THANK YOU for tuning back into this week's episode inspired by Judith Lasater's book, "Living Your Yoga." This week we focus on Chapter 4: Self Judgment. Boy do we do this as moms! Or is it just me? It's never just me I find. I hope you find this week inspirational, awakening, acknowledging and that you finally find some grace for yourself (and others). My favorite sentence in the book is, "Remember, the difficulty might never change, but your attitude and inner dialogue can." -Judith Lasater. Doesn't this just say it all? Here are the instructions to the exercise I mention at the end of the episode. Copy, paste and print these out and work on this every day: 1) Taking your physical limitations and health into account, pick a yoga pose (or challenge, task, goal, passion) that is difficult, if not impossible, for you to do. 2) Practice, or rather attempt to practice, this pose every day for one month. To begin, say silently or out loud, "I am attempting something difficult, and I appreciate myself for trying." 3) Then pay close attention to your internal dialogue as you practice your (fill in the blank). At times, you may even talk yourself through what you're doing out loud. Listen to the instructions you give yourself about the physical and mental aspects of how to do the pose. Whose instructions are they? 4) What do you say to yourself when you succeed? When you fail? When you are somewhere in between? 5) Can you do the (fill in the blank) just to do it? 6) When you are done with the (fill in the blank) say aloud, "I have tried something difficult, and I appreciate myself for trying." -Judith Lasater, "Living Your Yoga", page 36. And remember, "the difficulty might never change, but your attitude and inner dialogue can." -Judith Lasater Perfection is an illusion according to Judith Lasater and I couldn't agree more. And in reality, isn't perfection boring? Tight? Constricting? Motherhood needs more freedom, playfulness, mistakes and grace. Doesn't that sound a whole lot better? Mom Card Drawing of the Week: "Every woman has the right to become herself..." -Ani DiFranco Thank you for listening, sharing and talking about this episode and the podcast. I appreciate you! Ofcourse they are, that's exactly why they are called just that, “bound-tries”: they bind you - and others too - so people know there are limits. Does your home have a front door? Does your shower have partitions to keep the water in? Is your personal handbag under your control? Do you have secret passwords for access to your accounts? Do I still need to convince you boundaries need to exist and to be maintained at all cost!

In the face of stress and anxiety, it is imperative to understand the “fight or flight” versus “rest and digest” sides of the nervous system for optimal health. Our nervous system has two modes of operation, namely, the sympathetic nervous system (SNS), also known as the “fight or flight” mechanism, and the parasympathetic nervous system (PSNS), also referred to as the “rest and digest.” These modes play opposite roles depending on the state we are in. The sympathetic nervous system (SNS) The sympathetic nervous system is responsible for voluntary functions, such as controlling the heart rate, digestion, urination, blood pressure, and sweating. It is part of the autonomic nervous system. The SNS is the “fight or flight” mechanism that helps vertebrates to respond to stressful or dangerous situations. What is the Purpose of SNS? When facing danger or a stressful situation, SNS is activated to ensure control over the “fight or flight" response. This mode is responsible for the following body changes when facing danger or stress. Enlargement of the pupils to enhance vision by allowing more light into the eyes. Increasing the heart rate to ensure adequate oxygen supply to other body parts. Relaxation of the airway muscles in the lungs for optimal oxygen delivery. Reducing the pace of digestion to concentrate the digestive tract's energy on other body parts. Activating the liver energy reserves for quick energy supply. These changes help in circumstances where fast action or thought is required. The SNS helps in improving eyesight, strength, endurance, and reflexes. The system communicates through neurotransmitters such as epinephrine, norepinephrine, and acetylcholine. The Parasympathetic Nervous System The PSNS, or the “rest and digest”, helps relax the body after danger or a stressful situation. It is part of the autonomic nervous system responsible for controlling relaxation. PSNS regulates functions such as metabolism, resting heart rate, and breathing rate. The Role of PSNS in Response to Stress During relaxation, the PSNS is responsible for the following body changes. Constricting pupils to limit the amount of entering the eyes, enhance close-up vision, and trigger tear production. Triggering saliva and mucus production to aid breathing and digestion when the body is in rest mode. Reducing the workload for the lungs by constricting airway muscles during rest. Reducing heart rate. Enhancing digestion rate, diverting energy from other body parts to the digestive tract, and commanding the pancreas to increase the production and supply of insulin. Relaxing relevant muscles to facilitate waste removal. Controlling sexual functions and arousal feelings. The "Fight or Flight" Versus the "Rest and Digest" Side of the Nervous System The contrasts between these two sides of the nervous system include the following. While the SNN, or the “fight or flight” mode, increases alertness, the PSNS, or the “relax and digest" mechanism, relaxes the body. The PSNS regulates the body's activities when calm and feeling safe, while the SNS triggers the body to react when its calmness or safety is threatened. The SNS contains signals that enhance alertness while the PSNS signals return the body to its standard activity level. The SNS acts first to fight or flee, while the PSNS comes later to help the body cool down, relax, rest, and digest. The two modes of the autonomic nervous system play opposite but complementary roles to maintain body balance. You may consult Dr. Jason Jones at our Chiropractic office at Elizabeth city, NC to learn more on the battle between the "fight or flight" and the "rest and digest" side of the nervous system.
The characteristic flushed cheeks and occasional sheen of sweat on someone who's been imbibing certainly suggest that alcohol has an effect on body temperature, but when you drink an alcoholic beverage, does it really warm you up? Alcohol is a vasodilator. It causes your blood vessels to dilate, particularly the capillaries just under the surface of your skin. When you have a drink, the volume of blood brought to the skin's surface increases, making you feel warm. That dilation is why slightly or exceedingly intoxicated people look flushed. This overrides one of your body's defenses against cold temperatures: Constricting your blood vessels, thereby minimizing blood flow to your skin in order to keep your core body temperature up. Someone enjoying a drink in the cold may feel warmer from the extra blood warming his skin, but that blood will rapidly cool thanks to the chill in the air. The warmth caused by blood rushing to the skin will also make him sweat, decreasing his core temperature even further. Compounded with the cognitive effects of alcohol, serious complications can arise. The rapid drop often occurs without the drinker realizing it, because his skin will still feel fairly warm, which makes it doubly dangerous to drink alcohol in extremely cold weather. But, drinking alcohol in chilly weather reduces the body's ability and tendency to shiver, taking away yet another method your body uses to help keep warm when it is cold. 血管舒张剂capillary英[kəˈpɪləri];美[ˈkæpəleri]n.毛细血管complication英[ˌkɒmplɪˈkeɪʃ(ə)n];美[ˌkɑːmplɪˈkeɪʃ(ə)n]n. 并发症

