Fintan, the musician grew up on a hippie commune. Aisling then speaks to young people on the Rainbow Walkway on Coogee Beach in Sydney about the draw of Australia and their experience of life in Sydney. After hearing about how living so far away from home can be hard for many, she speaks to Central Coast GAA Club and visits 'The Doss House' and 'Frank Macs' where Irish gather in search of that feeling of home. She then makes the trip to Perth to visit her sister Eimear, who has lived there for 13 years and is married with three children. In the second part of this documentary, Aisling hears about some of the more difficult aspects of Australia, which include the experience of regional work and the difficulty of finding work in general. She also hears some stories of reinvention, how some people make the move to earn big bucks, and how people deal with bereavement while living so far away from home.We also get a taste of that lifestyle that people love in Australia, and come along to two of Aisling's favourite activities since arriving in Sydney, swimming and beach yoga."Home or Away - Living the Irish Australian Dream with Aisling Moloney" is presented and produced by Aisling Moloney. "I imagined that the sound of the waves could carry the sound of sea's inhabitants. The beach is then a meeting point, an ecotone between the human and non-human worlds. I used a spectral resonator to carve out notes that became the calls and cries of some imaginary whales, and I improvised with the guitar along with it." Coogee Beach reimagined by Luca Gambirasio.

On April 17, 1935, a fisherman hooked a small shark off Coogee Beach in Australia. Then a 13-foot, or four-meter, tiger shark swallowed the smaller shark, allowing itself to be caught by the hook as well. The fisherman just so happened to own an aquarium and decided the tiger shark would be his new attraction. But the small shark wasn't the only thing the large tiger shark had gobbled up, though. Something the predator ate didn't agree with it and would soon come back up.SOURCESThe Shark Arm Case - By Vince Kelly https://www.vice.com/en/article/qv3eyw/australias-weirdest-unsolved-murder-case-began-with-a-shark-coughing-up-a-human-armhttps://sharkattackfile.net/spreadsheets/pdf_directory/1935.04.25-SharkArmCase.pdfhttps://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/real-life/true-stories/how-severed-arm-regurgitated-by-tiger-shark-led-to-murder-mystery/news-story/183aa1246bdaa589cbc4b28965c04c1a

Sorry for the lateness of this, but you should expect that by now... The Shark Arm Murders refer to a notorious criminal case that took place in Sydney, Australia, in 1935. The case gained significant media attention due to its bizarre and macabre nature. In April 1935, a large tiger shark was caught in the waters near Coogee Beach. When the shark was displayed at the Coogee Aquarium Baths, it vomited out a human arm with a rope tied around its wrist. The arm was promptly identified as belonging to James Smith, a missing ex-boxer and small-time criminal. Amanda Hickie has always been interested in ethical questions - at the age of ten annoying her scripture teacher by asking if it was immoral to lie to a murderer. Despite a passion for writing, she studied Computer Science (but quickly recovered) and Cognitive Science. A change of lifestyle when she and her family moved to Canada resulted in her first novel, AfterZoe. Living down the road from the SARS outbreak also provided the seed for her next novel, An Ordinary Epidemic, released by MidnightSun Publishing in May 2015. The novel was released in the US and UK under the title Before This Is Over. Amanda lives a pleasant stroll from Coogee Beach in Sydney with her two computer oriented sons and husband and two non-computer oriented cats. In our conversation, we talk about her novel Before This Is Over/An Ordinary Epidemic, volunteering with FIRST Robotics Australia, and bookbinding. Listen to Episode 063: If you've been part of my orbit for a little while, you'd maybe know that we as a family have been hunting for our family home. We decided, around 3 years ago to leave Sydney and find a home in the Central Coast. 1.5hrs out of Sydney - super close but much more affordable and close to many incredible beaches, reserves, waterways and national parks. Out priced here in Sydney. My husband dreamed of a home and backyard and my deal breaker is that I must be within 10 minutes drive from the beach. Currently, living in the incredible Coogee Beach, only a 8 minute walk to the beach and shop - having grown up here it felt sacrilegious to raise my children away from the ocean. So it was decided - I would rather leave Sydney for the shores than find a house/home somewhere else in Sydney with traffic and long car ride between us and the ocean. This episode explores the journey we've been on in manifesting and calling in this new home and new chapter of our lives. I promise you, it's been no small feat. Loads of inner work, challenges and plenty of WTAF moment. I've let go, I've controlled, I've fought back, I've come undone a little, I've become apathetic, i've stopped caring, I've fired up. I've discussed this with my guides, with healers and mentors and friends .... like I said, a JOURNEY. But here we are. 6 weeks away from a new adventure. Many questions have come and gone and now I have peace, surrender and excitement pulsing in my veins. Show notes: 1. Enquire about my NEW 90 Minute HEAL Session. In an aquarium at Coogee Beach in 1935, a 4.4 metre tiger shark glided warily past onlookers, freshly caught just one week earlier off the coast of Sydney. To their horror, the shark suddenly vomited up a human arm tattooed with two men boxing, and the ripple effect continues to this day.
