It's Tuesday, March 5th, AD 2024. This is The Worldview heard at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus.  (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson Senatorial resolution calls for worldwide religious liberty United States Senators Chris Coons, D-Del., James Lankford, R-Okla., Tim Kaine, D-Va., and Thom Tillis, R-N.C. have introduced a resolution calling for religious freedom around the world. The resolution specifically calls on the Senate to recognize religious freedom as a fundamental right, to condemn the criminalization of religious exercise, and to promote religious freedom as a priority in US foreign policy. Violators called out in the resolution include Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, China, Afghanistan, India, Iran, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Nigeria, North Korea, and Russia among others. Christian Solidarity International reports freeing 1,500 slaves from Islamic bond slavery last year in Sudan. Joel Veldkamp told CBN of a young man who was forced into the Islamic religion while a slave, but, upon his release from slavery, learned about Jesus and became a Christian. Listen to this. VELDCAMP: “I'm thinking of one young man I met named Garong, who was just old enough when he was enslaved to know that he didn't come from a Muslim background, but not old enough to really know anything about Christianity at all. “So, he grew up in slavery and he grew up being forced to learn the Quran and go to Islamic school at night and work during the day. Always being told he was a Muslim, always being forced to pray like a Muslim, but he always resisted and he never accepted that this was his identity. “And then when he came back to South Sudan, he had the chance for the first time to learn what it meant to be a Christian. And he learned the Jesus story and he told me, ‘The Jesus story is way better. Jesus came and He gave Himself for the world. He doesn't force anyone to follow Him. He doesn't force anyone to worship Him. He just loves us.'” Ghana and Uganda passed anti-homosexual laws While most countries in the world are liberalizing laws on homosexuality, a few African nations are doing just the opposite.   Ghana's parliament approved a law last week which would impose a five-year jail sentence for forming or funding groups advocating homosexuality, and a 10-year jail sentence if one is guilty of encouraging children towards homosexuality. Uganda passed a similar bill in 2023. And the Kenyan government is considering a Family Protection Bill as well. 2 Peter 2:6-7 reminds us that God “condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly.  He rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked.” Violent anarchy in Haiti Anarchy rules on the streets of Port Au Prince, Haiti.   Armed groups have torched police stations, and thousands of prisoners have been released from prisons.  CNN reports that 80% of the capital city is now controlled by gangs. Thousands of persons have been kidnapped, and over 300,000 are homeless because of recent unrest.  The U.S. State Department recommends no travel to Haiti due to “kidnapping, crime, civil unrest, and poor health care infrastructure.” Even American missionaries have largely pulled out. Mission Aviation Fellowship halted flights into Haiti last November. Pray for Haiti. Supreme Court unanimously rules states cannot take Trump off ballot Here in America, the U.S. Supreme Court set the Colorado Supreme Court on its heels Monday, ruling unanimously that Donald Trump should, in fact, remain on the ballot for the 2024 presidential elections, reports NBC News. The Colorado court had invoked the 14th Amendment, Section 3 to the U.S. Constitution, ruling that President Donald Trump had engaged in “insurrection or rebellion” against the U.S. Based on this ruling, should Donald Trump gain the Republican nomination, he will appear on ballots in all 50 states this November. Franklin Graham's 10-city evangelistic outreach on southern border Franklin Graham's “Frontera, God Loves You Tour” — has kicked off — as the Christian preacher holds evangelistic meetings in 10 cities along the southern U.S. border. Graham explains the purpose of the tour. GRAHAM: “I'm on the border of Mexico. Millions of people have crossed this border into our country, people from all over the world are looking for a new opportunity at life. We're not coming here for election purposes. We're coming here to present the Gospel. “We started in Brownsville, and we're going to go all the way to Chula Vista, California. People down here are discouraged. I'm talking about the local people, the Texans that live here. It's tough. The Border Patrols are having a tough time. The State of Texas law enforcement are having a tough time and then the people that just live here are overwhelmed. “I believe this is one of the best opportunities for us to be able to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ to these people here on the border.” Remarkably, 7,000 gathered Saturday night at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas to hear the Gospel message. And 1,200 gathered in the smaller town of Presidio, Texas last Friday night. This is the Gospel message that transforms nations, friends.  