you are short when you are in line at the grocery store? - You know, someone who stops when your car is broken down and you need gas or a jump for your battery? - We call those people "good Samaritans." The Story of The Good Samaritan - This was a novel idea for Jewish people of Jesus' day. But He gives them this story to demonstrate something. The Jews thought they were morally superior to the Samaritans. They were also looking for the parameters by which they could fulfill the law and its commands. How far does my neighborliness need to extend? I looked to find definitions of neighbors and was not shocked to find the definitions I found, except for the supposed biblical definition. Neigh-bor / näbar/ - Noun - a person living near or next door to the speaker or person referred to: "Our garden was the envy of the neighbors." - a person or place in relation to others near or next to it: "I chatted with my neighbor on the flight to New York" - any person in need of one's help or kindness (after biblical use): "Love thy neighbor as thyself." In the story of the Good Samaritan, the point was not who was being helped. The neighbor was the person who was helping. Luke 10:36-37 (NLT) - Let me give you an example from where you live. If someone is not very helpful. They don't say hi to you. They don't seem to want to come chat with other neighbors. They don't help with neighborhood cleanup days, you say, "They aren't a very good 'neighbor'" or, "They aren't very neighborly." - Are you neighborly? I learned a new word last week. I am sure I will use it more often in the future when the book finally comes out... "Are you hostable?" Jesus didn't just cross the street to help you. Jesus crossed heaven to earth and picked up His cross for you. Whether you are a Jewish Ruler of the Law, a Samaritan, or the person who is lying broken and wounded on the side of the road, this story is for you. I am sure this building and the online audience is filled with plenty of people in each of these categories. Each of us may approach this story with a different question: - Why does Jesus want to care for me? - What is my place in this neighborhood?
NOTES: SUCCESSFUL people do CONSISTENTLY what OTHER people do OCCASIONALLY. I don't really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don't do it. Instead, I do what I hate. And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can't. I want to do what is good, but I don't. I don't want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway. Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 7:15, 18-19, 24–25 (NLT) WHY DO WE GENERALLY FAIL? REASON #1: We focus on the OUTCOME and ignore the PROCESS. REASON #2: We want RESULTS now. Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin… Zechariah 4:10 (NLT) Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9 (NIV) REASON #3: We don't know WHO we really are. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down. Revelation 12:10 (NIV) WHO DO YOU WANT TO BECOME? We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin. Now you are free from your slavery to sin, and you have become slaves to righteous living. Romans 6:6–7, 18 (NLT) BOTTOM LINE: The DO overflows from WHO. THE CHALLENGE: WHO do you want to become?

Pastor Dale Benson Psalm 102 The “What If” questions of today will have repercussion for the realities of tomorrow. Throughout scripture we have times and places where the people of God are called to do something big. Then they are called to commemorate these things and remember them. Psalm 102:18 (NLT) - Let this be recorded for future generations. The nation of Israel had ways of passing down information to their children and their children's children. Even before they began writing on paper, they would leave tributes or monoliths, or stacks of stones to remind them of stories. - We do the same things here. Over the last 15 years I know that we have talked about Ebeneezer and setting up stones that serve as reminders to our children so that as they grow, they can remember the lessons they learned. We do this so that when people walk by and ask, “why is this here” we can tell them a story about what God did. For many of us, these stories have meaning in our lives because we are remembering stories we taught our kids. We remember the sacrifices that were made, and the miracles God did. We tell our children. As we think about our families and children, and the world they will be living in, there are some things I think I need to address as the pastor of this people: - I do not believe that I have ever urged people to vote for or against anything. As a church, we very strongly believe in sanctity of human life. While we do describe situations and circumstances where exceptions may be necessary, the amendment that is before our state is, so I am urging and pleading with you to vote no on issue 1. This is not a political issue. This is a moral and spiritual issue. - I could not, in good conscience, speak to you today about “recording something for future generations… for a people not yet born,” and not address this issue and again ask you to “Vote No on Issue 1.” - These are tough decisions for so many people. Part of our job as the church is to educate our families, our children, our students on a Christian view of healthy sexuality and how to raise our children. Our NextGen ministries, Grove City Christian School, and Grove City Christian Childcare are all pieces of the puzzle that help families begin to have a biblical worldview and an understanding of the fullness of God and His love for us. The changes come at a cost. There will be other stories on this property where others will hear about the goodness of God. Things will be recorded there for future generations to tell of the good works of God! We are building a testimony to the goodness of God. When people ask, “Why would a church build all this stuff and have disc golf and gymnasiums and football fields and on and on,” the answer is going to be way different than what they think. You see these things are being built so that others can learn about the goodness of God. They can declare His works for generations to come.
