This episode is a real treat! Today, Karen is joined by both husband and wife, Harif & Jennifer Hazera. This beautiful couple ran into Karen at a Tony Robbins event where they were able to share their beautiful home birth story and thank Karen for all her help. Jennifer was a graduate of the Pain Free Birth Course and it didn't come very naturally ⏤ no pun intended. After experiencing a horribly traumatic birth with their first son in the hospital, Harif and Jennifer eventually came to the decision to have their second son in the comfort of their own home. Once a thought that Jennifer scoffed at turned into the most redemptive, God-ordained moment ever. Tune in to this episode to hear the stark difference between their two birth experiences and how fathers are dismissed throughout and left with trauma after the birth experience. EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS: The unnecessary epidural, pitocin, and all the interventions at the hospital for the birth of their first son despite progressing very well & naturally A father's take on birth & feeling dismissed throughout the whole process Father's dismissing the trauma they carried through labor, birth, and the postpartum journey Dreaming up their ideal birth & living it out in the comfort of their home for the birth of their second son MORE ABOUT THE HAZERA'S: Harif and Jennifer are happily married and work together as entrepreneurs in the real estate space. Once they got pregnant with their first baby, they didn't question giving birth in a hospital, that is until there were too many disturbances and interventions that ruined the sacred experience they thought they were going to have by bringing their first son Leo into the world. Fast forward to getting pregnant with their second son, Max, they knew that it could be better. After getting three obvious signs from God to explore a home birth, Jennifer finally gave in. Little did they know, God would end up offering the most redemptive experience to them by giving birth inside their home in the way they dreamed of. Harif and Jennifer are just like you, they weren't professionals in home birth knowledge but after graduating from the Pain Free Birth Course, they gained the knowledge and empowerment needed to have the most beautiful, sacred, and pain free birth at home. When it comes to birth, what does it mean to “do your homework?” This is a big theme of our conversation with Emily Stanwyck, birth doula, Birthfit trainer and home birth mom of 2. According to Emily, “you can have 2 perfect home births when you do your homework!” We talk about what this means for her not only as a doula but as a mother. Plus details of both of her home births, addressing the fear of the unknown and talking about the really uncomfortable things that can come up around birth and having a “why” around your birth. Things we talk about in this episode: birth partner asking questions and feeling confident in their role, doing your homework in prep for home birth, connection of birth and death, letting go during labor, feeling confident in your body and birth, fetal ejection reflex, having a postpartum plan. Nathan Riley, MD, is a board-certified OB-GYN and fellow of ACOG who left the medical industrial complex due to his disillusionment with the “standard of care” within the conventional maternity care model. This was hard because “going with the flow” of hospital-based practice was providing him with financial security. On the other hand, standing in his truth from having sat with over 1,000 births and connecting with women and their families has provided him a lifestyle more in alignment with fatherhood, deepening his connection with his wife and caring for people in the way that he had anticipated long before stepping into practice. Dr. Riley now focuses his time on upholding the traditional practice of midwifery. He supports midwives as a collaborative physician for midwives of all varieties in over twenty states. He is an advocate for home births and still attends births for those in need. He boasts a c-section rate of

Why home birth? This is a question we ask most guests on the podcast. Today we dive into that with Amelia Page, mama of 6. Today on The Natural Birth Podcast we have Holly. Holly is a mama of four from the UK and she is a veterinarian, a feminist and passionate about women's experiences of birth and motherhood. As a veterinarian, she has seen many mammal births and know that this works best when the mother is undisturbed. It was therefore a completely logical choice for her to have home births. She went on to have all four of her babies at home. They were each amazing, empowering and all different births. Her first was born after only a four-hour long active labour stage, after her midwife claimed she wasn't in enough pain to be in “real” labour. Her second has born in a pitch black room after 90 minutes of her waters breaking and the most intense non stop contractions where Holly booted the midwives out to the kitchen and had her baby on her own. Her third was born with her two sisters in the pool together with Holly ready to meet their baby sister. And her fourth was born in a hurry on the bathroom floor after just seven contractions. Holly's stories are wild and beautiful and another variation of normal. And I love how assertive and full of gumption she is. I hope her stories will inspire you to claim your birth and rite of passage!
Birth Story 8: Ashley's Home Births One of Gina's doula clients, Ashley, will be sharing her two home birth stories. Ashley shares how her first birth was a precipitous labor, which left her feeling like she didn't get to enjoy her birth and felt out of control. Due to COVID fears and protocols, Ashley and her husband made a last minute switch to a home birth with Gina and a midwife. Her second birth, was planned to be a home birth from the start, was much slower, and she was able to experience both the prenatal and labor experiences in a new way. Both of her stories she felt were positive experiences, and she shares how she and her husband decided that home birth was the best and safest option for them. Host Jeremy Quinby has a conversation with New York City midwife Tania Zirulnik. Starting in Peru in traditional nursing, Tania found herself in New York navigating the U.S health care system and quickly learned the best care she could offer didn't exist in traditional care. For the past 2 decades she has found ways to care for mothers and families and support their desire to deliver new family member in the comfort of their own homes while respecting the instincts of mothers to labor and birth in time-honored traditions from a number of cultural backgrounds. http://www.lunahomebirth.comhttps://www.highwayto.health
It's time for part 2 with Dr. Nathan Riley, the "Holistic OB/GYN," who helps us explore alternative or "unconventional" approaches to fertility, pregnancy and birth that provide greater autonomy AND support for women, their partners and (future) children. (If you missed our last episode with Dr Riley from 12/2022, you can listen HERE. That episode reviews the flaws of our current medical system - from Dr Riley's perspective as an OB/GYN, having spent years working in hospitals, tending to women's health issues and delivering over 1000 babies). This was hard because “going with the flow” of hospital-based practice was providing him financial security. On the other hand, standing in his truth from having sat with over 1000 births and connecting with women and their families has provided him a lifestyle more in alignment with fatherhood, deepening his connection with his wife, and caring for people in the way that he had anticipated long before stepping into practice. Dr. Riley now focuses his time on upholding the traditional practice of midwifery. He supports midwives as a collaborative physician in over twenty states. He is an advocate for home birth and still attends births for those in need. He boasts a c-section rate of

Steph became friends with Tracey through their mother's group - you may remember her from a previous KICBUMP episode titled "Postpartum, poop and prams" with another friend Emma. In today's episode, Steph wanted to chat to Tracey about something that almost none of us have experienced but so many of us are curious about or at the very least fascinated by - home births. Tracey's story is just incredible. She birthed her 4 month old son Airlie at home (which was planned), but without any midwives present (which was definitely unplanned)! Hear how she educated herself on home births, what she equipped herself with in the lead up, how she attained her midwives and her advice for any mums looking at this as an option for their birth plan. And on another note, we love hearing your 'Toddler Tantrum Tales'! If your toddler has cracked it over something hilarious (like not being allowed to eat the dog food or crying over some broken eggs that they sat on) please send yours in to us @kicpod on Instagram. Voice notes and written messages welcome!