The Apostle Paul wrote, “For I delivered to you, as of first importance, what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures,  that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.” (1 Corinthians 15:3-4) Gold and Bitcoin have reached new records In economic news, gold has reached new records — scraping $2,120 per ounce on Monday, reports Reuters. Bitcoin also has hit an all-time high of $67,400. Within two years, the unstable crypto currency lost 75% of its value, and then regained the 75%. As well, in 2018, Bitcoin lost 84% of its value, and then gained it back. Americans more concerned with inflation than abortion Super Tuesday is today, reports U.S. News & World Report.  Voters in 15 states are set to cast their ballots in Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, and Virginia.  They'll select the best presidential candidate in their party all the way down to the best state representative. Approaching the United States election, a recent Economist and You Gov poll found that the least important issues for Americans coming to the polls are abortion and the environment. The most important issues are taxes, government spending, inflation, and crime. 7 feet of California snow stopped semi-trucks And finally, over the weekend into Monday, abandoned semi-trucks covered in snow, were lined up on the I-80 freeway in northern California crossing over into Nevada, reports the Daily Caller. The three-day “Snowmageddon” around Lake Tahoe has brought 5-7 feet of snow. Some areas in the highest elevations could receive 10-12 feet by the time the storm is over. It's New Year's day, Monday, January 1st, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Don't abandon Armenian hostages A day after a limited prisoner exchange between Armenia and Azerbaijan took place, a coalition of human rights organizations is urging the United States not to abandon Azerbaijan's remaining Armenian hostages, reports Christian Solidarity International. In a letter to U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Christian Solidarity International, Genocide Watch, Humanitarian Aid Relief Trust, and the Armenian National Committee of America pointed out that dozens more Armenians are still being held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.   These include eight current and former members of the elected government of the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh who were kidnapped during Azerbaijan's attack on Nagorno Karabakh in September, during which the entire Armenian population of the region was expelled.   On December 13th, Azerbaijan released 32 Armenian soldiers. In exchange, Armenia released two Azerbaijani soldiers who had been detained after infiltrating sovereign Armenian territory and killing an Armenian civilian.  Please pray for the peace of God which in Philippians 4:7 is described as “surpassing all understanding.” Maine secretary of state disqualifies Trump from primary ballot Last Thursday, Maine's Democrat Secretary of State Shenna Bellows said former President Trump is disqualified from holding office and thus she has removed him from the state's primary ballot under section 3 of the 14th Amendment over his role in the January 6, 2021 rally at the U.S. Capitol. In her decision, she wrote, “The U.S. Constitution does not tolerate an assault on the foundations of our government, and Section 336 requires me to act in response.” In an interview with CBS News Thursday night, Bellows further explained her reasoning. Listen. BELLOWS: “I'm mindful that no Secretary of State has ever deprived a candidate of ballot access under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. But no presidential candidate has ever engaged in an insurrection. My job was to evaluate the facts presented at the hearing, the evidence that was produced, and the record graded in that proceeding, and to evaluate that and make a ruling, which is what I did.” Bellows added, “Given the compressed timeframe, the novel constitutional questions involved, the importance of this case, and impending ballot preparation deadlines, I will suspend the effect of my decision until the Superior Court rules on any appeal or the time to appeal … has expired.” The state of Colorado has also removed Donald Trump from the presidential ballot as well. Biden strategy: Distract America from economy, claim Trump threatens democracy In an internal election memo released Thursday, Biden's campaign manager, Julie Chavez Rodriguez, said, “We are treating this election like it will determine the fate of American democracy – because it will,” reports Bloomberg. She also said, “The threat Donald Trump