Dr. Tony Ebel explores the relationship between the nervous system and gut health, particularly in children with neurodevelopmental challenges like autism and ADHD. He challenges the conventional approach to addressing gut issues primarily through diet, supplements, and detoxification. Based on his clinical observations, Dr. Ebel explains how underlying nervous system dysfunction—specifically vagus nerve impairment and sympathetic dominance—may be the root cause of gut problems. He shares his clinical experiment that demonstrated significant improvements in GI Map testing results through chiropractic adjustments alone, emphasizing that while functional medicine interventions are valuable, they work best when foundational nervous system issues are addressed first.[00:01:00] The Growing Focus on Gut HealthWhy gut health has become a top concern for parents of children with autism and ADHDDr. Tony's study revealing 60% of parents list gut health improvement among their top goalsThe journey from traditional medicine to functional/integrative approaches[00:06:00] The Incomplete Gut-Brain ConnectionThe gut-immune system connection (60-80% of immune system in gut)The gut-brain connection widely discussed in functional medicineWhy this is an incomplete picture: the nervous system's overarching role[00:08:00] Dr. Tony's Journey and Clinical ObservationsHis background in chiropractic and exploration of biomedical approachesBuilding an integrated practice and running GI mapping testsPattern recognition between case histories, nervous system scans, and gut issues[00:17:00] The Clinical Study: Nervous System First ApproachTesting if chiropractic care alone could improve gut health without diet changes or supplementsResults: 80-85% of cases showed significant improvement in GI Map testing[00:20:00] The Vagus Nerve as the Gut-Brain Superhighway80% of vagus nerve fibers go from gut to brainHow sympathetic dominance affects gut functionThe cascade of gut issues that stem from nervous system dysfunction[00:22:00] Four Primary Gut Functions Controlled by the Nervous SystemMotility: Movement necessary for detoxificationAbsorption: Recognition and intake of nutrientsAssimilation: Direction of nutrients to where they're neededElimination: Removal of toxins and waste[00:27:00] Real Results and the Integrated ApproachThe three essential health markers: improved movement, pooping, and sleepingCase examples of healing through nervous system restorationWhy the right sequence matters: nervous system first, then supplements and functional medicine-- DETAILS & REGISTRATION FOR THE FREE MAY AUTISM SUMMIT Follow us on Socials: Instagram: @pxdocs Facebook: Dr. Tony Ebel & The PX Docs Network Youtube: The PX Docs For more information, visit PXDocs.com to read informative articles about the power of Neurologically-Focused Chiropractic Care. Resources for Emotional Healing: Episode 79Resource for Dental/Airway challenges: Episode 71Podcast dedicated to addressing mold: Never Been SickerIn this episode of the "Ask Dr. Tony" series, Dr. Tony Ebel addresses the question of whether there are times when nervous system work should not be the first priority in healing. While he typically advocates for starting with nervous system regulation through chiropractic care before moving to detoxification and other therapies, he identifies three significant exceptions: mold exposure, family emotional stress, and dental/airway issues. These environmental factors can create constant stress on a child's body, preventing nervous system healing despite proper chiropractic care. Dr. Tony explains how these issues work as continuous stressors that exhaust the nervous system and require specific interventions before chiropractic care can be fully effective.[00:05:00] Foundational ConceptsDr. Bruce Lipton's quote: "The function of the nervous system is to perceive the environment and coordinate the behavior of all other cells"The "inside-out" healing approach vs. pharmaceutical/symptom-based approachesHealth as a balance between internal regulation and environmental factors[00:10:00] First Exception: Mold ExposureHow mold creates a constant 24/7/365 burden on the immune and nervous systemsSigns that mold might be an issue (persistent respiratory problems despite treatment)Why mold must be addressed before nervous system work can be effective[00:19:00] Second Exception: Family Emotional StressHow stress and emotional trauma within the family affect a child's healingThe importance of treating parents' nervous systems for co-regulationPersonal examples from Dr. Tony's experiences with his own children's health challenges[00:23:00] Third Exception: Dental Infections and Airway IssuesHow dental problems and airway dysfunction create continuous nervous system stressThe connection between oral health and vagus nerve functionWhy these issues can block progress despite proper chiropractic care[00:29:00] Identifying Issues and SolutionsUsing INSiGHT Scans to measure nervous system function and identify non-responsive casesThe "three scans" rule for determining when to look for other underlying issuesImportance of proper referrals and comprehensive care approaches-- DETAILS & REGISTRATION FOR THE FREE MAY AUTISM SUMMIT Follow us on Socials: Instagram: @pxdocs Facebook: Dr. Tony Ebel & The PX Docs Network Youtube: The PX Docs For more information, visit PXDocs.com to read informative articles about the power of Neurologically-Focused Chiropractic Care. Tips for baby's brain development even