In this episode, we sit down with Erica Rhodes to discuss the experiences that led her into comedy, including how a failed audition unexpectedly pushed her toward performing at her first open mic. She shares how she displayed natural comic timing from a young age and how those early experiences helped shape her path as a comedian. We talk about the impact of her popular Don't Tell Comedy sets and how opportunities like those can help comedians reach new audiences and grow their careers. Erica also shares insights into the evolving challenge of stand-up, explaining how “killing” on stage can feel inconsistent as your standards and expectations rise over time. The conversation dives deep into the realities of being a comedian and staying true to your voice while building a lasting career in comedy.

What better way to celebrate one of the biggest crossovers between DC and Marvel in years than to crossover with another podcast? I know, right? In a series of two episodes, Raging Bullets and Comic Timing are teaming together to take on the one-shot Superman and Spider-Man issues! First up is Superman/Spider-Man, published by DC, with a main story by Mark Waid and Jorge Jiménez. Sean Whelan joins Brent, Raph and Ian to break down each story within the issue itself, as well as the history behind this event, what type of team-ups we'd like to see down the road, whether we prefer "themed" crossover issues over more random crossovers, and much more! You can support future releases of Comic Timing and get in on the occasional early releases of the show at http://www.patreon.com/ComicTiming. Space. The final frontier. These are the voyages of…Comic Timing. And boy oh boy, what a voyage this one is. Ian goes Star Trekkin’ with his two favorite allies, Kris and Raph, as they’re joined by current writer of the Star Trek: Lower Decks comic for IDW and lifelong Trekkie, Tim Sheridan! The crew go into their shared Trek histories, talk about where the franchise has gone over the years and how Trek continues to reinvent itself, what makes Star Trek unique in its personality and quality, how Deep Space Nine is all about family, some amazing stories from Tim in and around the industry over the years, and so much more. The group then discuss the first three episodes of the latest series to launch, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, along with the most recent season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, lots of Lower Decks (both the comics and the animated series), and so much more! Be sure to check out Tim’s Lower Decks comics if you haven’t already done so; issue 16 goes on sale February 11th at your local comic shop, and the trade collecting his first six issues on the book will be out in April. This episode we travel to our nation's Capital, Washington DC and one of the coolest comic shops Mike's ever experienced, Fantom Comics! Located on the second floor of a beautiful building in the historic Dupont Circle neighborhood in DC, Fantom Comics was everything Mike expected and more! The co-managers, Sarahti and Jacob, were just as charming as the area, and passionate about comics to boot! Their website says it best, that Fantom Comics was established in 2005 with twin goals, to offer a wide selection of comic books and graphic novels to comic book fans, and to introduce this underappreciated yet quintessentially American art form to the public at large. Fantom Comics is an open, inclusive store that welcomes all people, even if you've never read a comic book in your life. So, whether you're a fan who wants to talk comics, a novice who wants to learn comics, or you're just looking for the right gift for the comic book devotee in your life, they are always ready to help. It was a blast to hang out with the fabulously friendly Fantom Comics crew! Then, Mike is joined by comic podcaster extraordinaire, Ian Levenstein! Ian is the host/producer/founder of Comic Timing podcast and was a big part of Comic Geek Speak for years! Find and follow Fantom Comics at https://stores.comichub.com/fantom_comics, as well as on Facebook, YouTube and Instagram. You can contact them at (202) 241-6498, or better yet, visit them at 2010 P St NW, Washington, DC 20036. Be sure to catch Ian and the Comic Timing podcast at comictiming.net. Listen to Comic Timing on your favorite podcast feed and follow them on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and BlueSky. It's a top-notch show with an amazing cast! Connect directly with Ian with a version of i_am_scifi on the socials. Many thanks to Ian for joining me for the great discussion on Blue Period and to Jacob and Sarahti for their great recommendation of Blue Period!
We are back, concluding our epic breakdown of ALL the characters rendered on Scott Koblish’s variant cover to New History of the DC Universe issue 1. Murd and Ian are the crew for this one, beginning with the middle left portion of the cover and making their way right to get through the rest of it all. Any of you DC history buffs, you’re in for some treats! Not only are there plenty of characters you’ve probably never heard of, but there’s also Annie and Tin Tin rip-offs, a few animals, a few talking animals, and versions of characters you’d barely recognize based on what they look like today. History at its finest here! And here is a link to DC’s high resolution version of this cover that we used for the YouTube version of this episode. Welcome to 2026, one and all! And boy oh boy are we starting this one off with a BANG. Gold Team gathers together in the form of Ian, Chris Eberle and Adam Murdough, as we begin our journey into Mark Waid’s New History of the DC Universe! But before we go into the issues themselves, we must first start at the very beginning. In this instance, that means…the cover. That’s right, over the course of this and the next episode, we will be breaking down each and every character included on Scott Koblish’s Cover D Variant for this first issue, focusing on the Golden Age of DC (and subsequently Fawcett, Charlton, Quality, and a few other publishers) Universe. And here is a link to DC’s high resolution version of this cover that we used for the YouTube version of this episode. Prepare yourself for plenty of punny nom de plumes, ridiculous origins, and villains becoming villains so they can murder a dog; okay that was just one of them, but that’s still one too many. Positively Murdoughnian, baby! This episode Mike makes his way from Philadelphia to Lancaster, PA and the appropriately named Comic Store and its owner, Charles Park. Charles is hands down one of the most interesting comic shop owners ever. No exaggeration, as the story he tells will attest. What started out as a Pitstop version of the Roadshow, where there is just a quick recommendation from the owner, turned into hearing a fascinating story from Charles. Charles' knowledge of comics spans decades and there were times Mike almost forgot he was recording for being so wrapped up in the story. The Comic Store is in a cool brick building and is chock full of comics and related goodies. Mike spent a couple of hours there just perusing the shelves and asking Charles questions. Mike is then joined by another longtime podcaster, the illustrious Chris Eberle! Chris was one of the voices on Comic Geek Speak for years, and is steeped in comics knowledge, particularly Marvel comics. As a former comic shop owner and educator, he was great to team up with for the review of Kill or Be Killed! And, as a self-proclaimed follower and fan of the creative team, Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips, he was the perfect cohost for this episode! You can occasionally catch Chris on Ian Levenstein's Comic Timing and Paul Spataro's Back to the Bins podcasts, both of which you can find on all the podcast feeds. Many thanks to Charles for his fantastic story and great recommendation, and a big thanks to Chris Eberle for joining me!
While Ian is visiting Florida, it’s the perfect opportunity for Ian and Brent to record in person!