posed in 2020 to American democracy has only grown more dire since then. He is running a campaign on revenge and retribution – and at the expense of Americans' freedoms.” Not surprisingly, the Biden campaign seeks to de-emphasize the economic catastrophe of his first term during which prices have increased cumulatively by 17.4 percent. Instead, they are convinced that the winning political strategy is to put democracy itself at the center of Biden's re-election argument. Right now, in the RealClearPolitics average of eight presidential polls, Trump is beating Biden 46.8% to 45.5%. COVID mask mandates return to hospitals in four states and D.C. Hospitals across the U.S. are reinstating COVID-19 mask mandates as the JN.1 variant becomes the dominant strain spreading throughout the country, reports Newsweek. Hospitals in California, Illinois, Massachusetts, New York and Washington D.C. have all brought back divisive rules mandating masks for selected people in medical settings. The Centers for Disease Prevention and Control has recorded a 10.4 percent increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations across America in the week leading up to December 16.  Additionally, there has been an increase of 3.4 percent in deaths related to the coronavirus in the same period. Mailman rescues toddler And finally, a Massachusetts mailman, named David Moulton, delivered more than his routine batch of letters. For the first time in eight years of walking his route, he delivered a 3-year-old toddler to safety, reports CBS News. MOULTON: “They say the ways of God are mysterious you know. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time.” The boy had managed to somehow leave Salem Community Day Care in Salem, Massachusetts.  MOULTON:  “He ran past me this way for us to the park. I thought he was running to play with kids or something like that. And then all of a sudden, I saw him zip by me again, and I'm like, ‘He's headed to a busy street.'” Unbelievably, the toddler was walking the sidewalks and streets, in the cold, for nearly 30 minutes.   MOULTON: “He's got no shoes and no jacket on. This isn't right. I'm wearing four layers of clothes. He was shaking. He was shivering. He was cold.” Moulton took action. MOULTON: “I have children of my own. I can't just let him head to the street, stand there, and do nothing. I just scooped him up before he got into the street over there.” The postman told reporters that the toddler was about to cross Congress Street, a very busy thoroughfare. MOULTON: “I'm very glad that it ended well. It could have been real bad.” After rescuing him, Moulton called 9-1-1. Thankfully, the medical personnel who arrived determined the boy was just fine. In Matthew 10:29-31, Jesus said a sparrow “does will not fall to the ground outside your Father's care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” The police have referred the case to the District Attorney's Office in Massachusetts and the Department of Children and Families which are investigating Salem Community Day Care. In this eye-opening episode, we sit down with Joel Veldkamp, head of international communications at Christian Solidarity International, to discuss the ongoing crisis facing Armenian Christians in Nagorno-Karabakh. Joel brings his expertise to shed light on the historical, political, and spiritual dimensions of this crisis, urging the global Christian community to stand in solidarity with their persecuted brothers and sisters. In the wake of the blockade's end, the situation has reached a critical point. With all but 50 Christians remaining in Nagorno-Karabakh, the rest have been exiled, leaving a once-thriving community nearly erased. Joel provides an updated look at the humanitarian aftermath, including the dire circumstances facing those who have been displaced. He also revisits the political landscape, examining how the actions of Azerbaijan and its allies have led to this near-elimination of the Armenian Christian community. The episode delves into the role that the U.S. and the global community can still play in this crisis, especially in light of these devastating developments. Joel emphasizes the ever-urgent need for spiritual, material, and political solidarity with the few remaining and the many exiled Armenian Christians. Finally, we discuss how Christians abroad can help—and why we as evangelicals must recognize that we belong to a global family. “One of the oldest Christian communities in the world is being destroyed.” It's hard to imagine this dreadful truth unfolding in the 21st century, yet this is the situation happening right now in Nagorno-Karabakh, the small, landlocked region between Azerbaijan and Armenia.“We are witnessing, in real time, the ethnic cleansing of Nagorno Karabakh by the dictatorship of Azerbaijan and its partners,” Joel Veldkamp, head of international communications at persecution watchdog Christian Solidarity International, told me this week.
