TunedUp founder Ryan Getz included “Breathing Room” in his coveted Top Songs of 2023 list, highlighting the influence this songbird has on listeners. Frances has written and co-written over 300 songs with hit writers such as Billy Lee (“The One” by Gary Allan), Kevin So (“Crush On You” by India Arie), and country singer Matt Stell (“Prayed for You”). Highly sought after as a collaborator, up-and-coming artists such Penny Eau (“Deep Blue”) and Haley Rosenthal (“Me Attacking Me”) released songs co-written with Frances last year.2023 proved to be another momentous year. The Community of Rodeo: The world of rodeo and word “community” go hand-in-hand. With roots dating back to America's agricultural and ranching past, rodeo has continued to pave-the-way for the preservation and protection of a lifestyle that is still relevant in our modern world. While modern advancements have changed the course of America's Western Heritage, the love for this lifestyle continues to thrive through the sport of rodeo.  History of Rodeo Royalty Rodeo in the West been a local tradition since it was started by families as a community festival with horse races, picnics, games and a parade. From the beginning rodeos depend on the spirit, dedication, hard work and collaboration of volunteer members to provide their community with an opportunity to experience true western heritage through the historical sport of rodeo. Riding Pretty: Rodeo Royalty in the American West (Women in the West) by Renée M. Laegreid (Author) Riding Pretty examines the history, evolution, and significance of the community-sponsored rodeo queen, from the introduction of this new phenomenon at the 1910 Pendleton Round-Up to the advent of Miss Rodeo America in 1956 and places the main theme—connection of queens to community—within the context of the evolution of rodeo as a spectator sport and the changing concepts of gender relations in the American West. From 1910 to 1956, the community-sponsored rodeo queen's role expanded, both in terms of her responsibilities and in terms of the community she represented, local, regional, and national. While each community adapted the rodeo queen phenomenon to suit the characteristics of its own celebration, the main characteristics of the role remained: the rodeo queen as a symbol of the local rodeo and as a metaphor for western women.   Meet Our Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo Queens: Mary Caldwell Weppner, Miss Frontier 1961 Mary was born and raised in Cheyenne. Mary is founding board member of the Old West Museum, serving on the committee that started the “Cheyenne Frontier Days Western Art Show and Sale” for thirty years. She went to Stephens College in Missouri and graduated from University of Wyoming majoring in speech and education. Mary is married to Ed Weppner. She and her husband Ed have three children, Rob, Ginny, and Tricia. Mary's grandfather, Dugald Whitaker moved to Wyoming in the late 1890s and developed the Whitaker Ranch along Horse Creek near Cheyenne after following one of his older brothers to Wyoming. Mary's favorite memories of her reign as Miss Frontier was traveling with Princess Bluewater as they promoted Cheyenne Frontier Days across the West especially traveling throughout Colorado.   Shirley Holmes Churchill, Miss Frontier 1979 Shirley has a long-time involvement with Cheyenne Frontier Days.  She began riding on floats and wagons in the parades as a youngster and then horseback sidesaddle.  Shirley was the first Miss Frontier to be presented the beautiful Miss Frontier saddle.  She rode this saddle in every performance for 30 years after serving as Miss Frontier, first as Miss Rodeo Wyoming 1980 and then as a run-out girl and overseeing the timed event cattle and sorting crew.  Shirley is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd R Holmes, Jr.  Shirley was raised on and is now the owner of the 114-year-old 'Centennial' family ranch on Little Bear Route north of Cheyenne.  The ranch was homesteaded in 1910 by her paternal grandparents.  True to the Holmes family's longstanding involvement with Cheyenne Frontier Days, Shirley was the third of four Holmes family Miss Frontiers.  Shirley was inducted into the Cheyenne Frontier Days Hall of Fame in 2009.  She most recently volunteers time to the Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum.  