We are constantly making predictions based on our particular set of beliefs. We interpret what we think we see or hear, and then act as though we know what's going to happen. We let those assumptions make us afraid, insecure, or worried as if what we assume is real... But, we never actually know what will unfold in the next moment. We have this moment before us. This here, now. This is what we have - one moment at a time - source by the life force - the magnificent mystery that weaves our creative heart with the heartbeat of the whole living, breathing organism which includes all... ever-creating anew, with every idea and emotion and connection within the whole consciousness and rippling through each and everything - as our shared being. It is Love loving ...In today's episode, we're just talking about how we play psychic with our lives. And how vital it is we practice the simple basics of mindfulness - living the yummy way. The basics are the practice and ultimately, our way of being in the world and our lives. Are we present, aware of what is actually happening in the moment we're living, or are we caught up in a story? The basic practice of presencing ourselves in our being, mindful of the actuality of what's happening now all around us, before us, and within us. Are we mindful when our mind distracts us with shoulds or what-ifs or other predictions? We encounter the moment, which is fresh and alive with possibility, and the mind immediately begins interpreting what it is and what it means through the filter of our particular set of beliefs and fears. Simultaneously, we're having an energetic response inviting us to notice if the story our mind is telling us is actually in line with our true nature and the actuality of what's happening. I call it our yummystat - a signal from our being to pause and presence ourselves. If we're in prediction, we're not in reality. It is a 'no' to what is. That causes tension in our energy field. If we don't directly address and release that tension, we adapt to that tense state. And it starts to seem normal to be a little tense all the time. Pause right now and notice. Are you in resistance or allowance. Are you saying yes to what is? Or are you saying no, I want something else. Thinking or predicting so future or circumstance that you want, accept and say yes, this is fine. That no alters the way we see what's before us. Constricting our vision to our fearful belief system. But yes is simply feeling how you're already here in league with all the elements of the universe which brought this moment to you, so you're open to new possibilities. We can presence ourselves and notice - notice what's happening, both within, the tension and flow, softening and releasing and easing and feeling our being pulse - this is love, peace and flow, which is our joy and happiness.Life is constantly gifting us signals to pause, sink into now and let love and joy reframe the moment for us. It could be a line in an email, a bumpersticker, a song. Most of us have allowed music and song to transport us out of an anxious mental state, suspending time and letting creation have its way with us. In fact, we can use this method deliberately — because we love ourselves...Here are a couple of songs by Jordan Smith which do it for me:Only Love: https://youtu.be/XvltAd3waAcStand in the Light: https://youtu.be/gDrOVOoTjRUWhat's yours?

We’ve all been there when we find ourselves unknowingly driven by fear. For some of us, we start to try to control everything we possibly can, in the hopes that we get to determine the outcome of things… however, more often than not, this is one of the most constricting things we can do.