David stated in Psalm 24:1: The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him. (NLT) People tend to either believe God created the world or He didn't. And then if someone believes He did, the next step of faith is believing whether or not He is actively involved in the lives of the people walking on His planet. King David was clear. The earth belongs to God. Everything in and on the earth belongs to God. The entire world and even all the people belong to Him. If we believe this to be true, then we are never actually owners of anything while we are here. How do you view what you have, as you being the owner or the steward? How might being a steward change your mindset? Listen once again to Psalm 24:1: The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him. (NLT) Let's offer a personalized version: What I have on the earth is the Lord's, and everything in my life. My world and all the people I know belong to him. We know the old saying, “You can't take it with you when you go.” Just more evidence that we are merely borrowing everything we have while we are here. To trust God with our lives and to ask Him for help, we must first see everything as His and come to accept we are stewards of His blessings, responsible and accountable to Him. Let's pray: “Father, I confess my world is yours and everything in it. Remind me every day that the world and all the people are yours. Help me to be a good steward of all I have and all You allow me to hold while I am here. As above, so below.”

Having just gone through major open heart surgery to replace my calcified aortic valve, I have a lot of appreciation for Jesus being a healer. Then the Pharisees called a meeting to plot how to kill Jesus. But Jesus knew what they were planning. So he left that area, and many people followed him. Our final passage for this week is a familiar one, but has so many great applications for our lives to encourage us to seize the day … Philippians 3:12-16 … I don't mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. Let all who are spiritually mature agree on these things. If you disagree on some point, I believe God will make it plain to you. But we must hold on to the progress we have already made. (NLT) Let's focus on what Paul said he focused on … this one thing … forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead. When we move on, but are constantly looking backwards, something is wrong. Remember—Paul had a lot of horrible violence in his past, all done in the name of religion. He had a lot to forget, but he stated exactly how he had to choose to move forward into what Christ had for his life. Great advice … Listen to this passage once again in The Message Bible … I'm not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don't get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I've got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I'm off and running, and I'm not turning back. So let's keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us. If any of you have something else in mind, something less than total commitment, God will clear your blurred vision—you'll see it yet! Now that we're on the right track, let's stay on it. What has God shown you this week? What has He called you to let go of … for the last time? Lay it down and never turn back? What has He called you to take on and never let go of? We pray you have found some healing and health this week. That's always our goal, to connect you to Christ. Let's pray together: “Heavenly Father, today, I need to, for the final time, let go of what You have told me to let go of. I need to listen to You and take up what You have called me to take up. As above, so below.”
Discipling our kids comes in two forms—taught and caught. We need to teach them about our faith, how to have a relationship with Christ, and the value of God's Word. But what is so crucial is to allow them to catch us living out our faith in front of them. Honestly, the “taught” part is often easier than the “caught”. Because it's more of a “don't do as I do, do as I say” thing. But God wants to use our kids in our lives to make us more like Jesus just as much as He wants to use us in their lives. Proverbs 22:6 is an often-quoted verse that offers us a clear command but also makes a promise. A promise … not a guarantee. Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it. (NLT) Let's take the verse apart … Direct your children … to direct, you have to be engaged, either beside them or leading them. Onto the right path … in light of being in the Bible, the right path is the one that leads toward God. And when they are older …. Kids are easier to influence when they are young. Leading in the right direction toward God at a young age builds a foundation for later. They will not leave it … again, this can't be a guarantee because people walk away from their faith, or refuse it. But let's think of it this way: our job is to pour God into our kids, so later, He can use our influence in their hearts. Listen once again, this time in The Message … Point your kids in the right direction—when they're old they won't be lost. So a great place to start on discipling your kids in spiritual training is simply to keep asking: Where am I pointing my kids? And then to ask: Is my “caught” pointing the same place as my “taught”? What is way I can point my kids in the right direction this week? What is something that should shift in my day to day walk that would provide an opportunity for my kids to catch me walking in faith? Need to make some adjustments? That's okay, God's grace and mercy is there to make all the adjustments you need to make, for you and your kids. Let's pray together: “Heavenly Father, I need You to teach me what you need my kids to know about You. Lead me when I pray. Guide me in Your Word. Help me to catch all I can from you in any way I possibly can. As above, so below.
