Just as your OB or midwife, doula, pelvic floor PT or other birth support team members will ask questions in their exams, the questions they ask serve a specific purpose and role.  In today's episode, Dr. Shannon outlines some of the questions she asks during her prenatal chiropractic exam.  Now, not all chiropractors are going to ask the same questions, in the same order or same manner, and not all chiropractors practice the same techniques, but having some insight into the types of questions asked during the exam, and the why behind them can give insight into what to expect with care.  She goes over 7 main questions that she asks all prenatal patients, and although those questions and the answers provided can lead to more questions, this a good starting point for understanding chiropractic care.  Then she discusses several other questions she asks all patients during their exam.  What does your sports history and job duties, daily tasks, and diet have to do with your prenatal chiropractic care…….a lot!  This podcast was created from a desire to share conversations and interviews about topics from pregnancy and birth to motherhood and the importance of a healthy body and mind through it all.  Our goal is to bring you fun, interesting, and helpful conversations that excite you and make you want to learn more.  We hope what we share will make an impact and help someone else along their journey.  We believe that when you are aligned in body, mind, and your intuition, you can conquer anything!  If you like what you are hearing and you don't want to miss our newest episodes, be sure and tap subscribe. Dr. Shannon and Doula Rachael talk a lot about creating your birth support team and finding those team members who listen to you, support you, respect you and encourage you to be the decision maker when it comes to your birth.  The same goes for who to invite into your birth space. Why does this matter?  Birth flows when we feel safe, comfortable, and private and it slows when we feel stressed, fearful, and exposed. In this episode, they discuss 6 key questions to ask yourself when deciding who to allow or not allow into this sacred space.  Because it's not only how we give birth that matters, but how we feel about the birth experience that matters as well, and who is invited into that birth space can impact our emotions surrounding birth.  This podcast was created from a desire to share conversations and interviews about topics from pregnancy and birth to motherhood and the importance of a healthy body and mind through it all.  Our goal is to bring you fun, interesting, and helpful conversations that excite you and make you want to learn more.We hope what we share will make an impact and help someone else along their journey. We believe that when you are aligned in body, mind, and your intuition, you can conquer anything! If you like what you are hearing and you don't want to miss our newest episodes, be sure and tap subscribe. In order to feel more at ease, confident, and comfortable in the final weeks of pregnancy, it takes significant and intentional effort and preparation during pregnancy. In this episode, Dr. Shannon and Doula Rachael share tips for preparing your mind, body, and heart for navigating the final weeks of pregnancy so that labor can begin and unfold as it should and you can feel less stress, fear, and doubt during this time. They share information about due dates and how you can focus on the due month instead of the due date. They also talk about ways you can prepare your body for labor, signs of labor, what to do if you experience prodromal labor, benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy and early labor, and how to prepare your mind and heart for those final weeks of pregnancy. There is no 1-way to get labor started so we focus on all the other ways you can prepare yourself for the final weeks of pregnancy so that you can be more comfortable and feel confident in yourself, your baby, and the normal process of labor and birth. Approaching labor in this way can help avoid an unnecessary induction which can improve overall outcomes and help you have a more positive birthing experience.  Resources:Spinning Babies - Daily ActivitiesThe Guide by Ann Marie Gilligan This podcast was created from a desire to share conversations and interviews about topics from pregnancy and birth to motherhood and the importance of a healthy body and mind through it all. In this episode, Dr. Shannon and Doula Rachael discuss tips for ways to best support someone who just gave birth. This is great for the partner or spouse as well as for close family and friends…anyone providing support to a new mother. The goal is to provide practical and actionable tips for supporting new moms in a meaningful and beneficial way.  Family and friends usually have good intentions with wanting to help but they may not know exactly what the birthing person needs. As the birthing person, it is helpful if you can know ways to ask for help and if you are the non-birthing person, pick a few of these tips that align with you and do those things. With authentic and meaningful support, new mothers have a greater chance to focus on rest, healing, nourishing herself and her baby.  This kind of support has the potential to provide benefits for months and even years to come. One of Dr. Shannon's patients joins us on the show today to share her birth story.  Each birth is so unique, there is beauty in sharing these stories, and I'm so thankful for Sarah sharing her story.  Because remember, when we talk about birth, not only is a baby born, but so is a mother!  She created a pretty unique birth support team which included a midwifery practice out of a hospital, a chiropractor, a perinatal therapist, and her husband.  There are so many takeaways from her story, and I think a lot of moms will identify with what she shares.  From realizing that she needed mental health resources during her pregnancy as well as during her postpartum time period to devouring all the childbirth education she could before birth, Sarah's story doesn't stop there.  She shares the pain management techniques she used during birth, and answers the question from her midwife to her husband, “how involved do you want to be in the birth?”.  Hearing her describe how the birth unfolded will bring a smile to your face.  However, Sarah developed postpartum preeclampsia 1 week postpartum, and because she listened to her body, trusted her instincts, and sought emergency help, she was able to continue navigating her postpartum and motherhood journey safely.  Resources mentioned in the show:Mommy Labor NursePostpartum preeclampsia instagram post Evidence Based Birth podcast   Perinatal Therapist - Ashley Lingerfelt This podcast was created from a desire to share conversations and interviews about topics from pregnancy and birth to motherhood and the importance of a healthy body and mind through it all.
