Send us a textHello, passionate cruisers! This is Paul and this week on The Joy of Cruising Podcast, I am delighted to welcome Emma & Jack, creators of the YouTube channel, Live A Little. As frequent listeners know, I enjoy watching cruise YouTube videos and from time to time I get introduced to The Joy of Cruising Podcast guests. That's kind of how I met Emma & Jack. I say kind of because normally I just watch videos and then perhaps transfixed by someones video style, or sense of humor, comprehensiveness of their video. In Live A Little case it was a little different. I was recording an episode with Colleen McDaniel, Editor-in-Chief of Cruise Critic and we got to talking about Explora Journeys, a newcomer in the luxury sector and a big winner in the recent Cruise Critic Awards. By the end of the interview, Colleen had influence me to move a luxury cruise to the top of my bucket list. I searched Explora Journeys and proceed to binge on dozens of YouTube videos and in the process happened upon Live A Little. After binging on Explora Journeys, I binged on Live A Little videos and they have a wonderful cruising life and a fun, informative video style and I am glad they agreed to come on The Joy of Cruising Podcast. The Lindsays are a family of 3 based out of Colorado and created Live A Little during Covid after being able to find many YouTube channels that traveled the way they did. So, they gave it a go on a cruise to Alaska and the rest is history—they caught my eye! Their focus is a lot of content around suite level cruises, but their larger goal is to highlight destinations and the overall experience. Lindsay & Jack note, “We have a passion for exploring this world one adventure at a time. Whether it's cruising the high seas, discovering gems on a road trip, or exploring iconic destinations, our goal is simple: to inspire you to get out and 'live a little' and make the most out of every journey. We don't want to look back on our life and wish we had done something. So we live by the motto just get out and live a little and see this amazing world while you can. We know travel isn't just about crossing places off a list—it's about creating memories, trying new things, and experiencing Relying on ship wifi is slow, unsecure, sometimes not available & at foreign ports travelers don't want to pay their carriers' high fees. In this episode we talk with Lindsay Blair about her journey of infertility and how she is now advocating and helping those who are dealing with similar situations that she went though as she was entering motherhood. Lindsay is currently a mother to two visible children however she has experienced 9 pregnancy losses along her journey of becoming a mother. Early on she had experienced multiple miscarriages which later lead to the removal of her fallopian tubes and needing to begin IVF to later have her twins. We not only discuss Lindsays personal journey but we also dive in on how we can help others struggling with infertility. She explains how it can be overwhelming to know what we want and need in these moments but if we're given options it's sometimes easier to make decisions. An example would be to try asking a mom if she would like take out or a home cooked meal for dinner and then just bringing it over to help them. It's also okay to have silence, we don't need to fill every moment with noise and sometimes all we need is someone to just sit with us. Being there to validate the loss and their motherhood experience can have a huge impact and acknowledging that they are a mom despite their loss can also be very helpful. It's very common for mothers who have experienced some type of loss to experience anxiety in pregnancy due to the previous loss and thoughts of imagining something could happen even after they're born can be seen. Making sure a support system is in place can help in these moments. In the conversation we break down ways to help regulate our emotions and heal from the trauma that may have occurred from loss. She mentions a therapist on instagram, ,who says our issues live in our tissues. And Lindsay mentions that it's important to remind ourselves we are courageous, resilient, and strong. Her past experience and training with supporting survivors of sexual trauma specifically sexual trafficking with a non profit has given her the ability to now help moms. She is certified as birth and bereavement doula as well as a fertility coach and offers both virtual and in person support for other women going through loss and infertility. What does that role do? We weren't too sure ourselves until Lindsay gave us a glimpse of what she does. Listen to how she started out as a staff accountant until becoming an integral part of a large firm and how she was able to go through a midlife crisis in identifying what she really wanted to do with her career. Lindsay also shares her experience on how these big innovative changes happen at a large firm and how being a CPA makes you a “hot thang” that most businesses all over the country would want to work with. 0 Accounting can be sexy to young people 3 Chief Transformation Officer - the strategy behind being innovative, forward-thinking, and actually moving the needle so that we can get traction on all the cool ideas that our team has 4 Lindsays journey from a public accountant to Chief Transformation Officer Shoutout to Sarah Elliot, CPA, PCC, Brian Kush, PCC, CPA 8 What would a job look like for you?... And he said, let's do it! Let's do it at BPM Shoutout to Dan Griffiths 10 I was overwhelmed to think that there was just sort of this written rule about CPAs. You come into the profession, you put your head down, and you do your work. Then you keep doing that until you make partner. It just felt I wasn't that 14 If your foundation is built on time and that billing structure, you can't just build something else on top of that. It's a shaky foundation 16 The real magic in my role is it's really fun to think about the big things Shoutout to Apple 19 What you should care about the most is every client interaction and how to make that better 23 Lindsay's and Jason's POV on how small and large firms adapt and innovate their processes Shoutout to Thompson Reuters, CCH, Workday 27 When you become the big fish in the pond, there is less motivation to innovate 30 Is this due to the general mindset shift of the digital age or people being more open to sharing? Shoutout to Tate Henshaw, CFP 39 What are some of the things that Lindsay's looking forward to changing with her new role? 40 Accounting can be sexy 42 If you were to sell the CPA firm or the CPA profession to your kids, how would you do it? Shoutout to Dave Emmerman 43 You come out of school and you say, I'm a CPA. It's so much fun to throw a party… especially kids parties, but one downside is that it's SO MUCH WORK to set-up, followed by the party- lots of fun but for a relatively short period of time, followed by the clean-up. It's really easy after it's over to feel bummed that it's over or wonder if all of your hard work was worth it! I have 3 hacks for this. 1. Plan so that you ENJOY the party- not work the party- I did a podcast recently on this. 2. Make sure you get all the photos and videos that you want - so the fun memories live on forever. And 3. Maximize your party fun with a little pre-party and/or after-party. It's so easy and literally doubles your fun from just the party- to a whole other experience. And the best part is - you do very little for it. The whole point is to enjoy the pre or post party set-up and enjoy in the party space. Today we're talking all about adding a little party before or after your party so that you have double the fun, without much extra work. -Party planning has to be fun - you MUST enjoy the process!! WAYS TO DO IT!! Pre-parties -plan for food. -have people help you set-up for party - offer food and drinks - they will come. -ask how much to rent bounce house or ball bit for extra time- it's usually not much more. -enjoy the party space and get helping hands in the set-up of it After-parties -great way to be sure all treats get eaten -pancake breakfast next morning -plan for food OR have vendors from main party make extra and pack it up to serve later. -use decor to keep the party going. -have a helper to pickup if your after party is right after. -have people stay later - or come back at night for party 2 (Lindsays fav). -if you have a kid party during the day, invite adults over at night- same party space, double the fun! You literally DOUBLE your FUN with very little cost and effort. This one is a MUST listen and a MUST do. CHEERS!