Coogee Beach 1935, saw the residents suffering from the effects of the Great Depression. The owner of the local aquarium, along with his son, took it upon themselves to find a way to bring some life back to the area. The 4 meter shark they captured as the new attraction would bring locals swarming but the shark held a secret that it would soon spill. Bodysurfing is one of the oldest water sports where surfers ride waves with just their body. Bodysurfers ride with the wave, on their belly, versus on top of it. Nowadays the sport is quickly gaining popularity with plenty of competitions popping up all across the globe. The most beautiful part is you don't need any special training - anyone can do it! Be warned however, it may make you feel like a kid again. After a bodysurfing injury left Don with multiple surgeries he soon began to focus his energies elsewhere. Don was a professional fire-fighter and an active member of his local Surf Life Saving Club at Coogee Beach, NSW, Australia; the beach was where he spent his youth. He was also a strong swimmer who competed in many different sporting events. In 1983 he won the title of the World Surf Life Saving Body-surfing Champion. Through these endeavors and after several trips to Hawaii in the mid 80’s, while competing regularly in bodysurfing contests, he became interested in water flow and fluid dynamics, thus allowing the DMC Fins idea to take root. Don’s idea was to design and create a type of swim propulsion fin (or flipper) that would revolutionize his chosen sport. The Hydro Finz were born. The design of the fin was unique, as it’s “V Rail" design gave it the edge on the competition and proved functional in wave riding, particularly deep hollow tubes. The V Rail acted like small surfboard fins, only with 8 edges to add traction, instead of 2 to 3 fins found on surfboards. Don travelled extensively to secure distributors for his one and only product and due to its unique patented qualities and performance, DMC gained sales and recognition worldwide. Since then over a million pairs of Hydro fin products have been sold in over 20 countries. DMC now has several different models of fins and offers fins for swimmers of the pool and ocean. Don’s bodysurfing and swimming knowledge combined, plus product innovation, have created a line of products that suit the beginner to the serious aquatic athlete. In recent years Don won another World Championship for Bodysurfing in his 'Masters' age group and qualified as a swim coach. "I don't think you have to be someone who can swim like an olympic swimmer," she said. "You just have to be able to see when the waves are coming, when is the right time to take off, what's the right time to make that commitment and the right time to get out and that's something you can learn with experience and there's lots of people willing to help you learn that." -Meredith Rose, Three time World Bodysurfing Champion FB: @DMCFins | I:#DMCFins | Twitter @DMCFins | YouTube: DMCVids | https://dmcfins.com

The Sydney Symposium At the back of a small room at Coogee Beach, Sydney, I sat watching as a psychologist I had never heard of paced the room gesticulating. His voice was loud. Over six feet tall, his presence was imposing. It was Lee Jussim. He had come to the Sydney Symposium of Social Psychology to talk about left-wing bias in social psychology. Left-wing bias, he said, was undermining his field. Graduate students were entering the field in order to change the world rather than discover truths.1 Because of this, he said, the field was riddled with flaky research and questionable theories. Jussim’s talk began with one of the most egregious examples of bias in recent years. He drew the audience’s attention to the paper: “NASA faked the moon landing – therefore (climate) science is a hoax.” The study was led by Stephan Lewandowsky, and published in Psychological Science in 2013. The paper argued that those who believed that the moon landing was a hoax also believed that climate science was a fraud. And I thought I’d bring the introduction here today, because when we started I had no idea where 180 was going to lead to and what was to follow. And it’s quite a special moment for us, because we’re literally about to launch into the USA. And I never in a million years thought that was going to happen when we started a conversation just over five years ago. So, from probably about the second week of August, you’ll be able to head to 180nutrition.com for you to listen to this in America and our superfoods are going to be available in America. So, that’s really exciting and a really big deal for us. So, if you’re over there, check it out. Anyway, on to today’s guest. Today’s guest is Jon Gabriel and I reckon this is probably the most transformational story I’ve ever heard and one maybe the internet has ever seen. The guy was weighing in at 186 kilos at one stage in his life and he said he had tried every diet under the sun. It wasn’t that he was lazy, he was just struggling; he even went and saw Dr. Atkins at one point and he feared for his health. And if you see him today, ten years on, the guy’s got