She and husband, Brad, continue the ranching traditions and legacy today on their ranches in Colorado and Wyoming.  Shirley has said; "I don't know if I am a part of Cheyenne Frontier Days or if Cheyenne Frontier Days is a part of me".   Rylee Anderson , Miss Frontier 2017  Rylee Anderson was born and raised in Burns, Wyoming and is a graduate of the University of Wyoming where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Communications. Rylee was selected to become Lady in Waiting for Cheyenne Frontier Days in August of 2015 and went on to serve as Miss Frontier in 2017. She feels so fortunate to have been able to serve her year as Miss Frontier alongside her best friend, Emily Cameron, who was her Lady in Waiting. Rylee made the move to Phoenix, Arizona where she works for Wallick & Volk, Inc as a licensed Mortgage Advisor almost three years ago. She splits her time nearly in half, traveling back and forth from Arizona to Wyoming. She's looking forward to spending a great deal of her summer in Cheyenne and is excited for all things Cheyenne Frontier Days.  Cheyenne Frontier Days As always leave a review if you enjoyed these stories and follow us on Instagram or visit the webpage of the Wyoming Humanities! When he got out of medical school Dr. Jian Guan wanted to do pediatric neurosurgery, and he found a top-flight residency at the University of Utah. While there, though, his career took a turn, thanks to the Cheyenne Frontier Days, the world's largest outdoor rodeo. Cheyenne is a small city, and Salt Lake City is the nearest center of excellence for spine surgery, so every summer, Dr. Guan, sadly, would see a surge in back injuries from rodeo accidents. He became interested in helping patients recover with the least invasive procedures possible. Historically, surgeons have been too quick to fuse patients' vertebra, Dr. Guan says. It's a major operation, and it's not always necessary. Treating so many rodeo patients, Dr. Guan learned when surgery was necessary and when it wasn't. Eager to hone his skills, Dr. Guan completed a fellowship in complex neurosurgical spinal surgery at the renowned Lahey Clinic in Massachusetts. Meg Williams is a guitarist, songwriter, and singer based out of Nashville, TN. Meg has been busy performing all around Nashville at respected Writer's Nights and Songwriter Showcases, professional blues jams, and numerous venues with both her band and as a solo/duo act - you can find her on a stage nearly every single night. After living in Nashville for only a few months, she has already been the Featured Artist at songwriter showcases, shared the stage with many established songwriters, and competed in the 2016 Nashville Blues Challenge. She has additionally performed in Memphis during the International Blues Challenge week, toured southern California twice, performed at the Summer NAMM showcase in Nashville, toured to Wyoming for Cheyenne Frontier Days at the end of July, and just performed on WDVX's Blue Plate Special in Knoxville, TN. Often compared to Susan Tedeschi and Bonnie Raitt, Meg's guitar playing has captured the attention of listeners throughout all of Nashville and increasingly the US. Prior to moving to Nashville, she performed all around the Greater Rochester area, the Finger Lakes Region, and throughout western New York, in popular venues and festivals, including; the Park Ave Festival, Fairport Canal Days, Canandaigua Art and Music Festival, and main stage at the Rochester Fringe Festival. In additional to playing with the full band, Meg has been featured at many singer-songwriter showcases, as both a performer and a judge. She was a guest several times on the “Sunday Night Shakedown” 98.9 “The Buzz” in Rochester, as well as WAYO 104.3FM. She has been featured in the CITY Newspaper, with an article written by the popular music journalist, Frank de Blase. Meg's debut, full length album, ‘Troubles to the Wind,” was released in May 2014, featuring all of Meg's original music. It can be found on iTunes, Amazon, CDbaby, Google Play, Spotify, and can be requested on 98.9 “The Buzz.” Meg Williams Band released their EP “For Now” in October 2015. Currently, Meg is recording her newest blues-rock EP of original music in East Nashville, due to be released later this Summer.

