Außerdem erklärt unso Madlen Stimming, was hinter dem Projekt "So schmeckt Kulturregion" steckt. C-the Unseen! Dieses Motto wollen wir in dieser Show akustisch vermitteln. Viel Spaß in Chemnitz 2025 - Kulturhauptstadt Europas!

Yes, Chicago was, and still is, a place of high fashion. So much so, that we would modify it to fit our needs. At the time of this release, Chicago is exactly 1 month away from its first fashion week, and the story of Blum's Vogue is a story that must be told! Ever found yourself trading stories of vacation hijinks or pondering the esoteric questions of the cosmos over a plate of fiery ghost pepper fries? We sure have, and that's exactly what we're dishing out in this latest episode. From a turtle claiming our doormat as its own to the ghostly adventures in the Congress Hotel, join us as we recount our spirited explorations and the unexpected discoveries that turned our breaks into unforgettable escapades. We did it guys. We made it to 50! We look good for our age I think? This episode the girls didn't just pick similar topics, they picked similar subjects too! Tanya takes you back to Chicago to the most haunted place in the city, which trust me, that's no easy title to gain in the White City. Bee stays in the Sunshine state to a place shrouded in death and doom. You decide, is it haunted or is the negative energy there just too overwhelming to ignore? Libations are needed for this spooky episode. Website Patreon Instagram Twitter Facebook TikTok YouTube Support the show (https://patreon.com/howawfulpodcast)

On this date in 1920, more than 2,000 women from across the United States, including a delegation from North Dakota, were attending a convention set up through the National American Woman Suffrage Association at the Congress Hotel in Chicago. The weeklong convention was called a celebration of the emancipation of American women. Carrie Chapman Catt, president of the Suffrage Association, stated that this “ratification convention” was “the most momentous of all conventions held in the last fifty-one years.”
In episode thirty-six, Ty tells Whitney about Russian serial killer, Darya Saltykova. Darya was a sadist who enjoyed torturing and killing the serfs who tended her land. After that, Whitney kicks off the paranormal half of the show with an incredible story about the Congress hotel in our hometown, Chicago. The Congress has so many spirits who reside there, that it's hard to imagine how they ever have room for the living. So settle in, turn on the lights, and get ready to take some shots in the dark with us. Cheers!

August 21, 1935 is sometimes referred to as the birthday of Swing. It was on this date that the Benny Goodman orchestra, after traveling across the country, opened their engagement at the Palomar Ballroom in Los Angeles, California. They started the night playing it safe with stock arrangements but when they started playing their special arrangements, the kids went wild. These were the numbers they had been listening to on the Let's Dance radio program. On the show today I have a few of the original recordings from Let's Dance and from the Palomar from the next evening August 22. Also, we will be listening to a whole broadcast from the Goodman orchestra broadcasting from the Congress Hotel in Chicago. Next week I will be playing some recordings by some of the other big bands between the years of 1934 and 1936 when Swing was becoming the popular music of the day. Holy snickerdoodles, fifty episodes! Neither of the Lindsays can believe it, even if they can believe in ghosts and stuff. Anyway, in this episode, the Lindsays talk about an Italian island of human ash and suffering, and a somewhat less hellish (but still plenty haunted) hotel in the heart of Chicago.
On the south edge of Chicago’s Magnificent Mile – Michigan Avenue – sits the historic Congress Hotel. Originally known for its opulence, it hosted national leaders and foreign dignitaries alike. But almost since its doors opened it’s also been known for something more sinister – it’s hauntings. From tales of trapped construction workers, to the elevator shafts that allegedly claimed so many lives, to the shocking number of suicides – the Congress is said to have seen its unfair share of death. Do ghouls now lurk its halls as guests sleep? Time to put our money where our mouth is and see for ourselves. We’ll take this show on the road to see if the Congress is truly haunted or if it’s just another urban legend to help sell ghost hunting kits. We go ghostbustin’ this week on Hysteria 51. Plus, Joe Peck returns to the show and brings us actual holy water from Jerusalem in case things get weird (no luck on the piece of the True Cross), Conspiracy Bot installs blast doors on the studio in an attempt to persuade the fellas to take him on the ghost hunt (would you let him loose in downtown Chicago?), and in an unrelated matter Conspiracy Bot no longer has access to a credit card (it’s related). All of that and more on the podcast that doesn’t stay at haunted hotels often, but when we do, they’re only the nicest haunted hotels – Hysteria 51.
Whether it's g-g-g-ghosts or just regular type, everyone has an opinion on whether or not ghosts or real. In this episode we talk about ghost movies for a little before diving into some awesome Chicago related ghost stories including The Congress Hotel, Showman's Rest, The Tonic Room, and The Ford Theatre. It's also our first episode with an official guest! We are joined by our dear friend Maria who tells us a terrifying story her grandma use to tell her when she was little, it's absolutely delightful. We also talk about the coolest ghost story I've ever heard which we got from friend of the show (and real life), Jeff Heider who use to work at Disney. A Disney ghost story? Say whaaaaat? Make sure to listen!
This week I've gone into my collection to pull out two radio remotes from Benny Goodman and his Orchestra. The first was recorded at the Congress Hotel in Chicago December 23, 1935 and the second was recorded December 22, 1937 at the Madhattan Room of the Hotel Pennsylvania in New York City. We'll get to hear some vocals by Helen Ward plus lots of Goodman clarinet. I don't do much talking which might be a good thing but the announcer does a nice job of calling the tunes. I hope you enjoy this trip back in time to the 1930's and this great set by Benny Goodman. Please visit this podcast at http://bigbandbashfm.blogspot.com

From the arctic clutches of Chicagoland, I deliver to you Podcast 9. All of what you are about to hear was recorded at a party in the Elgin area. Surprisingly, almost all of my contributors and the other party guests live in the same neighborhood...something is going on in that subdivision! I apologize for the quality of the recording, although I was two rooms away, these ladies got pretty rowdy in the background. Here's hoping they invite me over again to get some more ghost stories for the podcasts. There were some serious doozies that I didn't get on the digital recorder. I begin with Sherry and I recounting my haunted birthday misadventures. I had an epic day that included a private Weird and Haunted Tour with Sunny from Weird Chicago Tours. I've told you all before, but I'm going to tell you again. There is no better tour company in Chicago. Not only taking the lead in top quality haunted tours, they also have historical tours and a Red Light District tour. New tours are being added all the time for die-hard fans like me. Weird Chicago Tours pays twice the industry standard, setting the bar higher to employ only the most knowledgeable, engaging and professional tour guides. Sherry, Arra and I stayed overnight at the Congress Hotel on the haunted 12th floor with some strange happenings that even made the Congress concierge uncomfortable! I will try to stay there again in room 441, which is the most haunted room - and no one knows why! The psychic party host, Laura tells stories about her former and current haunted residences. Sherry and Denise chime in with their experiences in Laura's old house. Denise remembers some unexplained events on the day that her mother passed. Then Sonia and her daughter, Anna, share about their haunted house. Stephanie complete's our great story round with fond memories of a ghost from her childhood house, as well as some recent paranormal events in her current home. She also gave me permission to share a couple of awesome ghost photos taken in Jackson Square, Louisiana! TOP TOUR COMPANY IN CHICAGO FOR HAUNTED AND HISTORICAL TOURS http://weirdchicago.com/ I love seeing all the new likes on the Darkness Buried Deep Facebook Fan Page, share the scare! It's so good to hear from my listeners and readers! New blog posts coming soon! Spooky sounds and awesome music used in this month's podcast came from Free-Loops.com, freesound.org and soundbible.com. They are all in the public domain.