a six-pack and looks fantastic. I mean it’s incredible. And what made Jon’s story even more exceptionable was that, basically, fate intervened with him one day and he should have been on the flight from Newark to San Francisco back on September 11, 2001, yes the terrorist attacks, and he missed the flight and he should have been on it and he said everything changed from then because he realized he’d been gifted a second chance in life. And he moved himself and his family to Australia. And then the weight just started to fall off. And a big part of that was using visualization techniques and meditation and, I guess, letting go of a lot of self-beliefs. But I guarantee from listening to this episode today, you will be inspired to meditate. You know, if it’s something; like, for me, it’s always been a bit of a task, but I’m fully embracing it at the moment and loving it, only because I’m starting to “get it.” And from this episode, you know, you’re going to be sitting there, getting up an extra hour early in the morning, I promise you. And last, but not least, before we get on to Jon a big thank you for everyone that’s leaving reviews on iTunes. Please let us know if you’re getting something out of this podcast, leave us a review. Tell us a little bit about your story. It’s awesome to hear them. We know these podcasts are making a big difference in people’s lives. And it’s just wonderful to hear it and know that we’re getting our message out to as many people as possible. So, if you get the chance leave us a review. Anyway, let’s go over to Jon Gabriel. This one’s awesome. Jon Gabriel: Great to be here, Guy. Thanks. Guy Lawrence: We actually had James Colquhoun on our podcast recently and for anyone listening to this, he’s the man behind Food Matters and Hungry for Change, the awesome documentaries. And we asked him actually, “Of all the people that you’ve met and interviewed, who’s been some of your most inspiring? And he instantly said, “Jon Gabriel.” Jon Gabriel: Wow. Guy Lawrence: So, we’re very honored to … Jon Gabriel: That’s a huge compliment. Guy Lawrence: Yeah. So, we’re very honored to have you here, mate. Jon Gabriel: Awesome. Guy Lawrence: So, could you, just to kick start the show, I guess, yeah, share a little bit about your amazing story. Your journey from where you started, what you used to do, too. Jon Gabriel: Yeah. Sure. So, I used to be over 400 pounds or 180-some-odd kilos and I was working on Wall Street. I was stressed out. I felt like I was killing myself. I felt like I was on a treadmill that was just going too fast. And I got off of that treadmill and over a two-and-a-half-year period I lost a hundred kilos, or 220 pounds, without restrictive dieting. That is: without forcing myself to eat less or forcefully denying myself and without killing myself with exercise. It was almost as if the weight had just totally melted off of me. And because of the way the weight melted off of me, I knew I had a really powerful message for the world. And I wrote about how I did it in a book called, “The Gabriel Method.” And “The Gabriel Method” touched a chord with a lot of people that had been trying to lose weight by dieting and have not been successful. And the book went on to get translated into 16 languages and is in 60 countries and a bestseller in several languages. And we went on to create this whole process of losing weight by what we call getting the body to want to be thin rather than forcing. And even today, there’s; a lot of the information that we put out is similar to what other people are putting out, at least from a nutritional standpoint. There’s like a convergence going on in terms of: You need to take care of your digestion and you need to nourish your body properly and how healthy fats. . . And all this kind of stuff. But nobody, even today, and this is now ten years down the road, we published The Gabriel Method in 2007, but I lost the weight in 2004. So, it’s been; I’ve been out there now over ten years. I still don’t hear anybody talking about losing weight by getting your body to want to be thin. I hear people talk about speeding up your metabolism and cutting carbs and healing your digestion and reducing stress, but I never, ever, ever, hear anybody talk about getting your body to want to be thin. So, our whole focus is the science and study of getting your body to want to be thin, because as in my case and now thousand of people all over the world, when you get your body to actually want to be thin, you’re not at war anymore. You don’t have to; you don’t need to know how many calories you should have in a day. You don’t need to know whether or not you should eat in the morning or in the afternoon or whether you should intermittent fasting or eat every two hours. You don’t need those rules anymore. Your body does the accounting by itself, because you become, in essence, a naturally thin person. So, that’s what we’re trying to do, is turn people into naturally thin people. Stuart Cooke: How did you arrive at that solution, Jon? Like where was the light bulb moment? Read Full Transcript Here: http://180nutrition.com.au/?p=19503