INTRODUCTION: ‘TIS THE SEASON: WINTER- PREPARATION/PROVISION/PROGRESSION/PROCLAMATIONSCRIPTURES: PSALM 1:3 (KJV)- “And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.” PSALM 103:1-5 (NLT)- “Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name. 2 Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me. 3 He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. 4 He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. 5 He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagles!6 The Lord gives righteousness and justice to all who are treated unfairly. This verse tells us that we have to be planted and rooted so that we can produce. Look at what it says that I will produce fruit in my season to bear fruit. God is trying to tell you that no matter what season you are in when it's your time, nothing can stop what He has produced. My brothers and sisters none of us can escape spiritual winters and we don't know when they will come but we can prepare for them. Notice I said them because they will keep coming. This season is about us seeing God do the impossible on the inside of us, we can't see the roots (faith) but we are trusting the process. We have to do our part, Preparing and Proclaiming, and God will do the Providing and Progressing. Y'all, there are so many people we know who are going through different seasons than we are, they may be in the season of reaping, rejoicing and reproducing and we may question God about the season we are in: why me, why now, or why this? Just remember God knows what it will take to make your roots grow wide and deep ( he knows what it's going to take to get you through this winter season). LESSONS IN MY WINTER SEASONS:1. I must learn to accept and receive in the winter season whatever God wants to do in my life. I have learned not to hurry thru but am surrendering and appreciating what God is doing on the inside of me. God is maturing me, I am seeing and feeling the progress. Aren't you?2. I am looking forward to the new opportunities for God to use me and trusting God even more. He is giving me more even when on the outside my situation may be looking bleak and barren.3. My winter has been about talking to God about my future, and His desires for me (my dreams, my weakness, my failures, my sins, my heartaches) I'm letting Him cultivate them the way they should be so I am ready for my next winter season.4. I realized that my dormancy has been necessary for growth and my future fruit (it is the type of rest that winter forces on you) It has to happen before I have fruit that will last. I am learning to ask and use wisdom in my winter and just invite it in as a guest (it comes unexpectedly but it doesn't stay forever).5. My winter season has been so much better since I walk and not run in it, I am realizing that God is truly more than enough and He is always with me and gives me exactly what I need. 6. I am learning that if I use this season wisely, resting, sharpen my tools (faith), changing my diet, and bad habits. It has not been difficult, out of control, or a hopeless situation. I have been reflecting on what God has brought me through and His faithfulness in my past winters and I can be assured that He will continue to walk with me. Prayer to Have and to be Better Friends I believe the change we want to see around us, starts with us. And I am believing God with you for better.
Inside our theme of love this month, this week we are going to talk about the importance of intimacy. Intimacy is the word to describe when people get really close, like a dad to a daughter, a mother to her son, a husband to a wife, or God to us. The best way to remember what intimacy means is to just say the word by its syllables. In-to-me-see. Intimacy is allowing someone to see your heart, who you truly are. No hiding. Being honest. Love, especially God's love, allows us to get close to people and then grow in that closeness. We often call this a “two-way street” as in this kind of closeness takes each one to work on the relationship and get closer. When this happens in a healthy manner, love grows, closeness comes, and intimacy deepens. Let's look at one short, simple verse that talks about intimacy with God and makes a powerful promise. Come close to God, and God will come close to you. (James 4:8 NLT) When we first read this verse, we can misunderstand the meaning, as if God is saying, “You make the first move and then I'll respond to you.” But we have to remember this verse was written after Jesus had died on the cross and was resurrected. God has already made the first move toward us through Christ. Now, He is saying when you reach out to me, because of Jesus, we can immediately be close, just like Jesus was close with the Father. With that thought in mind, let's read this verse one more time. Come close to God, and God will come close to you. (James 4:8 NLT) Let's paraphrase the verse this way, “Whenever you choose to be close to God, He is already there, waiting, ready to receive you.” That is real intimacy, when someone is always there for you, no matter what. Here's a question to think about … How do you think you can know God is close to you? Let's pray together: “Heavenly Father, thank You that You promise You will be close to me, that You will say, “in-to-me-see”. Help me to trust You and always respond with, ‘God, in-to-me-see.' As above, so below.”