Chaos erupts on our 70th and first ever four person podcast. Joe hosts Trey and Lindsays sophomore episode as we welcome a newcomer and first ever fourth on the show, Amanda. We have four topics to discuss this week starting with our first experiences with weed, how to know when you're ready to get married, asking the question: is it okay if the girl makes more money in a relationship, and finally who should pay for the first date? It's a long one with the most editing I've ever done. Enjoy, or try to.
We interrupt our normal schedule for this BIRTHDAY edition questionnaire with a lil bit of NEVER HAVE WE EVER!
Jo is a remarkable woman who has led an extraordinary life. Many would see her as being highly privileged but her description and understanding of the pain experienced by little children left in boarding school is painful to hear. She also speaks out about the sexual abuse which took place in Sherborne Prep School, in particular but not only, and how nobody was held to account despite the evidence. "I guess you could describe me as a campaigner for justice for Boarding School CSA Survivors. 2009 to date. Calling for the urgent introduction of Mandatory Reporting of CSA in UK which most of the the rest of the world has had for some time. You can see in Mandate Now https://mandatenow.org.uk/ Australia are setting a great example whilst U.K. drags its heels like a petulant child. Sherborne is an excellent example of how a microcosm society with a Prep and 2 single sex Public Schools effectively covers up CSA (in the case of Lindsays) for over 100 years and it is very like the total abuse of power by Establishment in Jersey. Absolutely horrific! Money and power always prioritised over children's lives forever."
Its an early release this week, which has something or other to do with the news cycle. After a quick intro, at (5:37) we are joined by New York Times Senior Editor Lindsay Crouse, whose article Nike Told Me to Dream Crazy, Until I Wanted a Baby has been the talk of the running community over the last week. At (31:34) we talk about the timing of the article and the release on Mothers Day. At (36:36) we ask if there are other gaps and issues that we should be looking into and at (38:00) we ask about feedback from other athletes. At (40:54) we talk about performance standards within the contracts and why there needs to be a conversation about pregnancy clauses in their contracts. At (44:30) we talk about the follow up article, Nike and pregnancy, your questions answered and whats next with this story. The Lindsays reappear as mysteriously as they disappear, here to talk about hauntings of a tubercular and mountainous nature.
The Lindsays are back to chat about the goddess of fire and the god that likes to eat god-babies.
The Lindsays are doing a final episode about mysterious disappearances, after which that topic will not-so-mysteriously disappear! So this week it's the MV Joyita, Dorothy Arnold, Frederick Valentich, Joan Risch, Ray Gricar, Béla Kiss, the Sodder Children and Louis Le Prince. We'll be back with a new episode next week (unless we mysteriously disappear, which we... probably won't).
Missouri Lindsay reports back re: having watched Train to Busan (watch it, y'all, seriously). Then the Lindsays get down to the business of talking about islands of haunted dolls and why you should NOT go around killing your political rivals.
The Lindsays here to chat you up about lucid dreaming / dream walking and vintage unexplained psychic phenomena.
Holy snickerdoodles, fifty episodes! Neither of the Lindsays can believe it, even if they can believe in ghosts and stuff. Anyway, in this episode, the Lindsays talk about an Italian island of human ash and suffering, and a somewhat less hellish (but still plenty haunted) hotel in the heart of Chicago.
The Lindsays have a nice lengthy chat about the mysterious and somewhat misnamed D. B. Cooper, and the wellspring of conspiracy theories that is MK Ultra.
The Lindsays decided that in order to do justice to the Bell Witch, they needed to double-up on her; also, Chicago Lindsay has an interesting theory as to what her deal was.
The Lindsays talk about cryptids from the depths of the oceans and the depths of Missouri.
The Lindsays are back to haunt your earbuds with random chatter about mysterious places topics: Area 51 and Easter Island!
