This week, motherhood and mental health expert Alyson Hempsey and pelvic floor physical therapist Dr. Marcy Crouch sit down with a very special guest, Cory Ruth, who you may know as @thewomensdietician on Instagram. Cory is a registered dietician and women's health expert who works specifically with women to help them better understand the powerful connection between the female body systems and optimal health. Cory struggled for what seemed like forever with irregular periods, anovulatory cycles, and ridiculous weight gain even though she spent the majority of her time focusing on “healthy eating” and “exercising.” Then, she received her PCOS diagnosis. Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common causes of female infertility, affecting as many of 5 million women world-wide. Since her diagnosis, Cory has dedicated her career to educating and empowering women to take back control of their health, weight, and vitality to finally become the BOSS of their PCOS.If you have PCOS, we would love to hear your story. This week we're diving into a common problem for people with PCOS - weight loss. Many people struggle to lose weight without making their PCOS symptoms worse, and it's one of the most common reasons people want to work with a PCOS dietitian. With PCOS, it's not as easy as calories in/calories out or hopping on the latest diet trend. There are many factors that affect the ability to lose weight with PCOS and each patient has their own set of needs and goals, so it's impossible to offer blanket advice for how to lose weight with PCOS. And, depending on who you follow, you may even wonder if you're wrong to even WANT to lose weight. That's why I wanted to bring in a guest expert who has a whole program built around how EXACTLY to lose weight with PCOS. Meet Cory Ruth, a Registered Dietitian, Nutritionist, and women's health expert. Cory is the founder and principal of The Women's Dietitian and Instagram account @thewomensdietitian, a private practice and digital platform for women seeking nutrition support for hormone balance, PCOS, fertility, and weight management. She specializes in PCOS and nutrition therapy for infertility and assisted reproductive technology. In this episode, we talk about how women with PCOS can ACTUALLY lose weight — without making their PCOS symptoms worse. In this episode, we talk about Cory's experiences as a dietitian with PCOS WHY it's so hard for people with PCOS to lose weight Why keto diets and intermittent fasting don't work for people with PCOS How to have realistic expectations around weight as a woman with PCOS Which practical and sustainable lifestyle changes you can make to lose weight and improve your health Where to find Cory Ruth, MS, RDN: The Women's Dietitian Website: www.thewomensdietitian.com Instagram: @thewomensdietitian Facebook: The Women's Dietitian LinkedIn: The Women's Dietitian
Cory Ruth (aka The Women's Dietitian) grew her audience through Instagram, but once she was about to have her first child, she realized that she needed to diversify her income streams away from just 1:1 work. So she dove into the world of online courses and created a course to help women with PCOS get pregnant. The first launch gave her a taste of what was possible when you leverage your time with scalable online offerings and she never looked back. Cory's story is so incredibly inspiring - especially for all the moms out there. Hope you enjoy this one! Looking for more tips and a community of like-minded peers? Sex drives are such a wonky thing in my opinion. Everything from your menstrual cycle to how much stress you're under can cause a slight change - and a sudden change in your libido could also be a sign of an underlying medical issue in some cases. But what about certain "aphrodisiac" foods? Is that a thing? Do they have anything to do with libido? I brought my girl Cory to the show to tell us more about it. Cory Ruth is a Registered Dietician with a Masters Degree in Nutritional Science. She began her career as a chef in food service and transitioned to working in a Women's Health Clinic with OB/GYNs and loved working with women and endocrinology and that's what led her to starting her own private practice as The Women's Dietician. I ask Cory Ruth: How do we know what diet to do? What are the pro/cons of some of these different “fad” diets? (including Intermittent Fasting, Ketogenic Diet, quitting gluten/dairy) How can we use our diet to help support a healthy menstrual cycle and ovulation? Ovulating is so good for us, how can we help support that happening? For the average female that wants to take better care of herself but doesn't know where to start, what do you recommend? And much more!
