On this episode of America Uncanceled, Matt Schlapp talks with President of Media Research Center L. Brent Bozell III about the Department of Homeland Security targeting of conservative and Christian organizations. Media Research Center investigated DHS grants to several public organizations through the Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention Program. MRC heard from one recipient, the University of Dayton, that the institution received federal funding to support a seminar that educated on the danger of conservative groups. One graphic used in the seminar organized groups into a pyramid of extremity. The pyramid linked organizations like CPAC, MRC, PragerU, FOX News, The Heritage Foundation, Christian Broadcasting, and more with Nazi and far-right terrorist groups. “I've asked lawyers, ‘Is there possible criminal activity here?', and there absolutely is,” Bozell said. “It's criminal for the government to prevent you from having freedom of speech. That's precisely what's happening.” The program is clearly another instance of the weaponization of the federal government to violate the free speech of certain individuals. Bozell urges conservatives to reach out to take action against this by reaching out to their representatives. He demands that the Republican leadership listen to their concerned constituent and do everything they can to bring about justice and end to the weaponization of government. The podcast and a transcript of the conversation will be available on Wednesday. Last week, conservative talk radio personality Rush Limbaugh died at age 70. Limbaugh’s nationally syndicated political show first hit the airwaves in the late 1980s. He was beloved by many who shared or later adopted his political views and his penchant for conspiracy theories. Many of his critics, however, pointed out his cruel and crass remarks. Limbaugh’s legacy was hardly limited to politics. In a tribute to him, one Christian leader wrote for USA Today, that “ Christian talk programs in particular wouldn't even exist today were it not for Limbaugh's success. Christian radio would still be limited to sermons and songs. But instead, radio stations realized the benefit of capturing even a slice of Limbaugh's audience share and offered new hosts and new voices opportunities to join a new, more democratic discussion of the issues.” Mark Ward Sr. is associate professor of communication at the University of Houston-Victoria in Victoria, Texas. His books include The Electronic Church in the Digital Age, Air of Salvation: The Story of Christian Broadcasting, and The Lord’s Radio: Gospel Music Broadcasting and the Making of Evangelical Culture. Ward joined global media manager Morgan Lee and editorial director Ted Olsen on Quick to Listen to discuss Limbaugh’s impact on Christian radio, how Christian radio differs from Christian TV, and how the medium does or not does not make the message What is Quick to Listen? Audra Haney lives in Knoxville, TN with her husband Cory who is a global missions pastor and her two sassy daughters, Norah (5) and Lydia (2). Audra is also the host and producer of The 5 Minute Mom Podcast, which features short, encouraging monologues and faith-based interviews under 30 minutes. Audra spends the rest of her time changing diapers, wiping noses, and answering 5 year old questions like, “Can I get a unicorn for Christmas?” and “Will there be gluten free donuts in Heaven?” Audra has a huge heart for moms and loves to encourage moms in their journeys. After pursuing a career in broadcast journalism, she realized that her heart wanted to be in the ministry. God was faithful and provided a job with the Christian Broadcasting network. Audra ended up falling in love with podcasting and began The 5 Minute Mom Podcast. An upgrade that Audra has taken is doing things God’s way and trusting that he will provide for her needs. Some non-negotiables for Audra are finding pockets of time to have a quiet time and walking daily with the Lord. Audra wishes that others knew that God wants to speak to you intimately and wants to answer the big questions you have, but also the little questions. Audra is reading Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport and she cannot live without Instacart! Audra also wishes that people knew that as a pastor’s wife she does not always have it together. Social media is something that Audra is currently struggling with. Audras favorite healthy snack is clean juice and favorite indulgence is Almond Joys. President Trump has been known for excluding news organizations who are unfriendly or report "fake news." now the MSM is apparently fighting back. Mika Brzezinski has blackballed White House Presidential Adviser KellyAnne Conway from the MSNBC program "Morning Joe." She and her co-host Joe Scarborough accused her on being "out-of-the-loop." According to the news hosts she tries to book herself on news shows. Clearly this is retaliation for Donald Trump and the new administration picking more conservative news outlets for questions at press conferences. When Donald Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a joint presser, the questions came from Townhall.com and Christian Broadcasting. But that is just the beginning...
What does the future for Christian Broadcasting look like? Leon Shoemann discusses the trials and tribulations Christian broadcasting faces. Be inspired to hear how the Holy Spirit is working in the television industry despite challenges with host Steve Strang.