Whether you ask One Stop Country, Queens of Country, Country Perspective, or any of the numerous reviewers, newspapers, and blogs she has spoken with, there's one thing they can all agreeon -- Kristi Hoopes has the "tried and true music that country radio needs."With seven years, 30+ awards, and two guitars under her belt, four-time “Songwriter of the Year,” five-time “New Country Female Entertainer of the Year,” and Nashville recording artist Kristi is creating the country music of tomorrow, today. This past summer, Kristi's first album began to take shape within the iconic walls of RCA Studio A (Grand Victor Sound) in Nashville, Tennessee after winning Lyricord's first songwriting contest. While the album is still a work in progress, her debut single, "At Least It's Something" has been released and is currently available for purchase on iTunes and 30+ online music outlets. In June 2015, Kristi released her latest single "In My Own Sweet Time" while in Nashville for the 2015 CMA Music Festival.Born on Valentine's Day, this Colorado girl found her love for the stage at the age of 2, entertaining her family on top of the family room coffee table. Her passion for performing flourished during her 3rd grade talent show while singing Loretta Lynn's version of Nancy Sinatra's, “These Boots Are Made For Walking.”That same year, Kristi was recruited by a musical theater troupe, touring nationally and internationally until the group disbanded in 2009. But in the back of her mind, she felt like there was a piece of her that was missing, and it was in the hand-written lyrics and chord charts scattered about Kristi's bedroom floor that the piece was found -- country music. With a pocket full of those original songs and guitar in hand, Kristi began competing with the CCMA's (Colorado Country Music Association). Kristi's consecutive wins in 2009 and the years to follow led her to compete in Tennessee and win the international title of Female Entertainer of the Year from NACMAI (North American Country Music Association International) in 2010 and Songwriter of the Year in 2011.This past summer, Kristi took home a first place win at the Country Showdown (formerly known as the Texaco Country Showdown) for AM 1340 KVRH, and was one of only five contestants to represent the state of Colorado at Copper Mountain on the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band stage. From county fairs to coffee shoppes to haunted Old West hotels, she quickly becomes a fan favorite and has left her eclectic country footprint at iconic venues like Cheyenne Frontier Days, the Colorado State Fair, and the National Western Stock Show. Kristi has been both a headliner and an opening act for well-known Colorado bands like the Blue Canyon Boys, Fireweed, and Barry Ward. She has found herself playing on the same stages as national acts like Kenny Rogers and Wynonna Judd & The Big Noise, thus proving to be an accomplished and dynamic artist. When she's not tearin' up a stage or penning a new song, she volunteers her time and talents at charity events and involves herself in local theater productions both on stage and behind the scenes. Her rigorous AP academic schedule leaves her with little free time, but she makes use of what she gets by riding horses, camping, writing poetry, and hanging out with her friends.Kristi Hoopes may be a small-town girl, but her voice promises to take her fans on a Mile Hi ride. "I am so thankful to have as many fans behind me as I do. This is a journey and I want my them to be with me every step of the way, wherever the road leads."

Ned joins Country Music Made Me to discuss the importance of a strong work ethic passed down from his Dad and Grandpa growing up on a ranch in Kaycee, Wyoming, how important the support of his Mom was and continues to be within his musical journey, and why he was drawn to the drums at a young age. Ned and Brendan talk about his first band "Cow Town" in Junior High, how joining his Dad, Chris LeDoux, in his band the Western Underground in his late teens helped him become a professional drummer, and how his career evolved following the passing of his Dad in 2005, taking him from behind the drum kit to in-front of the microphone. Ned explains what it was like the first time he sang in-front of an audience, how he began songwriting thanks to his Dad's producer, Mac McAnally, and some unfinished songs, and how that has led to a successful career that includes 3 full length albums. Finally, Ned talks about debuting his new music at the Grand Ole Opry, what it was like to perform with Garth Brooks at Cheyenne Frontier Days in 2021 in honor of his late father, and he shares stories from his new album "Buckskin".