before birth by engaging in movement The importance of faith and intention in protecting and guiding children "We have so much to do with their brain development in the environment that we give them, in the food that we give them." "Our movement is huge, and the vestibular system actually starts developing in utero. So the more that we move, the more we increase blood flow to not only our brains but our babies' brains." In this episode, Dr. Tony Ebel dives deep into the topic of autism, drawing on his extensive expertise studying it for over 15 years. He explains how the prevalence of autism has increased dramatically, from 1 in 3,500 to now 1 in 36 children. Dr. Tony emphasizes that while genetics play a role, autism is not genetically predetermined. Rather, it results from a "perfect storm" of stressors experienced early in development. He outlines the "three Ts" contributing to autism: toxins, traumas, and thoughts. This includes physical toxins and traumas like birth interventions, as well as emotional stress and anxiety during pregnancy. The speaker stresses the importance of identifying and addressing these root causes developmentally, in the order they occurred.A major focus is on birth trauma causing injury to the vagus nerve, which regulates inflammation and links the brain to every organ system. Dr. Tony shares research on critical developmental windows where the vagus nerve and nervous system maturation can be impacted. When overwhelmed, the nervous system gets stuck in chronic stress mode (“sympathetic dominance”), leading to subluxation, developmental delays, and exhaustion.Dr. Tony concludes that Neurologically-Focused Chiropractic adjustments to restore a balanced nervous system are often the missing element in caring for a child with autism. He advocates a whole-body approach while addressing root causes in the proper developmental sequence. The takeaway is that a child reaching their full potential is possible when the underlying neurological dysfunction is corrected.Instagram: @pxdocsFacebook: Dr. Tony Ebel & The PX Docs NetworkYoutube: The PX DocsLinksFor more information, visit PXDocs.com to read our “What is Autism?” article, as well as other informative articles about the power of Neurologically-Focused Chiropractic Care.To attend the next live Perfect Storm Webinar: www.thepxdocs.comFind a PX Doc Office near me: PX DOCS DirectorySubscribe, share, and stay tuned for more incredible episodes unpacking the power of Nervous System focused care for children! As a seasoned birth Doula, I find amusement in the familiar expressions on new moms' faces when I suggest considering a pediatric chiropractic evaluation for their newborns. The unfamiliarity creates an expression of confusion or unsureness, which is precisely why I've curated today's podcast. Reflecting on my experience as a new mom 15 years ago, I was oblivious to the profound impact chiropractic care could have on infants and children. Its capacity to regulate the nervous system, aid in bowel regulation, potentially influence sleeping patterns, enhance digestion, and facilitate easier nursing was mind blowing. Little did I know that so much of the stress on new mothers could potentially be alleviated by a simple visit to a chiropractor. The birthing process itself serves as a significant stressor, potentially leading to misalignments that might result in a fussier baby than anticipated. As children grow and encounter the inevitable bumps and falls, their developing bodies may need occasional adjustments. I am thrilled to introduce Dr. Tim Stein from Straight Ahead Chiropractic, a distinguished local chiropractor here in Southern California, whose practice is making a profound impact. Tune in and stand corrected on any misinformation you may have, while learning the actual benefits chiropractic care can offer your newborn or child. And definitely don't forget to share this with a new mom! In a recent episode, we touched upon the foundational steps of building a thriving community around your chiropractic practice. The essence? It starts with a clear mission and vision. Today, we're honoured to have Dr Tony Ebel with us, delving deeper into the intricacies of creating a resonant vision, mission, and the pivotal role of core values. Dr Ebel shares invaluable insights from the 1000's of chiropractors he's worked with, emphasising the significance of keeping the vision and mission at the forefront of team operations. A common misconception among chiropractors, especially those new in practice or facing challenges, is viewing the development of a vision and mission as a 'luxury' or a future endeavour. However, as Dr Ebel points out, these foundational elements can be the very catalysts that drive practice success. Whether you're just starting out, facing hurdles, or have been in the field for decades, this episode offers a fresh perspective on the power of purpose-driven chiropractic practice. Remember, it's "Not just about marketing, it's about making a difference". Thanks for all you do. Keep saving lives! Tony's amazing wife Kristina keeps his craziness in check, three incredibly beautiful and gifted daughters Addison, Alaina, and Emilia, and an amazing little boy Oliver who himself went through “the perfect storm” spending 6 weeks in the NICU with a very grave prognosis of seizures and severe neurological damage and delays, only to come through that with zero seizures or developmental delays thanks to the early application of Pediatric Chiropractic.