David stated in Psalm 24:1: The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him. (NLT) People tend to either believe God created the world or He didn't. And then if someone believes He did, the next step of faith is believing whether or not He is actively involved in the lives of the people walking on His planet. King David was clear. The earth belongs to God. Everything in and on the earth belongs to God. The entire world and even all the people belong to Him. If we believe this to be true, then we are never actually owners of anything while we are here. How do you view what you have, as you being the owner or the steward? How might being a steward change your mindset? Listen once again to Psalm 24:1: The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him. (NLT) Let's offer a personalized version: What I have on the earth is the Lord's, and everything in my life. My world and all the people I know belong to him. We know the old saying, “You can't take it with you when you go.” Just more evidence that we are merely borrowing everything we have while we are here. To trust God with our lives and to ask Him for help, we must first see everything as His and come to accept we are stewards of His blessings, responsible and accountable to Him. Let's pray: “Father, I confess my world is yours and everything in it. Remind me every day that the world and all the people are yours. Help me to be a good steward of all I have and all You allow me to hold while I am here. As above, so below.”

But they wouldn't admit it for fear that the Pharisees would expel them from the synagogue. For they loved human praise more than the praise of God.” John 12:42-43 NLT Wins. “Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely. Our final passage for this week is a familiar one, but has so many great applications for our lives to encourage us to seize the day … Philippians 3:12-16 … I don't mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. Let all who are spiritually mature agree on these things. If you disagree on some point, I believe God will make it plain to you. But we must hold on to the progress we have already made. (NLT) Let's focus on what Paul said he focused on … this one thing … forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead. When we move on, but are constantly looking backwards, something is wrong. Remember—Paul had a lot of horrible violence in his past, all done in the name of religion. He had a lot to forget, but he stated exactly how he had to choose to move forward into what Christ had for his life. Great advice … Listen to this passage once again in The Message Bible … I'm not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don't get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I've got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I'm off and running, and I'm not turning back. So let's keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us. If any of you have something else in mind, something less than total commitment, God will clear your blurred vision—you'll see it yet! Now that we're on the right track, let's stay on it. What has God shown you this week? What has He called you to let go of … for the last time? Lay it down and never turn back? What has He called you to take on and never let go of? We pray you have found some healing and health this week. That's always our goal, to connect you to Christ. Let's pray together: “Heavenly Father, today, I need to, for the final time, let go of what You have told me to let go of. I need to listen to You and take up what You have called me to take up. As above, so below.”

You were made for friendship with God. Friends talk. How do you fellowship with Him? How do you cultivate a relationship with God? Discipling our kids comes in two forms—taught and caught. We need to teach them about our faith, how to have a relationship with Christ, and the value of God's Word. But what is so crucial is to allow them to catch us living out our faith in front of them. Honestly, the “taught” part is often easier than the “caught”. Because it's more of a “don't do as I do, do as I say” thing. But God wants to use our kids in our lives to make us more like Jesus just as much as He wants to use us in their lives. Proverbs 22:6 is an often-quoted verse that offers us a clear command but also makes a promise. A promise … not a guarantee. Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it. (NLT) Let's take the verse apart … Direct your children … to direct, you have to be engaged, either beside them or leading them. Onto the right path … in light of being in the Bible, the right path is the one that leads toward God. And when they are older …. Kids are easier to influence when they are young. Leading in the right direction toward God at a young age builds a foundation for later. They will not leave it … again, this can't be a guarantee because people walk away from their faith, or refuse it. But let's think of it this way: our job is to pour God into our kids, so later, He can use our influence in their hearts. Listen once again, this time in The Message … Point your kids in the right direction—when they're old they won't be lost. So a great place to start on discipling your kids in spiritual training is simply to keep asking: Where am I pointing my kids? And then to ask: Is my “caught” pointing the same place as my “taught”? What is way I can point my kids in the right direction this week? What is something that should shift in my day to day walk that would provide an opportunity for my kids to catch me walking in faith? Need to make some adjustments? That's okay, God's grace and mercy is there to make all the adjustments you need to make, for you and your kids. Let's pray together: “Heavenly Father, I need You to teach me what you need my kids to know about You. Lead me when I pray. Guide me in Your Word. Help me to catch all I can from you in any way I possibly can. As above, so below.”
